For the next three days, I will be living with a local Nepalese family. To start this journey, we had to say goodbye to the beautiful Pokhara Lake and start a one hour drive into the mountains. Little did we know this one hour drive was going to be one of the bumpiest drives we've ever had! - This is one of the wildest roads we've ever been on. Luckily, we had some takeaway apple pie and good company. After we arrived in Barang village, we settled down into a room and it was time to take in the views because this village is located in the most beautiful area with endless mountain views. We were welcomed by the beautiful locals who took us immediately on a walk around town. Here we could help the Oxen ploughing straw, which looked a little bit like this. Like this? - Yes, like that. Yeah! - Oh my God! And we could help to clean up the rice, which was more difficult than I thought it would be. Ooh okay, this works. That's a whole workout. After this, it was time to have our first dinner with the family and go to bed early. In this video, I will be swimming in ice cold glacier water, a goat will poop on me. Oh my God! I will milk a buffalo, look for Nepalese husband, and get involved in many more daily activities. Good morning guys! It is currently 6 a.m. It is super early, but nevertheless, insanely beautiful. we are here at Barang Village community, so so stunning. Today we're gonna do a lot of local activities, live with the local family. I'm really excited and first things first, we're gonna see who's awake already, so let's go. Good morning Amma! - Subha Bihani... Subha Bihani... Good morning. - Good morning... Subha..? - Subha Bihani. Good morning is Subha Bihani according to Amma. And here, we're gonna check on the goats. Look how cute they are and the buffalos. I didn't know that. Hello there, big fella! And of course, the one that cannot miss is right there. Let's have a look at her as well. So this one is a very special lady because from this one they get the buffalo milk and we wanted to milk her, but they said, no, that's not possible because she's a naughty girl. She doesn't let anyone touch her nipples. So we're not gonna milk her today. She's very naughty, look. But I understand you girl. I would also do the same. Are you gonna milk? Oh, he's gonna do it. Oh she drinks it herself! Wow! Right now, I think she's so confused why I'm here. She's just staring at me like... Why is this person here while I'm being milked?! I completely understand it though. Let's see if he can get milk out while I'm here. See how it goes; otherwise, I may have to go. Oh, there we go. Wow! That goes out quickly. Look at how everything comes out so quickly. That's crazy! A lot of milk. And behind there, we have the goats as well. I'll go... The buffalo is too afraid of me and I don't want to disturb their milking process. We're gonna milk a buffalo later. They're milking, but the buffalo is afraid of me. It was staring at me like... Don't come closer! - Don't come closer and don't touch me! - Yeah! Oh, what naughty stuff going on here! - They're pretty active in the morning. - Wow! Active goats here. - Okay... Oh! Oh! Oh! - What! Oh my God! Oh my God, this is so small. Aww..! This is the cutest thing ever! Hi baby. Oh my God! They say if you cuddle with a goat in the morning in Nepal, you will live 10 years longer. - Did you just make it up or it's true? - It's true. - Okay! - See, it's true. Be free. Oh, we have a black one as well. Can I hold it? Oh, yeah, yeah, my color. Okay wait, how do I do it? - Same as before. - And now I hold two goats, so I live 20 years longer. Oh, but this one... - Doesn't like it. Okay! - And it has a smell as well. Oh..! - Maybe it peed on you? - That's smelly. Oh my God! - I'm really happy that I didn't experience. - You want to smell? - No no no no. Drinking water, okay. Freshly boiled. So here's the drinking water for us. That's perfect. Freshly boiled by Amma. Okay! Here you can see the fresh buffalo milk is now being boiled. Wow! So nice. Amazing! He's stirring it right now. Delicious! Probably to get everything out, so it's like good to drink. I love it and this is the hut where he's in. So nice, beautiful. - Beautiful! - Yes, beautiful! And we are off on a little mission with Auntie and Amma. Here we have my big friend again and then we're gonna go down see what they want to show us. I'm really excited. - When we go to the temple, before the temple, everybody has a monkey mind. It means our mind is more scattered. Okay? This is the mind, his holiness 14th Dalai Lama called Monkey Mind. This monkey mind need to be very focused. Once you go inside the temple, okay, then you need to ring a bell. They hear the vibration. Can you hear it? - Wow, yes! - The long vibration. This sound... This vibration sound makes your mind into a meditative form. - Wow! - This is the reason every Hindu and Buddhist