A BIG TURBO S15 Silvia is Dangerous as Hell

James we can finally drive your car now and I'm terrified to be [Music] honest clouds and the ocean studies the floor feel in the mountain peaks where speaks and talks we're not alone we not we [Applause] not we're not we James goon first things first where are we we are in aasa Georgia what car are we in we are in S5 syvia if you did not know if you're new here this is the exact same S15 from 2015 that we road trip down together in from Virginia all the way to Tampa Florida as you can imagine we were a little nervous about driving an S15 for 2 days down the East Coast that long ago let's just say that and uh it was a naturally aspirated SR20 and it eventually started leaking oil then we decided barely barely that's very important barely and then we decided to uh drive it onto your patio and start 2J swapping it basically the same day yep well at the time it sounded like a really good idea I already I I got the car because I knew I wanted to swap it and then project cars became project cars here we are all those years later uh thanks to Allan at Excel Motorworks I'm just saying if your wife tells you your Nissan is garbage just don't listen to her just just keep it and just let it love you it loves you it's come a long way full harness uh built head cammed went through the entire block made sure refresh the entire thing yeah cuz when I had it when I brought it to him I had the stock 2J in it with r154 mounted and he basically just made everything work I'm renaming the shop fixing every other Shop's LLC all right time to recalibrate my brain cuz it's right-and Drive the other thing is is this was the second ever rhand drive car I ever drove first one was an R32 Skyline it was a gtst cuz those were IL legal first finally you got it all sorted out and then you got it painted you painted it this colar and it looks freaking gorgeous Rio Testo from Lamborghini at the same time got the big intercooler in the front it looks like a Silvia right it looks like how it's supposed to look full Arrow kit Arrow bumper Arrow Sid skirts which uh which arrow kit did you go with it's the arrow Factory one that's right it looks that good it looks that good it's kind of like tight backs on the s13s right cuz you did have an s13 A lot of people don't know that but you had one I believe in Hawaii right another thing is your hood you have a nice little cutout for your turbo to peek out of yeah we we didn't want to cut the Hood um just the turbo was just sitting little too high and so Allan and I we kind of talked about like we didn't want to cut the hood maybe do a custom hood stuff like that and then I was just like just cut get it done just when the car was stock since it wasn't some special edition or anything like that a lot of people didn't realize it was an S15 the S15 is it was slept on so much um people would see me driving I mean I drove the S15 to work all the time up in Virginia Beach is that a Grand Prix exactly like everyone like people would like look over at me as they're passing me or whatever and then like do the double tank cuz you're a rightand drive yeah the interior is so much better compared to the s13 and S14 S14 is decent but this is a massive step up yep what really made me go I need to come down and finally drive this thing again after years is you told me that this was scary than Jasmine yes and Jasmine still to this day is one of the scariest cars I've driven but Jasmine was scary in like a fun way it it was like uh I know I shouldn't but I want to do it again she was insanely fast the a will drive crab walking right but overall like it was the speed that was the scary part yeah this one it feels like you're not in control oh God which you can control it pretty well but this car this car scares me you had to pick one Jasmine or this one gotcha I love Jasmine I miss Jasmine this car is not giv me as many headaches I don't know I I drove Jasmine a lot more uh I was telling David earlier this this car even with the 2JZ which they naturally just like to run hot this thing runs so cold it takes forever to warm up takes forever to warm up and we have safeties on on the tune so that before it's that operating temperature it can't go into boost and stuff like that I work 5 minutes from home it can't even warm up in that time to get you to work so it just doesn't really ever get driven what kind of power do we were we were going to go for like 800 and we realized with this L of a car it's at um almost 650 like real close to 650 okay and so it's and you'll notice once you like really get on it there's zero traction yeah cuz I drove Adam lzs S15 the green one yep that was an SR20 car in that it I mean it is set up for drifting but still like still it was just spinning all over the [Music] place we're on Archer blades in the back there's just nothing you do and like the thing the fix to it is to cut it up in wide body and throw one fatter tires I just don't really want to cut up the car it looks so good yeah so plus it's sometimes fun just to have the useless car you know what I mean where you just goof it off feel you're going to spin like crazy but it's actually pretty darn straight straight yeah but also the r154 if you do not know it's an old transmission it's a real old transmission so you have to be very gentle with it through your shifts so there not going to be any money shifting or anything like that with this it's just cruising making cool boost noises quickest way to The Brak in r154 is just yeah dude it even feels like it's still running cold yep it's not hot enough oh my God James what cooling system do you have in this thing dude nothing crazy well no wonder you don't drive this thing you're like Jesus I have to drive at 100 miles to get it to do what I want to do when she's at operating temp though she is great so quick update uh this might look weird but essentially we drove around for about a half hour I'd say and the car never got hot so James gets in the driver's seat and goes let me in the driver's seat see what's going on it took over 40 minutes for the car to do a single boost pull a single one because it was still not up to temperature yet so now we're going to lower tire pressure cuz it's spinning like crazy off camera he did a pull when it finally went into boost and it was bananas okay back to the video we drove all way back to your house drop tire pressure uh and then realize that you basically have a window of time to enjoy this car cuz your cooling system is too good first car in my entire history of