working on a potential new curriculum for the district the district though saying there were just too many items on last night's agenda to get to that particular discussion an update now from the abc5 political team Governor Katie Hobbs responding to an ongoing criminal investigation at the center of it her Administration the Attorney General is looking into a group home for foster children that received increased State funding after donating to hubs' campaign here's the governor's first on camera response to questions on the investigation I have always and will always do what is best for arizonans there an AG investigation I'm not going to comment further except to say that I look forward to the conclusion of the investigation and finding that we acted in the best interest of Arizona that is all I'm going to say about this attorney general Chris May says she is investigating the case but has not said if the governor is a target hobbs' office says she will be cleared of wrongdoing When Death storms hit you do not want to be on the roads it can really get dangerous out there however if you are driving down the interstate you may be warned of load visibility the operation safe roads team following up with adot's detection system that launched about four years ago now so it's along a stretch of the it1 between Eloy and Picacho Peak with 13 visibility corridors alerting drivers of dust and reduced visibility not only will drivers be warned on message boards but speed limits could change too ADOT discussing the detection system on its latest podcast saying the system is working as designed when there is blowing dust in this uh safety Corridor the system automates automatically and reduces the speed limit we've also learned thanks to these detectors in the pavement the drivers do reduce their speed when they see those speed helit signs drop so they are traveling through the safety corridor more safely when dust reduces visibility you can learn all about the monsoon in ways you can protect your home and family in the abc5 monsoon special that's airing Friday night right after the NBA finals continuing our coverage now of our extreme heat as we head into what could be a record setting day ABC 15 staying on top of efforts to help neighborhoods cool off so last night the Phoenix City Council got an update on the shade Phoenix plan it's a story we've been telling you about our week more than 25,000 new trees and 500 new shade structures will be added across the city over the next 5 years on a day like today when it's approaching 110 outside if we're in the shade today that's like being in the sun in April or in May on a day when it's perhaps 90° we can change the experience by orders of months by moving into the shade right now only three areas of Phoenix have more than 15% tree covering that's why Equity is a major goal of this plan we checked the plan does call for more than 50% of these new trees to be added in lowincome neighborhoods abc5 diving deeper into efforts to prevent our Reservoir from running dry SRP releasing more than 35 billion gallons of water down the Salt River following backto back wet Winters however that's now no longer the case the US Army Corps of Engineers approving their proposal to hold water in roselt dam for four months but not everyone sees runoff as a bad thing anytime a rule is changed anytime they operate the dams differently or they store additional water for whatever reason that's that's a lost opportunity for the aquafer D down stream but the approval is only temporary afterwards SRP will go over how the program went and see if it may become [Music] permanent time now for that most accurate forecast some meteorologist Iris Osio excessive heat warnings remain in effect for the valley through tomorrow night those heat alerts also stretch into Southern Arizona now the lower elevations of Yavapai County parts of Mojave County and the lower elevations of the Grand Canyon and spots like paage will be under that heat warning today as temperatures get sizzling and dangerously hot across many spots in Arizona 113 for a high today and Phoenix could tie the record high for today's date set just a couple years ago we're topping 110 in spots like Lake havu 100 104 rather in spots like page 104 also in Globe and Sedona reaches the triple digits to again look for record timeing heat with that high up to 113 degrees in Phoenix tomorrow 11 still under that heat warning but by Thursday evening and Thursday night a very slight chance of a in the valley a
