so how well do you think you know you abandoned and disused tube stations they used to be 19 on the Tube map that are no longer in operation today and we're going to give you an overground tour not underground into some of these old abandoned underground stations starting here a longer now we'll do a complete summary of every abandoned station that we know about at the end for when we say nineteen that's the number that we'll go to in this video that you can also go and see for yourself and we do indeed start in the top right hand corner of the tube map the line between Epping and anger with North Weald station in between closed in September 1994 and the only real way to see it nowadays is to travel on it as part of the Epping to ongo preserved railway they normally run steam trains throughout the year but we went specifically on a weekend that they were running old cheap stock - the best way to see black hole mr. McCartan train and this is North Weald the eponym Dunga railway any runs from Unger doesn't quite go to Epping usually have to get out here but this is the old station house it's beautiful it's preserved and it's lovely and it closed on the 30th of September in 1994 next we headed for the Piccadilly which has got the highest number of abandoned stations on any line six in total we're in the London borough of Islington North one big field street to be precise and there's no tube station called ping field Street but there is if you step back a tube station called York Road here now it's called your way this opened in 1906 on the Piccadilly line in a rather industrious area as it still is now and due to a lack of traffic it closed in 1932 the terracotta red colour is a classic Lesley green design and if you want to know what the station was like just go to Caledonian Road one stop up they're almost identical but here's what you should do go to Caledonian Road and get on a southbound train with your back facing the front of the train and then look out the left hand side window and as you go past the Old York Road there's loads that you can see next stop Green Park take a walk in the southwest direction down Piccadilly and the sixth Road in your right is called down Street where you'll find this abandoned station with the same name that closed in 1932 and today is now news agents which is handy in case you're feeling peckish it's where at Hyde Park Corner to profession you'd be right in technical so that isn't Amanda that isn't this use it's not but it doesn't have a station entrance on the surface it's all in Subway's or does it the old station building wants a pizza restaurant and now the Wellesley Hotel was closed in 1932 when the lists were taken out and escalators were put in rumor had it though is still a secret staircase within the hotel down to the two platforms keep heading down the road past Knightsbridge station and Harrods and eventually get to Brompton Road tube station actually located in cottage place so ads with all the other stations on the Great Northern Piccadilly in Brockton railway it opened in 1906 but right from the start it didn't have that many passengers it soon lost its Sunday service it lost its service completely for a few months during the general strike of 1926 and even when it did reopen it didn't last long and it closed completely in 1928 again it's another stunning Leslie green design station a complete contrast turn next abandoned station head on West down the Piccadilly and go to Austin II to find the former Australian Spring Grove sometimes called Osterley Park and Spring Grove there's some discussion there as to what its original name wants but here you can see on this bridge it's now been turned into a bookshop but there's still plenty of evidence around that you can see of where the former station and of course looking over the footbridge where the platform's still are we'll come back to the Piccadilly line later but now our attention switched to the northern as we come in search of a tube station that was never even opened in the first place so how can it be anything there we found out as we went to look for the mysterious Bull & bush station and welcome to bullet brush station or the old bull and bushes to publish called and this is actually the old station building and the pub has now replaced it I'm kidding this is a tube station that was started but never finished so there isn't an old station building but if they would it would have been on Hampstead way it was going to be called North End but gets its nickname from the local pub but as no street-level station building was ever constructed there's nothing to see up top or is there well there is a note ventilation shaft an access point into the system which you can find here it wasn't until the 1950s that the access from the street was created and the abandoned tube station became the control centre to manage the flood gates installed on the network the surface building has been disguised to look like an electricity substation we went to Euston and on the corner of Drummond Street here is the old surface building for the Charing Cross Huston inhabited railway who closed their surface building in 1914 Houston has been massively redeveloped over the years and contains many secret tunnels and old corridors deep underground which the public no longer get to see a short walk up the road through Camden brought us to our next abandoned station on the Northern Line from the ground probably thinking is that a little tube station no it's not but across the road from the toilet is South Kentish Town tube and the familiar terracotta red yet the familiar Leslie green tiles give away the fact that this was an old tube station south kenta's town it was almost called carful Road Castle Road is their council place the sign still attached to the tube station today and it closed in June 1924 Lots Road power station big power station on the Underground had a failure at the station lost all its power and when it came back up and learn again they just never reopened the station it's a cash converters nowadays but also down the side it's a yoga studio and I'm thinking of taking up yoga just as I can go and have a look around inside and that's the end of part 1 in part 2 more abandoned stations that you can see from the street down in cuttings the view from a train and probably the most famous abandoned of them all
