just help a cure to be found soon and for other things to to be well with with people again father we're thankful for those that have improved and father we're just thankful for every blessing that you give us every day of our life just always watch overs and care for us in christ's name amen last week we picked back up on our study of biblical types and and we will pick that up again tonight if this thing will work it's not moving glenn it's your fault there it goes last week we talked about the tabernacle and we talked about part of it at least and and the things that would be similar to what we have today we talked about last week about the outer court and we said within the outer court a gentile or pretty much anybody could go but before someone could go inside the tabernacle which we said would be a type of a church they had to that priest had to offer that blood sacrifice there had to be blood shed and he had to wash himself and we said just like a person that desires to to be a part of christ church today there has to be blood and water before that person can be a part of that and we talked in great detail about that and i won't go back into it but once that priest would offer that sacrifice and then he would wash himself he would go inside of the tabernacle and within the the first room of the tabernacle you had the lamp stand you've got the table of showbread and you've got the altar of incense and we began a little bit to talk about uh that golden lamp stand and i told you guys and you can look this up on your own donnie barnes barnes bible charts he's got some great information on the tabernacle and i'm going to use a little bit of it tonight and he's got a website i think it's bible charts.org uh but you get on there and there's tons of things that you can look at that's really beneficial when it comes to the to the lamp stand it says that it was made of a talent of pure gold now according to him a talent weighs 75 pounds how much is gold per ounce anybody know i don't have any gold so somebody could tell me if they wanted to but that's a lot of money isn't it in a lamp a 75 pound solid gold lamp with inside of that tabernacle room and we said the purpose of that lamp was to put forth light and the tabernacle did not have windows if you remember we talked about just a little bit and the only thing that illuminated that room was the lamp and we said when the priest went in the lamp would illuminate where he could see to do the things that he needed to do and we said christ is the light of the world and he is what illuminates us to be able to do the things that we need to do we talked about the fact that the only way that light would leave that room is that the priest had to take that light with him and in a symbolic fashion the only way the light of christ can leave his church is you and i have to take that light with us wherever we go the bible tells us that that lamp was kept burning continually continually think about that someone had to take care to make sure that that light never went out someone had a job to go in and and to trim the wick now some of you older people why was that necessary why do you have to go in and and trim the wig to get keep this thing going you guys are smarter than me on that we used to have a cold old lantern and we would use it when the lights went out but that was when i was a boy and i don't remember a lot about it it was necessary though to trim that wick right when the old part of it got bad it would no longer burn right anymore and you could use that and you could say that would be symbolic of us as christians if we're going to keep our lights shining brightly we've got to keep the old parts trimmed off don't we we've got to keep things out of our life that would cause our light not to shine like it needs to shine and and someone had that job someone had the job to continually keep oil there in the lamp so the lamp would continually shine so we said the light would be jesus he is the one that illuminates the world he's the light of the world next is the table of showbread what was the purpose of the table of showbread what was on it that should be an easy question bread right bread it was bread upon this table and the bible says there were vessels of pure gold put up on this table it was set up like there was going to be a meal and every week they would bake 12 new cakes of bread and they would be about 6 pounds of flour and they would arrange them in two rolls six loaves each and each one of these loaves the ingredients were gathered from the 12 tribes and according to donny barnes this was typified of christian giving these tribes had to come together and they had to bring the things in order to make this bread and within the church today the only way that we're able to do anything is we come together and we give which enables us to be able to do a lot of different things it also would be symbolic of christ jesus himself said in john chapter 6 i'm the bread from heaven if any man eats of me he won't hunger again it'll sustain him all of those things jesus is that bread also it would be symbolic of the lord's supper that priest would go in every week and they would eat that bread right and then they would make new bread and they would put it out but he did that every week just like every week we come together and we eat the lord's supper together and remember when we talk about all of this the only people authorized to worship within the tabernacle were the priests the only people authorized to worship god today are are christians and according to first peter 2 verse 9 we are a holy priesthood we are priests today therefore we are authorized to worship god all right the third piece of furniture the altar of incense what happened if you used the wrong fire on the altar of incense you got killed didn't you nadab and bahu found that out the wrong way they used strange fire