temple before you go inside, you ring the bell. - Okay! Beautiful! Here they are washing the attributes of the temple every morning. It's amazing, either by Auntie or Amma. Beautiful! So nice. We are in the right colors. We have red and yellow here, which is definitely beautiful and we learned also a lot. I could also ring the bell and now we don't have monkey mind anymore. He is drinking the buffalo milk. Puri and..? - Doodh. - From the cow, she's not happy about it. Oh my God, this smells so good. We got the bread and it looks absolutely amazing. This is so fresh. This is what I love here that everything is freshly homemade, so nothing wrong is in this food, and I actually cannot wait to dig in. How do you call this bread? - Puri. - Oh, this is the Puri. - Puri. - Puri, okay! Enjoy guys. - I eat it like a Taco. - It's like breakfast typical? - Wow! I love it. - Nice? - This is so nice. - In Nepal, we eat it in the breakfast. - I'm just gonna eat it like a Pizza. We have tea in the morning. - So good. I want to learn how to make this. Wow, this is amazing. This bread is literally perfection and with the beans, it has like the best flavor ever. It's also not too many herbs. It's perfect for breakfast and it's fills as well. I LOVE IT! We're gonna put on the traditional clothes right now, instead of this jacket. We're trying on the clothes right now. Janine is actually succeeding really well. For me, it doesn't fit. It doesn't fit, so they try to look for a bigger size, but yeah, we're gonna see. What is... Oh, wow! Full skirt. - Oh wait! Yeah, good. I hold it? Oh! - Wanna go to the toilet? - I'm okay, I just went to the toilet. - This is how mine fits and Amma is having time of her life. You like it? No? This one? I try okay. Okay, let's try this one. Alright we are closely coming to an end. And how is this one called again? - Patuka. - Patuka. We're now putting on the Patuka and then I'm almost finished. I got this one as well, the tikka? - Yes, it's Tikka. - It's called Tikka as well. I love it. It looks so nice, so colorful and here, right now, I got a pin to hold everything together. And now, we have the necklace as well. We have the last step and that is to have a braid and then put this one. Can I have it? Dory... this one we're putting in the hair. That's the final step that we're doing right now. So the braid is done. Thank you so much Asmita for doing this. - You're welcome. - This is the end result. This is how it looks like. I love the long braid especially. I am so in love with this. I wish my hair would normally be this long. But now I'm fully dressed in Nepali traditional clothing and right now we're gonna walk through the local village. We just found out that there are a lot of Leopards here, which is definitely, for me, super interesting. I had no idea. And this behind us, here is the buffalo huts. So we have the buffaloes here, but also the goats. There's a little hut in the hut where the goats actually have to hide because otherwise they get eaten by the leopards. I will hide here with the goats then tonight, okay? Hello, little one. Okay, you have to hide for Mr. Leopard tonight, okay? You promise me, so you're safe here. Bye! Bye bye bye bye bye. There are even more little goats here while we are walking up and I just communicated with them. But I think they're eating now, but there are so many goats here. It's not too sharp. - It's for the potato. - Oh, for the potato. Look, she's using the sickle to cut the potato. So they have to do this very carefully, otherwise the potato will break. Okay, the little things cannot break. - Yeah, like this one, they cannot break. - Okay! Okay, so these cannot break. Wow! So she has to be super careful. We're walking up a little bit higher and we are with this beautiful ladies here. I cannot get over the fact how stunning the women are! They are absolutely gorgeous. They have also light eyes. I'm in love with the village, the people, the food. Everything! I am like stunned. Oh, so small, wow! So small. Thank you! Wow! That's amazing and here we have this... Namaste! Hello! High-five? No, no high-five. Hello! Look how stunning she is as well and the colors. Wow! I love the red and the pink that she's wearing is beautiful. Wow! - This is so funny. - See we're vibing. And here we are again at a different house. I love the colors. So also all the colors that you see on the houses, they're used from natural material so this is just made of clay. She is absolutely stunning. Hello, Amma! Wow! She's 81 years old. That's such a beautiful age. And the nose piercing, she's absolutely gorgeous. I haven't really shown Wisnu. Look at him with his topi. Can you do a spin around? - Yep! - Wow, and then this as well. Look. This one. - I love this the most. - Yeah! - This one, oh my God! - Wow! Are you a photographer in the wild? - Yes. - Can you do a turn around? Wow, you're full