[Music] ladies gentlemen and monsters of all ages if you're watching this it means you are a part of the monster hunter community no matter how deep into it you are you are a part of it and this community has rapidly grown over the course of the past six years especially in a way that has sort of splintered us a bit coinciding a bit with the release of some major departure Monster Hunter titles that in itself created a bit more of a Divide from their own making it's become much more of a Hot Topic recently due to the announcement of Monster Hunter wild and how the hunter seems to have a Slinger and a scoutfly cage meaning that the new generation the sixth generation will likely be a return to more of a monster hunter World style of game and there's four crowds to this really and let's be realistic about the size of them here the largest crowd without a doubt the absolute majority is people that are just happy were going to have a new monster hunter game and are very hyped to check it out but then we have three pretty vocal other groups as well the old school game preferring Hunters who want the game to Hold Your Hand less be far more challenging and take genuine time and preparation into your hunting almost more like a hunting simulator than a straightup action game then we have the world gang these are usually Hunters who either started with monster hunter world or otherwise just those who prefer world to all of their monster hunter games this group is of course ecstatic at a seeming return to their favored style but expanded upon but there are and have been people who are a bit too gung-ho about the whole world as best thing attacking people who miss the old games for not adapting to the new attacking rise for being PS2 graphics and all those classic phrases and then there are of course the rise and sunbreak preferring crowd who just love the fast-paced almost arcade likee reimagining of Monster Hunter that it contains quick hunts no searching for the monsters low time between the quests just go go go and they are of course a bit sad that Wilds likely won't be taken much out of rise and sunbreak from what we saw in the trailer at least and the thing is none of these parties are inherently wrong for their feelings or opinions in any ways it's just the way that they choose to express them sometimes is definitely a bit of an issue and I have countless videos where I talk about that quite loudly and maybe a bit irritated with classical music in the background but as I always said in those a lot of the times the opinions these people have are not the issue by any means means they are totally fair to have these opinions it is just the way that they choose to express them so let's have a calm measured look at each side of this and how it has developed over the last few years of growth for the Monster Hunter community and why it has gone this way let's start first with the old style Community there are of course for the divides within this people who missed just how slow hunts really used to be in the first couple of games how simple but precise you had to be way back in the old days people who loved underwater combat in third generation people who hated underwater combat but the biggest departure from the past the series has never truly taken is the jump from the fourth generation to the fifth generation of the series the introduction of Monster Hunter World especially as the last numbered title before this was for you which people generally considered to be the best that monster hunter had ever been and some still say is the best it ever has been even up to now so it was quite an ambitious choice for them to go from there to make the leap that they did to this new style before this each map was segmented into separated zones monsters moved less fluidly than today but a result of that was much more recognizable movement patterns which meant players who spent a lot of time learning these could exploit them in ways that really rewarded experience and it was really satisfying as a result the Gathering was more timec consuming but that resulted in it feeling better and more rewarding more earned to actually have good gear good weapons good armor and consumables it took time it took effort and some people really loved that about it as I said before the games up until the end of the fourth generation were almost like a hunting simulator compared to the fifth gen it still had all the same bones of Monster Hunter the same basic combat philosophies same monster designs the same World building and ecology at least at its core but everything was slower and arguably far more immersive back in the day you felt more like a real part of the world like you were just a hunter who happened to be growing as things around you got worse but the result of that was you spent a lot more time farming the same things over and over whether it be consumables or materials from a single Monster just looking for one gem some people specifically love that the slow immersive feeling of that entire process and others just sort of didn't mind it while loving the actual monsters and the combat itself and playing continually because of that then we move on to the fifth generation and here is a good point to go over some console release history real quick for the series Monster Hunter and Monster Hunter Freedom 2 the original two games released on PlayStation 2 then Freedom Unite was on PlayStation Portable but then there is a 12year period from third gen through fourth gen where Monster Hunter as a whole existed purely on Nintendo consoles at least in the west with portable third existing in Japan and Korea for PlayStation 3 but this itself locked off a pretty big amount of potential audience at least in the west especially at the sort of age rating that monster hunter is aiming for the Boom in console gaming over the years has led to a much larger audience in Like Home console gaming in the west rather than portable and monster world was going to be the first Monster Hunter game released on these Platforms in a very long time not to mention also releasing for PC later on and unlocking an even larger audience as a result on top of this world itself is a massive departure from the previous games still an extremely immersive hunting experience but in a different way but the consoles that this game was put onto after the series was locked to Nintendo consoles for years especially with the fourth generation being entirely portable the graphics upgrade into world in the fifth generation was absolutely staggering the game was undeniably gorgeous and still holds up extremely well to this day the maps instead of being segmented zones were instead big sprawling beautiful artistic open Landscapes with no loading screens at all still acting similar in that monsters would only stick to certain patches of land that functions as zones but you could actually watch them travel there you could go alongside them trying to keep up instead