A STRANGER Wolf Sets Her Eyes on Our PUPS?! 🐺 Wolf Quest: Bountiful Wilds • #52

[Music] why hello there all right well this is going to turn out very fortuitous because i think any second now we actually have catalina there she is catalina has arrived and we actually have a mule deer fawn carcass here ready for her to go ahead and be able to get a chance to eat so we're gonna let her try to fill up her stomach is she very hungry she's actually pretty hungry you guys wonderful so we're gonna let her eat she was watching the pups while they slept and thankfully everything is going to be all right there but we have just run across a mother elk which means that somewhere around here is going to be a elk calf that we might be able to go ahead and take down to bring it back to the kids so let's actually search over here first all right nobody here using our new ability to go ahead and scent mark so we can follow our nose all of the different spots that the baby could potentially be in has actually proven to be so useful we managed to find the elk fawn in record time or excuse me the dear fawn in record time because of this last time also there's a whole herd of female elk over here what the heck what are they doing do they have any babies with them oh my gosh actually is this her backup is this like the mama elk is like oh you think you're gonna mess with my baby yeah look at this i've got the whole herd here for backup i don't think so all right well we just spooked the whole herd but i have to say that was really hilarious oh geez i'm in a bush full of extremely loud bees but there we go oh catalina it's not worth it catalina i know that's probably a wounded one but there's an easier meal somewhere around here oh look at the mom is running with them oh cause her baby's right over here oh the elk heard her oh she thought they were here for backup but they actually ended up giving away where the baby was and just like that we have a new meal for the kids okay i shouldn't laugh because it's really sad for the elk mom like literally she was kind of sold out by all of her subs like her sisters and siblings coming through and because they stampeded right across the grass part where the baby was the mother ran over however you know what even though it's really morbid we're gonna go ahead and say that the baby got run over by the stampede and i wonder how often that happens in real life as tragic as it sounds but i wonder how often that does happen in real life because i know sometimes when animals stampede the young get caught up under under the rush in the chaos of everything and i also know that if you have the animals who are hoofed animals sometimes or even just big animals sometimes disaster happens and they do happen to step on young then you know you would hope they wouldn't try to step on on purpose but they're also animals and thus have a wide gradient of behaviors and realization of their behaviors like i know i was watching wild earth one time and they were talking about how one year the sand plover family who lived at one of the ponds lost their baby their their nest all their little babies and their eggs because an elephant who came down to drink at the waterhole actually stepped on the nest like how sad is that but if you're an elephant you're probably not going to notice if you're just minding your own business walking up to the water hole that there was an egg like the nest full of eggs down there and i've also heard when we toured at the san diego safari park that the giraffes there actually enjoy stepping on the eggs of the cranes so they have to pull the eggs that the cranes lay and incubate them and raise them on like behind the scenes because otherwise the giraffes will just go and stomp on the eggs and on the one hand i think that's kind of horrifying but on the other hand i very much doubt the giraffe knows that the egg happens to be like a baby bird that could grow up and also it does sound like you know if you're a big giant giraffe it probably is fun to step on something crunchy so it definitely made me look at giraffes with a whole new sense of respect of the fact that they are indeed wild animals heck all right so that being said i'm gonna pin the blame for this particular elk calf on the whole elk stampede not actually our own behavior we just scavenged this all right yeah we're almost back home we can feed the kids and then pass out because basil's basically sleepwalking at this point all right catalina is keeping a good eye on him man she's been one of the best mates i think we've ever had she truly has just from the get-go she always had his back and there we go [Music] more food for the kids [Music] the family is happy to be back together there's plenty for everybody to go ahead and eat oh look at catalina she already wants to come down and play badger has such a great howl i really think that he is going to grow up to be quite vocal and he just really seems to give it his all at trying to be a good wild wolf i'm so impressed all right and now that we're over here let's go ahead and let basil get some sleep i'm so glad little argon is recovering look at all the babies curl up with him they're not very tired but their stomachs are probably extremely full and then we will continue working on basil's legacy which is going ahead and trying to spend the last arc of our time with him as a generation three air expanding our territory and hunting down any more of the moose calves that we can find because the more moose calves we bring back then or take down honestly then the more points that he can get and the more points that basil can get as rosetta just like digs a hole and splashes him with a ton of dirt then the more we can try to heal his heart and replace all of the