strange things happen everyday in our world it's nearly impossible to go a day without saying something that shocks you and if you're a person who loves seeing the unexpected well you've come to the supposedly very true but before we get to that have you ever heard the term running around like a chicken with its head cut off well if you haven't now you have and if you think that was something that was made up and poured out of thin air well you're wrong just like I was for starters if someone actually says that to you then they typically mean that someone is acting a little frazzled rumor says that once chickens heads are removed for instance when they're about to be plucked chopped and deep-fried for a few moments after the decapitation they are able to run around frantically before they finally succumb to the inevitable death but what if I told you that there was a chicken who lost its head and stayed alive for more than just a few mere seconds all the way back in September of the 1940s a farmer named Lloyd Olsen had to behead 50 chickens to prepare them to be sold but one of them a rooster that was given the nickname miracle Mike actually refused to die as a matter of fact legend says that after the chicken ran around the yard for 15 minutes it ultimately settled down and plopped a seat on the ground as if nothing at all had happened miracle Mike even tried to Peck for food on the ground which it obviously couldn't eat so the farmer deposited the birds food directly into his throat with an eyedropper well talk about commitment but how is something like that possible well scientists summarized that the farmer must have missed the jugular vein of the animal and in fact the rooster never lost the part of its brain that was responsible for the most vital bodily functions as local newspapers picked up the story Miracle Mike and his farmer owner began traveling from town to town in some cases making his owner over $4,500 per month pretty creepy huh the rooster finally did pass away 18 months later before we're able to move on and since we're talking about some pretty freaky things today I've got to show you this photo that was just sent into the Supreme family check it out what the heck is going on here this is apparently a real photograph of the infamous Panama monster which was found in September of 2019 the story goes that a group of teenagers stumbled upon this mysterious creature and immediately killed it because they had no idea what it was this picture of its corpse made local and national news guesses about what the creature really was with everything from aliens and mutated sloths were suggested but there's been no direct ruling of what it could actually be do you think that this Panama monster was some sort of extraterrestrial or is there a more reasonable domestic answer to that question ear mouse from a headless chicken to a mouse with an ear on its back things are just going to get a bit freakier here on today's show meat ear mouse a scientific creation completed by a pair of brothers Joseph and Charles Vacanti the two were trying to figure out ways to grow human body parts in a laboratory so one of the things that they did were to implant the shape of a human ear onto the back of a mouse which they did as a test to see if they could get a better understanding of how to actually grow body parts from humans in various ways this picture made its way to the public in 1997 and thus the Vacanti Mouse was born the brothers never necessarily finished their research and if you needed an ear today then they still wouldn't be able to help you so some have speculated as to whether or not implementing this fabricated ear into this Mouse was even worth it the brothers did note however that the mouse was not harmed in the experiment and soon after the picture was taken the fake ear was removed from the animals back and then he was able to live a relatively normal life from that moment forward 500 year-old shark pop quiz what animal on earth has the ability to live the longest if you guessed humans well you're way off as people on average top out at around 79 years old or perhaps you named the Galapagos giant tortoise which would land you close as they have been known to survive for up to a hundred and fifty years old but the oldest living animal on the planet at least as far as we know is the Greenland shark it's been said that these creatures can survive for up to 500 years and just a few years ago scientists claimed to have found one specific Greenland shark that has been swimming around for at least 512 years scientists think this is the oldest living vertebrate in the world the researchers who've been studying the shark for years hoped to analyze the genes of the age-old animal to see if they can get some answers as to how life expectancies differ among all of the different animals in the world yes even including humans scientists say that this shark lives deep in the Atlantic Ocean and that the cold temperatures coupled with an extremely slow metabolism have worked together to lengthen the great sharks ability to survive they analyzed the eyeball specifically the lens and cornea to help assist in determining just how old the creature really is of course this isn't giving them an exact birthday but researchers do believe that it gets them pretty close so how would you like to live for five hundred and twelve years and what do you even get a person who's been alive that long for their birthday they must have everything already violet just said let's move on from strange creatures to a strange story about a lady who may be the most unsinkable woman in the history of the world let me explain violet Giselle was born in Argentina in 1887 as a young girl she contracted tuberculosis and was give near a few days to live by several doctors but she fought off the disease and survived much to the delight of her parents at age 21 she began working as a stewardess on a large cruise line this is when the story gets interesting one of her first major jobs was on a ship called the Olympic where she worked 17 hour days on September 20th 1911 the boat collided with the HMS Hawke the damage to the boat was severe but everyone did survive it took two weeks to get it up and running again and the next ship that she worked on was the Titanic now if you don't know the history of this infamous cruise ship it was involved in one of the most tragic accidents in human history when that Titanic was sinking violet was boarded into a lifeboat initially just to prove to the other women on board that it would be safe for them to do as well she waited in that raft among others for eight hours holding on to an unknown baby just to be rescued and she eventually was but those aren't the only two shipwrecks that violet Jessop was a part of in 1916 she was working on a ship called the Britannic she was a nurse during World War one when on one trip the ship hit a mine it immediately began to sink and violet actually injured her skull when she jumped into the water because she was sucked under the boat and conked it on a propeller so you would think that after being on three different ships that all sunk that violet would bow out of the industry and if you did think that like I did he would be wrong like me again she went on to work for a total of 42 years on several other ships and later was known to be the world's most unsinkable woman artificial womb so here's a quick story for all of the science nerds out there researchers are near completing testing of an artificial womb that's right scientists are trying to create and grow living breathing bleep animals in a plastic pouch and it seems that they're getting eerily close to completing the project it actually doesn't seem to be as bad as it sounds as this alternative could allow premature babies to finish reaching a proper maturity before they're brought into the world the testing began with baby lambs who seemed to grow normally for periods of up to three and even four weeks while in this man-made womb the project is still a few years from being able to test on humans but researchers are necessarily sure how they got this information but your average cloud weighs over 1 million pounds isn't that crazy there's something that appears to be floating very very high in the sky because it is floating could weigh so much so the obvious question becomes how could something that weighs that much float the answer to that is fairly simple clouds are made up of millions of tiny droplets that cover a really vast area researchers say that some of these droplets are so small that you would need over a million of them to form a single raindrop now that's crazy do you want to get a shout out
