[Music] Hello Everyone, Northern Lights finally, we are able to make this video So many people asked us about how we saw the northern lights We are quite lucky as we have seen northern lights twice in two different countries If this is your bucket list item or maybe someone you know or you might have seen it in movies or web series and if you want to see it once and know how can you plan it so in this video, we will share our experience some tips and approx budget in which you can plan your northern lights trip So i am saurabh and i am megha and lets start this video so now lets goooooo when you start planning this trip the first question arises Because northern lights is visible in places above the artic circle if we see it on the globe then in this region you can expect to see the northern lights there's also a souther light as well in the below region, we haven't seen it, but if you have do tell us but in this video lets focus on northern lights in these countries you can expect northern lights We have seen northern lights in finland and iceland we haven't experienced it in Alaska many people have seen it in Canada and Alaska as well some people messaged us and told us that they can literally see it from there backyard so people in Canada are really able to see it from their backyard but in this video we will focus on Europe only but if you are north area so Alaska and Canada is more favorable but if your ae coming for Europe trip then you can follow this tip as well if you are in India then also recommended, as you can club this trip with other experiences Firstly you will have to pick your country but can you see northern light from any cities of these countries? the answer is no if we talk about Finland then you can see it in the area near to Rovaniemi, or closer to artic circle Like you cant see it in Helsinki so along with countries you have to check the cities as well we have mentioned it in the description, the cities where you can see the northern lights one famous photo of Logoten island which might have seen in norway So you can see the cities and countries where you can find the northern lights But firstly you will have to fix a place at first Mostly you will be able to see it in the northern countries only but sometimes you can see it beyond that also but its very very rare, like this time northern lights were visible in Uk, netherland as well but again its very rare The next important thing you should know is what is the best time to see the northern lights This answer is complicated as well as easy The best time is of course the winter months as the nights are longer and to see northern lights you will need longer nights in short it has to be darker and its happens in winter months which is Nov- Feb SO usually the strong northern lights are in this month only Does it mean we cant see it in any other season? we can see it in the fall season as well i.e Sep-Oct or in spring season as well i.e march we saw the norther light for the first time in Island and that was in late September And that was the best view ever, it was not that cold also nd in Finland, we saw it in the peak winter season that is December month it was not better as compared to Iceland all the pink and green lights dancing over the head The show wasn't that great but yes it was good, i will add some clips as well many people travel Iceland in winter but we wont as there's so many winter storms and to see northern lights, a clear sky is very important winter strong, rainy, full moon these are very unfavorable condition now you know the place and time Now its time to know for how many days you should plan your trip in 1 month you will surely see the northern lights if you have friends there then only go for 1 month otherwise it will be very expensive its recommended to at least plan a trip fro 5-7days more will be better but if you plan for less of days you can still see it but the chances will be less as it's a natural phenomena, not something like waterfalls or anything but if you go and you will see storms or cloudy whether then you wont be able to see it the more you stay, the more probablity you will have plus it's an expensive trip so 5-7 days will be sufficient even if there a bad weather you will still have chance to see it and if you see it on the first day then you can still do so many other things our many friends went for 6-7 days in winter but didn't saw anything due to winter storms so make sure you club it with other things so you can enjoy more well it totally depends on the luck but if you follow our trips and stay for 5-7 days then you will have the maximum probability to see the northern lights now the next important point is accommodation, like where will you stay? so famous accommodation which you would have seen everywhere will be glass igloo and seeing northern lights from the glass igloo is really a dream come true we tried it in Finland and was waiting patiently but didn't saw anything plus the glass igloo is very expensive so it was waste but this was our experience, there are many people who have seen northern lights from glass igloos as well make sure you take the accommodation within the arctic circle within this region but if you are traveling to Iceland, then watch this video as we will be sharing our experience as well but if you are getting a budget option in the city as well yu can take and then travel through a rental car similarly you can do that in Finland as well but be careful while driving as there will be snow all over so with car you can go out of the city and easily see it so you can stay in an igloo, hostel or wooden chalet as well they are also very beautiful and less expensive so you can choose your accommodation acc to your needs, we will also list down some accommodation option in description nd comments section so check them once and select your options now you are all set to experience the northern lights but the question is how to see and experience these northern lights so wherever you are traveling, chose a tour as they will take you someplace where there is dark and the chances will be more we will tell you about our Finland and Iceland experience i Finland we saw it during the December end as December is the month of winter strong so you will enjoy the fresh snow as well but when we went and stayed in glass igloo for one night we didnt saw it that night but when we were staying in wooden chalet on the next day we saw that due to tress we weren't able to see it clearly but overall it was good after this we shifted to the city and took a group tour in which there were 20-25 people in the bus, so that bus took us somewhere far from the city during the night but we got fooled, we thought they will chase the northern lights but they took us to their camp which was theri fixed place and it had people from every age group it was a big ground as well, so it was pretty sure that show would