most people just want the glory they don't want to see the work that's what she said the camera is on and then i'm like well damn you know i'm pooping it's time to do fans uh i actually finished the exhaust this time and i don't know a couple other things we're gonna do some more tired deliberations just checking things out now uh i'm torn i don't know what to do but we will figure it out first things first we got to put some fans in this thing original universal fans that used to be on uncle rob that i bought at the speed shop by cooper's house way back when they kept uncle rob cool so they're gonna keep this cool here big tails and everything still there who's gotta figure out a way to stake him to the radiator and of course i picked the car up with the hood clothes so it's dark under here i think uh we're gonna ditch this trim here and do the silver and orange dale stripes with actual vinyl because these things just cover up so much body line on the car they just they take away from its shape and form and it just it looks like painted trim race cars did not have painted trim they got rid of the trim and colored the actual body itself so that's what we're going to do you guys want to hear a funny story so hold on a second here when i was 18 and i got this radiator i was so prideful my big shiny new sweet looking radiator that i went to the hardware store and bought some bug screen and slid it in there so that bugs wouldn't get stuck in it and bend the fins and stuff because this is like a big ass griffin radiator it was like 400 something dollars it's huge this is like the original radiator you guys know they're like that thick and this thing is so big and badass that that fan that wasn't even flush against the radiator kept this thing cool unless i sat with the hood closed and not moving for more than a few minutes on a really really hot day it would get up to like 205. good job oh wow how about that i can't believe i actually got to drive this thing enough to get freaking bugs stuck in it i'm impressed so we only got four of these like actual poke through the radiator clamp kind of things for these fans so i use the four nice ones on the top and we're just kind of using zip ties as the bottom ones and all i'm doing is i'm just poking this through because the head of the zip tie is big enough to not go through the hole of the fan bracket and then i'm just cutting a little nub off the back of another zip tie and going it's going to hold the fan on there and it's going to hold it on there better than better than not other than not being on there at all yeah i stick it in i stick it in sideways so it doesn't force the fins apart so i'm trying that's what she said i would like to be known that i've never done anything like this on the escalade never would consider it but it's the freaking factory self tapper effect when the car is built with self toppers from the factory it's kind of hard for me to like up my game around it i'm just kind of like you know what it no one's gonna notice it it's just it's to par with the rest of the car what we're doing here is some freaking pebble beach level work compared to that i really don't like any of this all this wiring looks terrible there's not a whole lot that could be done about it outside of doing a ton of cleanup work because this factory harness was converted a standalone by a place that kind of sucks and they just they either left it how long it was in the truck in an inconvenient place or they extended something to be so long that you have to bundle it up to get it out of the way somewhere you don't need it like all these injector packs like there's there's so much crud in there it just doesn't need to be there you have to go through cut all that out and change it and stuff but here where the big meat of the wires are they leave it right here so you have to put the ecu roughly where it was in the truck relative to the engine they couldn't have extended this so you could put it under the dash or something that would make too much sense logan's going to wiring school so when we build uncle george i can be like here can you wire up the the wood and then you can wire up the hubble blue did you you pinch it in the top part like sideways like this yeah and you you can set this then you need to determine how much it strips off so you can like push it up against that yellow thing yeah these little uh shop light thing is has these pigtails that come off here and we need to extend it so we can use one plug instead of two for the other bench there rerouted the ground through thicker wire to the old ground spot where it already was under the radiator and stuff and i found that there was a second fan lead bundled up and stuffed out of the way over there so i unbundled it and i'm not gonna leave it like this this is just a bench test to see if i turn the key if it comes on because i don't know if the ecu is set to command both fan leads to turn on when it turns the one on that had been functioning before because it only had one fan i don't know how the what the parameters in the computer are so we're just gonna leave that like that for a second turn the key and see if it does anything well neither fan came on so i don't know what to make of that i think we're just going to wire it up and hope for the best what i did figure out is that the heat exchanger pump does work because it primes when the fuel pump primes so the relay for the heat exchanger pump is probably wired to trigger off of the fuel pump running so if the fuel pump is on the heat exchanger pump is on once we get these fans wired up we're going to put the tail lights back together and we'll get to work on the exhaust get the exhaust tacked up i think aaron from the garage shop was going to stop by later today hopefully and advise on what to do about this fender so reconnecting the