7.3 Excursion 1 Degree Cold Start

this is probably going to be one of the most challenging cold starts of uh the 73 in the Excursion here a little bit about this vehicle for those who don't know it's a 2001 with a grand total of where are we at 3 21 something, miles yeah [Music] pump nothing on the engine has been touched except for the glow plugs and the valve cover gaskets SL wiring harnesses that go in there okay maybe I lied it's got a glow plug control module and a water pump that was put on it as well but other than that everything in this engine is original so at 321,000 it's got a little wear it's not new the injectors aren't the best the compression isn't what it used to be and we have had had several days where it's been in the single digits here I think it's oh like around 4° or so this morning and we had a high of like 10 I think or 12 and this has been sitting for about 4 or 5 days straight it's not plugged in so it's cold we've got most of the snow cleared up here off the driveway but there's still some sitting around so let's uh let's see how the old 73 does shall we I'm gonna go ahead and cycle the glow plugs a few times make sure all the all the additional loads on the blower motor or the loads on the battery rather such as the blower motor and all that are off good news for this vehicle is it has two brand new Motorcraft batteries that were just installed a few months ago so so we should be we should definitely be good to go as far as batteries go they were replaced under warranty they failed both of them failed a week before the warranty expired so I'm going to set you up right here next to the exhaust there will be some smoke there will be some Knockin there will be an unhappy starter but we'll get it going here hopefully on there we go hey that was better than I thought the three those three glug Cycles worked out pretty well I got to clean the windshield off and get the froster going and everything that was pretty good I was happy here we go she's running [Music] [Music] seat heater still works get the defrosters going yeah ready to go take care of some horses there you go the old 15 years 7 300,000 Mi 73 still starts up just fine takes some coaxing but she gets up she'll wake up eventually may be cold outside but I got the truck started warmed up defroster on seat heater on we are good to go it's a cold one today
