A Fixer Upper?

several of you have asked about that old house so that's exciting go to the pond with a cake or soap because it floats all right y'all this is it well laura's laura's here we're entering the not very happy stage you're so smart i ain't spot i just read the book we had some some issues yesterday two boats on each side go up through here and hold this piece right here to hold the drawbar but it's two blocks right there that the boats go up through so when you tighten it up you don't squeeze this together but it lost them two blocks and the whole drawbar was swinging on nothing but the pin oh wow i missed all that this was with the bush hog okay i was having some trouble understanding what he was talking about but now that i've seen it i'm pretty sure i do so there's two blocks that go and the same with the drawbar anyway they're missing and he was saying that inevitably whatever tractor uses that bush hog the most this always happens it always breaks doesn't matter what tractor it is so anyway he's going to the john deere place to see if he can find those blocks if they have them and then he's going to borrow a very large magnet from a friend to see if we can find the blocks that we lost where he was bush hogging we are prepping for the movable moval that's that word removal and re building structuring words aren't coming to me it's too early of the green bins the grain bins are coming very shortly uh we are we are hiring a friend to do that as well because it just is the smart thing for us to do because our friend has done it many times and it will be worth the money to pay someone to do this sometimes it just is so anyway it's gonna be happening soon and he's been he's been working hard over there clearing out i will show you that in a little bit oh good try well y'all it's it's many hours later lawrence is still trying to figure out how to hook up that magnet to the back of the i don't keep wanting to say gator the mule and um he still hasn't gotten it we've been doing school all day we've been struggling a little bit with seventh grade math it's been a long time since i was in seventh grade and there are things that i do not remember doing in seventh grade anyway so that's where we're at we're gonna get this magnet thing figured out eventually my goodness it is hot out here it is very sticky okay how many times have i complained about that this summer a bunch oh i know what i want to tell you window decals are now in the store yeah so go check that out we've got that one and that one and that one yeah alrighty i know some of y'all went looking for them when i showed them the first time and they weren't they weren't loaded but they are as of right now okay a little warm in it babe a little bit he got it he got it rigged up hooked up fixed up all right it's backwards yeah it's upside down oh i see i see what you're saying it's it's upside down until he gets over there and he'll flip it over that that's a pretty strong magnet evidently that's pretty cool all right see how that works he was you weren't able to find get ordered two blocks is that the right word block spacer okay but he's gonna still see if he can find the ones he lost because the ones that were ordered are day or two out right oh i know the feeling trying to multitask and when you multitask you can't get anything you can't do one thing that's right there's no such thing as multitasking well i don't know i know you cannot do two things at a time okay without you bubble gum and walk and that's about you that's about the extent of multitasking you can try to do a lot of things like king whales and turn wrenches at the same time you can't drive a car and read a book at the same time though it's going to be a bad day for somebody yeah that's true that's good advice pro tip don't read a book and drive at the same time listen to lawrence he's really not in the mood to be videoed but he is thirsty this would be two and a half that's what he wants another half two and a half now it's thirsty any bonnie it's hot out there she said i'm not too mom well y'all lucky there he's rolling he's rolling do y'all see do you notice do you even know know what this is because it was full of so many weeds he bush hogged it all and that pad right there is going to house the green bin so that's exciting and it appears he is heading home so maybe he found the little blocks i don't know he just left i was late getting over here because i've been on a call for the last hour so anyway it looks good though ready to get that bin here yeah buddy uh several of you have asked about that old house i'll take you back in that house soon i'm pretty sure i've been in there before with y'all but anywho uh that's where lawrence was raised until his ninth birthday when they moved into that house yeah that that house is like one two three or four rooms uh they had an outhouse i'll let him tell that i'll let him tell that story i'll let him do that when i can get him to hey pretty girl number five is a pretty girl come on [Applause] hey pretty girl me are you trying to video and feed not gonna happen here come the misfits actually so that number seven there i think number seven is super cute he's just very small he was born very late [Music] another one's just not very cute but anyway go get your breakfast panda well it looks like um it looks like we're not gonna see a whole lot of rain i don't think from laura but man oh man i've been watching the news this morning and it's just devastating what happened to lake charles and the surrounding area in louisiana our hearts go out to those folks so sad so so sad and the loss of life um it's devastating natural disasters can be so devastating and hard to see and hard to deal with and recover from but prayers for all those prayers for you if you have been in the past i sure hope nobody watching has been affected greatly but if you have you're being thought about and prayed for and uh yeah sad stuff sad stuff another warm one here today he's gotta do some fixing i didn't hit my head today it's pretty amazing isn't it [Music] [Music] [Music] gate molson like a boss those calves eat so fast i mean there's 35 of them in here they've already eaten we just put it out like less than 15 minutes ago i just got instructions to stay put he's bringing another trough over here which makes sense because there's so many of them and there's only two cabs in this lot so he's