A Giant Hand-Held PS2...Kind Of, AetherSX2 On The Samsung Galaxy S7+ Is Awesome

hey what's going on everybody it's eta prime back here again today we're going to be taking a look at some ps2 emulation on the galaxy tab s7 plus this just happens to be my favorite tablet i've been using it since it was released i've made a few videos on it and when it comes to media consumption emulation and even native android gaming this has been my go-to android tablet now it's not the most powerful tablet on the market anymore because we do have some other tablets that have the snapdragon 870 which does outperform the snapdragon 865 plus in here but i personally love the features that samsung has added like hdmi over usb type c and we also have access to samsung dex not to mention i'm a big fan of the super amoled displays and this thing looks absolutely beautiful so in this video we're going to be using ether sx2 and as you can see i do have a controller attached this is the ipega 9083 it's a bluetooth controller it's not that bad but it's not a top of the line controller but the reason i use it is because it's the only controller that will fit this 12.4 inch screen tablet so when it comes to the specs for the cpu we have the snapdragon 865 plus and 8 gigabytes of ram because this is the 256 gigabyte model if you opt for the 128 you'll get six gigs of ram but let's go ahead and jump right into it first up we have gran turismo 4. this is set at 3x resolution i'm using the vulcan back in and in a second when we test some more games i'm going to plug this into hdmi that way we can get a better look at the screen but i wanted to show you this in action i mean we're getting really great performance here and with the vulcan back in and 3x resolution i do experience some dips with gran turismo 4 but another thing you got to keep in mind is it's really early for this emulator the new ether sx2 ps2 emulator for android has turned out to be absolutely amazing we're still in the beta phase so you know performance will increase down the road but i wouldn't expect to be able to run these games at 4k on hardware like this but you know 2x and 3x is totally possible on the 865 plus next up we have kingdom hearts 2 still at 3x resolution with that vulcan back in and in the other games you'll see me test i do switch between vulcan and opengl it really depends on the game some games do perform better with vulcan some perform better with opengl and that's going to be you know a chip by chip basis and a game by game basis but so far i'm really impressed with the emulator performance on this tablet here we have god of war ii vulcan back in 2x resolution and you might notice that it's only running at 50 fps and that's because i made a mistake and transferred over the european version but as you can see it's still really playable at 50 fps and only every once in a while i've seen it dip down to around 47 so i think we're good to go with this one it's kind of impressive to see this game running so well [Music] okay so what i'm doing here is using a usb type-c to hdmi adapter because we can get video out of this tablet and then that's plugged into my game capture card that way we can take a better look at the screen here we're not using a built-in screen recorder on the tablet so we're not taking a hit on the cpu or the gpu this way so this is bloody roar4 we're at 3x resolution opengl back in and performance is outstanding crash wrath of cortex 3x opengl this is an easier game to run and even on some lower end devices this does run pretty well i recently tested a 99 android phone and this was one of those games that just worked really good on that device so going into this one i expected the 865 plus to handle it just fine devil may cry 3 opengl 2x resolution and even on my snapdragon 888 devices i can really only go up to 3x before we start seeing some dips and on this tablet you will see it drop down every once in a while but i'd say it's really playable if that frame counter wasn't on screen i'd never even notice it huh next up we have need for speed underground one of my favorite racing games still to this day i personally really love this game unfortunately i just can't get this to run at a stable frame rate no matter what i do opengl vulcan i'm at 1x resolution i've tried a bunch of hacks it just won't do it we always get some dips with this chip and to tell you the truth i haven't tested this on a higher end chip one of my favorite features of these galaxy tabs is samsung dex obviously we do have video over usb type c be it hdmi you will need an adapter and as soon as i plug this into my bigger screen it will give me a mirrored image of the tablet so i could play it just like this if i want to or i could go into samsung dex and basically this opens up kind of a desktop operating system and this way it goes full screen we can still use our controllers and play our favorite games and emulators over here personally i like plugging in a mouse and keyboard but we do have a built-in touchpad on the tablet side of things so we can actually use the android tablet like an android tablet and while it's plugged in we can also use decks at the same time but i wanted to show you at least one game running here in decks and that's going to be tekken 5 so let's go ahead and jump right into it and by the way you can connect multiple controllers to the tablet over bluetooth or if you want to use a wired connection that's totally possible also that way you can have two players on a big screen using ethers x2 [Music] yeah when it comes to the tab s7 or the s7 plus which i showed you in this video we can definitely get some ps2 emulation out of the way like i mentioned it's not the most powerful tablet on the market and i'm sure the tab s8 is coming out soon so we'll get an even better tablet then but i do see these go on sale all the time for a pretty good deal on amazon and best buy and you can actually pick them up refurbished for pretty cheap on ebay and as you saw in this video yes the tab s7 and the s7 plus with that snapdragon 865 plus can emulate ps2 games pretty well using aether sx 2. but that's going to wrap it up for this video i really appreciate you watching i had a couple people asking me about a good tablet for ps2 emulation and i would suggest the s7 or the xiaomi pad pro 5 which actually has the snapdragon 870 it will give you a little better performance but we don't have hdmi out and that's one of the big reasons i love these galaxy tabs or you could always wait for the s8 but that's it for this one if you have any