where was the fire supposed to come from outside right in the very first one the brazen altar and he was supposed to take the coals from the brazen altar inside and put it on the altar of incense and offer that incense up before god all right when he would do that it would be symbolic of prayers in fact revelation chapter 5 revelation chapter 8 verses 3 and 4 all talks about the prayers of the saints and it describes them as incense going up before god so this priest would go in and he would offer that incense and it would be a sweet smelling savor unto god when christians faithful christians offer up their prayer before god it is a sweet smelling savor in the years of god remember back sunday morning first peter 3 verse 12 the eyes of the lord are over the righteous and his ears are open under their prayers he wants to hear us pray he wants to talk to us in fact the priest i want you to notice something the priest had to minister at the brazen altar she editing the blood of an animal or their sins before they were able to come before a holy god in prayer they had to do that first they had to to contact that blood before they could offer prayer before they could offer this incense you and i we have to contact that blood before we can offer prayer and they're a god god doesn't hear sinners john 9 31 he doesn't open his ears under their prayers isaiah 59 1-2 his ears are closed to their prayers second the priests had to wash all defilement from their hands and feet we also had to be washed in the water before we can offer up our prayers in the god on that figurative altar of incense third the priests had to be in the holy place to offer the incense of prayer the holy place represents the church you and i we have to be members of the lord's church before our prayers can be offered up to a holy god all of these things are are very similar when it comes to the temple and when it comes to the altar of incense next as you go through the tabernacle you have the veil now when we think of the veil we would think about when christ died what happened to that veil this thing's 60 feet tall this thing is huge what happened to the veil it was torn in two it separated uh what kept us separate from god is what the veil did the holy of holies is where god was said to dwell and the veil is what separated that you could say that the veil today is a type of death if the holy place represents the church and the holy of holies in the tabernacle and the temple represents heaven veil would be representative of death in a sense and when we pass through the veil only then can we go on in to heaven and only when we go through the church and we go through all the things god would have us to do can we pass through the veil in the correct way in order to access the joys that are there before us we could spend a lot of time continuing to go over this but hopefully get the picture to open your bibles if you would to leviticus chapter six leviticus chapter six we're going to run through several different things and hopefully again will help us to better understand a little bit some of these things that we're trying to talk about you know as you're reading through genesis and exodus your bible is is very interesting and i enjoy reading genesis in exodus but when you get to leviticus what happens be honest it's kind of tough right you know when you kind of get there and you're like man there's a lot of things here and i don't really understand what all these things are but hopefully some of the things we're going to talk about tonight is going to open our eyes to help us to better see what these things are if you go through the first i believe seven chapters of leviticus you're going to read about all of these different offerings that were to be offered that was to satisfy god you're going to read about all these different burnt offerings and sin offerings and guilt offerings and you're going to read about grain offerings offered to be in thanksgiving to god and and what are these things what was the purpose why does god reveal all of that unto us well all of those things typified christianity today and all of those things typified jesus christ and i want us just for a little bit in leviticus chapter 6 to read and just to see and if we can open our eyes of faith and we can begin to see these things then maybe the book of leviticus will will be a little bit more beneficial to us and a little bit more enjoyable to read let's start in verse 8 and the lord spoke unto moses saying command aaron and his sons saying this is the law of the burnt offering it is the burnt offering because of the burning upon the altar all night until the morning and the fire of the altar shall be burning in it and the priest shall put on his linen garment and his linen bridges shall be upon his flesh and take up the ashes which the fire hath consumed with the burnt offering on the altar and he shall put them beside the altar and he shall put off his garments and put on other garments and carry forth the ashes without the camp unto a clean place and the fire upon the altar shall be burning in it it shall not be put out and the priest shall burn wood on it every morning and lay the burnt offering in order on it and he shall burn thereof the fat of the peace offering verse 13 the fire shall ever be burning upon the altar it shall never go out now i want us to think about that just for a minute he says the fire will ever be burning you never let it go out somebody's there every morning making sure it's going somebody's already even make sure it's going somebody's got to be there continually making an offering well that says a couple things number one the blood of bulls and goats could do what could not do what could not take away sins and therefore they had to continually make offering after offering after offering because it could never take away sins all it did was what all it did was