incredible discoveries are made almost every day some discoveries are made by the advances of technology and unexplained things popping up from the ground from centuries and millennia of erosion along with this are incredible places that man dares to travel in order to make these discoveries and some things can even be found in your own backyard get ready to go on an adventure as we discover incredible things and travel to incredible places wadi al Katan in one of the driest regions of the world that gets just a few inches of rain a year something very unusual started to emerge from the shifting sands of the Egyptian Sahara Desert it might not seem like the place you would find the fossils of whales but these fossilized remains have been popping up from the sands and you won't believe how old they are this mysterious part of the desert was once the test see some 50 million years ago a place called wadi al heatin or the valley of the whales contains the fossilized bones of an ancestor to modern-day whales the RKO SETI which means ancient whales were found here and are some of the earliest forms of whales to emerge the order cetaceans include whales dolphins and porpoises evolved from land-based creatures that had legs you probably didn't know that and some species of whale and dolphin have a phantom hip bone where their legs once attached to the body the amazing thing was that some of the Archaea SETI skeletons that were found in Wadi el heaton have their legs complete with their toes intact it's a look into the evolutionary past when legs for whales became unnecessary and while they were still adapting to their ocean environment the place is visited by tourists and paleontologists alike since fossils were first discovered in 1902 it must be a very interesting and surreal experience to walk along the desert sands and see the fossils of these creatures while realizing that the whole place was once covered in water millions of years ago while on the moose this is probably one of the most remote places that you'll never find without a good guy it's a mysterious place that is located in Libya deep in the Sahara Desert and almost at its geographic center it is a place called wha unnhhh a moose and is the treacherous and forbidden landscape of an extinct volcano crater from space it looks like a black spot in the middle of nowhere on top of the white desert sands why deposits of black ash stand out starkly but it's not just a volcano crater while on the moose hides three small colored saltwater lakes on the caldera floor next to a four hundred foot high cinder cone which is responsible for the black ash the name wannna moose means oasis of mosquitoes or the creator of mosquitoes and for good reason the lakes are infested with mosquitoes and if you plan on camping here you'd better have an insect net or some heavy-duty propellant the strange but common phenomenon in the Sahara is the occurrence of potable water that is found at the same elevation as Salt Lake's there literally is a freshwater Oasis here right in the middle of the Sahara Desert long ago this place was used by caravans as a fresh supply of water on journeys through the desert it certainly would make an interesting vacation destination just don't forget about the mosquitoes atacama sculpture sometimes something doesn't have to be natural or ancient to get your attention the scorched landscape of atacama it stretches for hundreds of miles on both sides of the pan-american highway and it looks completely undisturbed by humans that is until you get about 47 miles southeast of a town called Antofagasta there sticking up from the ground and breaking all the monotony of the desert is the giant sculpture of a hand that is 36 feet tall sticking out from the sand it is the work of a Chilean sculpture by the name of Mario era has a ball and it was made back in the 1980s it turns out that the motion of hands rising from the ground is an obsession of ear AHA's a ball and he's done several of these still it would be a totally bizarre experience to be driving along the desert and suddenly you see a hand pop of the ground as you drove towards it the Antarctic eruption mystery there is a place located in Antarctica south shetland island group that is called deception island and it was named this by an American sailor named Nathaniel Palmer because of his surprise that his outwardly normal-looking Island was actually a horseshoe shaped ring of rocks surrounding a flooded Bowl but little did anyone know at the time that this island is the remnants of an explosive volcanic eruption that happened three thousand nine hundred eighty years ago give or take a century islands like this are created when enormous volumes of magma rush out of the fiery depths and the rocky roof of the island which is no longer supported by the buoyant magma is ripped to pieces and collapses in on itself forming a cauldron like shape called a caldera volcanologists know that deception Island was once the site of a cataclysmic eruption that left a 4.3 mile wide hole in the middle of the island that would take an enormous amount of energy it is said that it is the largest eruption to take place in Antarctica in the last 12 thousand years the volcano was still active and has modestly erupted around 20 times since the 19th century some scientists warn that just because there has been calm since 1970 doesn't mean that the volcano is extinct the deep Antarctic if you were looking for a place to hide that is a thousand miles away from civilization then Antarctica would be the place you would want to go some Google Maps users first found what