A Little Miracle in my Day and our HOMESCHOOL CURRICULUM

i don't know why he said those words it's not like something he he was just he would normally have just come out and said but i told him i so appreciate you telling me that right now hello guys welcome back to our channel i am coming to you from our afternoon as you can probably see behind me we've already had quite the morning oh whenessa sees me or belle she wants out i mean she wants to go out she like just gets excited whenever she sees the two of us she's been out of her play pen all morning getting in lots of trouble package wrapped for your friend looks nice and um she loves belle and i probably because we feed her and take her out a lot we are her source of food she knows it so she gets all excited when we walk in the room i was just putting seth to bed but lately i have been doing more homeschool in the afternoon instead of the morning i love to do it in the morning but the girls and seth have been just a lot i i get distracted so much when i work with my older ones in the morning i have to leave them over and over so i meet with one of my kids every morning but um our reading out loud i'm trying to do more in the afternoon and noelle has also started kindergarten and so i wanted to vlog a little bit today just to show you what we're doing with her i get questions all the time about homeschool curriculum and i am not one to switch around i do the same one and i've made videos about it before but this year i made a change and i'm really excited about it the curriculum we normally use for kindergarten first and second grade i tried it a little kindergarten stuff with noelle i often start my kids at four just slowly with kindergarten and she was not responding to it well at all nothing like my other kids did and i was a little concerned after a while it took me a while to be concerned because some of mine when they're four they just don't pick it up and then all of a sudden it clicks but she wasn't even slightly getting it nothing was sticking and she hated it it was a it's a curriculum that's way more um more like traditional school in fact a lot of private schools use it a private christian schools and it's just a lot of worksheets a lot of busy work which i don't mind for the early grades for a little bit and we try to try to keep it to a minimum but it was not working and so the curriculum i love for third grade all the way through high school judah is finishing it this year graduating with it and i think belle might be too is um sunlight we have used it since judah started third grade fourth grade something like that my aunt had recommended to me she homeschooled all 10 of her kids all the way through and told me that it's the curriculum she's like the best of everything she used so when you know somebody who you admire who says this one's the best that she's ever tried and she had tried a lot you try it and she had given me a grade i loved it fell in love with it and we've used it ever since i use it in my house usually from third grade all the way on like i said in this year we decided to pick up their kindergarten and curriculum as well and try it out it's a new one for them they revamped some of their stuff here and there and they had a new kindergarten curriculum so i picked that up and it just came recently and we've started hurting noel and i not on everything because a few of their books were back ordered it's very popular this year as you can imagine but i thought i'd just give you a sneak peek of what we're doing and show you she is loving it so far she loves it so much more so sunlight is very heavy in books all their science we do their science and their main core it's all books books books books lots of books and science and hands-on activities too and experiments all that kind of stuff in fact my older kids are all dissecting frogs and a couple other things this this year but there are so many books for history and that's how they teach things in fact my older kids i was really worried because i wasn't sure it's hard to grade writing for me i feel like writing is very subjective and i've i struggled to grade it and sometimes my kids would turn in things that were very small like not very significant when they were supposed to be writing big papers and i was very nervous about it judah went to he is going to our community college and he's taking a college composition course and he has gotten 100 on everything his professor said his writing is very good and so i'm learning to trust the process more and kids who read a lot write well and so i may not have had them write a ton but they have read a ton and they love reading anyway we love it and i wanted just to show you a little because i noticed but this is not sponsored at all i bought my own so if you're they come in a quarter i think if you want to buy school work for just a quarter of the year you can which i thought was an excellent option and it's the kind of curriculum where you're not just giving them a bunch of worksheets you're sitting on the couch and you're reading together or they're reading on their own and i just really love it i have a lot of it in this box here this is the box you guys always talk about that i keep on my cupboards that looks like a smiley face i used to have nerf guns in it and i put it to better use but here's the curriculum and i just wanted to show you really quick the other benefit if you've never homeschooled before you might not realize what a benefit this is but if you have you would know um it all is planned out for you so i got the four day curriculum so it just says day one everything the books we should read and what we read in it this is the history part and then this is the language arts they do have worksheets it's just enough to be fun i'll show you that they're in here too they just do like a portion of it a day instead of like six pages front and back it wasn't quite that well it