Nepali. - We're now walking through the rice paddies, looking for Sugar Cane. - Sugar Daddy! - Sugar Daddy? Nepali Sugar Daddy! They said if I go up here; it's a really good job up there. So I'm gonna see if I can earn some money. My first job as a Nepalese wife. Could you join me up here? Two is a crowd. - Yeah. I'm a shadow, yeah. I love it. Here they are building a new house, as you can see with all the... I think it's used wood, it's old wood. And they're building the roof here as well. Wow! Stunning stunning. Amma. - Amma. - Okay, we had a quick outfit change and right now it is time to explore and see how they are planting potatoes here, so let's go. - What are we gonna do? - We are going to look for sh!t that we can carry on our back right now. So we are on a hut. - I think he just sh!t. - Oh, yeah, maybe we can grab it. - Mister! - Hello! - Did you just poop? - We're gonna carry your poop. Amma is here. So the sh!t goes probably in there. Poop here. Sorry, she's again telling the story of me this morning. Let's check it again. That's smelly. Oh my God! This is the whole... Wow! That's crazy. That's a lot of poop. Look at how much they sh!t here. That's a lot, okay, and then they put it in there. Wow! And we have to carry that. That's so much. They fill it up entirely. We are now at the spot where the baskets with poop are being made. I love how everyone is enjoying it so much. I don't know what I signed up for, but I'm really curious to feel how it actually feels. Have you ever had a dream that... that you... you had... Okay, so there is something at the back. That's good. Oh... - Over the head. - Over here? - The forehead. - Okay. - Over the head on the top. - Okay! - She's gonna look really... Just a second, you can put it here and your hand will hold it from here. - Okay. - Okay? But I have no idea how to get up. Oh..! - Yeah! - It almost fell on you. - Oh my God! - Can you survive? - I don't know... Can I? I feel like it's a matter of like inches. - Are you stable? - I don't know. - Do not break the neck. Sometimes when it is very hard also your shoulders this stripe over here on the shoulders. Just a second, I have to show you the trail. - I didn't expected this. So there's like so much weight on your head actually. But I think like I can carry this. I think it's okay. I just I'm a little bit afraid with my neck movement. Wow! I didn't expect this. - So heavy! - I think the hardest part was to get up as well. You have to be very strong. - I cannot... - You pretty much exercise, yeah? - I exercise a lot. I feel it. - I can feel this is more than I think 5 kg. - Yeah! It's pretty heavy, but I do feel like that my muscles are strong enough to carry it. - Yeah! - It's just new in my neck. Like it's a new muscle. I never really used it. But we got it. I'm strong enough, but I don't know for how long I can hold it. I think it's actually okay. The weight is divided. It's okay! I think I can handle it. I only don't know how it's gonna go with stairs and everything. Oh my God! - So how far? Is it like five minutes? How many times per day do people actually do this? - 200 times. - 200! - Yeah! Wisnu you go up. - I need balance. Oh my God! Oh my God, okay! - Go up here. - This is heavy. Wow, you have to be so strong and relax to do this. I can only imagine if you do this 200 times a day how strong these people are! I have so much respect for them. This is wild. Like we're only doing it now one time and we're not walking too far. But I see people doing this so many times. It's difficult to watch down as well. Oh, it's here. Okay! - I also cannot... I will just drop it now, okay? - Okay! - Oh my God! - Wow! This is what I have been carrying all this time. Crazy! Look at that. - Oh, my head... That was heavier. It's actually weird that this was so heavy. - It doesn't look like a lot. - It doesn't look like much. No, this is only your pile. This is my pile. - This is the pile of my mother. - What! - Oh my God! - And my father. - They carried this? - Yes, of course! - It's 3 times as much. Wow! We are weak. That only shows how strong the people here are. My respect button is like... through the roof. So much respect for these people. They work so hard. So this is where we just delivered the poop and here you can see they are starting the process of planting the potato. So there is the first line of poop already put down. Here you can see more is coming. So interesting. And then there's gonna be a little layer of ground on top of there and then the potatoes. So the potatoes have direct access to the poop. - Very important and from one potato, you're gonna make it two. - Oh, we have to... - Divide it? - Same as the lady did today. - Yeah, yeah! - Okay, I think I did my first one successfully, but it's a little bit divided. Is that the problem? - That's okay, that's okay. But the main thing is this. - So I didn't break any of