gonna bring one of those troughs over here and uh this is the group this is the group that uh we need a creek feeder for we're working on it that'll work so some we were just talking about that old house that i showed in the video and i was going to get him to tell you a little more about it while i got him sitting still and the lights good all right the old house you grew up in yeah the old house i grew up in the fella built it it was built cheap it's just two before stud walls with german siding on the outside and sheetrock on the inside no insulation the sheetrock won't even point it up and the man said when he was building the house he was building tobacco barn at the same time and they ordered the rafters for the house and from gulf lumber company and he said they brought the rafters for the debacle bond and he told them he couldn't afford the raft for tobacco bond had to send them back but the house is built right down on the ground it was just much good when it was built much less now but we lived in it for seven years eight years yeah eight years and then mom and dad built a new house you didn't have a bathroom that's when you had an outhouse right when we first moved well the porch was built from the house onto the well and you had to draw the water out of the way and then put in the pump and had cold water in the house but never did have hot water and so we'd have to heat the water up on the stove and take a bath and a galvanized tub and that's a funny story because you were the largest always since he was the youngest he was always the last one to take a bath in the same water everybody else done took a bath for three more so much needed me taking a bath sometime i've been about to off just wash off in the creek or something i thought you said you did that in the summer yeah a whole lot of times in the summer i'd go to the pond with a cake or soap because it floats and take me a bath i felt clean and i did take the bath in the galvanized too so when was a house built you reckon it was built in the i think it's built in the 40 early 40s 40s okay all right well that's interesting i might give them a real quick walk through just so they see a better idea of how rundown it actually is it's just not a candidate for fixing up oh there's one you'd have to tear it down and push down and start over again a whole lot cheaper and your daddy used it as a shop the back of it didn't he or yeah well i was growing up we cut a hole in the back of it and used one bedroom took the floor out and poured semen in there for a shot i built trailers and overhauled engines and done a whole lot of trucking his daddy was a major was a master mechanic that would be the right word right yeah he was all right thank you that's good all right y'all this is it i'll give you a real quick it's a real quick tour i can actually just stand in one spot and turn around i mean when i say it's run down it's run down obviously it's it is what it is i do like the old refrigerator and i really like the color of this door and these these walls and thought about i actually do have one door that was taken down from another house on the farm i haven't propped up next to our house because i love the color so yeah see see what i'm saying this is what we got this is just it just is what it is it's how it was how it was done and uh this is the room he's talking about that was turned into a shop his daddy took the wall off and kind of made it a shop so yeah that's what we got the kids do enjoy coming over here and snooping around we found some things some treasures there's a wasp i don't want to i don't want to meet him anyway feathers you have feathers so there you go that's the house oldie goldie this is a good galvanized bucket um yeah lots of tool lots of old stuff all right he's left me man this looks so much better where he's bush hogged and sprayed and getting ready and we spraying some more spraying more weeds this is it from the outside i um i do enjoy have in the past when i was doing more photography using the side of it for photos and back behind there i really like using that spot when the light's right it's good y'all so it still gets some use oh y'all we just had a big haul from the post office didn't we bonnie big mail day big mail day in the form of a really big awesome amazing tarp to hopefully keep lawrence shaded and i gotta figure out i'm gonna that's his baby got the straps and everything all the goods to make biscuits i've never even heard of this but i'm super excited to try it evidently if i follow these directions it's going to make the best biscuits ever pure maple syrup like a quart or a half a gallon no it's a lot that's awesome and some delicious hum like uh butter from minna soda hope minnesota um it smells so good i can't wait to use that and a fault finder which we have lots of faults in our fence so thank y'all you're amazing yet again they came through didn't they bonnie yep we say thank you well laura's laura's here gets starting to get a little rain oh in a wet seat we're not supposed to get a whole lot but you know you never know sure would be nice if we had a windshield or sides yeah an air conditioner i guess we could if we if we drove susie [Music] uh we love town without rain jackets it's too hot to wear a rain jacket and we're not gonna melt so there's that yeah i don't think it's gonna do a whole lot but we'll see we've got so much hay that needs to come down and they're calling for rain several days next week so we just don't we don't know what to do we don't know what to do the forecast seems to change every six hours you know so oh we'll see okay so today is replacing the compressor air conditioning compressor for the 4440 the same one that he fixed the other day not the compressor you fixed the air condition anyway then this went out and he had to this friend he had already ordered one just to have on hand in case he needed it and lo and behold he needed it but he said it's totally the new one is different than the old one he's having to change things up of course what are you doing clara i'll get my brother that's what i'm gonna do the dog who hates taking a bath but loves loves to dip her head in the bucket all right put that in putting on a washer it's hard to it's hard to work where you can hardly get your hands i know one thing that sun is bright and hot evidently we're just not getting anything from laura no we don't need