the owner of the world famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop is always ready to walk away from a deal if it's not right because he avoids placing any emotional attachment to an item now this obviously doesn't always make him friends and in today's video we will look at eight times that Rick pissed off customers [Music] when a man named Joe came into the pawn shop to sell what he claimed to be the original Batphone that was in Bruce Wayne's desk in the Batman series that ran on ABC between 1966 in 1968 the phone had also been signed by actors Adam West who played Bruce Wayne aka Batman and Burt Ward who played Robin in the series so Jill was hoping to get around five hundred dollars for it saying that for anything less than that he would just keep it for himself he explained that it was an actual working phone that was sold to him as Batman's phone from the set and that he had the actors sign when he saw them unfortunately he didn't have any proof that it was an actual prop from the set so Rick decided to call in an expert Steve grad confirmed that the signatures were real but also said that there was some signature removal above Adams was signature which had perhaps been a personalization while the customer denied that he had removed anything Brad insisted that it was visible and affected the items value which he therefore estimated to be around $200 based on that Rick made an offer of 100 while seller Joe said the lowest he would go was 300 but with Rick unwilling to go any higher than a hundred bucks the two didn't make a deal after leaving the shop Joe then told the camera team that he thought the pawnshop owners low offer was an absolute insult that made him feel like he was being robbed was an absolute insult I really thought I was being robbed if Batman was there they would have been pow [Music] in season two a woman named Jenny came to the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop to pawn an ivory tusk with had carvings that she had bought in Taipei a few years earlier she had been told that something like that was worth somewhere between a thousand and fifteen hundred bucks but unfortunately Ric immediately saw that what the woman believed to be ivory was actually just bone he explained how many items like that were made for the tourist trade in Asia where several pieces of bone would be shaped around a wooden piece in order to make it look like an ivory tusk the pawnshop owner also pointed out that ivory would be a lot heavier and that unlike bone it wouldn't be porous he even found one spot where the cracks between the bone pieces revealed the wood underneath while Rick tried to console her by telling her that stuff like this happens to many people who traveled overseas he also made it pretty clear that he couldn't offer her anything even close to what she had been hoping for saying he was generally not really interested in buying ivory anymore because he didn't like the process of getting it or the politics of it Rick's best offer was only a hundred bucks seeing as this wasn't even real owner Jenny was obviously far from happy to hear that because not only she had paid a lot of money for the item that she had believed to be ivory for years but she also wouldn't be able to get the money that she really needed that day anything connected to the legendary Titanic is pretty popular which is why Fredrick believed that the 1906 half-dollar that had belonged to Titanic victim John W Gill was worth more than a hundred grand based on the fact that a one dollar bill that came off of a survivor of the Titanic had sold for 125,000 dollars at an auction he figured that his item would be worth around the same especially since the story of the Titanic is not really about its survivors but rather about the victims Rick's expert David confirmed that collectors really line up for that kind of thing but he also pointed out that this coin had sailed in 2011 for about three thousand eight hundred and fifty dollars and then again in 2014 for about twenty-one thousand and that a coin like this would really have to reach its ultimate audience where you can justify charging much more than that he therefore put it somewhere in the ballpark of twenty-one K which Frederic didn't really like to hear saying he understood how David had come up with this number but that the auctions had obviously missed its audience considering that he had paid seventy five thousand dollars for the coin he was not willing to go below that while Rick was not ready to go above ten thousands in offered that the shocked owner could barely even take seriously as he left the shop without having made the sale quite frankly this seems to be so far below what other people value that it's hard for me to take it seriously diehard fans of all stars will remember the time when a guy came to the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in the second season to sell a Perseus and Pegasus statue from 1888 by French sculptor and me Lucca calls for about six thousand dollars Rick pointed out that there were a few cracks that wouldn't be there if it was an original casting and that this was probably a recast from 40 or 50 years earlier that was made long after the cult had died he even found a coining that said made in USA on the statue which was more than enough proof for Rigg that it wasn't an original however the customer simply said that he didn't believe him and didn't care what Rick said he stated that what she seen what she can prove is two different stories and of course got pretty angry before the old man eventually stepped in and explained that they don't buy stuff when they're not sure about it and that the statue wasn't for them the guy eventually walked out of the shop with a statue saying that it was Rick's loss and that his [Music] in the episode Rick the Emperor a customer offered the pawnshop owner a genuine silver coin from the time of Julius Caesar struck within 30 days prior