these. Like these small things that you can see right here, you cannot break them. So we have to divide both of these in two parts, without breaking it. Oh, but these are big. I'm on my third one now. It's actually really therapeutic work. I love doing this. Like the only thing you have to think about... is to not break any of these small things. I like it. - It's good, yeah? - It's good, yeah! - I love the Hindu Squat. - The Hindu Squat and then the the Nepal potato. It's nice work, right? - Yeah. - Look how much... I love it. One thing is filled. Done! And then this is all the rest that needs to be done and here you see the potatoes. Oh my knee. There, this one, this one here. Amazing! Buffaloes running there on the street. Look at this. There they go and the baby one, aww! But there is someone with them. There's a lady with them. Look at them. That's wild. I love it. The sound... They just know where to go, I think. They know? - Yeah. - How do they know? They do it every day? - No, no, no, but they do it once in a while. - Oh, wow! - They have a good memory. - Also, what I think is really interesting is that they don't eat the buffalo or the cow or whatever here because an animal that provides milk for them they see as a mother and that's why they have a bond with them and they don't eat them. That is so so beautiful. I really love that belief. So basically, they're eating a lot of vegetarian meals here. Maybe once or twice per month they eat meat. So I just put that against the ends and now the last layer is laid on here. So they grab it from here and then put on the ground. So we can now put the potatoes in the second layer already. Oh, so one per thing? Ohh! So push it? - Yeah. - Like that? - Yeah! - Then done. New potatoes can grow. Potato planting is done. I was loving it so much. Right now we are heading over towards the river. Wow, look at this. We are walking towards the waterfall and here we see the oxen coming. 1, 2, 3, 4 and a very strong lady. This is crazy. Wow! Namaste! - Namaste! - Hello! Wow, so strong. This is incredible. Look at her. Strong. Bye! - Bye! And all the way up in her flip flop. Literally the amount of respect I have for these people goes through the roof because what she is carrying is an insane amount of leaves on her back and she's gonna go up here. She is so strong and I'm guessing she's probably around 70 years old. We made it to Kabi's favorite spot to go swimming and he reads always books here. I truly understand why he brought us here because it is really incredible. All the pools, the natural pools, here are crystal clear blue and apparently the water is not too cold. So he's saying to us that we should go in there. So I guess I'm just gonna listen to him, so we're gonna dive in the water now. Wow, swimming in glacier water in Nepal, done! Oh my God! It was insanely cold, but I enjoyed it so so much. I just put on a little bit warm clothes, but it is slowly getting dark, so I need to get back up this mountain quickly and go to my home stay before it gets dark and too cold. So I'm gonna do that right now and I'll see you guys later. And it is later. I had a shower as well, a hot shower actually. We used the bucket here. They heated the water on the stove actually and we got boiling water, so we could mix it with the cold shower water and now we had a decent fresh shower and it is time to go and have dinner and check in on Amma. See what she cooked this night. I'm really excited for it. Oh my God, it's so cold. I didn't expect it to be this cold. My hair is wet. Oh my God! Quickly go inside the house, but first pick up some stranger. See who we have here. Hello! - Dinner is ready. - Dinner is ready? Okay, then I'm gonna come, I follow you. You cook as well? -My mother. - Your mother. - And I make the chutney. You make the chutney? - Yes! - Okay, so then we're gonna see the chutney hopefully... - Dinner is ready? - Yeah, the dinner is ready. - Here we go, okay! Let's all go for dinner. So cold. She's crazy, right? -Yes! - Your turn. We do together. - Wisnu what's going on? - So he told me that I look like.. - No no no, with the jacket. - What are we talking about? - What going on here? - What is this? - This is just like to make it warmer. - This is the Indonesian way. - Okay, you can make it warmer. Can I see your back? - Yeah! - Okay, yeah! - This is like warmer in the front. - Way warmer! - Oh, makes sense. - It makes sense. - Yeah! - Indonesian way! - This is advanced, you know. Western don't think that way. - There is one special idea. Can you zip him? - Oh, yeah, zip it and then you cannot open it later. - What? No, no! How do I open? - We made it back to our rooms Right now it is time to sleep because this was such a good day. Tomorrow morning the alarm goes at 6 a.m. again. I will see you when it is 6 a.m. Good morning! I just woke up. It's time to milk the buffalo. Still not