Erykah Badu lets listen to it i want yall to pay attention to the flute sound here we go real dope simple melody a lil bit more real simple right alright so this is what we're gonna do heres the technique i gotta sample here right im gonna change this into 16 levels right and here's the key you wanna figure out what key your sample is in thats why its always good if u happen to come across a soundkit and it has the names of the chords in it you know for example if it says Eminor chord or whatever or if the chord is in the key of A or C or B or whatever it is or if you just happen to find your own sample find out what the key is and they have apps that help u do that just do the research man google and then once you find out what the key of the sample is im gonna show u a formula alright so let's listen to this sample i have right here alright this is my sample and i know i already know what key this is in this is in the key of A so once u find your key i want u to count up ok i want u to count up 7 half steps or 7 pads imma show yall on the pads and then show you on the keyboard ok so i know this is in the key of A i wanna go back to the sound that i wanna use my melody on for this case i want this to be my melody sound so i have to find the key of A so use your ears im go into 16 levels turn that on and find that key where it was there it is right there let me go back to the other sample so it matches i got my key alright so once i found my key these are the same note by the way just an octave apart imma count up 7 half steps up or 7 pads 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 again 1234567 counting up once u get that pad u gonna turn that into a minor chord right a minor chord if u wanna figure out how to play chords check out this ebook you'll see a link somewhere on this video or just do the research u know find out how to play minor chords they're all over youtube even if u wanna play it on the keyboard so once u find that key make it a minor chord right so i already know how to play a minor chord on here this is it thats a minor chord ok so now that i have my chord i can make that my melody just using these 3 notes im keeping it simple simple technique man and match it up and u can kinda go out of bounds if u want to and use separate notes but use these as your 3 main notes ok and thats based off of finding the key of the sample the key was right here this was the main key so i counted 1234567 made that into a minor chord im messing with a beat and imma just play on top of it see and that works man just using those 3 notes now if u wanna go outside of those 3 notes u can just use ur ears but im going back to these 3 main notes see what im saying lets go to the keyboard once again this is the keyboard version play the sample and u gonna match i get this question a lot so hopefully this will answer that question for people that ask me how do u find the key of a sample use ur ears and hum it listen to the bass of it so imma listen for that note there it is so its this note it happens to be A and i already knew that bcuz i knew this was a Aminor if u dont know what the key the sample's in so once u find out the key all u do is count up 7 half steps each half step is a note dont skip any notes so u count start from the note and count up 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 so it would be that count up 1234567 once u get to that key u make that into a minor chord so in this case im on E so imma make that into a minor chord e minor and u can google this again u can search how to play a e minor chord on youtube google whatever ok E minor chord and this applies to any key so lets say the key was this right and your sample was in this key so u count up 7 half steps 1234567 it would be this and u turn that into a minor chord so lets go back to the original it was here so i counted up 1234567 and then u just use these 3 notes as ur melody and just play with them do whatever and play or go outside if u want to see what im saying try it out have fun do what u do man aint no wrong way of doing it these are just guidelines and inspiration man i listen to beats i get inspired i wanna share thats what i do peace hit that thumbs up button check out the website subscribe
