#993 We made a MAJOR PURCHASE! The BEAST has arrived!

so welcome back everyone to a gloomy day here in western pennsylvania but i'm sure you can tell from the title of today's video we made a major purchase uh it's something that's going to help us out tremendously here on the property and believe it or not melissa was completely on board with the idea now she may deny that from time to time but i have documented proof of that hidden in a secure location but right now i need to finish loading up this ibc tote right here move some wood around and i'll show you what we got [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] do [Music] all right i got my uh firewood basket put away now i'm gonna go get the bx out of the building here and try to move some of these big logs with it i'm not sure if it'll do it or [Music] not i'll tell you what i'm impressed i didn't think the backhoe on the bx would lift that log it's probably 2500 pounds maybe even a little bit more but anyway right now we're going to talk about the major purchase that we got [Music] so [Music] [Music] i won't let you go i won't let you go [Music] and baby i'm so now i hope for her i hope that we can get it on [Music] we bought a kubota kx 57-4 excavator now in the last couple videos i left several clues and a lot of people picked up on the clues i guess they weren't that difficult but a lot of guys guessed that we got an excavator and that is correct it was just delivered this morning i bought it uh last week and it is a beauty i mean this is a really nice machine i think what i'm going to do here we're going to set this log off to the side and we'll pull this over in the open and we'll kind of go over some of the controls the features the specs just a little bit and then we'll talk about why i bought this machine all right as i said this is the kubota kx 57-4 this machine weighs in as it sits right there just a little bit under 13 000 pounds uh forty seven and a half horsepower i got the thumb and by the way i really like the uh design of this thumb i like this curve to it right here really nice for logs got two sets of auxiliary hydraulics one as you can see the thumb is hooked into it right now this one uh i'll probably at some point get an auger maybe i could run that and leave the thumb on the machine got the quick coupler and three buckets this is the 30 inch bucket right here i got an 18 inch bucket and i also have a four foot bucket i don't have it yet it'll be here next week but it's like a grating bucket with no teeth that'll be a really really handy bucket to have four feet wide should work out fantastic it's got the blade on it and by the way that is a angle blade really nice feature there this is pretty handy right here right here where you feel the machine you can push this button i think you have to have the key on i have to check but when you're fueling the machine it will beep and the beeping will increase in speed as you're getting closer to being filled up so you don't spill fuel all over the machine which is really nice feature we'll take a look under the hood here [Music] everything's real easy to get to on this this has the diesel particulate filter right here here's where you check your oil fill your oil look at that there's a sight glass for your hydraulic tank where you fill the hydraulic tank fuel filters right here tell you what for as small you know and compact as the house is everything's very uh very accessible they're really well thought out what we'll do we'll hop up in the cab and i'll set a camera up outside here and we'll kind of go over all the controls and show you what everything does all right looking inside the cab here plenty of room first off the bat i want to show you this right here this is a selector to change the pattern on your joysticks i have it set to where i want it right now i just see you got a 12 volt outlet right there over here flip this up and this is your boom swing right here left or right not the whole house just the boom i'll show you that here in just a minute these two right here that controls your forward and backward and you can flip these down i like how they did that because i normally don't use my feet uh to drive it so you can flip them up give you more room down here on the floor i do like that but anyway let's hop up in here and we'll fire it up and we'll go over a few other things actually a bunch of other things okay over here on the right side you have your heat in your ac over here windshield wiper got a nice stereo in here with bluetooth these are your lights i think this is an auxiliary switch if you had a beacon on it which i don't this switch here is for eco mode and this is for your dpf all right let's start it up all right first thing we'll do is we'll put this safety bar down right here we're good to go all your controls are live right now come over here to the right side you got this joystick right here underneath it there's a button that controls your two speed it's a two speed machine click on that for rabbit click on it again for turtle now to lift your blade very simple you just pull back on this joystick like so push down drop your blade back down also has a float mode and how do you engage that is just push it all the way forward and it's in float we're going to pick it back up a little bit this button right here controls the angle angle right angle left one thing it's i really like here you see down there in the front it's got that little orange two orange paint marks there to know that your blade is centered up again now as far as the thumb goes you're going to turn this on for your auxiliary hydraulics right here on your right joystick push it to the left closes the thumb to the right opens it this same controller right here pull back lifts your boom up push down lowers your boom now we're still on this joystick here move it to the right dumps your bucket move it to the left curls it in now over on this side another joystick just like the other one this one here if you push the joystick forward or down it's going to extend your stick out you're gonna pull it back pulls your stick in move it to the left swings left move it to the right swings right and by the way the controls are just incredibly smooth they're amazing they really are so i haven't run this machine at all yet the only thing i did with it was move that one log but it is just incredibly smooth i mean it's amazing how nice these machines are now if you remember