sure if I made for this life, but here we go. The goats just came out of here and we're now following the goats. Here's the buffalo. Oh milk there? Okay! Milking this morning is up here. It's time to go and have a look. It's so early, wow! Hello! - Hello! - Milking is already going. Wow! So early. That's crazy. Look, the buffalo is looking like- Why are you staring at me? Wow, it comes so much out. That's crazy. Every morning this goes on and then you can see the bucket being filled up. Wow! Look at the side eye of the buffalo. Bombastic side eye. This is the weirdest thing. - Why do you make this sound? - Because I have to pull very strong. - It's so weird. Okay, wait, let me try. I'm afraid I'm hurting her. Okay! Faster... Oh my God, this sound. Okay, you have to pull way harder than I expected it to be. But it actually it goes it works. There's coming out. - Just a little bit, yeah? - Yeah! How do you do it? Can I see the difference? Let's see if she does it... Oh, okay, there's like a waterfall coming out. Okay! And when I do it is only a little bit coming out. Okay, here we go. I love how the buffalo keeps looking. Here goes the pro one more time. Look at that. So fast and so much coming out. Crazy! Wow! That's amazing. Well, that was the first morning activity. And I'm not gonna smell it again, but I have poop on my hand again. I just smelled it. - Ohh, Susanne! - Do you wanna hold a goat Wisnu? It's so much fun. - Yeah? I can... I can try. - They smell super fun. - I can. - You can? - The small one you can. I also did it. - The black one, you can take it. - Oh, take it like this? - Yeah! - Yes, like this. You hold it like this. - Really? - Yeah. - It's big, though. - Come, let's do it. Amma still remember from yesterday. - I think, to be honest, the brown one is better. - The brown one, yeah. - You can do like this, Wisnu. - Wisnu, the goat expert. - It's scared, you see? No no no, don't do anything. - The little one is so cute. - Come, come, come. - Bombastic side eye! Bombastic Side Eye! This is the one that peed on me yesterday. I would also run away. - What a shame! - Ohh, look at it! Look at it, look at it. It's going... - Oh my God! Wisnu, the goat whisperer. - He likes you. - That's so cute. - Your feet is so big. - Do you hear what he says about your son? - So big boy! - Ohh, Wisnu this is so cute. - Yeah! - Oh, what's happening here? - Morning party. - No, your brother. Okay? HELP ME! - Oh, there you go. - Oh, you poor thing! - They want another baby. - Yeah! Now we want... Now he want milk. - That's how you get milk. - Yes, look! - Look at the little ones getting milk by mama. Amma is doing the morning ritual and we can help. Put it like this. Okay! And then, okay the incense sticks go there. Yeah! Okay! Love how many rituals there are and again the colors, red and yellow, so pretty. Like this? Om Namah Shivay! Wow! - Dhanyavaad. - Ready for the day. - Dhanyavaad Amma. Currently drinking the strongest coffee of my life. But I really needed it because I have a caffeine addiction and yesterday I even had a headache. So this is very good for me. And from drinking coffee, we are now gonna make our own Roti bread? and breakfast. But first, wash our hands. Here you can see what we were doing the first day, but then at a different location. It is amazing. Look at them. And we have a little one enjoying the breakfast already. She's loving it. Hello! So here we have the dough and then it's put in there. It will end up like this and it goes pretty quick actually. It looks easy, but I'm pretty sure, it will be more challenging than it looks like. Right now it is my turn to make the roti. Janine failed epically. So let's see what I'm gonna make of it. Really excited. It looks super easy, but, as we saw with Janine, it's apparently not that easy. I have no idea how I'm gonna do this. Like this and then even. Let's see. Oh, this feels nice. - Yeah. - It comes out everywhere. - You have to close with your thumb. - It's so difficult. - One way, more vertical. - More vertical. - Yeah. - Put the thumb. The thumb has to be closed. - And then you make a circle. - It's so difficult! - Go on. - Okay, I'm just gonna try. Like this? - Okay, I just do it immediately. It's actually feels so nice this, but I think it's very difficult to do it. I now understand why Janine had to... - Thank you for understanding. - That makes sense. Okay, I'm trying to do it as quick as possible. I feel like such a loser failing. Yeah, she thinks that's what. It's so difficult. Like I cannot really close it. I feel like... I think I'm even worse than Janine. Oh my God, is it a horse? - Pretty good. - It's my quest to find Nepalese husband. It looks pretty okay. - That's a broken heart. - It's a... Yeah, it suits me, you know. Oh, look it's almost one. - It's better than mine. - It's like... it sticks together. She says it's beautiful, look. I'm gonna