pacify god for a moment and it was showing people that there had to be something far better to come along to take care of the sin problem and then because this offering had to continually be offered it was showing the children of israel and you guys got a lot of sin and there's nothing you can ever do to take care of this sin problem but you just continually offer and offer an offer but what about jesus we said it did two things one was it showed the people that that none of these things gonna work you're gonna continually do it but it's never going to take away your sins part two what about jesus i want you to hold your finger there and i want you to turn to hebrews chapter 7 while i throw that in the floor and i want us to see what the bible says about jesus and i want you to think what we just read in leviticus chapter six let's go to hebrews chapter seven and we're going to begin in verse 22. i said we would do it someday and lord willing we will talk about how jesus is a priest forever after the order of melchizedek and he spends the first 21 verses dealing with that in verse 22 he says by so much was jesus made a surety of a better testament all of these things throughout the book of hebrews are showing the new law on the old law running parallel and the new law so much better so much better jesus has been made a surety of a better testament he's better than that old system of of offering offerings continually upon the altar verse 23 and they truly were many priests think back to leviticus 6 because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death but this man because he continueth forever hath an unchangeable priesthood now remember what leviticus 6 13 says the fire on the altar of what happened never went out it never stopped in hebrews chapter 7 verse 24 jesus continues forever wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come to god by him seeing that he ever liveth to make intercession for them in leviticus 6 those priests would go every morning every night and they would continue to kill animals and spill their blood on the altar and burn that sacrifice but it never took away the sins but in hebrews chapter 7 it says you live under a new law now and jesus lives forever he is always going to be the priest and he ever liveth to make intercession for us therefore our sins today can be forgiven by one sacrifice even though those people leviticus 6 would continually make it over and over and over again it was never good enough but this sacrifice was good enough and this sacrifice is continuing to go even a couple thousand years after hebrews 7 was written it is a sacrifice that will carry us through through the end of time verse 26 for such an high priest became us who is holy harmless undefiled separate from sinners and made higher than the heavens all of those animal sacrifices they had to be what they had to be without spot and they had to be without blemish they had to be a just what you would say a perfect sacrifice but nothing could be perfect except jesus and this was the absolute perfect sacrifice verse 27 who needeth not daily go back to leviticus 6. they did it daily as those high priests who offer up sacrifice first for his own sins and then for the peoples for this he did once speaking of christ he offered himself once he says for the law maketh men high priests which have infirmities but the word of the oath which was since the law maketh the son who has consecrated forevermore so when you're reading through leviticus and you're reading about all of these sacrifices what god is wanting us to see is he's wanting us to see jesus and he's wanting us to see how much better he is than all of that those people continued to do that to strive to be reconciled to god but they can never be but you and i can be reconciled and that brings us to leviticus chapter 16 to that day of atonement that would be the the most important day of the year to these people that would be the day that those sins would be rolled forward for a year and went on the day of atonement we're going to read about two goats and i don't know who made the picture i found it on google but i like the picture and jesus is going to be typified in those two goats and you said ah how do you do that well we're going to see leviticus chapter 16. every day those priests had to make burnt offerings but this only happened once a year because again it was a special day leviticus 16. sorry i went back to the king james because i like my old bible a lot better i can i know where things are i'll get me a new king james one of these days that i like it says then the lord spake unto moses after the death of the two sons of aaron they died after they offered a strange fire when they offered before the lord and died and the lord said unto moses speak unto aaron thy brother that he come not at all times into the holy place within the veil before the mercy seat which is upon the ark that he die not for i will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat now stop a minute what god is is telling moses here's hey the high priest he can't just come before me anytime he wants to if he walks in when he's not supposed to walk in he's going to die and he needs to learn that lesson his two sons have already died by doing what i told them not to do and make sure aaron understands the lesson he says verse 3 though shall aaron come into the holy place with a young bullock for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering and he shall put on the holy land and coat and he shall have the linen britches upon his flesh and he shall be girded with a linen girdle and with a linen headdress shall he be attired these are holy garments therefore shall he wash his flesh and water and so put them on and he shall take of the congregation of the children of israel two kids of the goats for a sin offering and one ram for a burnt offering and i want