anything from her but i thought it was gonna rain and be stormy today and now the sun's shining and it's hot i mean it was hot without the sun now it's just hot it was humid now it's just hot and humid oh well yeah uh that's good we didn't need it and we don't need any this week because we need to cut hay but it looks like there's a front coming so we'll see let me see right now you guys know yeah so this is the air conditioned compressor it's a belt which turns the motor inside the compressor okay okay it turns the pump inside of this housing which pumps the freon to make the air condition work right okay this is what i'm learning today okay but as an usual fashion everything is just hard to get to it's hard to tighten this big radiator hose is in the way we're entering the not very happy stage um the compressor came with the wrong size bolts took the lines up so he is volt hunting isn't too big it's not i'm just here for moral support right now i said i'm just here for moral support right now holding up the tractor tire holding the tractor down pups are being very good what did that all right mean you got it though the compressor online [Music] speaking of the old house he found this in there the other day is it for putting on a soul [Music] old man mckinney is that what you said that's interesting it could be a conversation piece maybe i should put it on the porch could like do this somehow steal it i don't think anybody's going to steal it babe do you think it's worth something 15 20 yeah okay any takers this is the dryer okay the o-ring fell out and evidently it's very important yeah seal being sealed one little thing got it gosh i can't see anything to get in there and do anything okay compressor check dryer check what's next pull a vacuum all right i'm interested to see what that is hmm that looks like a fancy contraption it's just cages he said they're mighty colorful they read pressure okay it was working fine this is what this is what happened to the old compressor you see where the metal on the clutch here broke right there broke several places around the brook right there you got to engage most of the time but then when it broke you have to touch it then i got noticed you're wobbling it'd be a bad day when that thing come off the busted radiator with the compressor still working fine mushy she's about four years old reflected i said it's about four years old and he expects that's the life there's no clutch on that they clutch off one of them okay so this is a vacuum that's all i know it's different than the vacuums that i know about what is its purpose i i'm i know what a vacuum does but i don't i don't know how it the purpose is to vacuum all air and moisture out of this system these lines grow up to come by they got a condenser in the front okay prions got to pass through that and go through these lines yep through the drive through expansion valve to the evaporator when it gets to the evaporator and puts a liquid into a gas that's how you get cool huh well okay any number lines and two coils and you got to pull all the air and moisturize it because more refrigerant don't like moisture you're so smart i ain't smart i just read the book well you're smart okay god with both gauges open then we gotta open the valve down here take this no when i start you're going to see monster coming out right there the human collected a whole lot while we had the lines loose right here and then put the lines loose back up just pull it back between 28 29 [Music] and pulled it all the way through yeah you're trying to suck something out of something that ain't harder than you see still muscles coming out here um i didn't get all that but he was saying earlier because it was so humid today while we were working on it it probably collected a lot of moisture so anyway it's getting there though this is new to me i've never watched this before [Music] i don't see any moisture well a little bit a little bit [Music] i can't see it sounds like popcorn he just said in six minutes it should pull the 28 and a half minutes and if it doesn't then there's a leak somewhere so let's have them kind of wait it's mighty mighty close it's it's about but once this pressure line when you putting it in and when it gets pretty close to right you'll see this pressure line right here frost up right quick you'll start seeing it sweat and then all of a sudden it'll frost up well i don't care what the gauges say once it does that you're pretty close to being right if you put too much refrigerant in it won't cool you can overcharge it that's a lot of information i feel like we just went to shop class next we need to get the shop students to clean shop class beautiful morning actually feels a thousand percent better today it's supposed to be really hot but the humidity is lower for 24 hours they say so we'll take it supposed to rain tomorrow and then it's supposed to be dry so i think it's probably gonna lay some hay down and then we'll be in hay at the end of the week here's hoping anyway i forgot to come back and report but the air condition and the tractor did get fixed it's working just in time for hay again which is great and also just remembered when i saw the belts that were repaired we still have to get those put on that baler so we need to get that done yeah plenty to do and this grass needs to be made again hopefully today before it rains hello everybody got my little horns coming in i'm still a cutie though i'm eating my feed good and getting big right jingo that's what i'm thinking you cut this and you know some more than you can get up in one day two days at least it'll be on the ground because your weight stairs and then you're pushing it another chance of rain to come in about sad to sunday yeah trying to figure out what to do with hay is uh anyone's guess okay so the weather has changed yet again within like the last six hours they're calling for maybe two inches of rain tomorrow so he's decided to go cut hay he said it will dry faster if it's in a row and then he can shake it out after it rains than if he had it down and it was already tetted so anyway he's going to lay down a whole lot of pay a whole lot and uh we'll just hope that it doesn't rain any more than tomorrow and we can get it we can get it tedded and dry by the end of the week and i'll be back in the tractor dragging my rake around which is not a bad thing y'all it's not a bad [Music] thing you
