$80 on Sriracha - Huy Fong vs. 12 Alternative Brands

facing the annual Sriracha shortage Panic no more we've taste tested 12 contenders that might help us survive this shortage all right first up three mountains Brand This one is yellow Sriracha chili sauce so you can purchase this one at different retailers but on Amazon it is 6.40 they say this is a citrusy vinegary sauce and it has a level two out of three spicy oh dude I could smell the fumes already oh it looks like mustard it smells a little bit spicy it smells a little bit sweet it's very very sweet it's not very spicy I don't taste any spice at all yeah we read some of the critical reviews and most people ended up saying that it was a little bit too sweet for their liking especially compared to the original We Fong one one person said that they tasted like a moldy or a wet basement flavor it is very watery if you like sweet Sriracha sweeter side and the more affordable side but is it a alternative to the Hue Fong no like I wouldn't want to put this in my fall it'll just make it too sweet yeah definitely not next one comes in the jar glass jar a srira jaw panich it's a strong heart yeah this one we got really lucky we found this at our local grocery outlet for two dollars but if you want to buy it on Amazon it's 13.49 oh it's a lot more liquidy smells spicy it's sweet not spicy strong hot not so strong yeah it kind of tastes like a slightly spicy ketchup okay some of it is spicy some people said that it does have kind of like an authentic Thai Flavor and we agree I think this feels authentically Thai I wouldn't use vinegary as a description for this one so if you do like ones on a little bit more the spicy side and it is closer to an alternative then definitely check that one out but maybe don't buy it on Amazon look at your local stores first and you might be able to find it if you're lucky next there's a brand that we're very familiar with is the Lee kumki Sriracha chili sauce and our favorite one because we love chili oil is the chu Chow chili oil and so we're expecting this one to be good we trust this brand a lot this one is a little bit cheaper our local Ralph's had it and it was 5.49 a little bit on the cheaper side especially but if you want to buy this online we found it at Walmart 15.76 ways deep yeah shake well before use oh this is much thicker oh this consistency is the same it's the same consistency the color looks the smooth grainy is it a contender for replacement it's close and it has a weird aftertaste it does it's a little bit like that a little bit Yeah so for sure if you don't like the grainy flavor if you like more of like a smoother texture you might be disappointed with this one but it does have some good spice it is more affordable if you're able to find it in your local market some people did say that there was a fish sauce type of taste to it but I don't see that in the ingredients you know I think it could use a little bit like a tad bit more vinegar but overall it's almost there all right we have a Trader Joe Sriracha the price for this one you can get a Trader Joe's for 3.99 or you can buy it for 11.99 on Amazon oh the consistency looks a little bit in between some of the other ones it's a little bit more liquidy compared to Hue Fong but it is pretty thick it smells like fish sauce very mild I don't taste any spice at all I taste fish sauce yeah it just doesn't taste that spicy it tastes very mild one of the other ones that tastes kind of ketchupy kind of sugar I could imagine this one being used in like cooking like if you use ketchup in like your spaghetti or something like that oh yeah you know that type of thing but for us it needs to be a little bit more of a cake not a contender for a replacement next once again we found this one at our local Ralphs this is the Kroger Brand version of the Sriracha chili sauce so there isn't like a whole lot of stuff online that you can find out about this but this one was only three dollars and nineteen cents in the store so I believe this was our cheapest one it's cheap the color looks very similar too it smells a little bit spicy but it also smells a little bit sweet oh man consistency is thick I this one they're very similar wow I think this one is the Shockers but the only difference is that the Hui Fong has more of a punch this one is our closest one so far it's like maybe half a level down compared to Hui Fong and spice yeah but it makes up for it and it's relatively cheap price yes and the three dollar range that's our biggest surprise so far yes good job Kroger next is another familiar brand Kikkoman so this one comes in the little Heinz style bottle like squeeze bottle and it's very dark it's very very dark yeah the color compared it's dark yeah you can get this one on Amazon for nine dollars and two cents so it's a little bit more expensive especially for a smaller type of bottle it kind of looks like barbecue sauce oh this one tastes a lot more saltier yes the spice comes at the end it's close it's spicy it's very spicy I like it I think this is one of the contenders I think this is my favorite one so far I'm really starting to feel it because I took a bigger scoop yeah some people said that it was too vinegary but I can see why but yeah definitely I feel like vinegar and chili are like best bring out the best each other it's not like one of those hot sauce challenge level it's definitely a step below that but it does have a pretty big kick pretty good pretty good guy Valley Sky Valley which we bought at our local Walmart and we got it for 5.22 it looks a little bit lighter and it looks a little bit more liquidy not thick at all or you can buy it on Amazon for 11.15 so it's a little bit pricey actually oh yeah you're gonna chew it it kind of tastes like that Mexican candy yes Tamarind this one would be fun to eat by yourself just like