you to notice something in verse 5 he says i want him to get two kids of the goats for a offering i want you to understand god doesn't put anything there by mistake it's not two different offerings these two goats was one offering one offering that was going to be representative of jesus christ and we're going to see that in just a moment verse 6 and aaron shall offer his bullock of the sin offering which is for himself and make an atonement for himself and for his house what does atonement mean you may know i've often heard it said that atonement means to make you and god at one and he said you could take that out of the word atonement there was a separation between man and god because of sin and atonement bridge that gap but during this time period it'll only bridge it for a short period of time because it could never take away sins but yet they continually do this year after year verse 7 and he shall take the two goats and present them before the lord at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation and aaron shall cast lots on the two goats one lot for the lord and the other lot for the scapegoat and aaron shall bring the gold on which the lord's lot fell and offer him for a sin offering but the gold on which the lot fail to be the scapegoat shall be presented alive before the lord to make an atonement with him and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness you know when we read that if we don't really dig in to try to figure out what it means it kind of sounds weird doesn't it aaron you bring these goats in here and you kill one of them and then you let one of them go and you think what in the world and i told you guys leviticus is kind of out there if you don't really stop and try to dig in and figure out what it's talking about you've got one goat for the lord and you've got one that's called a scapegoat but we're going to learn what all this means verse 11 and aaron shall bring the bullock of the sin offering which is for himself and shall make an atonement for himself and for his house and shall kill the bullock of the sin offering which is for himself and he shall take a sensor full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before the lord and his hands full of sweet incense beating small and bring it within the veil and he shall put the incense upon the fire before the lord that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is upon the testimony that he die not and he shall take of the blood of the bullock and sprinkle it with his finger upon the mercy seat eastward and before the mercy seat shall he sprinkle the blood with his fingers seven times then shall he kill the goat of the sin offering that is for the people and bring his blood within the veil and do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bullock and sprinkle it upon the mercy seat and before the mercy seat and he shall make atonement for the holy place because the uncleanness of the children of israel and because of their transgressions and all their sins so shall he do for the tabernacle of the congregation that remaineth among them in the midst of their uncleanness and there shall be no man in the tabernacle of the congregation when he going in when he go within to make an atonement in the holy place until he come out and it made an atonement for himself and for his household and for all the congregation of israel and he shall go out until the altar that is before the lord to make an atonement for it and he shall take the blood of the bullock and the blood of the goat and put it upon the horns of the altar round about and he shall sprinkle of the blood upon it with his finger seven times and cleanse it and hallow it from the uncleanness of the children of israel and when he hath made an end to reconciling the holy place and the tabernacle of the congregation and the altar he shall bring the live goat and aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of israel and all their transgressions in all their sins putting them upon the head of the goat and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness and the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities into a land not inhabited and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness and you say why in the world would he have to do all of those things i want you to think about jesus and i want you to think about the two parts of jesus jesus had a divine side and a human side right jesus was god man now i don't understand that neither do you because we that's beyond our comprehension but he was 100 percent man he was 100 human the goat that was killed for the sin offering would be representative of jesus christ giving his life giving his life for his people and you said well that part simple but what about the scapegoat well that would be the divine side of jesus and what that would represent is what jesus does with our sins you see these people they didn't fully enjoy this because the blood of jesus had not been shed and they could only see it you know way out in the future but aaron would take this goat and he would confess all the sins of the children of israel and he would put away that goat but i want us to see what the bible says god does with our sins the bible tells us in psalm 103 verse 12 as far as the east is from the west that's how far god removes our sins i want somebody to tell me how far is the east from the west anybody got a how many miles you don't know do you about eight thousand miles it just continues to go doesn't it as far as the east and from the west as far as you can fathom that's how far god takes away your sins you see aaron would would put those sins upon this goat and we confess them over and they would take it out into the wilderness but but that's not gone but what god is telling us what jesus did for us by giving his life upon the cross in fleshly form is he takes our sins just like