all right so I'm on here to Thunderhead to 89 today we found this fluffy in the woods which would be a late 60s Ford f-250 the water pumps Nazis and the carburetor isn't seized so it's usually if the carburetors seized then there's a bunch of water inside the engine let's see if a losing gear I think those are gears Luke this truck only had 71 thousand on it that's not we did not have this in the plans for today yes it's got a ground now oh no way it turn over did you see that yeah tell me you got that the more we move back and forth this trying it's gone farther every time oh no way it's free hell yeah so this popped off let's try it again see if we get some more drinks out of it it's been here since 86 or forever so it's not going anywhere no one's messes it too much with people would have stole the tailgate because also people always steal I mean sometime we're gonna have to come back here and redress it if people care if this video gets a thousand likes I will do everything I can to find the owner of this truck and rescue it in this spot to be driven you asked for it we're gonna do it under its own power we're gonna remove this truck from its burial spot today this week some time this thing's been parked for probably off the road 30 years you think oh man it's been here it's it's really sunk into the ground windows been busted out forever it's out here on an abandoned farm so with that being said let's begin do we want to drive out of this spot or do we want to pull it forward to like whoa no we want to drive it out of this tree just pull down old tree yeah Lord carburetor rebuild kit sittin here so probably explains why the carburetor look decent I bet you someone fooled with it before there's the accelerator pump there's a float I'll smash the bit anyway that's that's kind of weird so if I might explain why our carb is so clean in this truck so it slashed a while he was thrown out so that could be seven years old I never know who knows you know like the fella said no one's lived here for you know like 20-some odd years anyway okay let's take our hood off yeah let's get the hood off so it doesn't get bent up for anything and then we'll go yeah it's all good yeah all right so we're digging in here cleaning some stuff out getting ready to work on it I've discovered that there's a date on your oil filter yeah like seven seven ninety one it looks like she's at 65,000 miles so that's probably the mileage yeah well how many miles I have 65 960 it says 71 what are these oil filters get to 5,000 miles yeah and then 65 nine something seven seven 91 so all right so that means this truck has been parked for 26 years so there's our answer that's a long yep I guess the first thing is we want to see if we have sparked pull the plugs out and then pour some tranny fluid down the cylinders because it's out out here and it's pretty damp in this area you know we got mosquitoes it's like it's kind of like being in a bog so you know everything the cylinders kind of rust up because they'll be an intake valve open and whatever so I guess go through pour some ATF down the cylinders turn it over for a while try and you know free things up before we try and fire it I guess we'll do that check for spark and then see if it'll even kick over so anyway all of our battery cables here that ones are you know they were cut and someone took the battery out so we got some new cables but what do you need for to hook on together into the cables probably a battery I need a battery which we we had one charging up and ready for this but we're we live about an hour away and I forgot it I forgot the battery I forgot the booster pack I didn't bring any jumper cables so we're probably gonna have to get pretty creative one crappy Walmart battery so anyway we're getting our plugs out here and they've been in there forever they're pretty darn tight spark plug wires were probably questionable I can't imagine that that even ran back in its day when it was together so who really knows we have no idea the history of this thing whatsoever it's got a little bit of oil on the plug but anyway we're gonna get these all removed stick our funnel down there and pour our ATF in and hopefully hopefully our engines decent we get to fire off improvised jack handle extension since we don't have a pipe and everything was so tight alright little batter now here's the problem child 1 so it's pretty darn tight hey just send it I wonder if I work it back and forth yeah it moves but I don't know if we're just it doesn't feel right you know oh I felt it break for you there or break off old baby come on girl oh we should get new spark plugs no these are fine what could be wrong with these oh that's got the spark plug insert on it it's pretty tight that was probably the exhaust valves this was probably the intake now it looks pretty good actually it's hard to say though so the important part is is we still have our threads we didn't destroy that so pour some oil down it so I'm just pouring about a splash of tranny fluid down the cylinders we'll turn it over and throw this all out but even if we are down a cylinder you know that one on the driver's side was pretty tight if those rings are jacked