wash my hand. This is the aftermath. How it looks like. But at least it was like half a piece. She said it looks beautiful. Can I put it in here? That's okay? Thank you! So I just washed my hands here and then they put it in here, so the buffalo can drink it, so literally nothing is being wasted. I love it. I'm crying because all the Nepali men, like they didn't want me. No the steam from the kitchen, it's really intense. So I understand why they made the kitchen outside because I'm like crying. There's so much coming in my eyes. My eyes are hurting big time. We're gonna have breakfast right there with everyone and we're now bringing the food over there. On the way to have breakfast with everyone. I'm really excited for it. Look where we have to walk right now. Hello! Good morning! - This is so nice. - Namaste! - Namaste! Look at all this. Oh, this is so nice in the hay. Yeah? Can I have? It's so nice. I love it. Okay! I love it. Look how we're sitting. - You are around 20-21. - He's looking for Nepalese wife as well. We're all on the marriage age. - Yes! So we're eating. Oxen are working. Bye! Time to really get in some work and help everyone here, so let's go. - Bye! - See you later. - Bye! - Bye! We are off on a little adventure out of the home stay here. And we have actually a bag with all the stuff in it with food and some water, so we are well prepared. And it is such a sunny day, as you may be seen already I changed outfits again because it was really hot. - We don't look sexy in Nepal. - No, we are farmer wives. Oh, okay! We have to carry something, wait. Oh, oh, Amma comes there. Okay, let's carry it. Okay, he's carrying as well. Wow! Hello! You go here? Oh, there? Okay! I carry? Okay! Dhanyavaad Amma. Bye! Here I go carrying. I love the Nepali life. I would make up for such a good Nepali wife. I love it. We are following... We are following him right now with this still on my head. Wow, but the views are incredible. It is so stunning here. The mountain peaks are very very clear today. I don't know if you can see it, but this is the view right now. It is stunning. And here we are walking. I'm happy that this one is not completely filled, otherwise, it would be too heavy. Wow, look at this view here. This is incredible. This is where we were the first day as well. What a stunning view! What's your name? - Krishna. - Wow! Wisnu? Wow, okay! - K-R-I-S-H-N-A. - Krishna? - Krishna. - Krishna, beautiful name. - My name is Susanne. I love how he's doing all of this, with his flip flops. So talented. I'm not sure if I'm carrying this the right way, to be honest. Guys, this is more difficult than it looks like. We're still walking and I even got more weight in it, so I'm a lucky lady today. It's very hot. We are now in the middle of the rice fields. Look at where we are. Crazy, so stunning though. But actually very hot. Here they are working as well. Hello, Namaste! - Namaste! - She will teach you how to harvest rice. - Your mother will teach us? - Yes! - How to harvest the rice. - Beautiful! There it is. - So the process how it works is first you harvest the rice, then you dry the rice like this. You see that the drying? - Yes. - They are drying it for a few days now. - Wow! - So after you dry them like over there. - Like there, yeah, okay! - After you dry the rice, then you collect the rice and make a pile like that. You see the pile? - Hm-mm. - Now the people are making a piles over here. - Oh, the big piles there. - So they make the piles because it's gonna be waterproof. - Okay. - Okay, after having a piles around a week or 10 days, then we smash the rice like this. - Okay! - Okay, take the rice straw from the piles and smash it over the rock. Then after smashing, you know, the rice, you're gonna take the straw out and the grain rice at home. - Okay! - Okay, so this is the process of separating the straw and the rice. So after having a straw, only the straw without the rice, then we're gonna do like the ox are doing it. So that is the end process. That we have to start it. - Amma is already harvesting the rice. - Hello! Let's see how it goes. This is the sickle. - And they are very specialized for harvesting the rice. - Only harvesting the rice? - Yeah, not for the grass. - Wow! - This one is for the grass. This one is only for the rice. - Okay. So I can use this one, right? - Definitely yes! - Okay! - This is the way to dry now. - Okay! - We're gonna keep it for some days over here to dry. - Okay! This is nice work. - Uh, huh! - I like it. And then, I put it here to dry, right? - Yeah! - But there is a special technique to put them dry. - Okay! - So you don't do it over and over it. You do it in a new place. - So you take it and then you put it like this? - More down, more down. - More down? Lower? Okay! It's really nice. It's like super therapeutic work. I love it. I enjoy doing this a lot. - Yeah? - Yeah! I