yo it does believe it or not he was born in the same hospital he was born if i'm not mistaken he was born in saint luke's you know and um i was born in saint louis he lived on 116th street in morningside i was born on 116th from on the side my brother died on 116th from morningside he lived on 182nd and bathgate avenue that's where i moved when i moved to the bronx so after he moved from the bronx after he moved from harlem he moved to the bronx and i believe he went to like baltimore or like dc and that's when he went to school with like jay to pick it and stuff and then you moved to baltimore i didn't get to do that i didn't do that man this ain't coincidence first off we got to say welcome to the neighborhood yeah man i'm happy to be here this is like any hood man brother you know what's crazy when he first stood up this is our first time slapping hands yeah when he first stood up what's the one thing that you thought i was like man dude is taller than what i thought yeah you know what i'm saying everybody thinks i'm short yeah well i am kind of short technically i'm only five eleven i'm five four bro i'm sure [Laughter] [Laughter] and not that it's some some overnight story or success man you really starting to see the so-called fruits of that labor nah i'm just starting to see this yeah you say that yo because you know even before everybody kept saying yo how does it feel how does it feel and i'm just like yo i really don't see a difference and honestly you know when it's happening you you don't really you oblivious right yeah you know what i mean so i would prefer to stay this way because it keeps me kind of humble and grounded you know what i was noticing how i could tell how hard you working and how much is because he didn't know if certain movies were out that's yeah i know man that's whack though no that's good it's good but i wanna watch another man work nah but you know i wanna still be a kid and enjoy being young that's over man yeah [Laughter] take a couple more steps sip sip sip as you should hey man now now the tour is going down you you're about to head out are you heading out with uh with rihanna yeah what's going on with that man do do they call you yeah they called me that's dope now honestly she that was a special request she just wanted me and honey i wanted you to touch her butt again yo um for real though like i'm an international ass slapper now like you know first it was lana now rihanna i don't know what i'm going to do all the honestly yeah you hear ryan who's next madonna are you ready for that stage are you ready for that are you yeah you know uh people don't know my first time ever touring in my life was with drake oh yeah you know i already opened up some stadiums my first time was in front of 15 000. do you prefer large audiences like that or do you prefer something a little more intimate i'm not gonna lie i prefer the larger that's dog i'm saying the large the bigger the better because for me it's like we all over the place like my my shows look like a circus sometimes because there's people jumping around people jumping in the crowds one time i've actually had people like jump out of like off the terrace and onto the stage like i'm talking dangerously and so the name is rock kim yup that is dope as hell man rock him and it's crazy with a name like that man you it's our did it feel like it was destiny already yo honestly man i feel like my parents jinx me i say that all the time in a good way right right you know um the reason why i didn't come out with my original name i just felt like that those shoes were too big to fulfill to even try to attempt to fulfill and i would prefer to just you know make my own legacy and start my own leave my own legacy and you know follow my own destiny make a certain path you know yeah because yeah raquen would be a hard one to that's like honestly like that's like somebody coming in the game and their name is like slick rick or tupac right right yeah yeah don't do that yeah man at least you understood that before i had to sit you down and say hey you know what i mean you know what i mean i was raised by you know i was raised by the og's man like i had older brothers they had a lot of guidance older brothers and stuff you know what i mean i always even my management now those dudes like my uncle and stuff like uncles man like you know i love to to watch you know older cats because you can learn from their mistakes so yeah avoid them that's what i say man let other people pay your tuition into the school of experience man you're gonna crash the car your own you have to it's only right because that's just life yeah but you know try to avoid as much as possible coming up in harlem like i know just from being a tupac head myself he was born there are does that influence you at all what tupac yo it does believe it or not he was born in the same hospital he was born if i'm not mistaken he was born in saint luke's you know and um i was born in st luke's he lived on 116th street in morningside i was born on 116th from mona side my brother died on 116th from morningside he lived on 182nd and bathgate avenue that's where i moved when i moved to the bronx so after he moved from the bronx after he moved from harlem he moved to the bronx and i believe he went to like baltimore or like dc and that's when he went to school with like jay to picket and stuff and then you moved to baltimore man this is [Music] pop yo for real that's why that's what i wear it for man and dre and stuff like death row is dope yo you know i mean i'm a fan like you know and i'm not too cool to say it like i'm still a fan yo like i mean even like you man like even back in the days and stuff that you was doing it's just people the pioneers who've been here before like they don't really get the acknowledgement that they deserve and respect and credit because the young bloods you know sometimes we forget you know so but me man i can't watch my peers because they don't influence me they don't move me no disrespect no disrespect it's the people before me so when i'm looking at bone thugs easy pocketing all these cats from the west coast that's only because you know i got love for the south too i love everybody man i just watched the dudes before me who did it who had their time and had when the music was different and i just appreciate it hey rock is it crazy that people are watching you now though yeah yeah i appreciate that i always wanted them to