that scapegoat and he removes them the bible says in isaiah 1 verse 18 though your sins be a scarlet they shall be white as snow though they be red like crimson they shall be as wool anybody ever ever seen something that was that was crimson red and and all of a sudden it turns white that doesn't happen for us does it but the bible says that that's what jesus does with her sins the bible says that in isaiah 38 17 god cast our sins behind his back what can you see behind you what can you see directly behind you what does that tell me because of the sacrifice of jesus god takes our sins and he puts him on the head of that proverbial scapegoat and puts him behind his back and he doesn't see him anymore the bible tells me that god puts a thick cloud between him and our sin he puts something that blocks it and what that cloud is is the blood of jesus the bible tells me that god cast their sins into the depths of the sea it's been told that the ocean is seven miles deep in the deepest part if you threw a rock in that seven mile deep part of the ocean are you ever going to find it no you see hebrews 10 verse 17 the bible says their sins and iniquities i will remember no more in leviticus chapter 16 on the day of atonement god only let go of those sins for how long one year right one year and he remembered him again but the writer of hebrew says you guys need to study this and understand those people had to do all of these things and sprinkle all that blood and touch it and all these different things you don't have to do that now because you've got something so much better you've got the perfect sinless son of god the lamb that gave his life for the sins of the world john 1 verse 29 and he takes away your sins forever and that is a beautiful picture when i go back and i study and i look at all of these things as you read through leviticus and and you get and i just picked out one verse the bible tells the people there don't be like everybody else don't be like the people of egypt that you left that you came out of don't be like those people you're going into the land of canaan don't be like those people you've got to be different you've got to be different and everything that the children of israel did was different they had to marry different they had to to eat different in leviticus chapter 11 you can go through and you read about all of those things about what they were allowed to eat and not allowed to eat and you say what in the world did it matter god wanted his people to be different from everybody else and that's why all these regulations are in here do you realize that that typifies what god wants his church to be today we're to be without spotting without blemish we're to be a holy people we're to be different from everybody else in the world and brethren i think sometimes that people think well the church is just hard you know we preach about all of these things and and we can't drink and dance and dress like brethren if we look just like the world then we're of the world if we act just like the world we're of the world god wanted his people in the book of leviticus and if you don't believe me go home and read it he wanted to be different from everybody else and i'm going to tell you something it's not any different today and all of that was in there for a specific purpose to teach us today that god wants us to be different he wants us to be different be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers second corinthians 6 14 that's not where we belong not in the world we're called out of the world we're to be different we're to be different numbers chapter 16 i'll rush through it for time sake numbers chapter 16 you've got a man by the name of cora and cora didn't like moses and aaron taking so much responsibility upon themselves so cora staged a rebellion and the rebellion consisted of if he wanted to be put in charge and and god had this whole system put in place each man get fired and censor and stand before the lord and the lord is going to choose who's in authority and all of those things were there to typify to us that god chooses today who's in authority god is the reason that we have elderships today and as christians we don't buck authority we're to oh we're to recognize authority we're to respect authority also in numbers chapter 16 we've got a picture of jesus at the end of chapter 16 for time's sake god is angry and god wants to destroy the people and god tells moses verse 44 and 45 he says get you up from among the congregation he says i'm going to consume them i'm going to consume them i'm sick of fooling with them and and i just want to take them out moses said to aaron take the censer and put fire there in from off the altar and put incense on it and go quickly into the congregation and make an atonement for them for there is wrath going out from the lord the plague has begun god is angry and god wants to consume the people and moses tells aaron go stand between god and the people verse 48 and that's what he did he stood between the dead and the living and the plague was stayed you realize that is a beautiful picture of christ god almighty hates sin and you and i are a sinful people and jesus christ is what stands between us and an angry angry god and the plague has stayed because jesus christ is willing to stand between us and god and offer his blood one more my time is up numbers chapter 21 probably we're all familiar with it the people were complaining so god sends fiery serpents among the people and when those fiery serpents would bite the people what would happen they would die they would die god tells moses he says make you a brazen serpent and he says i want you to put it on a pole and i want you to put it right out there in the middle of the congregation of the people and when they look at that serpent they'll live they'll live they'll be healed jesus said in john chapter 3 verse 14 