really like it. This is so nice. Okay, and then we're gonna spread it out here. - You have to do it slowly. - And now this is full and then? - Oh, we'll find a way. We have many empty land. I'm really surprised that this is so nice to do. It really quiets the mind. You're like in nature, being in the sun, doing productive work, and your brain doesn't have to do a lot of thinking. Like it is so good to do and you're helping them here as well. So we're gonna take care of this whole plot of land and harvest all this rice. Only problem is we do it very slow and they do it super fast. It's crazy. Amma... Look at this. She's taking all bush. - Really fast. - She goes so fast. Wow! Look, how fast she does it. It's wild. Like I cannot keep up with this. This is so fast. And look at this, the whole field is now done and here it is drying already. You can see Janine is doing the very last part. Only that is left. It's such a hard job. I have so much respect for these people. It's crazy because the sun is out. I'm even out of breath and Amma does it so quick. She's the strongest woman I know. - So happy. - So happy? You're tired. - Yeah yeah yeah. Amma finish. - Look how fast she does it and just like that. Those are the last pieces that needed to be finished. Wow, now the whole field is done. My dream is coming true. I got to have a knife around me. - Around you. Look, this is what I always see. Look at that height difference by the way. - Yeah. - This is crazy. I love it. Wait and then you grab it Oh, other way? - Ready. - Ready to k!ll someone. - Ready to harvest the rice. And then you put it like this and I walk. I love it. I want to have it. I'm gonna buy one like this. This is so cool. It's handy as well. Nice. Thank you Amma. Dhanyavaad. So handy. Alright so we harvested the rice. After that is done, it's gonna be dried and they put it on a huge pile to dry the rice, where we are going right now. They are making the piles far away there and then we're gonna carry the dried rice onto the next spot Look at him, wow! He's collecting all the rice and making a big pile of it. So good. You can see a lot of rice that is drying, as far as you can see, actually, and here's a big pile, a very big pile. So let's see and gather some of it because this is dried enough and then we can take it onto the next spot. Hello, Namaste! - Namaste! - That's crazy. - Look at her first, look at her first. - Okay. - How she's doing it. - Oh, with a knife, okay. - But also without, now with a hand we can do it. - Okay. - Slowly. - Everything together. - Yeah. - Susan is gonna try to slip it. - Not much power. - Look at the difference. - That's a lot of difference. - Wow! - Is it end ? No, not yet. - Do more. - I have to do more. - It's crazy how happy this is. Wow! So we just got this. It's actually leaves. You can see the leaf here. Look at this. It's just fresh from the tree and you just eat it like this. It's a bit bitter, but it is very fresh. This is how it looks like. Straight from the tree. It's also little bit dry on the tongue. I'm not sure if I'm a fan of it, but at least we tried it. Right now it is lunch time. Before we start eating, they're doing a little offer to the nature. Small one. So beautiful. And then after that is done, here we're gonna make up the plates for everyone and then we can eat. So here we have rice, dal, chutney, vegetables and spinach as well. So we're gonna eat this right now. After lunch, it is time to learn our own way how to cook food and we are going to make Chut Put right now which is a super local dish here in Nepal. I tried it one time on the street and it was a big success. Right now it is time to make it by ourselves. Why are you giving me this water? - I gave you something special before. - Yeah, he tried to to feed me something horrible and now he's giving me water so he's making up for it. If you come here don't trust him. I love it. Janine just chopped the chili. She's chopping a tomato into small pieces. It's really nice that she's doing it because she's the Kitchen Princess out of the two of us. - Queen Energy! - My job is to crush this and I love it. Okay. - Okay I'm gonna do this. - Some cooked oil we just added as well? - Can I mix it? - Yeah. - Okay so we can eat it now? And what are the herbs that you just added? - Turmeric and a kind of masala. I don't know in English name. - Okay. Turmeric, masala, salt. - Yeah and salt. - Okay and oil and here we have the rest. We have tomato. - Tomato, chili, cooked lemon juice, oil, and spices and herbs. - Thank you! I wonder if it's spicy. Let's go. Oh, I like it. It feels more fresh than the other one I had. - Wow! - Mm-hmm. This is really nice. This is a really good snack. Instant noodles that are not cooked. Never thought that I would eat this but I love it. So nice. It's like chips. Spicy chips almost. We follow Amma to the Kitchen. And now he gives me the