old tail light bulb sockets that i cut out to do the leds that melted ultimate sadness by the way i actually did post a video about that several months after it happened due to uh requests from you guys in the comments when i mentioned that i filmed that whole debacle and never posted it because it made me mad i was like you know what i'll post it so it's on there it's on there off playlist you can still see where it melted i still don't know why that happened uh we still don't know why the turn signals don't work change the flasher and i just tested it it didn't work but i'm hoping that's because the taillights loop was not completed but that's a problem to figure out once we have functional taillights so i'm gonna go in there and turn it on this is like some deja vu right here yes yeah speaking of wires exploding uh we have to go back to the par store and get more heat shrink connectors because we used all of them doing that i told logan exactly how to wire it so i thought she did exactly what i said and we plugged it in and turned it on it went and melted the wire i don't know but it finally worked long story short we burned up like 18 heat shrink tubes and there's 30 seconds of your life you'll never get back but hey it was like a half an hour of our life that we'll never get back so got the taillights working still no signs of life for the turn signals though so i've been under there on the ground breaking my back um trying to figure that out there's some weird stuff going on there i can't quite figure it out i traced this one switch it had this like terminals like looped into this connector just kind of dangling i'm like what the heck is that why is it like that i don't think something was causing a problem and then after i figured out where it probably plugged into that was like the neutral start switch so that's probably been looped for a really long time because this is a column shift car but uh there was always a console shifter like a floor shifter in it even when i got it so someone did that before me tracing 50 year old wires back there and then up here we got a freaking supercharger from a 2013 ish zl1 camaro and a bunch of zip ties i gotta use tesla figure out if the main turn signal wire under there is even getting power those things being a mofo it br it blinks really slow on this side normal on that side i think part of the turn signal not working was the key has to be on for it to work but i also think the flasher was bad the old flasher was probably bad uh nice i have an led flasher but i want to make these work right with the right bulbs first before you add more new stuff to the mix and figure out that it doesn't work does that sound like sound logic to you honestly i wasn't listening oh i didn't know you were talking to me i thought you were talking to the camera well i was but i thought you were listening no i want to make it work correctly with the normal bulbs before we try putting the led stuff in yeah i think that's a good plan yeah so let's test this and see how it works next day uh current project is tackling the crooked body which i have been avoiding doing for six years ever since it's been crooked um pretty much what we need to do here is from what i've read there are two alignment holes with these little slots in here you see i don't know if you can see that up in there but there's uh there's a hole in the body right there that's supposed to line up with this hole so you take a 5 8 rod and you stick it up in there and that's how you know when the bodies were supposed to be on the frame and there's another one right up here too right there you see that yeah if i can't show you from the light perspective you probably can't see but i can shine a light up in there and see that it is shifted over if i had a 5 8 rod it would not fit in there so i went dumpster diving outside and i found a piece of rod that appears to be 5 8 od and it fits um in the frame hole but not the body hole problem is i need another one of these to do both of them at the same time and be a little bit longer so we can uh like hold it in place easier so let's head on outside to the scrap bin and see if we can find something one of these is longer i must have disturbed a wasp because he wasn't going to leave me alone so uh let's just go to the store and get some stuff um i don't feel like digging like a lot of them over there wasps yeah yeah i noticed so we got what we needed a 5 8 wooden dowel rod plus a bunch of other stiff stuff like you know pegs for the pegboard all kinds of things that you need that you don't need to find and you don't got a a blue koozie that looks like the can but it's actually cherry limeade that's my favorite one but look at this hardware store it's like some backwoods carolina stuff it's actually not too far from where we're at it's got a gas station a hardware store and a full grocery store and i mean not just like a hardware store like it's got some stuff it's like a full ass hardware store and then there's not even a wall it just goes like hardware hardware hardware hardware full ass grocery store this is like no chickens uh god damn it that sounds like rural king anybody know what rural king is i used to go there to get stuff when i lived in pennsylvania but rural king did not have a gas station this place does and they even had vp race field jugs in there too because north carolina people race here everywhere let's get going on this here we got our new fancy piece of wood and i'll show you we'll stick it in the hole here and uh okay yeah see i don't know if you can see but it don't line up dale and then there's another one up here that one don't line up either although it's close i have an idea on how we can pull the body over without putting the car on the ground and like jacking up the body itself we're losing all of the body bolts also side