I don't know why he's so surprised, Harvey Norman's had a reputation for being terrible for at least 15 years now. The Australian equivalent of Consumer Reports rated it the worst Australian company for customer service and the CEO is well known for being a complete dick.

but what about talking to the people in the first store he went into? i feel that would have been a much better store to go into and reveal who he was and tell them that he didn't like the service there

I remember someone talking about these kind of shows and saying how it's not exactly a huge revelation that some people working in shops might just be working there to pay the bills and not really be that into it. A lot of companies seem to expect amazing salesmen at minimum wage pay.
