hello everyone I'm called a cadet today's video is sponsored by empower tools and you know I don't do these very often because I'm pretty picky about who I work with but when I find a tool in this case a jig that is really well thought out and really good quality I really want to share it with you so let's have a look at this little jig so this is what the base looks like and they call it a crb7 and that just stands for combination router base and seven means the number of functions that it can do and this little part right here is kind of the heart of it it's the micro adjustment wheel but let's have a look at some of the functions that you can do with this today I'm going to show you some of the functions that you can use this router base for a couple of versions of edge trimming because that's a really popular thing to use a router for I'm going to show you a couple of versions of how you can make circles from small to large I'm not going to get into rabbiting and day doing but this jig does an amazing job of that but I am going to skip ahead and get into mortising because there's two ways of doing more to sing with this and one with an optional adapter does an amazing job so let's put the router onto the Jake and that's how easy it is to do and let's get started edging is a pretty common function for a router and for most things when it's straight like this there's not a problem but when you get to a corner that's where you can really get into problems and it really depends on the size of your router base if you this has such a big large router base look at from there to there there's like five inches if you only have your router base you've just got like a couple inches so when you going along here is not so bad but what do you get here you have there's a tendency for that to be able to flip so you end up getting a bad transition but we'll watch this one as we do an edge here there we go we've got a perfect transition from the front to the side the other thing that I mentioned that you can do with this is make circles really accurate circles and of course to do that you need to pivot around something and check out where they store the pivoting pin right down in here and it's magnetic so you always know where it is from underneath you screw that pivoting pin on and I'm just gonna drill an arbitrary hole anywhere here just to use as a demo now the adjustment remember I said you can adjust this in many different ways so I can adjust this back and forth like this so I'm gonna make is the tiniest hole that I can hear about there and you know I could micro adjust this too just by turning this wheel [Music] Jake also does much bigger circles as well and remember earlier on I said it came with these larger bars basically all you do is screw in one of these bars or two of them you couldn't if you notice in the end there's threads there so you just put it in there and you can put the other one on if you want as well if you're making really large holes or circles and there's the little pivot thing and I've already attached it to the board here just to demonstrate it for you so you put that through put that bar through there and now you can set that whatever length you want and fasten that down and because that screw is just a little bit loose in there it pivots so now you can make arcs or circles I mentioned earlier that there are two mortising pillars also included and I'm just going to show you how those work so we're just gonna slide the router back a bit so that I can undo the screws on these because they go through the little holes here so the way this jig works is you set it on your wood and you twist it clockwise so that the pillars line up against the wood because that's what's going to support it then you align the the your router bit roughly but then you could also find tuna and I'm gonna move that back a little bit cuz I'm a little bit out of adjustment and that's it right about there now I could take and cut that mortise right now and make one pass or make a number of passes till I get it as deep as I want but then I could micro adjust that over a little bit further and it's gonna move it so you can see but I could micro adjust that so that that bit would just go over like that and I could keep making passes until I make that mortise as wide as I want to now one of the things that you need to remember when you're using this centering kind of mortising like this is you can run off the edge if you're not careful so what we do when we get close to the edge and we do it test of it we actually set up some additional wood on the side so that we have some place to support those pillars and I like to put wood on both sides so it maintains that centering portion of the jig and that way you could just carry on and make mortises at any distance from the edge that you want this is an optional accessory and remember I said a well-thought-out this was look at that goes in that little hole that you could put the handle and the foot in that goes in there and attaches down there's a little bearing that goes on the front and I'm gonna move that router along so I could get access to that so setting up the edge guide was very simple I just made sure the depth was equal to the top of my wood here or my MDF then I micro adjusted it so that it would just catch the very end of this and I'm gonna go ahead now and make that cut [Applause] there you can see what a it it's just a it's an absolute perfect cut well now I want to show you what I think is the best part of this entire jig so here's the the main base this is an optional accessory that goes with it they call it the mortise hinge and flute adapter and check this out what happens is there's some screws so I'm gonna do this off camera so we're not waiting for me but I'm going to be attaching that like that and this part will attach here so you don't have to even take anything off the base you just add this on but look there's a micro adjustment in there as well so I can mortise would of almost any size and I can micro adjust it so let's have a look at that so this time I am going to cut this mortise and I've just marked it with the marking on the back there so I don't even have to watch the bit I can just watch my markings back here okay so let's go ahead and cut this mortise well and there's my mortise clean out some of the fuzz in there and it looks good I think my alignment here wasn't quite the same I think I miscalculated a bit because it's a tiny bit but I know maybe 1/32 of an inch longer than it should be but that's okay this was only a test anyway I wanted to see how well it's work and that's really good because I'm right on the line on both sides so the micro adjustment worked just great and I'm dead on the line on the bottom so you can straighten these out if you wanted if you wanted square sides all you need to do now is just use a chisel and clean those up if you want or if you're using floating tabs you wouldn't even have to worry about that well that concludes my video today on the combination router base and of course there'll be an article on woodwork wearable on this and you know I've never seen there's nothing else like this that I know of on the market that's as versatile as rugged and is well thought out this is an amazing little tool somebody should be quite proud of all the work they did putting into this might be something for you to check out sometime I'll put the links in would work web I'm calling canet thanks for watching you