a while back i uh i rented a kubota kx80 excavator which is bigger than this one i think the 80 is probably around 18 000 pounds maybe a little bit more but i think this one here is the right size for me this is a really it's the perfect size it is in my opinion something like this you can kind of do i mean you can do real work i mean you can load dump trucks you can dig deep trenches you can lift big logs you can clear trees but yet it's not so big that if you're working right next to a house or digging along a foundation uh you can still do that as well plus once you get into those big ones like the kx80 which i think they call like a midsize excavator you know you need a whole other truck and a trailer much bigger than you do for something like this although this is pretty heavy 13 000 pounds but one thing i didn't show you is that uh just swinging the the boom with this foot pedal here we'll do that now just step on that pedal to the right this is real nice when you're working right next to houses or whatever swing it over to the left now that is not as smooth as your joystick controls but that's not something that i'll even use that much but it's nice to have i also have a mirror kit for it it didn't come in yet it was ordered but i may just end up putting that on a shelf in the garage to tell you the truth at some point maybe i'll put the mirrors on i have found that when you're out in the woods the mirrors kind of catch limbs a little bit and visibility out of this machine is so good uh i don't really need mirrors i don't i don't use them much when i'm in an excavator now if i was out working on a job with a bunch of people around me uh yeah i definitely have mirrors just kind of give you a more sense of what's going on around you but this is a nice footprint in this machine and like i said the visibility out it's amazing i can see everything all around me and uh really really nice i'm really pleased uh with this purchase i think it was a great move what we'll do melissa will come on and we're going to talk about why we bought this and what we're going to do with it so what do you think melissa it's beautiful it is nice isn't it yeah i'll tell you what i am uh i don't want to get it dirty right now i don't and i i would be better off right now just to take it down by the pond or something and get it all hogged up and be done with it but uh it looks so nice the way it is i mentioned a little bit ago how it was delivered today everything worked out just fine almost uh we unloaded down on the road he brought like a f-550 or something and a big trailer and so he didn't back up the driveway and i thought everything was going good we had melissa down the road directing traffic and then you want to tell them what happened then yeah so did you mention that so mike started by sitting at neighbor cliff in genie's driveway yeah slowing traffic down then he realized i should go over there and help him make this faster so he's like well let's come stand here i'm like okay first of all i just had a sweatshirt on so it's freezing but neighbor best friend jeannie saved me she was pulling out of her driveway and was like what are you doing and she gave me her coat thank you genie so that part then what happened so i'm telling people you know giving them little emotions and as i gander towards they're still unloading i see what could be sasquatch but it wasn't hunter morgan down at the road going through mike morgan's truck yeah he uses that opportunity he saw my truck sitting down there at the four ways trying to see if i had a drink or something in there and he had his ipad he carries it like a waiter he comes back up the house i'm like fine doing my traffic motions i look here he comes again i'm like hunter get out of there i come over guess what the worst of the worst he had the dogs out and boom they followed him they followed our scent and they're all down by the road i'm like oh no the dogs never go down there but whenever melissa someone takes the garbage down they can smell archie will track you right down there and they knew something was going on so that could have turned pretty ugly in a hurry but i'm down there on the machine she's up here she realized what was going on um she's trying to get them to come up but they spotted me so they wanted to come over to me i'm like no no no all of a sudden slowing traffic down was not the most important thing the most important thing was to keep those three knuckleheads from going out on the road yeah and sasquatch he ipad and drink yeah running up to the driveway thanks hunter but we got it up here and so far i love it uh it's gonna be a really nice addition here so i mentioned to a buddy the other day that uh we were buying this excavator and he said what are you gonna do with an excavator and i told him i said the better question is what am i not going to do with that excavator this opens up so many possibilities i mean building roads clearing trees digging stumps we have a cistern to put in here for the new building melissa swimming pool we will use this a lot to assist down at the sawmill it'll be so quick and easy to pick and move big logs around but i think this is the great size machine for what we need around here it's not too big but yet it's not too small you can do tons of work with something like this now initially i was looking for like a used machine and i couldn't really find anything under like three or four thousand hours and then i got to talking to a few of my contractors at work uh two of them in particular have the one has i think five or six of these 57s and a couple of the kx 80s and they absolutely love them uh he's telling me our day they have one with 6 000 irs on it they replaced tracks maybe a couple times but they have been flawless and they love them and they knew that i had rented that kx80 and they told me you're even gonna like this better and uh uh it's just i don't know it just has a nice it sits nice you know what i mean it's proportioned really well who was that woodford thank you very much yeah yeah woodford told me that i really appreciate it and then one of our other contractors they run a bunch of these and kubota skid loaders as well and uh it just worked out but uh i appreciate that thank you so much could someone please tell mike what a great swimming pool they have and yeah life is so much easier since they have one you had to get this this is you know you're getting a cart before the horse you