A Gameboy is All You Need

a game boy is all you need food nope agua nada just a game boy okay what do i mean obviously you need food and water to survive but when it comes to gaming on the go i believe you need only one portable gaming device that being a game boy yup i'm serious while we've come a long way in gaming especially in portable systems i miss the days of simplicity while it's nice that i can now play skyrim on the go and pretend i'm dovikin on the bus i often find trying to play the switch on trips overwhelming like for lengthy games with various cutscenes it can be hard to focus at times when you got the world falling apart around you not saying it's bad though i love the switch but sometimes i miss the simplicity following the game and watch the game boy was nintendo's second handheld gaming device it was released in 1989 and was basically like a portable nes gone were the days of switching back and forth between stack images we were now able to freely control 8-bit sprites with a layout of buttons similar to a nintendo home console mario on the go count me in the original game boy didn't have a backlight so playing games in the dark was a challenge but if the sun was out the game was on the device was impressive for the time and it sold well we eventually moved on to other versions those being the game boy color game boy advance and the one i grew up with the advance sp this was my introduction to gaming instead of being built like a portable nes it felt more like an snes the graphics were 32 bit and unlike previous game boy miles this one had backlight so i was able to spend many nights on this thing i have very fond memories i remember always staying up late to jot down passwords for levels and being hooked on super mario bros 3 and nicktoons photo frenzy it was no wonder though that i was hooked i had a large selection of games that i could carry around in my special cartridge holder the design of the game boy advance sp is also perfect there's nothing awkward about it it has this satisfying clamshell design that gives it a cool appearance and makes it easy to conceal while the game boy advance sp specifically has a special place in my heart nintendo's game boy overall is the perfect balance of simplicity and enjoyment on the go the games back then technically weren't as impressive but for sure they were less demanding of your time when i'm out and about i can't lend all my focus to crafting the perfect village but a few races in mario kart super circuit why not look i know you can play many simple games on the switch and even some of the same that you could play on game boy but it's just the idea that back then we had to accept what could be technically translated onto a portable gaming device gaming ports were way different back then the sims 2 on game boy plays vastly different than it does on pc today the game that you play on pc is the same game that you play on the go if you exclude glitches it's so nice that we have what we have today in the field of portable gaming but sometimes it's special to strip the luxury away and remember the times of cartridges passwords and ugly ass screen graphics