note i think i should keep this as a pointer i feel like uh makes me feel smarter like one of those freaking a-whole college professors that bangs on the board like they know something may have had a couple of those in my day anyway we can take we can loosen all the body mount bolts we can take a ratchet strap hook it back here and then hook it to somewhere on the body like maybe in here or something something that's on the body itself to pull it over no this is confusing and i don't want to be responsible well if it gets then i'm responsible for it me and me will figure out how to fix it too i got all the body mount bolts loosened up what were you doing in there my oh i pooped nice yeah drop a thumbs up if you pooped too or if you want to poop or if you enjoy pooping sometimes there you go talk about poop in the comments so if anybody clicks on this video and they look through the comments not knowing the context of the video they're gonna be like why are all these comments about poop i think that's funny girl food it happens yes they do i like you it's really awkward yes i do why was it really awkward because it came out and then you're like what are you doing in there and then the camera is on and then i'm like well damn you know i'm pooping i've been there for a long time yep my camera's still on because you only get the reel here you won't find another channel that's as real as this one in the car space probably yeah i got it fixed here to the frame because i use my um douche bag professor stick this is new to the frame and then we have it strapped up here to uh the body and we are going to crank it and it's going to pull the bodies this way on the frame and you are going to stand here with this stick in the hole like so until the stick goes in the hole above the hole all right can you do that okay can you see look look what i'm pointing at here i'm not good at that you are well you just have to hold it here it's better i think is it better i think so it's closer to being able to stick it in oh yeah it's very close now yeah oh it does fit maybe one more click oh there we go baby does it fit clean now yeah it's like jumped in there really easy well it did yeah yeah how about that boom you can see how far off that one is in there i can't see it well they i'm trying to show them yeah yeah that one needs to come sideways a little bit too i'm gonna have to find a place to pull over from the front also desperate times slash non-ideal situations call for questionable measures and that's what we did here i would like to show you something okay you see that it's in the hole this thing here and i hooked it to a seat bolt that is bending there was nowhere else to hook it i tried to loop it around that body mount and pull it through that like around this couldn't get it wouldn't like nowhere to grab onto if i grabbed onto this it would have bent the floor if i grabbed anywhere else it would have torn it up okay all the body bolts are tight the straps are still in the rods still fit through their hole i'm gonna put these back in here with the clamps just because i want to see if when we undo the clips if these don't just fall out anymore like if the body comes back oh that was sketch yeah i didn't like that you shouldn't do that again cool scratch my gas tank already you know i knew that was possible it's just a casualty of war good thing it's under the car and it's gonna get messed up anyway yeah but you haven't even driven yet and you've already [Music] that's the theme of this car that's all it's been doing to me for years and years and years bending you over yeah i haven't even driven it yet and it's freaking [Music] messed up so what else is new this frame bracket's uh i guess not as strong as i thought it was because it's visibly bowed out can you see it yeah compared to this one that's like flat yeah well i might have to take the bfh and bang that back in by the way if you're wondering this shirt we're both wearing is the 1988 picture shirt on the website [Applause] is that good what the sound yeah it's just like these frames are freaking flimsy like if you jack the car up and put jack stands under here sometimes before we did the body mounts uh if you jack the car up and it wasn't on four jack stands you couldn't even open the door because it would flex so much that the door would hit the defender so we scooted the body over a little bit and it's about perfect it might be just a hair more on this side now than that side but you know it's what are you comparing to the side of the tire to the fender the fender has variances it's just it's an old car fired up the old fronius magic wave 230 which is awesome my welding skills don't do it justice well really the weld has not done it justice but we're going to be doing a lot more welding here coming up soon with the uncle george build um i got the other boom tube flattened out got the tack the other day in the last video because i showed you it was a little bit crooked because i tacked it laying on the floor completely which it's not completely flat because of the way the x-pipe is and everything i thought okay i'm gonna change this a little bit so i'm gonna i put the wood under the boom tubes to press them completely flat so that the difference of the height of where the x-pipe lays on the ground doesn't mess with the angle of these so i did that got them tacked back up gonna throw them under the car put all the other pipes in and like wiggle it around and stuff make sure it's all good make some mounts for it tack those pipes figure out where i'm gonna actually weld where i want it to clamp and all that because i kind of want to clamp the intermediate pipes to the x-pipe so i could get another x-pipe identical to that from dr gas and do this setup again but without boom tubes just with pipe to experiment with the sound i want to