to Caesar's assassination since the owner believed the coin to be a key piece to any historical coin collection he was hoping to sell it for about forty four hundred dollars and made it clear that he wouldn't take a lowball offer because he absolutely loved it Rick was obviously interested in this 2,000 year old coin with Caesars face on it but since he didn't really know whether the sellers asking price was realistic he decided to call him his coin expert David the expert confirmed that this was the real deal saying the strike was perfect the style correct and everything exactly right making it perfectly genuine he added that coins like this one when in fantastic condition have sold up for $200,000 at auction but he also explained that the coin showed a good amount of wear so based on what he had seen in auctions in Europe and the United States he would estimate its value to be somewhere in the neighborhood of $1,500 the owner was very shocked to hear that pointing to the coins general historical Valley and now most angrily asking the expert where one would even get a coin like that for such a low price while David admitted that these things are often undervalued and it was probably the best to hold on to it because it was difficult to replace in a collection Rick decided to trust David's opinion and offered a thousand bucks that could actually appreciate it's true this prompted his customer to laugh out loud thinking that the pawnbroker was joking because this was not a legitimate offer he accused Rick of using his position to buy something below its market value although the seller finally offered to accept 3,500 Rick was unwilling to go higher than one grant which the upset coin owner called an absolutely ridiculous offer [Music] Hollywood memorabilia is pretty popular so Kevin was convinced that he should be able to get about fifty thousand dollars for a handwritten love letter from Judy Garland to Frank Sinatra we've got a bunch of positives here we know the inks live the story is definitely jive about her and Sinatra especially from that period so it's in her hand yeah unquestionably real no doubt about it although the letter didn't have any x-rated content you could still tell that the two had an intimate relationship going on despite Garland being married at the time Ric thought the asking price was a little too high and decided to get an expert's opinion before making an offer while Steve grad confirmed the letters authenticity he said Garland's Valli had been kept down by the massive amount of stuff you can find connected to her considering that this was pretty spectacular in terms of Hollywood relationships he still put the value at about three to three and a half thousand because the content was pretty important as well while Kevin started shaking his head Rick decided to trust his expert in offered $1500 just ten percent of what his customer had asked for initially this obviously irritated Kevin who felt like Rick didn't appreciate extraordinary peace but with the pawnshop owner not willing to go any higher Kevin decided to walk away believing the letter would easily sell upwards of ten thousand dollars at the next auction [Music] it seems like coin collectors are some of the hardest customers to please and in season 12 Rick especially upset a man named mark who came into the shop with an 1867 proof shield nickel that he'd had for about 15 years mark had the coin graded and everything and Rick was intrigued by this extremely rare piece that was one of the finest ones of its kind of her graded according to mark only 25 of these nickels had been made and Rick was aware of how special this coin was because it was a proof coin meaning it was a polished blank coin that was put into the minting machine and they had made sure it was a perfect coin Rick also knew that proof coins from the 1800s are very rare and could be worth some serious money mark added that this proof coin was an actual production for about a month before they stopped the production because the corn had stars and bars on it which the North didn't like due to the fact that the Stars and Bars signified the Confederacy based on this coins great condition as well as it's great historical valley the owner was looking to get about $90,000 for it which prompted Rick to call in his experts who said that these coins had brought in a range of prices from about 63,000 to $80,000 the customer was not very happy to hear that saying he had a different opinion of the coins value while he eventually came down to 80,000 however Rick did not want to go about fifty thousand after leaving the shop upsets mark said that you would have to be totally on the desert with no water in order to take risks extremely low offer of 50 grand [Music] anyone who has ever watched Fosters knows that the guys would never sell anything if it isn't 100% real which is why Rick got pretty upset when a customer first questioned whether the diamond in the 1975 Golden State Warriors NBA championship ring was real and then unpacked his own cheap testing device to make sure that it was customer rich explained that he was a collector and Broker of some of the world's finest and most expensive sports memorabilia but his device unfortunately wouldn't test the stone Rick pointed out that he had a really cheap tester that will not test if the diamond is too hot so he reluctantly brought his own obviously not too happy to be doubted like that Rick was unwilling to accept anything below 11,000 for the ring while rich had been looking to spend between 5500 and $7,500 for the ring that he wanted to give to his fiancee being so far apart there was no deal to be done and rich was evidently not just disappointed but also pretty pissed saying he had thought that the pawn shop owner would work with him a little bit but that it had seemed like Rick rather wanted to punch him in the face which to be fair might even be true thank you for checking this video out and
