[Music] day in the life of ds1 let's take you through a typical Monday or what what my Mondays typically consist of so 5:30 will hit I'll roll all the bed head to the kitchen and a quick cup of coffee and then go to my balcony and catch the sunrise over the skyline from here I'll take the elevator to the gym in my apartment complex calm at God make them breakfast shower and then we are off to school 7:30 hits and this is our essentials of clinic class which is kind of taught us everything from operating a dental unit to taking impressions of one another to placing sealants on teeth and really just getting familiar with the clinic floor next up at 9 o'clock we're in a simulation lab this is the class where we really practice throwing on fake teeth to kind of help us develop our manual dexterity and really just prep for real patients teeth that will see in our third and fourth years this class typically lasts about two to three hours so it's 11:30 12:00 o'clock squad time for lunch we have a cafeteria here at the school but with Detroit being kind of a food Mecca a lot of students here as well is going out to eat there's just so many different neighborhoods offering so many different dishes that sometimes that's honestly the hardest part of your day just figuring out what you're doing for after lunch we'll come back and get ready for the next set of classes students really use this downtime to either study for upcoming quizzes or exams we have during that week or we'll just all get together and play a bunch of ping pong I remember there's one time during finals week the health and wellness department of our school teamed up with a few local businesses for what was essentially an anti-stress fest I remember they were puppies and snacks and food all sorts of goodies the kind of provide a little morale booster to get through the week want to pocket and we're back in the classroom so your first year is pretty heavily science-based so we're taking everything from biochemistry to ologies terminology to anatomy and everything in between three o'clock we'll hit and we're finally off home take a break I remember for dental school a pretty terrified of the workload and whether or not you'd still be able to have a life outside of school you know but somehow someway you're always going to find a way to really just let go and release stress and when you do this you're going to want to do it with the classmates one of my favorite parts about that school so far is that you're pretty much around for at least 40 hours a week you really surrounded by just these incredibly intelligent and caring individuals who have extremely similar morals hobbies beliefs and intentions that you do so everyone really just wants to learn and give back in any way that they can so when you put yourself in a class of 144 or these people you're really going to get something special so with dentistry and dental school in particular there's just so many opportunities to give back and really make a difference in someone's life going to hand whether it's teaching oral hygiene instruction at i electric school or volunteering on a mission trip or putting kids at a local gym for mouth guards essentially every single day does about everything that you're giving your time of day to has relevance to what you want to do or I see the rest of your life and to me there's really no better feeling I wouldn't want it any other way [Music]