see back to back nothing else change how much different an x-pipe system sounds just with the correct 80 degree angle x with the right amount of overlap and everything with just straight pipes versus the boom tube design i wonder that because the iroc cars don't have boom tubes and they sound freaking sweet nascar cup cars from talladega daytona or that era had boom tubes and they sound freaking sweet i don't know it'd be interesting to see originally i thought i could just slide the boom tubes off and slide pipes on but the way everything lines out these are so close to the x-pipe that they have to be welded with the x-pipe i can't clamp them in any easily conceivable way so um i would have to get another x with the straight sections probably clamp it there anyway let's get this thing up in the air get the show on the road got the exhaust all up in here pretty much oriented where i think it needs to be poke out wise um pretty sure i'm gonna clamp this but i still marked it with a marker that way i know where its insertion level is to be in the right spot same with up here i put marker on the collector and whatever i'm working on some brackets here logan's been hanging stuff what have you been doing hanging stuff off on the pegboard painting the table top for this workbench side this thing is there he's really coming along think about what it looked like a couple days ago yeah yeah we're really figuring it out little bits at a time probably the last hour messing with the exhaust maybe 30 minutes making these pretty nice i just cut a long piece of bar stock in half to make them bend them down with the break over there and i'm going to put them and go here roughly they're going to be a hole in them and then that hanger that i have wherever well there's still one here everything it'll be like that but over her wherever i deemed the hanger and stud needed to be somewhere along those lines and i'm gonna have to grind down a little flat spot or a notch in this to that don't get pain on my nose well why am i explaining all this to you i'm just gonna do it and show you while i do it how about that the original jeff lutz boom tube mount that i took off was held in by self tappers how about that and that boom tube never fell off and he charged me a lot of money to do that actually it was how much money i paid between having the other shop put the four-speed transmission and then they sent it to jeff flutz to do this exhaust that i wanted to put on and dyno tune it and that was like 2 dollars or something like that i'm like oh my god i'm never gonna have a fast car if i have to keep paying three times as much in labor as i am for parts so after spending like all of the money i had saved throughout the course of all of freaking high school in the span of a week uh i was like you know what i need to make some friends that know how to work on cars so i can learn from them and do this myself because i got two eyes two hands and a brain i can do this too and if i don't figure out how to do it myself i'll never have the faster car than all my friends because they're not gonna figure it out that's how this all started from this but my point with that was being i used self tappers to put mine in too so suck it i didn't film it because i feel greasy putting self tappers in things any time i do it so i'm just not gonna put in the video but i'll tell you about it anyway they're in there it's good and now we got this bracket perfectly positioned here and i have it choked all the way up on the threads because right now i have the boom tube shoved against the frame so i'm gonna do it like that on both sides and then i can move this nut down and then space it down how i want it but it won't be any higher than this i know that so i'm making its max point right here boom got the other side tacked up now uh i can get this thing on the ground take this off and finish weld everything including the the critical angle area uh but i realized i created a bit of a problemo for my cell phone um now that the nuts are on here if i take them off i can't drop this enough to get it out when we're done we get to paint with barbecue and stove paint which is what dr gas told me to use because he said the header paint doesn't cure right because it's stupid it doesn't stick very well he's like uses barbecue grill paint matte black that's what they use so that's what we got we done put in work today hanger brackets are welded they're done it's welded there too that's done pretty sure all the welding that's gonna be done on here is now done because like we talked about before we're gonna use clamps for the intermediate part uh tomorrow if aaron isn't busy we're gonna go over to the garage shop and cut those then we can paint it put on the car and drive it away you know i'm tired of not driving this car we're gonna get it done it's just it's right there it's right there you feel it i'm glad you guys are here you're witnessing the process the work the hard parts stuff that nobody really wants to be there for but you guys are here and you want to be here and i appreciate you that tells me that you have what it takes to do something with yourself because you're fascinated by the work that seed of interest isn't planted in everybody most people just want the glory they don't want to see the work if you want to see the work there's something in you that's not in everybody time to cut stuff i'm going to need your help to hold the other side of it up probably okay that was an experience once they're cut we'll take that and we'll true it up on here but we'll cut the other side first we're gonna have to turn it over make new lines on the other side too so what would be the official procedure for doing this in a nascar garage i don't know what we're doing right now we used to take we used to take weld all around this outer edge and band