need this to dig the pool you know guess what everybody i know what you're going to be doing we have a couple lights in the kitchen that need repaired yeah i'm going to do that he's just going to put the boom right in through the window and yeah i did do a uh i replaced a plug the other day having just minor things wear out in your house you know what i mean they do plugs get sloppy and stuff so i replace one of them but we have a light above the table that's acting up but uh what else is going to talk about this excavator hi you don't want to get it dirty yeah i don't want to get it dirty but i'm going to get it dirty i'll get it dirty yeah we're going to teach melissa how to run this i think it'll be great when we have a big pile of firewood poles or whatever her sitting in a machine just picking them up she can set the bucket down on the ground nice and safe but keep them up off the ground for me and i can blow through them with that i mentioned we got three buckets for it 18 30 in the 48 inch grating bucket the same guy that loves these machines that has a bunch of them because i was going to get a 24 inch bucket and he said it handles a 30 fine you know digging even in shale and stuff like that so that's a sizable bucket on this machine right there the big four footer that we'll get will be used for grading you know like these slopes down around the building spreading topsoil i mean spreading stone loading the dump trailer all sorts of things so this is just kind of a introduction video to this machine you'll be seeing a lot of it we did go over the controls and some of the features if you have any questions let me know in the comments and we'll do our best to accommodate that but like i said you'll be seeing this a lot i have a whole list in on my desk there are different things i want to do with this and what's nice with the tracks and everything i'm not going to be as affected by the weather so you know we have some pieces of the property we'd like to clear some trees we've got all sorts of plans and this opens up a whole new world of possibilities and the other thing i wanted to mention this i'm glad i brought this up i usually rent one of these uh a mini excavator three or four times a year and it's kind of i enjoy it and i get a lot done but it's kind of stressful because you start 20 different things and you're running around like a maniac and you know it's going to go back on monday and you get a lot done but you never get everything quite finished you know what i mean and you get a lot of different things opened up well this time this test will tell because that's what he's always said yeah has to go back and didn't get finished melissa i'm sorry i wasn't able to finish painting the bedroom yeah the machine had to go back but this one doesn't have to go back we bought it uh anything you'd like to speaking of buying it you have a story yeah you know i don't know if you remember what was happening that day when he ordered this yeah i'm sure it was just hey melissa i'm gonna order this what's that okay great no it was a lengthy conversation found on our apple tv a movie that hunter loves to watch that he loved to watch as a young boy called once upon a force oh yeah and it's from the 90s it's cute um i found it it was 9.99 to buy it and i'm like do i really want to buy it i know we have it on dvd she debated for an hour on whether to buy them more than an hour and then i'm like okay i get the dvd and then we don't have a dvd player that works so i'm like i guess i'll order it you know i know hunter has a gift card apple the itunes or apple account or whatever and then it's 9.99 and then i go to bed that night thinking hey did he toss and turn over over spending i slept really well i sleep good i do i uh a lot of times when i go to sleep i wake up in the exact position that i went to bed i seriously stressed over 9.99 yeah but i did buy it for anyone that's like is she crazy the answer to that could be yes but hunter has it he's watched it and enjoys it yeah but anyway i think that's it one more thing don't forget to check out melissa's channel morgan's off the leash she's been cranking out some videos for a while there you were like one every two to three weeks and now you're a couple a week and they're good videos okay and most of the people that watch this channel are men about 92 percent so melissa does like cooking crocheting the dogs the kids all types of stuff maybe share some of those videos with your wives they may like to see that or your kids or whatever invite them to to watch it i think they would enjoy it yeah and it's um it's very real of this is what we how we live and what we look like like when i open up my oven i have to take my bungee cord off the oven door it's still broke and uh people were like oh that's a dirty oven i'm like actually to me we should probably wrap this video up now that we're talking about our broken oven you know i'm rambling here but we we went to buy a new oven it's a wall mount and we've had the same oven yeah and it works you know it works fine but the door's all jacked up you lose screws over the years and we had a guy who's a good guy because i couldn't get it going i couldn't get the door back together right and the one day hunters out there we hear a big bang and hunter has the whole oven door and he's setting it on the on the table in the kitchen um and then he folded the towel up that was on it acted like we wouldn't notice so anyway i've just talked too long but we had this guy come on he puts it all back together and he's like it's not going to last i'm like that's it we're going to get a new oven we got a lowe's remember and they're like 2 200 2 000. and then they tell you you want to stay away from these ones because the panels go bad in them and start telling us all the things that are going to go wrong with them i'm like we'll stick with the bungee cord we didn't want to order a year's worth of a chef we just wanted yeah oven yeah but this wall mounts are expensive but anyway enough about that uh maybe next year melissa we're thrilled about the excavator we'll work on getting her a new oven and uh it's gonna be exciting we're gonna get a lot of stuff done around here and it'll make for good content as well and it'll probably start attracting uh different types of people to the channel maybe you know small contractors people that buy these uh but yeah it's good it's really good it's gonna be good for everybody and