was quite that actually some days yeah and so and then i picked up a handwriting that they they recommended as handwriting without tears never used that one before but i've always heard great things about it so these are some of the worksheets they do and i think hope will come along with us for some of it but we're loving it so much just tons of books this is not even like i said it's not even all the books and it's a lot more than most curriculums do i will tell you that oh and all of these too we're reading them aloud together so it's so fun to sit down with my six-year-old and just her five-year-old she is i guess and just read books together so i wanted to share that with you and then we use so many of their cores for the older ones do you like sunlight mica yeah i really like sunlight yeah everybody looks forward to when they start a new year every year and what books they're gonna read our bookshelves are packed with sunlight books this is all our science i think it's kind of all shoved in there for many grades okay it's not the cleanest shelves but these are all sunlight books that is what we use for third grade fourth grade fifth grade sixth grade seventh grade eighth grade and then if you'll come in here ninth grade tenth grade and we have a lot of books on kindle too 11th grade and 11th grade is where we end in our school this week i saw my doctor because i have been sick forever and he told me i'm probably not getting enough sleep which is probably true so i have been working on that a little bit and i just haven't been going to the gym early i've been doing it from home which is an option for my gym which i'm very thankful for but when i don't do it early in the morning it's hard to get myself going so i'm really trying to get more sleep at night like go to bed earlier anyway my whole schedule's kind of been off and the thing that has been falling behind is me reading to my middle aged kids so today i am behind with eli three chapters and they're long and then i'm fine with micah and tori three chapters each two because i usually read them each a chapter day out of their books that we're reading together so it's friday afternoon and we're gonna try to pound some out do you think we'll get three chapters done nope he does maybe we'll read this weekend that never works either we're just gonna catch up another time another place probably but i'm gonna do my best it's a cold yucky day out so it's a good day to sit on the couch and read out loud and we like our books i wrote something interesting the other day what's that um after september 12th in 2001 the day after 9 11 um a bunch of massages came out from their village to nairobi with 14 cows something to say as a gift that's cool and the diplomats just accepted them and said thank you we'll send them home they said they'll send them home oh that's amazing they gave what they had 14 cows i mean the maasai are wealthy though but they their wealth is in cattle a lot that's pretty awesome how do you know all this random stuff i followed i watched the state department all the time tori wants to be first she likes to draw while i read to her she's using dry erase markers and we are reading the journeyman this is like my fifth time through the book it's a good book do you like it yeah yeah it's a good book i've read it a lot of times so i'm recording it when i read it so i can't record myself reading it because i'm recording it for you guys going to listen to my voice of it when it's returned not really interested in reading it a sixth time but a lot of my kids love audiobooks so we're just making our own audiobooks on some of these that i'm done reading why don't you do this with mike i like audiobooks i know well i am doing it with micah too so you'll get extra audiobooks the nice thing about that is when um there's pictures i tell them go look at the book at this picture and then also if there's subjects i usually talk out with them i talk it out on camera so it's actually way better than an audiobook and then i just edit them and put them on a private youtube page for us they're all private you can't find them because i don't know i don't want to edit them that hard i'm just going to put them up there and it's working out good for us just a little life a little homeschool hack there tori and i just read a chapter for like half an hour it's a good one right we're almost done with the book that's the funnest part it's hard to stop but we're not gonna stop we're just gonna keep reading um i was gonna tell you that while we're taking a little break earlier this year i told you i had some help like a nanny i'd hired a friend a good friend of ours was coming and helping me with the girls in the morning so i could do school in the morning and we haven't really had her since spring i don't think at all and so for like four or five months now seth was growing up a little a little more predictable in his sleep and so i was able to get more done without her help but i was using some of my older kids in the in the interim just a couple hours a week they would take different shifts while playing with the little girls and that was helping me get school done in the morning but um i haven't even been doing that for a while so i'm just trying i wanted to spend more time with the girls that's the one thing i did not like about having help with whether it's my kids or hiring someone else i hired my kids to but hiring someone else or her i felt like i was missing spending time with the little girls so i am now doing that i'm spending time with them but it's almost impossible to get much school done like i said so i'm still trying to figure out how to fit in all my work and all the school in into my weeks i like to do like a block schedule where i know up till nine i get everybody ready i shared my morning routine recently and i like to just kind of follow that routine and get everything ready by nine so then we start the