A Day in the Life of an Archivist

[Music] [Applause] [Music] so this is my cubicle as you can see I have a lot of our trip employment it's enjoyable working here at the archivist because as the archivist I not only need to handle these collections every day that I'm charged for taking care of them for my job here is sort over the three part the first one is to make sure that the collections are physically taken care of making sure that they're in appropriate Arkell housing or making sure that they are unfold and separated that nurse tea paper clips rubber bands are and that money that went into a system of folders or whatever housing is appropriate some thirties the second part of my job is to then sort of establish an intellectual and what I mean by that what's their inboxes - no what is it which box holder that can take several shapes mine is where each collection and through each folder we know exactly what's in it and so does the researcher they can look at the finding aids online and see exactly which box in which builders thing another way that we do that establish an intellectual control is to create collection level and item rapport records which are also available online these are going for our photographic collections so they can actually attach a digital image to the records and you as the user can flip through a digital photo op the third part of my job is taking care of the collections and an outreach sense as the archivist it's my job to advocate for them both the museum structure but also to make sure that you the public and the possible researchers that we want to No now getting collections online is definitely a huge part of that but to make sure that you know where to find that online we're doing several different adventurous moves including this YouTube video we're also working with Wikipedia to make sure that our collections information is involved in there as well as using a cirrus blog which you can find at s5 - Cirrus si R is dot blogspot now if you're interested in coming here to research the archives we are free and open to the public so you can do that anytime by calling us at 2:02 six three three zero five three three or sending us an email at AVR reference at si Dottie you we look forward to see [Music]