it keep cracking yeah this is pretty [Music] yeah i'll go in there with a little rat tail and just kind of clean these little edges up right here but we couldn't get into with the grinder this is where they used to crack and see where they're welded right here these seams yeah that's why we used to take a little quarter inch band and weld all the way around them and then we would also tig weld these edges and then it got to the point where we didn't run the tailpipes long enough for him to crack so we just ran them wrong hmm was that that dei yeah they changed tailpipes you know every week he had like a tailpipe of the week you know some something different it was pretty much everywhere a lot of smaller teams i worked at they'd run the same pipes in the same car but it was pretty rare we ran the same pipes twice especially on the speedway cars because there's so much time in between races somebody would come up with something new or different uh there might be some in the back of this truck up here yeah let's check them out see what the real deal looks like see there's old these are all little boom tubes [Applause] uh okay you know what they came from is there any way to identify them no i made a lot of the ones we built at ddi the center piece where the x is it was real big and that had a plate that went up in there and then you'd make the plate bigger or smaller you kind of tune them like that you got a plate that slid in there with a hole you know an oval shaped hole and there's like 10 million of those things did it change the power band or something if you change the size of the hole in there that was an engine question i mean all i did i built a lot of pipes but i never really understood what they were trying to accomplish they just come and say hey build this build that build this build that huh so we're just going to spray bomb the crap out of this and we'll paint the top part first because i don't know that's where i put it down super fascinating i know [Music] well we slid it back in there the exact same way we took it off last time put it up on the lift put the car put the arms on the ground we're going to flop the studs back down and hook it back up but it's all painted now it looks freaking sweet that looks so freaking cool okay so we're about to fire this thing up and pull it outside uh for the first time i like how there's still a t-shirt print on there from the sawdust we're gonna drive the gas station and we're gonna go through a touchless car wash which should be funny [Music] [Music] gotta check transmission fluid level it's gonna have to be low there's no way it's not gonna be low oh yeah we low let's go in and get some more fill it up once we get that good then we will hit the road it looks totally ridiculous with the t-shirt on there there [Music] we're driving it it's like trying to lock up going freaking two miles an hour what is that the converter locking and unlocking because we're going so slow that it doesn't know what to do we have to go to pump three okay now that does mean we're gonna block the diesel pump [Music] well we put 16 gallons in it so that should help uh but it turns out the car wash here has brushes so there ain't no way in hell we're going to take this car through there so the guy inside said he has no of any that are touchless around here they all have brushes which maybe that's a good thing because i'm pretty sure down the road there's one where you can wash it yourself well we could wash it ourselves for free back at the shop oh i know i'm we're just going to go by a couple times just so you can hear what the boom tube sound like under normal throttle i might boost it a little bit but i can't make a pull or anything it's not tuned but um yeah we'll have to figure out to get this thing like on the dyno in tune but you know the transmission temp is 120 degrees cooling temp is 195 both fans are working um all right let's do a couple drive-bys and call it a night [Music] it smells good [Music] i think he wants people [Music] um do it again [Music] how's it sound it sounds good this thing has to sit higher oh the car does yes i think the car needs to sit higher it'll look a lot better don't what it'll look a lot better i don't give a about sitting low [Music] i don't have hand we actually drove it back [Music] what's uh it's starting to get a little warm said 213 215. maybe these fans aren't enough for maybe they need a shroud i don't know everything is still here in one piece good game well i say that was a successful test now we can figure out about maybe getting some better fans in there and getting this thing tuned well if you think that was cool and you made it this far i sure hope you're subscribed by now because you're going to want to see that thing when it's actually able to make noise and do cool stuff if you want to see the shirts for wearing you can find those at stapletonautoworks.com along with the hat but we have these right now we have uncle rob shirts shop dog this is the back of the shirt i'm wearing right now the 1988-ish dealer and heart crew tribute shirt elvis shirt that's my daily driver truck it's kind of funny everything in up to 6xl so if you're a bigger size don't worry we've got you covered and we also have these flex fit hats the og saw hat in small medium we got more lxl on the way but we got lx lvs and small medium how weird what an order came in as you started doing the shirt plug well someone has the right idea horror horror staplesonautoworks.com check it out see you there every order comes with a handwritten note signed by both of us packed by logan with care it comes from right here it's how we survive we appreciate all of you and if you're excited by this you're cool you're a cool dude i was gonna say well maybe your girl but let's be real here girls don't watch this maybe like four of them and