next thing but now i'm trying to figure out what that next thing is yeah i don't quite have it figured out when i do i'll share more routines with you when i get it down better myself but i do like change and we're always changing around here to make it work better when you keep adding kids you got to keep changing keeps you flexible that's a nice picture that's the character that we're reading about janet second chapter done i'm sinking lower into the couch but we're almost done you're doing great tori by the way one more thing about this curriculum you can and most people i think use it with groups of children like combined ages we do that for science but we don't do it for our main history course it's just not my thing i like to do it each with each student separately i'm weird like that but you can't you don't have to spend each time individually like this like i do i just like to make it hard for myself no i'm just kidding we're about to finish this book though in the last chapter is the best chapter always finally finished that was a good book um and noel and i have done some school now she's still loving it i think doing school with my kids in the afternoon is gonna be the key for me especially since we're not swimming in the pool all the time now it's getting colder here so in the mornings when i'm with the little ones i can try to get some of my computer work done some of my editing done and what else do i do and meet with my kids because it's not like reading aloud where it needs to be more undistracted uninterrupted so we're gonna try that for a while it's good to keep trying new things luke are you almost done with your work no how come you have so much oh you were sick a little this week weren't you yeah yeah hey guys it's the next day so i had some good plans for yesterday and i did all that reading with tori and tyler and you know i was hoping to read to some boys that didn't happen i was hoping to go we solo and i were going to go out tonight that didn't happen he's had so much work lately and yeah it's actually been like that for a while seth are you feeding nessa the last couple weeks have just been a lot of working and uh so today and he had to work this morning a lot it's saturday um he's actually worked most of the day it's afternoon already and there's sad yeah i was just kind of feeling bad for myself because i'm behind on my own stuff you know when you're sick it's and then you get better it's sort of like when you went on vacation like there are less that's probably why he's been so busy too because he had to help me some when i was sick and he wasn't feeling good for a few days and so we're just trying to catch up lots of ketchup i was just feeling overwhelmed so i worked on my laundry because it was way behind and cleaned up my bedroom there's still a lot of areas in my house that are not in good working order but i sorted out my little girls winter clothes that got cold here this last week and we were struggling to find what they need to wear just got a few things done that made me feel a little better then i sat down and looked at a few comments and read a couple very critical ones about how much i've changed and then that was that i was discouraged again i was like why did i go read those right now i didn't need that uh they were com they were telling me how much i've changed and i won't even give you all the details and it was like one of those stay blessed like one of those holy rebukes which is extra annoying and she was comparing me to the old me and it was a video like just a few months ago so apparently i've changed a lot in the last few months um after that i got on a phone call with some friends that are they're actually youtubers and um we're doing an interview with them soon and we were just having a little chat quick before we do this online interview i'll tell you more about it later but he just started going off on how we had had a lot of success with our channel and how we haven't changed at all and how we're still authentic and i thought it was so funny that he used those exact words of what had just discouraged me it was like thank you jesus it's just like what i needed to hear it's amazing sometimes how the lord can meet you right exactly where you are and be like just blow you away again so i i don't know why he said those words it's not like something he he was just he would normally have just come out and said but i told him i so appreciate you telling me that right now because i just read something that said the opposite and was so discouraging and so it just reminded me like that wasn't truth those words i had read were not truth and yeah i love that that happened thank you lord anyway i just i don't know why i'm sharing that with you but sometimes you need to have a truth speaker speaking in your life when you um you have loud voices that are speaking not the truth even though even though they may wrap it in holy words it doesn't mean it's truth so uh yeah now i'm trying my list is not any smaller than it used to be these two are too cute though it's so fun watching them play together seth are you going to be afraid of puppies see no way i have a nessa in my life can you give me your clothes face smile that close mouth smile there it is there it is i love oh there's the teeth too they're cute what do you have oh you have peanut butter and jelly in here ready to tackle the things now you can do it little by little doesn't all have to be done today that's the way to think of it we'll talk to you later guys this is only from one plant of the kales i love it and i have five plants and i have 16 plants of uh it's like five times the size of your head that's just from one of the five oh wow on the colored greens i have 16 plants oh my word and so and i'm wiki i've been missing having it like prepared in the fridge for morning so yeah so i need to get it to clean it up and cut it i could do more that's what you had