just as the serpent was lifted up in the wilderness the son of man is going to be the same now i want you to think about that just for a second god says i want you to take a snake and he says i want you to put it on a pole and the word pole there means signal pole and it would be similar to a cross and god says i want you to put a snake and put it on the cross is there any reason jesus said that's going to be a symbol of me not that he's a snake but he's overcome the snake the snake is where all the sin started all the way back in genesis chapter three and god can put the snake on the pole god can put the snake there god's gonna win jesus is gonna win he always was he always will those people that that believed god and did what he said in numbers chapter 21 were healed the people that believe god today and do what he says are healed in the same way because jesus was lifted up and put on a pole hopefully tonight something we talked about has been a benefit to you i've got more but we'll get to that next time thank you foreign good evening we'll give everybody just a minute looks like there's still a couple classes coming in right now i want to thank everybody for being here tonight for our midweek bible study before our devotional thoughtless scene together number 532 praise him praise him 532 will sing the first and last verses him praise him jesus [Music] is [Music] is [Music] [Music] [Music] praise him [Music] [Music] jesus [Music] [Music] is [Music] praise him praise him [Music] our song of encouragement in just a moment be number 179 god is calling the prodigal i read through different divoles on a pretty regular basis trying to get ideas for lessons and to come across one other day that i want to share with you that i think kind of fits us pretty good this is one from dave ramsey he says one day i was spending time with a really successful guy i mean this guy was a billionaire over lunch i asked him a question i've asked many wealthy folks what can i do today that will get me closer to where you are financially and in business now this was a godly man who had been walking with the lord for a long time so his first answer wasn't really a surprise he said give generously almost every wealthy person i've ever talked to has emphasized generosity and giving is already one of my favorite things to do so that was pretty much a given his second suggestion was to read a book that he guaranteed would change my life i'm a huge reader so i was really excited about this idea i had a pen to the paper ready to write down the name of this transformational book dave have you ever read the tortoise and the hair you ask huh a fairy tale what's that got to do with wells seeing the weird look on my face my friend said dave we live in a world full of rabbits everybody is running around hopping here and there without paying attention to where they're going if you want to succeed you've got to stay focused and move slow and steady says then he leaned in and hit me with the clincher every time i read that book the tortoise wins every time and when i read that i got to thinking about my life and he goes on to make it talk about making money but i'm not worried about that but i got to thinking about my life and and i'm a lot like that you know i'll decide in my life that i'm going to go on a diet and i want to lose a few pounds so what i do is i go full force i don't drink any cokes i don't eat any sugar i cut out everything that i like and you know what happens in about a week i'm sick of it and i can't do that anymore and i used to tell my wife i'm want to start the exercise and i'm going to start running again i haven't done this in several years so i'll go out and i'll run three miles and then i come back in i got shin splints and i can't hardly walk and and i always been full speed ahead and sometimes my christianity's like that sometimes i get set in my mind man i'm going to really focus i'm going to really do good and and like i said this is one of my flaws i go at it full speed ahead and what happens you hit roadblocks and things don't go your way and then what happens you get down and you want to quit and then you'll maybe come back around a little later on and again it's wide open full speed ahead but you realize christianity is a lot like that book christianity's a lot like the book brother you're not going to you're not going to win the prize of heaven and just burst just wide open all that you can do that's not how it works christianity is described as a race by the apostle paul and it's a race that's going to be won by the person who stays focused and is steady so i want to ask you tonight are you focused and steady because see when you're not and you try to jump in full speed ahead you're going to fall on your face you're going to encounter roadblocks and you're going to get discouraged and you're going to want to throw your hands up and quit and and i want you to think back to that devo every time you read the book the tortoise wins every time you read this book the person that stays steady wins tonight my question is are you focused and steady if you're not do something about it tonight make a change tonight and make that change and decide i'm going to focus and every day i'm going to do the best that i can not in a foot race but the best that i can to live the life that i can live and brethren we will win in the end because the book already tells me the end tonight if we can do something for you if you're not a new testament christian and you believe that jesus is the son of god you're willing to repent and confess his name we'll baptize you tonight tonight if you are discouraged in your walk if you've allowed your focus to waver if you've not had been as steady as you would like to be if you've got sin in your life tonight please don't leave her tonight make it right while together we stand while we sing though you wonder