i always thought they should right [Music] you're smart watch your partner asap man so there was a bottle of homeless homelessness coming up with you yeah talk talk to me about that man cause i think we i think we share a lot of similarities on that yo you know um i i've realized no matter who you are everybody has struggled yeah man it doesn't matter how fortunate you are everybody has struggle because life is struggle you know you got to struggle to survive every day is a struggle um you know my dad he made bad choices he used to you know sell drugs for a living and we had a good life up until he got caught and got incarcerated and you know my mom you know her only option was just homeless shelters because at that point you know you can't imagine being like the the the people in the family that everybody goes to and his financial problems and his trouble and stuff and then you know that empire fallen yeah how long were you guys in in this situation probably about like two years yeah man probably like two years hell yeah same same with us it was a homeless shelters motels sleeping outside i mean it was my mom single parent though yeah seven seven kids so it was like that's why now any blessing that you get you understand that you were fosse when man always different years uh 10 from 10 10 to 12 to 12 years of age yeah and then 11 to 13. yeah yeah man and the same thing with i used to tell them too man like cats would be like oh man we going to stop by y'all we're going to go to your house you can't come home i know i can't have no company and what i would do sometime too asap rock and i would walk the other way home yes and then cut back through the alley and run over to the mission they don't know what it's like when you try and get girls man and you like probably you young as hell and then your friends got jokes for kids are mean yeah man you remember oh man i remember my one boy man he was one of my closest friends if we had to be in the third grade this boy had on some barney drugs remember the barney underwear he had the barney's own in third grade man i'm talking about man he had to fight up until sixth grade because of that man you mean these right here [Laughter] you sleep some girl just peeped it and just put them on blast front of the whole class so i said you know what man you know you can't let people know that you was in that situation back then but you you know that kind of stuff i'm proud of you i'm i'm 100 proud of it also brother and plus it builds who you are it does man you know what i'm saying it definitely builds who you are what you appreciate in a major way yeah i would have never i would have never guessed oh man yeah yeah and anything with life man it was it was just crazy moments you know what i'm saying and the same with your moms and pops it's like you get into this slippery slope and it's like like damn how do you get out of this you know what i'm saying like it takes forever man all i wanted was an address i used to walk by and i'd be like man i wish we lived here i wish we could oh man yeah man and all i wanted was an address i wouldn't be anything man i used to be in manhattan just you know on the buses just looking like yo man i want to live in nisbet watch when i get older i'm gonna live in this bill i'm living this building and now i could live in any one first thing i did homie was when i got put on i was like i bought my mom a house and i was like man nobody would knock on the door and tell you you gotta move again you'll never be evicted again you know what i'm saying rest in peace either and but that's that's what we're here for asap rocky's in the neighborhood big boys i know you wanted to be a model at first how did you switch from going towards the fashion lane towards the hip-hop blade um yeah you know i just wanted to uh just get chicks any way i could say that then just look good doing it say that he's gonna be real with you i mean like for real for real as a younger man that's all that's all you think about at one point in time is just chicks so i'm like you know like you know they do only i like chicks who like fashion i like fly chicks you know we all do you know i mean nobody wants a plain jane like you know so for me longer she got a heartbeat on me [Laughter] yeah take some teeth out we good but they're like you have like these high-end like high-fashion brands that you really go for how was that first buy because i'm sure like you had to like grab your money or had it filled up together something like that not even a lot of you man like i always just used to have like rich girlfriends or something like that or girls who would just buy me stuff anytime i messed up my packs and stuff you know that's good for us we used to try to get it any way we could i mean when you use 12 you used to try to go to the barber shop to sweep up here for something then you know nobody want to take you serious with that so what you try to do you try to go get you a little bit of weed sell some weed and they don't want to buy that from you either because you're so young and it's too skimpy so it's just like you got to figure out how to do it by the time i got of age i was doing a lot of like you know freelancing i try to do gigs and stuff you know a lot of modeling teen vogue and uh and then um after a while you know i always i was rapping first at age eight man and i always had wrappings in in there like it was always it was always a hobby you know and um you know i did a little bit of modeling and i'm just starting to get back into it like if you check out mr porter i mean i'm just killing it yeah man i'm killing it with the modeling right now this is my pim voice you know pimp's gotta let me let me oh my god see you see now young blood like it's like uh you know back in my oh my hey days you know uh i used to tour around the world baby and you know i've seen things like a lot of a lot of discrimination and it was just like you've seen it across the nation you know you know people like jimmy and uh people like uh johnny you know it was it was good because it was purple all in the air yeah that's right talk about this okay is this why women would buy you clothes yeah i just put on that voice so listen baby look you know that new given she over there uh you know my hair know how to talk to your women to get their money though yeah you do yeah cause what i would do man back in the day is i'll be like hey baby rocky in the neighborhood [Music]