of them just jumping off screen at the same time time they use this to make the Ecology of the game feel deeper to make it feel more real to add things like emic life to really flesh out the environments and as a whole all of their efforts made the world of Monster Hunter World feel way more alive than any monster hunter game before it more immediately immersive more it just passively immersive at the same time they dialed back on the farming requirements of all kinds they sped up tracking monsters they made Gathering a lot simpler and speedier Hunt times were faster and generally speaking the game felt easier more comfortable to exist in than it used to and world we started to have tents on the hunt that had our item box in them which meant that you can infinitely restock your potions you could eat food on a hunt if you forgot to do it beforehand this was a very important thing beforeand you could never forget in the old games or else you would just be nerfing yourself for the hunt whereas in world if you made an oopsie you could just fix it and that was a big thing that led to a major divide between just that and the item box in the old games you had the healing that you could carry in your pouch and maybe any supplies that were in the supply box if you were lucky part of the result of that was a much more methodical and slower hunting style because you knew that you had a limit to your healing you had to avoid being hit as much as possible which made you have to play in a more Safe Way in a way more realistically because in real life if one of these monsters grazed you even slightly you'd be split in half so having a style of gameplay balanced more around prioritizing your Hunter's Safety more than your offensive Effectiveness is quite immersive in its own way but then World gave us in Hunt item boxes which meant that you could essentially have infinite potions if you played your cards right and soon through world's life recycle it became apparent that due to this the only things they could really do to threaten us as Hunters were to create attack combos that were near impossible to get out of once you were hit by one part of it or one shot attack so that healing doesn't really matter or the third option you create a map situation where you cannot fast travel and you just turn off the use of farters so that you can only restock when you die and basically just as a whole redefined the pace of hunting because Hunters were incentivized through this to play offensively ballsy and then just Retreat to the tent and restock if they mess up it wasn't a big deal with changed how the developers had to think about balancing the game moving forward as well and designing new monster fights in that game it was still fun for sure it was still Monster Hunter even to the people that had played previous ones and weren't a fan of it they still accepted that it is Monster Hunter but the pacing and the concepts behind it were inherently very different a lot of veterans of the series fell in love with it anyways it was still the thing that they loved and where it had changed dramatically in some ways they sometimes weren't a big fan of there were also sweeping advancements like the living feeling of the world just made existing in the game feel enjoyable no matter what at the same time world being what it was the first Monster Hunter on Sony and Microsoft consoles in over a decade in the west looking as graphically good as it does as well and the immersive nature being clear even in the trailers it instantly made it catch a lot of traction with new players combine that with the game itself acting sort of like a soft reboot for the series in a way it also was far more new player friendly than any title in the past giving more comprehensive tutorials in a more engaging way than just peely text on your screen offering a training room for you to practice properly Within and even putting actual damage numbers on your screen so you had some sort of measure of whether you were getting stronger or Not by making different changes this in itself is something a lot of people don't like I'm very medium on it I would love a monster hunter game where you only saw numbers in the training room so you could actually judge the effectiveness of your set but not actually have to think about them on the hunt but as long as they are in the game I will use them because the game is balanced around the information that they give you as simple as that this crowd of new players was falling in love with monster hunter to record pace and they were falling in love with the monster hunter that they knew this was their only entry at this point it was Monster Hunter world and they simply didn't know much about the series outside of that and the veterans who didn't enjoy world just sort of laughed that off they didn't really care they joined in the fun with these new Hunters they picked up some new friends to hunt with and they had a great time they really enjoyed it the people that were salty saying that they would never play world because it was too different from what they loved however seemed to have made it their mission to insult world and World players as much as possible at least again the people that were vocal in the internet with the term fifth Fleer being used as a disc sometimes and I think that in itself is hilarious the other thing that aggravates this group was simple world was insanely popular and that meant that there was pretty much no chance that Capcom would ever go back to the old ways in a meaningful manner especially with the way that these games are designed they never really are meant to take a step back anyways every monster hunter game has been an evolution of the previous one adding in tons of new mechanics around these same core hunting Concepts keeping some things that they liked for the Next Generation but then discarding everything that they didn't want to actually stay to be left in their one game entry this has always been the way of the series but the rousing respon response to World meant that a lot of the new core things that changed in that game would likely just become the standard from that point forward so there was a vocal minority that basically just harassed the newer players insulted world at every Point possible for being babies the game's too easy it's too fast All That Jazz and then we got rise and this was an interesting moment because rise was once again a Nintendo exclusive on release eventually being ported to PC and late in Sun Break to Xbox and Playstation as well but to begin with it was Nintendo only and that instantly created another massive divide in the community after the success of world iceborn the actual majority of the fan base had started with those games which were on Xbox and Playstation before anything else and so they felt ensured that of course the next big game would also be on their console until it wasn't of course there was a big group still that also just