up you know it's big old EFI engine even with seven cylinders it's got the power to get this thing right out of its grave if it'll run so we'll see so run it's a board the second I laid eyes on her I said she'll run those are an exact measurement asks you how much oil I'm pouring in here no you're pouring none in there so they're an exact measurement asks you how much oil I'm pouring these cylinders not really we're just gonna give it a good splash here you can cover the whole piston yeah it's gonna gonna really throw it around here we get it turning over so all right so we got the battery plug get up there we're checking for life that's life it's doing something dude it'll run the choke street you know like I said with that carb kits sitting over in the woods and how clean the carburetor is which no it doesn't look clean from this view but remember from our original video of just making it crank over but someone's been in there if you look down the barrels of the carb and the venturi they look pretty clean so I think someone tried somewhere along the way to get it running again and it didn't quite work out the way they wanted but hopefully we succeed where they failed or probably end up finding why they stopped yeah I'm sure there's a reason all right yeah let's grab a breaker bar throw it on the crank pulley so we can spin her over by hand a little bit get that oil do the drama cylinders fifteen sixteenths like every other that was ever made which I kind of like oh look at the triple-homicide already which I kind of like over the small-block Chevrolet because you can actually put your socks on it and not all destroy freaking gushed probably good plan to work this around manually seems pretty free though if you like there's any bad spots I'm not feeling anything that has got a lot of drag to it so I'm pretty encouraged so Ron hopefully our valve trans not stuck but again that's all stuff we're gonna figure out here and that weird noise we heard may have been fact to be an open header on one side as well you know that and the clutch is stuck so there's a number of things but the engine seems seems pretty free which is crazy for how long it's at I mean like check check how much of junk is on this thing - look at that so that and hold a mouse poop oh that's been here crazy a long time but that feels free so run as far as yell on the low rotating assembly I think it's good alright moving on our next step is going to be yeah we probably want to see if we can get ignition to the thing we might turn it over but you know without a key we'll have to rig something up for the ignition but we can get ignition to it and at that point we're really close to being able to see if it'll actually run just spray a little carb cleaner down the carburetor it's flammable and kick her over and if she'll if she's gonna light Sheol light all right so now since we don't have a key we're gonna go ahead and just Hotwire our Silla node here and this is just you know goes to show how easy it was to steal this old stuff back in the day you know they don't have any hood locks and steering locks so you could literally if you ran a power wire over to the coil and you had something like this you could start the vehicle and really drive it away without much effort but anyway basically we're just taking the place of the key with this wire we could touch it to hear the battery and our edge will turn over and you definitely don't want to stand there hey at least our starter works so oh yeah alright let's clean some of this off with some brake cleaner move on triple homicide so we've almost immediately snapped on the terminals on the coil when Luke was trying to check it we decided to see if we can salvage one off of this early 50s Dodge pickup yeah we still got enough threads over there so I can just get a interesting thing about this motor this is a 241 Hemi I think we're gonna be successful there it is what we needed alright so what we're doing right now is we're testing out our coil because apparently we don't have another one of those so anyway what I got going on here is I just directly hot-wired the positively the coil to the battery and then we threw an auxilary wire here under the negative side of our coil and we pulled our original coil plug off here which goes the distributor and we put our spark plug on and basically what we're going to do with this wire is when we kind of touch it to a piece of metal we're basically doing what the distributor's doing and interrupting the coil that discharges it sparks of you see here a nice clean piece that we can in the ground too and if you look at the spark plug the spark plug is indeed sparking so at least as far as that goes our coils good so we can hook all that back up the way it's supposed to be and then turn the engine over and see if our points condenser good probably sand those off but there might be potential there so far so good hey are you kind of seeing that there's some gas up around the intake I am yeah there's a lot of it I bet that fuel pumps working and it's sucking all the crappy old varnish gas up into the carburetor so we should probably disconnect the intake lines in the tank kind of strip this