Aborted 50 mile solo backpacking trip in Escalante after 3 days

all right Tuesday and I have arrived at trail head taking care of my business ready to go headed out that way beautiful Canyons beautiful looks a little intimidating awesome there's a trail head right there ready to roll trusty pilot okay let's do this just over that I should see Coyote Creek Canyon and Escalante let's see where's the car oh there's the car parking and there we go I think it's still a bit of a scramble let's just see what's over this uh yeah we're so close Yahoo I made it bit a bit of bushwacking I forgot how far that was but I'm here never get tired of this view oh wow so if you look there you can see the arch and that's the Escalante going to wind wind up the Escalante go around the other side of that Arch thing I'll be on the other side of the arch and this is Coyote Creek right there going drop down here down there somewhere there's a crack over here scramble down and go that way and uh yeah this place is beautiful so let's head over to the crack over here and descend all right here's the crack see the crack there let's go down some more this is the crack scramble down this first little crack oh oh whiz what the heck all right that was dramatic overly dramatic okay there's there's a crack it goes down along there and comes out over there and down to that see how we do it so there's the crack right there first one drop down that it's pretty pretty easy the next crack is behind me here you can see my packs already there I've been through it it's just a a little bit too narrow to work that pretty cool kind of like a slot but then as we come through it you see this is the uh that's the end down there I got to figure out how to get down there which the way to get down there is through this next crack here you see the crack there got to go squeeze through that that one's pretty narrow and too narrow for my pack too narrow for my pack so that means I have to drop my pack down here then come down pick it up so let's do that and then easy down the sand dun into this gante that was a bit of a debacle but I'm finally going down the big sandun that's the crack up there and headed down into Coyote Creek and there's Steven's Arch all right we're going up the Escalante here got to get around Steven's Arch on the other side so we're just going in and out of the Escalante been hiking up the Escalante and this is Steven's Canyon here finally it's 4:00 okay broke my first Camp right over there I'm in Stevens Creek now the arch is up there last night I saw the shadow of it on the moon against the canyon wall awesome let's go the heck these are the mugwi steps I thought they were further up so I wasn't looking for them here but I got stuck and all right let's move forward but this is pretty cool man look at look at this layer upon layer this Canyon wall wow it's incredible yeah it's incredible and I get to be in it well let's go yeah this is amazing I know I've been here before but wow with something This Magnificent there is definitely a sense of reverence and privilege to be here and gratitude and there's more I've reached the grot this place is beautiful there more water here than last year all right so I'll get some water and then do the climb through the poison ivy oh boy all right I'm I'm up on the ledge of the canyon it was tricky to get up here and I got to Traverse all that until this Canyon meets up with this so a bit a bit of not easy hiking here all right see where we go it is Thursday morning and I never planned on camping here it is a beautiful place this is the wrong Canyon but it's pretty cool down there yeah I crossed all that mistake so I'm trying to fix my error which means climbing up that and more of that hopefully that's possible and I'll get back on track otherwise my adventure is at end so let's see what today holds for us okay made it out of there now hopefully this is going to lead me where I want to go actually it looks like people have been through here before that's encouraging well nothing has turned out how I planned definitely not that the lightning thunder rain so I'm hold up in this morning slot set up my tent here storm's supposed to last till tomorrow so it looks like it's an abort good morning it's Friday morning this is a trip of compounding errors but this is my campsite here pretty cool getting ready for breakfast this is a little bit of a slide Canyon I guess it's a little bit of a slot let's go explore [Music] it is it interesting to think about what this looks like when water is coming through here cuz that's quite a washway and there's the pour off if I stick around here today I'll probably see it hello interesting I think I could climb up there so my campsite for today good morning I go yes I am racing to escape the storm aborted my mission and now traversing this Canyon ledge it's kind of scary looking at it but it's okay see this is what I'm talking about there's the trail and I thought well it's got to be a higher and I was up there and I saw the trail down here and it's actually safer down here as I can see uh but that does look sketchy all right let's get through this part all right there see what I mean when to say it kind of looks sketchy it does it doesn't feel sketchy though just looks it have to be here to appreciate it but look I'm almost done with that part so let's go race the storm definitely a change of scenery now as I'm bushwhacking inside of Stevens's Canyon so but it is beautiful all right let's move on all right and the bush whacking has finally open the canyon bushwacking Canon still bushwacking left but it's pretty happy news it's the back side of Steven's Arch coming to pretty part of the canyon now here we go all righty I've summited The Grotto which is right down there not going to go there now I need to drop down and kind of work through the poison ivy that's right in there once that's done well kind of easy sailing all right Poison Ivy Land I got to drop down through this stuff now I'm bushwacking through some poison ivy but now I'm I'll poison iy protected as best as I can so here we go there see what I mean I got to go down through that dropping and it's hard not to touch this stuff because it's everywhere hope I don't get it the storm is moving in but all right started to rain a little you can see raining over there oo