have been great if the northern lights were visible but the weather was not clear, so we waited for around 2 hours and it was way too cold so we came back to the city but in Finland its recommended to do a private northern lights hunting tour you can easily find them on google and Instagram as well so instead of taking a whole group they will take 2-6 people and ACC to the weather forecast they will chase the northern lights if the weather suggests its happening in northwest or northeast so they will go to that place and will try to show you a better show they will also take you far away from the cities and the best thing is they have all the equipment they will also click a good pictures of you and after that you will just have to enjoy the northern lights so after our Finland tour, her sister barkha when she went to Finland she took a private tour and see her pictures , it came out very amazing so if its fit into your budget then surely do a private tour and if you are at the end of your trip then make sure you book a private tour a they will try their best to show you northern lights so this was our experience of finland now lets talk about ICELAND, where we saw the best show ever it was around 2016 when we first went to Iceland and we went in September so we didn't expected to see the northern lights so the trip was almost 7-8 days so we were 6 people, i.e 3 couple and we went to see norther lights every night somewhere far form the city where there were no street light as we used to sit and shiver as it was still very much cold in septemeber also all the time we just looked upto the sky and waited for the northern lights, at one moment we started imagining it but still we got no success so in the end when only two days were remaining we came back to the city with zero hopes but we got a update on the app that solar activities will be really high and it might be the best show eve so we were in the car and suddenly the northern lights came like this and out of excitement we started shouting in the car and surprisingly we were in the capital city where the street light was there but still we saw that we also saw the kids playing basketball and looking at us as if we are mad or what for them it was quite common off course we went mad because we saw the northern lights inside the city so we quickly went away from the city, no tour but we had studied the map a bit and then what we saw was something out of this world, the show was super amazing to know about the forecast of northern lights there are many apps which can tell you just like the rain, snow forecast etc if you stay in glass igloo or wooden chalet so they have an alarm for it so even if the show is happening at the night the alarm will alert you so that you don't miss and enjoy it perfectly but if you are planning on your own and there's no alarm then you can use some apps like these are the apps, you can find them in the description as well so the app tells you about the direction nd intensity of northern lights its called the KPI index which is in between 0-0.9, o meaning no show and 0.9 sgnifies the best show a minimum if three is important then only go in that direction, even if it shows three there wont be much to see you might not be able to see it through naked eyes but yes its gets captured in camera so download the app and follow the direction and KPI, to get an amazing view of northern lights now let's talk about the most important thing, which is what to wear during northern lights hunting to see the northern lights you won't have to go somewhere on the mountain you will just have to go away from the city so the months you will be visiting would be very very cold the temperature goes in minus i.e -20 to -30 which means you will have to layer yourself we have made a separate video on this which will not only hep you understand what you will have to wear for northern lights but also what things you should pack in these countries it will also work for kashmir and leh ladakh as well but in short you will have to wear body warmers and a lot of layers when we went to Finland, it was so so cold that we were even not able to enjoy the northern lights so the next time we went we were dressed properly, we didn't see the northern lights but yes we were able to enjoy the snow so layering is very very important Now lets talk about budget so if you are coming from India then you have to understand that seeing northern lights wont be cheap it will be an expensive trip and that's why i guess its a bucket list item as well plus its not even sure that you will be able to see the northern lights but if you will see it then its gonna be amazing as people glorify the nrthern lights but yes its worth everything you can do it in budget as well but again its not gonna be cheap first lets talk about flights so its recommended to take a flight to finland as its less expensive so the flights will cost you 60-70k from India to Helsinki for one person for return travel and then you can make it as per your team and number of people the second main factor is of accomodation if you want to stay in a fancy place so that will be very expensive like the igloo stay will cost 60,000 for one night so its better you take a budget accommodation as staying there won't guarantee seeing the northern lights and then you can rent a car and travel to see the northern lights so its a little better option so the budget stay will cost you 50k-75k for one week for one person depemgin upon the different and for food, you can bring it from India like maggie packets or Thepla which is ready to eat if you want to save money but if not then you will have to spend on food, breakfast you might get in the hotel and if you are staying in apartment then you can cook so approx the food will cost 20-25k per head apart from that your internal travel will also cost around 20-40k and for norther light tours so it also varies the group tour will be cheaper while the private tour will be a little expensive the private tour will have a little more chances as they hunt for the northern lights the tour will cost you around 9-15k per head and if you want to do some other activities like or if you are in Iceland if you want to do glacier hike then that will cost you extra but as far as northern lights is concerned saurbh has informed you about that We have two videos with us one is of Finland total cost and the other is of Iceland budget for one week from India but those were a little od video so things might have gotten expensive but you can still take an idea or add 10% extraa but if you are coming for northern lights then his will be the budget for one person so you pan accordingly and if you want to increase your luxury experience then you can plan accordingly because there are different types of travellers, some will say they can visit the country for one month in this budget but the travel style of everyone is
