A Look at the Steam Controller on the Steam Deck

hey everyone welcome to the channel I'm starting926. I don't know why you said welcome to the channel but it's the extra Channel how you all doing um and today we're going a bit of a I don't know what kind of style this well the camera to the monitors uh lgr does it you know a lot of other PC people do it I'm just doing it because it's easier just to do it I want to get my catch card out and because I want to show you guys two things at once that's not just the screen so well we got the steam deck here and one thing I did is I did I made a short recently a YouTube short on this channel of course about uh on with this thing this is the valve steam controller and what I did was the Showcase um the Showcase me using it well me just turning it on really and just showing you that it works I want I think I always wanted to do a video on this and I made a short to really really um really want to actually do this um look at this thing this thing's old six years old but not even six but yes so as that video attended so uh let me just get to it so I'm going to go to the quick access menu here and go into um settings don't worry everyone this won't be just a steam deck of only Channel like most well bluetooth's already on that's why I was getting mad every life but yeah as you see Bluetooth is on right here um that slider the on the right means it's on so I'm gonna just turn it on and you see under the steam controller it is set now this is on the Bluetooth as you showed before which if you don't know how to activate Bluetooth on your steam controller you hit you hold what before you the turn on Bluetooth mode you have to keep it off and hold Y and steam button and then it will turn onto Bluetooth mode and it will sync to anything including the steam deck so as you can see as you can see I'm uh controlling it with the steam controller and knowing that if you see on the bottom here um and over here I don't think you can see that but you can see here it's the same colors the same face button colors as the same controller now it's fully green and red I would like to maybe they could have made the buttons black and the uh with the letters uh colored but whatever it's fine as it is anyway so yeah so as you can tell you know um it will work so like let's get like Half-Life 2 here I have no audio on this thing so you're not gonna get any audio um but we got Half-Life 2 here I'm I have my PC on so it's automatically you know giving me the thing over here um so Half-Life 2 works perfect with a controller and the steam deck works great with it and but the steam controller as a guitar they made a new a UI well I think this is more of the console uis from past experiments um but as you can see I'm using the steam control to play it and it would have the con with the controller UI um you can tell that you know it's working really well and you know hey valve support with the system you know the platform has always been good and how they support you know control has been great but the steam control has definitely been great on valve side because it's valves on controller but um you know this thing is long dead and at this point because it there's no more being sold and yeah so the only problem I have I don't know if this is a Bluetooth but shift uh uh sprinting is the right left bumper I don't know why I said almost right the right left bumper so you can see that it it would activate but it's not I'm not sprinting it's just he's just Gordon's escorting normal pace and you know it does work so if I log out of Half-Life 2 and go to something like Elden ring why not because I've been key I'm still playing this game I'm almost done but I played this game on Xbox as I said before I said this before too but I played this game on Xbox and now I've been going through on Steam deck and I'm almost done but uh it's uh I'm making sure I mean I'm making sure I'm getting this game done before like a dragon Nation because I'm playing like a dragon Nation on this deck um this game sometimes goes white screen because you know anti I don't know sometimes it just goes but uh white screen but yeah I'm just hoping so while this loads I hoping Val makes a steam controller too I also hope maybe they make a version that's just a standard controller because you keep seeing the loading thing of a controller and I wonder if that's gonna be like a just a standardized controller that you could use in the dock um and other such like uh projects like the return of steam machines if that's going to be a thing with better the Steam OS how it is now I just threw my control I'm Gonna Keep the I'm Gonna Keep The Resolution because I feel like I'm not gonna really play that long usually I set it the 720p medium resolution good balance there but uh yeah but like if you if I hit the button yeah my guy does his magic so I don't know but yeah but yeah you could yeah it's uh it works on Elven ring um it's not you know not as supportive as Half-Life 2 was but it works great I got it where you know the camera movements have fun are fine as you can see it's good and especially when I'm in like a z like I have lock onto enemies it's good for just clicking and just doing that to lock on other enemies so let me exit out of the game before let me exit out no can I just yeah I can save and return the desktop or Steam OS a steam menu yeah um yeah but it works really good on Steam deck it works as well as you know as your PC would or um I don't like just anything you connect any PC your steam machine that you still have that you don't want to let go and it just connects like normal and of course um any game that you played on your Windows PC um it's a good game that I played on Windows PC I did not play on any like this Luna Sid I don't think I haven't even played this on with a controller oh there's an official control layout okay well that's uh that's a never mind ah ah Halo Master Chief coach I don't know when was the last time I used the control okay uh Alpha Protocol this was something I used on PC it's a custom binding made by someone else communion layouts are still a thing even on with steam deck so if it's great this is a um one made by a friend um not a friend a person a Community member and that was on the Windows PC and now it's on my steam deck so that's great meaning any control layout that you had on your PC using this thing is going to be on the Steep deck because valve is great at syncing stuff together I guess I don't know um but yeah as you can tell so it works if you still have one uh and you want to use it as kind of like a steam deck Pro Controller well it works I need to replace the I need to replace the analog stick rubber because it's coming off after years of so many use this has been my main PC controller for years so so