knife. - Again. - Don't do that Mister. It is time to do a cooking workshop. So we are gonna cook a full meal right now. I've never done that in Nepal before so here we go. Last one. I don't know what this is. So I need to know how to cut it. It is peeled. Look how good. Okay so we put the oil in it and now the soybeans. - Yes. - We are taking everything inside and gonna the last bits inside. After such an amazing dinner, we are going to sleep now because this morning was very early. Tomorrow morning is gonna be super early again. Right now it is full moon. It is absolutely stunning. This night is so magical. But I'll see you guys in the morning. Good morning! It is such a beautiful morning. The mountain peaks are so clear this morning. It is not too cold and we are currently enjoying the beautiful view from our home stay which I will show you right now. And now that we've enjoyed this epic view, it is time to learn how to make homemade ghee. Hello, morning! Good morning, Amma. - Good morning nahi, Subha Bihani. - Subha Bihani! So here they are preparing the water for the tea as you can see. Good morning! - Good morning! Good morning! Subha Bihani! - Subha Bihani! - Good morning! - Good morning! - Beautiful! - Look at the goats here, the little ones. They're eating and then we have the buffalo which is already milked which we did yesterday. And then, here we have the little ones eating and the big mamas. And here it is incredible to see. You see the super high Annapurna there. Look how clear it is. It is so beautiful. It's such a clear day and there you can see the sun slowly coming up. So the process of the ghee has already started. They have old yogurt which they are mixing right now. It's a very traditional process. I've never seen it done like this before and he even did like a little prayer before he started doing this. It's so beautiful. Time to try it out. I really like doing this. It's like exercise. - Morning exercise. - Morning exercise. - Yeah. - It's such a good thing to do. But I could only imagine if you're doing this for half an hour you have to be very strong. I feel it in my arms. But it's nice. I like it. So here you can see what is coming off. That's the white butter that came to the top because of the mixing that you did. We can actually try the white butter that just came off. Here we go. It's like butter. This is what's left over. It's gonna be put in another basket. It's a lot of liquid. So here you are seeing that the white butter is being boiled. Look at that. And then eventually, if this is done it has to cool down and then you'll get the ghee. Look at how it looks like. This is incredible. It's all handmade work. And that's what I love about this so much. It's such a beautiful process and it is super food. Ghee is so so healthy. You guys should look it up. It's a really interesting kind of foods. Oh my God! Hello! Wow! Such a cutie. Hello! Namaste! - Namaste! - Namaste! How are you? - I'm fine, thank you. - Namaste! - Namaste, how are you? High five? Yeah! Bye. You are so beautiful. Wow! High five? Woahh! So while Janine is cooking the Ghee, I am preparing everything to go and have breakfast up the roof. But I see Janine is already here. So there's only one hard worker in this house. - Hey, hey, hey, hey! I cooked the ghee. I worked really hard. No no no, we cannot say that. People here work really hard. - Exactly. - We're just doing a little bit. - Yeah we're like... No wait... how you say this? - 1%. - Not even, we're like 0.2% of what they do. - Yeah. And so unfortunately, to all good things come an end, and our time here in Barang village is ending right now. We just had an amazing breakfast on the rooftop and we are about to go back to PoKhara. This experience has been truly life changing for me. I am so deeply humble by the resilience, by the strength by the beauty inside out of these people here. The farm life is definitely not for everyone and the people here are so insanely strong. I have nothing but respect for them. It is truly incredible and I urge everyone to do experiences like this when you are traveling because it will change your perspective of life and it will show you different cultures. It will just change you as a human being for the better. So thank you to everyone here who made this experience so truly beautiful. And right now, it is time to say goodbye. - Wow, this is so nice. - Namaste! - Namaste! - Namaste! Dhanyavaad! Wow, it's beautiful. Dhanyavaad Amma. Thank you so much. This is beautiful. Thank you. Thank you for everything! Time to go, bye! Thank you so much. Muah! Dhanyavaad! Bye! I'm gonna miss you guys, bye. - I'll miss you. - Oh one more last hug. I'm gonna miss them so much. Time to really go pack our bags and off we go. Bye, thank you so much. Namaste! See you again. Bye! Wishing you all the best. Muah! Thank you. Bye! Bye! Bye buffalo, see you! Bye! Bye!