it needs vinegar it's not spicy like it's hot spicy a little bit Yeah but not really there not a replacement I do like it though you like it but it's not a replacement so Tabasco also made a Sriracha it's a cute little bottle they have bigger sizes but we just got a little one just in case we didn't really like it it has a two Flames out of five the consistency I can see is pretty thick already yeah so for the price we also got this one at Walmart for 3.74 cents or you can buy it on Amazon for 11.85 very sweet and very degree both of those very light in flavor mix very vinegary because it is Tabasco yeah there's not a lot of kick in this no kick at all not comparable I said that it looked grainy but it wasn't that great it's not as smooth compared to POI Fong Sriracha it's on the not spicy side yeah it's on a little bit more of the smoother side for a smaller bottle for three dollars and 74 cents not too bad next we have yellow bird this one is blue agave so for sure this one is probably going to be a little bit different than the rust it says that it's mellow hot shouldn't expect it to be very spicy or a lot of kick in it we also got this one at Walmart for 3.74 cents or you can buy it on Amazon for 13 so it's a little bit pricey for sure so try to find it at your local Walmart if you're interested in trying this one out it's so sweet so Agave it's not even sweet the way that ketchup is it just try to tastes sweet and there's chunks of chili in there that can I can so this one is definitely on the mild side if you do like the more mild it's very mild and you feel like definitely Fung one is like too spicy this one would be perfect for you it's okay but I would never ever eat this ever again because it's too sweet not a contender for a direct replacement no next one is both from Underwood Farms back in 2016 they had a split Queen Hui Fung who was getting their chilies from Underwood ranches so a lot of people online said that that's when the the change in The Taste started happening and we kind of noticed that we bought a lot less starting around that time because we also moved over to Chile in order to capture that old flavor and to have that Nostalgia Underwood ranches might be your best bet it is a little bit pricey so that you can buy three pack for 27 on their site but you can also buy a three pack on Amazon for 44 which is very very pricey so this first one is the regular Sriracha they Pride themselves on the peppers that they use so this one's very exciting to try out we expect this to be a little bit more spicy we'll see the color looks very similar to the Hue Fung oh uh oh oh my God Peter just squeezed all the hot sauce on his pants it's like ketchup it is yeah so make sure you aim correctly it doesn't have much vinegar or garlic or a cake I taste the chili there's no garlic and not much vinegar it proves my point the vinegar and chili are best friends and maybe garlic could be their second best friend it's kind of unremarkable the next one is also from the same company but this one's redder and it has a dragon yeah this one says premium on it within the box that they shifted in there's a little apology note saying that this is not the top that they had planned to have for this one so the next batch they'll have a regular top but really they should have just apologized for using this racist ass font innocent racist mistake we're only half joking about that so if there's a very complicated and long history about this Chop Suey fun we'll link a video in the description that you can watch and learn a little bit more about it but I think it's time to retire this font and if you don't know what font we're talking about you know so this premium chili hot sauce comes from Camarillo in California oh it smells very similar the color is very different it's a lot more Rich it's very red like a very vibrant red right and take a little while I ordered this two weeks ago and then it finally came okay I could see why they're apologizing because it's kind of hard yeah I don't know man what the I'm offended you send me you've been my family you stay strange it tastes like they Blended water and chili no depth there is a cake because of chili yeah we were expecting this to taste a lot closer to if we found if not better because that's what a lot of the reviews said it's a little flat it even those in the ingredients I don't taste nothing for us this ain't it but if you really like the consistency it's the same thickness yeah same thickness it is a little bit grainier the spice is there for sure because I still feel it so there are some high points for that so Peter found this Humble House chili on Amazon and the description says that it's Sriracha crossed with enchilada sauce which is really interesting but nowhere on this bottle doesn't say Sriracha but we're gonna try it anyways it says it's a aged Tangy garlic sauce not hot not sorry oh so it's not hot yeah they have other versions too this is the closest one to sriracha and it's 9.99 it's quite sweet I could see it being in enchilada sauce because it's quite light in flavor it's sweet but also the consistency is also watery yeah it's in the ballpark of sriracha but like on the very outside part of it more of like clay Fong's like acquaintance Mexican friend I think it's good I think the Tangy part stands out I don't taste any garlic no in it it's a hot sauce for sure just not a Sriracha hot sauce if you're looking for a enchilada sauce you might be interested in using this Humble House not a contender for sure so we have three contenders for what could be a replacement for Hue fan Sriracha this one is from Thailand it's the sriracha panich and then we also have the Kroger the big surprise right here yeah very good and also Kikkoman Sriracha very cute little bottle these three could be distant cousins of hue Fong and for sure we