happened to have a switch to and thought it'd be fun to play so they didn't care they were happy again that same group of people that just loves Monster Hunter and wants to enjoy the experience no matter what but this created a new salty group so to say which is the world and iceborne as the best in the series possibly because I can't actually play RIS it's not on a console I own and well you know they started instantly insulting rise for its quote unquote Playstation 2 graphics insulting how cartoony it is how unrealistic insulting how silly the dog is the wire bugs are ridiculous all that kind of stuff and my favorite thing about this when they started to sound exactly like the old school salty people sounded about world rise is worse than world because the Hunts are faster they are less immersive the Gathering is too simple it doesn't feel realistic anymore the equipment can be farmed way too quickly and also the monsters are too easy to kill there's no challenge there's no to actually hunting and tracking things it's just too simple the exact sentiments that were shared years before about world but even so with rise being the first switch-based fifth generation game it brought in even more new players especially with the massive success of world there was an audience of people who were now very aware of Monster Hunter but could not actually play world because their only console was a Nintendo switch so they couldn't try it but now they had rise to jump into and get into the series here rise is the most arcade likee style of Monster Hunter there is really outside of literal monster hunter arcade games which do exist and the hunts in this game are faster than ever the wire bugs increase the pace ridiculously especially wire fall as a mechanic in itself there is less time between hunts and when you load in you instantly know the location of every monster on the map it was designed to be the ultimate in conceptual Portable Monster Hunter designed for the switch the idea behind it was to create the Monster Hunter experience but playable in extremely short burst High adrenaline that classic Hunty goodness but with low time commitment required and it worked it was without doubt different than World different than the old school games too but it worked extremely well and was arguably another pretty large departure from even Monster Hunter World a game that was closer to world than old style games but still distinctly very separate and unique and so it got its own devoted to fan base simply because it was such a different Monster Hunter experience still Monster Hunter at its core but just a completely different feeling to the style of play and now we have the announcement trailer for wild in which there is the Slinger and the scoutfly cage and people are well aware that because of this we're likely moving away from that Rising sunbreak style more towards a world type of game again but we have Mount so hey that's our carryover from Rise and sunbreak here since that announcement though the return to world event has been going on where tons of people are playing Monster Hunter world again from the beginning and that has led that vocal minority within the rise Community to pop up who thinks their monster hunter game is the best one and is willing to fight to the death over it for some reason complaining about why so many people are playing World when Rises right there and it's the newest one so it should be the most relevant at all times and the thing is I think rise and sunbreak are perfect at what they set out to do and while their base mechanics will not continue as much into the sixth generation as some people might like I guarantee you they will do another portable Focus Monster Hunter game in the future and it's more than likely they will once again try to focus it in a way that gives you short burst fast-paced hunting experiences like rise and sunbreak so you'll get to eat your cake again one day even if it is a bit different and that's sort of the true beauty of Monster Hunter it always takes big risks always makes big moves and some of it sticks and moves forwards other parts don't and what that does is create a very unique special experience within each generation of the series even the ones that are closer to each other still have pretty big differences between each other and that's really awesome for one major reason to me every monster hunter game is somebody's favorite for some reason it's not like a generic game series where they put out the same thing every year so everyone's opinions are always identical it's either this one was great this one was bad everyone agrees and the reason for that is because every monster hunter game is a really good video game in a general context they are all Monster Hunter at their core and that core is such a beautiful thing to build off of that they never actually mess it up completely but they are all different enough from each other as games that they will have the perfect elements to hook in someone who may not have been hooked in the same way by a different monster enter game and because every game is playable as a solo experience and still able to be played today or hey there are even still active communities for multiplayer for some of the old games too if you actually know where to look and that means you can always play your favorite Monster Hunter whenever you actually want to yes the series will always continue to evolve and most of us are ready and willing to ride that train see wherever it goes but if you don't want to ride the train maybe instead of insulting the thing that people are excited about just enjoy the fact that your perfect Monster Hunter already exists it doesn't get better for you and that shouldn't be a problem to be something you're happy about maybe some of us are still searching for our perfect one that's it really I just wanted to talk about this whole thing from every side in a mostly measured way because I think at the end of the day especially on the internet every argument sort of stems from a misunderstanding I think in this case it it's just people not understanding other people's thoughts on the matter taking it too personally and then reflecting it back at the next generation of newbies and continuing this weird cycle of Internet arguing this doesn't cover everything either of course and if you are one of these people feel free to talk about your reasonings in the comments again I have no problem with these opinions or people who have them by any means I just think it's important to be thoughtful about how you choose to express them like if you like the video subscribe hit the notification Bell for more and most importantly ladies and gentlemen until next time stay sweet Josh cotton and Hollow with the videos dropping the humor like a hammer on your tippy toes bringing entertainment on a daily arrangement to take our insanity and turn it into entertainment yes I said entertainment twice to reiterate