back this is like some really old-school style wires the stuff that like interferes with your radio and stuff and we'll wrap it around the spark plug and maybe zip tie it on or some tomfoolery whatever just enough to make it work all right so exhaust manifold was not who took to the pipe I have the flange and there's no bolts broken off in the holes so I started to think dang I wonder if I could find some bolts for that and then I remember the Luke had found these taped up in the interior apparently as bolts are important look they take them up put them on the dash probably needs us to run hey hey well guess what those are for wouldn't you figure they're probably for the exhaust manifold bingo I don't think it was ready to die when it went so give it another chance at life here Oh she'll go these are definitely alright so I'm gonna get that exhaust bolted back up move on from there hey smoke so we turned over our engine with our spark plug here and we weren't getting any spark but we know our coils good so I popped the cap and look closer at the points and condenser here now the sun's come out and we're not all shaded and it actually looks pretty darn melty so it didn't have the right gap but it looks like you know the points were kind of fused together so you know just kind of how we comment it looks like someone might have tried to have started this up before I think they wired the ignition components up here wrong and they're all kind of melted so we got another points in condense and we're gonna put that in and we should be good to go and I expect once we get that in we have spark to our spark plug so we can see if it'll do something anyway we're gonna saw our point gap we have nothing usually you'd use a feeler gauge so what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna bring us up to a high point here on our distributor and we're gonna have to eyeball this because I don't have anything again so we get to our high point here and I'm gonna open this up just a smidgen so it's kind of the same thing we did with our ignition test where you want to just barely interrupt the spark no this isn't perfect it should be good enough for us to run next thing we're gonna do is check for any bad spark plug wires and plug them all in hit it with some carbon cleaner and see if we can make noise now time huh thank you let's do it so we're having a little bit of trouble getting spark through our distributor to our plugs but kind of that test we did with the coil earlier and that's kind of how you could test a coil on a bench but how we have it set up here again just the spark plug hooked into the top of the coil everything else is hooked up normal hit it with some power and we're gettin spark'd now what we're actually using here is a distributor itself to interrupt that that connection and every time that that connections broken we're getting a spark so we know that we got that all as you can see there and again instead of me interrupting it with the wire on a ground it's just doing it right on in here so we know that that's probably good I'm assuming that these old what I think are called actually solid state wires and all that there's something oh you know what this goes to show that we're not all perfect it probably would work oh my god we had the rotor in there huh so we don't make things up you can see right there that we forgot that straight on there there so I bet you have spark now huh I bet snow points condenser the coil works super let's hook that all back up right and try again okay maybe it'll do something maybe won't you want to hold the throttle wide open when it cranks and they're not really sure yeah all right that was a massive firewall I'll do it again yeah give it some motivation something at the right flash point when you turn that accelerator pump is it pumping gas yeah it's like go holy cow yeah it's working excellent yeah we might know if we could drain that old gas out of the bowls and get new gas in it we could just run this thing all right you see how it's kicking over on some cylinders and all others so I think what we could do is foam out a few of these spark plug wires but you know I'd venture to say kind of how that one deteriorate when I pulled it apart I'm thinking that a quite a few of them are probably deteriorate and they're not making a connection you hear it when it kicks over it's only firing on a few cylinders mm-hmm Plus this one's half a zip tie yeah that one's zip tied on so yeah I think we're gonna need some new plug wires since those are completely dry rotted and we might actually do something but it's good enough to run so I betcha we can make it idle no doubt all right new plug wires parts run get some sandwiches charge the cameras put the battery back my truck go talk with a guy that owns this we can buy it from him and move on from there yep yeah he's available today so we can actually transfer the title and we'll be good to go all right let's do it you

That was an awesome watch.

One thing I always wonder about super old vehicles like this is where in the world do you find glass for these? All of it's windows are busted. Are there companies that make new glass panes for old vehicles?