fame points that he actually lost when he lost mouse and thus the ability to ever do his life quest keeping all of the pups alive is actually a really difficult life quest when you factor in just everything that can happen to them all right pups you guys good how big is everybody today have you guys been growing yeah yeah oh they're so cute all right 18 pounds for badger and 17 pounds for catalin or excuse me for rosetta and argon i'm not sure how many pounds catalina might be or if she'd appreciate if we inquired but it looks like today we're going to be working mostly on the east territory or actually let's swing up and cover some of the northern territory because that's where a lot of the mothers with their calves tend to go their calves and fawns and it looks like there's a couple weak spots we can actually snag from the crevice lake pack all right everybody good over here pups um no you're not good you're not good all right who wants who yeah no [Music] prospect peak wolves what give you the right to come all the way out here prospect peak wolf and try to attack our puppies holy canoodles very aggressive loud furious bees and also wolves what do you think you're doing like what is this it's not even the alpha of the prospect peak it's one of their they're like children what was she doing i think i think this was actually a a crime of opportunity you might say do not turn around and go back towards our pups are you like do you have a death wish get away from our babies all right we need to come at the angle basil actually learned a lot from his mother parsley on how to actually hunt other wolves as weird as that sounds really coming at a strong angle works best there we go got her got her greater gardener come on catalina good job catalina good job catalina i mean this is another way that we could end up with points too infamy from taking down enemy wolves and also i mean i really think because we don't have a beef with prospect peak anymore this was really mostly just a crime of opportunity or at least an attempt to take out another wolf pack come on catalina come on yeah this was just an attempt to take out this wolf pack oh there's a mother like deer over here who's worried about how things are going to turn out all right we'll get a little bit more energy back catalina is from behind and then once we line it up i missed wow we really have unfortunately learned how to go for the throat when it comes to fighting enemy wolves oh my gosh speaking of going for the throat both parents there i mean if we're able to take her down that is an infamy point it really shows that the world sometimes is so [Music] dangerous and difficult i love her little flop ear though but the world is sometimes so dangerous and difficult that the dark moon pack really earns their name come on okay catalina seems oh nope there she goes catalina is also not going to give this a rest if you're able to escape our territory before we take you down that's one thing but i think basil's actually gotten really good at hunting other wolves and i think he learned from parsley honestly oh man oh man and there we go another infamy point that is not exactly how i wanted our pack to gain their points hunting moose would have been better [Laughter] but catalina's really like proud about that and that wolf was way too close to our territory in all regards wow [Music] [Laughter] there we go okay that actually strengthened our pack in pretty much every way guys and there's also a moose over here as well as a bear that's sitting down and just like licking its paw also does this whoa does this moose have a calf with her she does oh for real we're just gonna go straight from like an infamy point with a a stranger wolf to going ahead and getting a moose calf taken down too what basil i knew you were gonna try to leave a legacy but dang he's really putting us all into this it's also kind of a matter of the luck of the day too okay watch out for the angry mother moose [Music] okay move move move okay we're going to have to be a little more careful i don't want to die by moose just as we managed to go ahead and take out a stranger wolf okay one bite back off wait for just a minute okay now we're definitely we're definitely feeling the bruises catalina move no do not bite that moose danger danger you guys oh catalina she's mad we've got it three moose i think that's the most moose that any of our wolves have ever gotten from these battles i cannot believe how far he's gone holy cow you guys and then there's like a mother deer the this is spring this is spring and early summer just everything is alive with all of the new birth and the babies and then the cycle of life brutally cutting down some of them early on so that we can feed others but basil what like he just went from having taken out a stranger wolf who was going to try to commit basically a crime of opportunity of taking out our pups now catalina you're a bearbette biter i had no idea she'd be so brave but she's just like yeah i'm just gonna go rush that bear so we have three points for moose two infamy points so it's five points that basil has gotten back even though we've permanently lost the ten possible points from fulfilling his lifetime quest and i just mentioned that because normally i keep the points to myself so you guys don't have to worry about the math but i just mentioned that to show how here we are at the very end of his opportunity to explore the world with catalina to give us his story and he is making the most of it and i am so proud of him he's really trying to bring his legacy back to life that's that's really inspiring especially because he was so depressed after he lost little mouse but alright guys thank you so much for joining basil as we continue with his
