A Rip Off? 🤔 Sony WF-1000XM5 vs WF-1000XM4 vs LinkBuds S

I made a very crowded place right now and I'm testing the microphone hobby Sony wf165 okay so pay attention to how about the environment is we are switching to the microphones now in three two one and this is the microphone of the Sony w365 in a product place like this so here we have the Sony WF thousand xm5 and in this video I'm going to compare them to the wf-1000xm4 and the Sony link Birds s but before we get to the tests I want to talk about some new features and improvements the xm5s bring to the table because it seems to be designed to address some of the complaints people had about the xm4 things like the size of the earbuds those are quite big so for people with smaller ears it can be quite tricky to wear but as you can see while it is still not as Tiny as the link bus as it now comes in a much smaller form factor which makes it much more comfortable to wear especially if you have small ears not me because my ears are pretty gigantic some other welcome changes are volume controls on both earbuds by tapping repeatedly when previously volume controls are only restricted to one earbud and it is something that you've got to turn on in these Sony headphones Connect app so pretty great and the option to turn off side tone so that you don't have to hear ambient sounds or your own voice when taking phone calls so if those were your complaints about the xm4 it seems that Sony does listen doesn't it either that or they're stalking me and they're listening to every word I say they're everywhere another small but significant change that you won't hear from other channels is that the foam temps now have a mesh that prevents earwax and other debris you from entering the earbuds nozzles and you need that because when that happens on the xm4 this affects the sound quality and volume and it's very difficult to clean its case is the smallest case ever by Sony but it also has the same battery endurance as the Mach 4S up to eight hours in the buds and 24 hours worth kiss with ANC it also has some other changes again upgraded processor called the integrated processor V2 as well as a new qn2e noise canceling processor it also has spatial audio with head tracking which according to Sony can be activated for content on YouTube and Netflix but only on device devices running Android 13 and newer hit tracking basically gives you a more immersive audio experience by locking the source of your audio in place so that even if you turn your head the audio stays locked to your device's position kind of like Apple's special audio head tracking now head tracking can also be used to answer and reject phone calls I've tried it and it does work pretty seamlessly for phone calls but I wasn't able to get hit tracking to work for special audio somehow even though 360 audio was working there was no hit tracking on YouTube when using my Xperia one mark 5. on my Samsung the Samsung Galaxy s23 Ultra I couldn't get it to work either after going through all the settings so perhaps not now maybe in future we'll see other improvements to its Hardware are a revised microphone layout with six microphones instead of four and a new 8.4 millimeter driver called the dynamic driver X which in theory should sound better compared to the smaller drivers of previous models all of those upgrades for a slightly higher price but is it true thus the xm5 really have improved sound noise canceling and call Quality compared to the older models let's find out we'll be listening to some sound samples so put on your earbuds to hear the difference better there will also be more xm5 xm4 and Link buds s in both quiet and noisy windy conditions using some really loud Cafe style background noise and wind coming from this fan I've navigated a phone call in a quiet place using the Sony wf-1000xm5 I normally get a phone call in a quiet place using the Sony WF Auto xm4 running firmware 2.0.1 I normally get a phone call within a required Place using the Sony gigabytes s all right now beginning noise in place using the Sony wr25 the quick brown box comes over the days ago example in a noisy Place visiting Sony ladybugs s running firmware 3.0.5 well in some ways it is an improvement over the exam form background noise reduction is definitely better than the xm4 it's just as good as the link bus as in fact but it wasn't able to clean up my voice as well as the link bus s which is the same problem that the xm4 had someone an improvement but could be better in my opinion now we're going to test this noise canceling performance using the same Cafe style background noise as before foreign fives do cancel just about as much noise as the xm4 but they are a bit weaker at canceling the lower frequencies and a bit better at canceling the mid-range now one thing I noticed when using the xm5s is that since these are smaller it takes a bit more adjusting to get that same snug seal as the xm4s which does influence the ANC so I can see why some people think that the xm5s cancel noticeably less noise than the xm4 it's really a matter of getting the right fit as opposed to its actual ESC performance either way the Sony ring Buzz ass cancels less noise than either the xm5 or the xm4 by the way guys if you want to compare the xm5s call Quality and noise canceling to other earbuds do become a member for one dollar per month or more this gives you full a member like them click on the link below to find out more in terms of transparency the xm5 sits somewhere in the middle between the xm4 and the Sony linkbuds S they are a bit more transparent than the xm4 but the link button s amplifies the pass-through louder with a bit more hiss thrown it so the xm5s are sitting in a very nice balanced position not too muffled and not too transparent that it sounds a little unnatural in terms of sound quality frequency sweeps show that the xm5's tuning is more similar to the xm4 but for a few key differences it sounds a little thinner in the lower mids and it emphasizes the upper region of the mid-range more so if you compare these HB with the xm4 you'll notice that even the tonal pitch of the vocals is quite different it sounds a bit crisper on the xm5 while on the xm4 the same vocals sound more weighty and breathy in this way the xm5s vocals do sound similar to the linkbuds S but more smooth and less sibilance which I do you prefer the xm5 also has the best spaciousness among these earbuds in part thanks to its higher travel extension now have a listen tell me in the comments which of these earbuds sound the best to you to go on together [Music] oh [Music] foreign but if you want to tweak the xm5 sound more to your liking there is a new way to do it aside from the usual presets and graphic EQ find my equalizer lets you teach the earbuds your preferred EQ simply by playing a song and picking what option sounds better to you then it turns that into a suggested EQ setting which you can then customize further if you need not exactly Auto calibration like here ID because that is more to determine what your hearing limits are rather than figure out your sound preference now by the way guys if you want to compare the sound definitely is it's a much more Complete product performs better in terms of sound and ANC and it also has by the way wireless charging which the link bus s does not have compared to the xm4s in some ways it is in other ways it's not so much an upgrade I mean it's definitely a more refined experience compared to the xm4s having persistent volume controls on both earbuds and letting you turn off side tone it also has better Comfort due to its smaller size all the other features like hit tracking even if I could get it to work are just as of this moment icing on a kick rather than anything game changing also there is something I forgot to mention and this is something that you guys have also fed back to me which is how I came to be aware of such an issue on the previous models the xm4 and the link bus s when I chewed heart on my teeth there is a metallic pinging sound in either one of the earbuds not anymore the xm5 does not have any metallic pinging sounds when I chew hard like this yep so no metallic picking sounds at all great in terms of sound I do prefer its spaciousness compared to the others but I also prefer the xm4s thicker vocals now that's not really a big deal because it is possible to make the xm5s more mid-range heavy in settings and they sound so similar to begin with so that process is not really that difficult in terms of ANC it's not exactly a downgrade but it's a little less powerful than the xm4 in some ways but not by a whole lot it's a microphone pickup is somewhat better at noise gating than the xm4 it is very clean in noisy conditions but I'm wondering why they can't make my voice sound as clean as these Sony link but s which is much cheaper also I'm not a fan of that piano gloss surface it's beautiful kind of reminds me of my old PSP during the Y2K era but I also remember that Aaron in his early 20s had to wipe his PSP quite often because it always get greasy from his skins natural oils not to mention the fingerprints same case here because the same errand also has oily skin right but anyway in my opinion the improvements alone could somewhat justify the price increase if it were just about the features and the Comfort