reviewing cars a cooling system is too good James we can finally drive your car now and I'm terrified to be honest and you were saying the most fun to drive this car is actually like three Force throttle it's really not even that fun right if you can really feel where the tire are starting to slip and just keep it right below that and then slowly going up as it it's a it's a driver's car well we also lowered the tire pressure to what 20 20 yeah I'll do a baby one and I'll warm up is that okay J yep okay okay yep got it third I'm going dead center of the road this is actually scarier than riding in [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Jasmine okay yeah you might notice I'm kind of letting the revs hang there for a second in between getting back on throttle and yes I know that's not great for an engine but it's life or death in this thing like he's James is not kidding this car is you need to be on top of it the entire time I'm glad we lower the tire pressure as it is helping for sure it feels like somebody in Forza Horizon or Forza Forza Motorsport built an S15 and put 1,000 horsepower in it that's exactly what this car feels like where no matter how much tuning you do or what tire you put on it's going to spin like just dude i' so this is the first time I've been passenger in this car right but I'll throw anyone in in the Twin Turbo Lambo I'll throw anyone in Jasmine or any of my other cars this is the one that I I won't let people drive literally out out of safety I'm being an elitest right now the answer is no like I would never throw the keys to this to anybody like I'm privileged I I get it but still you were special one I mean I I obviously I trust you you've driven what every single one of my cars um but still no even this is so finicky so it's twiy you need to know this car pretty darn well it's really Twitchy spinning I've also never felt the you know the throwback in the seat from this car cuz I've never ridden passenger oh it it it throws you good dude because the power to wait is insane man I I don't even know how to describe the feeling of it when you're like really getting on it I just know I just know in my peripheral vision the faces you're making God brings me back to Jasmine know D my palms are sweaty on you you just did the thing I like compare this to when you drove Jasmine Jasmine had a similar feeling acceleration level um but even with all four tire spinning you were still pretty confident in what was going to happen it was PR it was predictable chaos this is just be [Applause] careful that that number one thing that goes in your brain is you have nothing to prove be careful well that's that's why I was telling you like this car scares me more than Jasmine 100% now I believe you 100% now I mean you just have to really know when to sorry when to let out of it but it's on the line of at any time at any time it can get a little crazy yeah and this loses traction not in a fun way you know what I mean I mean it's kind of fun okay I would say first and second gear Funway third gear questionable fourth gear no fourth gear in this is questionably scary uh cuz the thing with the 2J is that they always keep pulling and if you feel like you're not getting your quote unquote money's worth if you're not staying in it but the problem is if you stay in it you're counter steering at 100 yeah you have to legitimately plan your accelerations in this you cannot just goof around in it get on it you have to look way in the distance you need to see your surroundings you have to look on both sides of the road everything even Road you're on like even this is like a little bumpy of a road like that goes into consideration just because of if you try to do a pull like just how crazy it gets real fast like it gets real crazy really fast now you feel it get like one two five lounds of boost and then it goes from 5 lbs of boost to that that hooked up pretty good yeah find a place to do a two three pull a two three keeping you guessing third gear hunting for it Jesus there it is definitely the the best one yeah definitely the best one so far I don't get butterflies in cars anymore man dude like uh James what suspension do you have on this uh this is BC racings uh they fancy BR setup um I hit up Adam I was like Hey like what do you what do you run that you really like for Street and for traction and so he he hooked me up with these also I know with the steering when you're doing a 2J these isn't there some issues like with clearance and stuff yeah so because on rightand Drive the steering shaft is right where the turbo setup goes right um so luckily Allan was able to have a fabricator come in and actually make one that actually clears it real well so yeah Allan by the way is also the same Allen that uh went through my coyote swap Series so definitely check that out and see the stress he had to go through with that another reason why I wanted to bring it up was S15 sit stupid low naturally and it's not until you kind of stand right above them you go this car's small it's a small car cuz in photos it looks big it looks big it's it looks like a normal size car yeah it looks like a normal sized car but like you were saying that the s14s wouldn't fit in Japanese compact spaces so they made the S15 that much smaller yeah the the compact car class in Japan uh you has to measure a certain distance length width height all that fun stuff and the S14 was barely outside of it so they actually made the s115 just a little bit smaller so that it was actually considered a compact car makes sense James show what's in your glove box a newspaper from Japan this was in the car when it got imported and I just kept it cuz it's cool do you guys know what that date actually means let me know you've opened a whole can of worms James just so we have it do you have any final thoughts about the S15 and your journey everything you've had with this car so we were talking the other day how both of our s chassis uh your Coupe and this car ended up actually being seven 7year builds cuz I bought it D I bought this car for 12 Grand imported everything oh that's right a stock spec gas right now um with higher mile mileage than this car is going for like 30 35 oh my God so started it I was driving it daily ended up started building it Jasmine took over with all of her shenanigans 7 years and thanks to Allan at Excel he got her done done I don't really drive her that often but today when you were taking your your the glamour shots of it I just kept like looking at it going man like I really like