looked like small holes in the ice no aliens haven't landed that we know of but actually there is a German summer only Polar Research Station nearly in the middle of the frozen Antarctic called Colin's station that can accommodate here up to 20 people the station opened on January 11 2001 and is located 470 miles from another amazing German Antarctic research station called new Meyer station 3 the station is unique and is built on steel legs that allow it to be jacked up or down depending on the snow levels if you're wondering why anyone would want to be out there it's a logistic base for an ice coring project called época European project for ice chorong in Antarctica lost civilization relic there may be many ancient civilizations out there that have vanished without a trace for unknown reasons sometimes these lost civilizations leave traces of their existence behind that is lost or buried for centuries until erosion brings them to the surface it would seem that one of these ancient relics was found when a huge stone sphere was discovered in Lusaka Valley in Bosnia an archaeologist by the name of semir osmanagich who is also known as the Bosnian Indiana Jones says that the ten-foot wide three metre stone ball was made by an unknown civilization that lived in the area 1,000 years ago it's quite the claim and when looking at the stone it really does look like it could have been man-made photos of it kind of remind us of the death star but the interesting opposite is kind of mind-blowing the very large stone ball is dark red and brown which points to it having a very high iron content this leads experts to believe that this is a naturally occurring spherical rock called a concession that's right the earth makes perfect spherical balls of iron concessions are strange in their own right because they are often formed in bizarre lumpy or spherical shapes and they come in all different sizes they are made when very small mineral particles glued together to form a kind of cement between larger grains of sand or dirt these concerns are often harder than the surrounding rock and over thousands to millions of years they will be the only part of the rock formation that remains unearthing striking patterns and shapes abandoned missile base old abandoned places are kind of creepy no matter where they are of course some sites are creepier than others in Teresa Lewis tonyia is a place that is a relic from the Cold War and an area that has been lost in time this is a nuclear missile hangar built by the USSR and a base where short and medium ranged missiles with nuclear warheads were pointed at Western Europe there isn't much information on this discarded Soviet era missile base but it did house anti-aircraft missiles and had many launch pads all that is left now are empty hangers which were built around the 1960s the entire base has been neglected for over 27 years now and there isn't much to see no magnificent ruins or any romantic war relics aside from the hangers only the deteriorated shacks and sheds remain a sort of no-man's land only the beauty of the wasteland and modern ruins fallout shelter while we're on the topic of the Cold War there are a lot of things that were abandoned as it seemed the threat of nuclear war eased with the collapse of the Soviet Union a man from Tucson Arizona USA named John Sims had written online that he found an old 1960s nuclear fallout shelter in his backyard he got a tip from a previous owner of the home that hidden somewhere in the lawn was a nuclear fallout shelter using a metal detector John went hunting and got a signal from something large he dug down into about a foot or so and hit something solid it was a metal hatch that had been flipped upside down after uncovering the lid it was lifted up to reveal a round narrow staircase that went straight down some of the steps had broken and fallen down inside but climbing down inside John could see that it was a fallout shelter made of concrete which had a domed fiberglass ceiling it seemed a bit creepy and old now that it's been found the new owner plans to return it to its original glory just think what kind of man cave this could turn out to be scientists couldn't believe their eyes when they found the remains of King Richard the third the last King from the House of Plantagenet and also the last English King to perish in battle King Richard the third was slain in the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1483 no one knows where the King was buried and a well-known story says that a mob threw his remains into the river no one had ever found the Kings remains however some researchers had said that the King might be buried in the grave friars area of Leicester and in the spring of 2011 Filipa Langley of the Richard the third Society approached the Leicester City Council at the University of Leicester archeological services to Commission an excavation of the gray friars social services carpark site the search was on for the old Greyfriars Church and the carpark was torn up some thought that the chances of finding the remains of Richard the third would be very slim the amazing thing is not only did archaeologists uncover the old gray friars church but they also found a skeleton with battle wounds and a curved spine the bones were carbon dated and well studied Richard had scoliosis which accounted for the curved spine and there were ten major injuries to the skeleton which accounts for Richard's untimely end we hope you enjoyed this video let us know in the comments which one of these was your favorite and if you liked the video and don't want to get left behind click
