hey guys welcome back to my channel if this is your first video hi i'm elena and this is the organized money where we talk about planning life and managing money in today's video we are going to dive into the seven bad planning habits that i wish i would have stopped sooner these are things that i really wish i would have just learned quicker on my planning and productivity journey i feel like if i would have learned them sooner i would have just saved myself so much time and been able to achieve my goals much faster so i wanted to share them with you in case you are doing any of these mistakes and hopefully you aren't and then you can avoid them in your future so let's go ahead and get started planning mistake number one was spending half my morning planning and thinking instead of doing sometimes i would use planning as a form of procrastination i used to do this a lot in my past i would get up in the morning get my coffee sit down open up my planner and have a full planning session before i ever started working so sometimes it would be noon before i even opened up my computer which means i missed a lot of work time because i was so busy thinking and planning then i would get frustrated with myself because i didn't get that much accomplished in the day so now that's why i keep my planning very functional and very simple i pre-planned the night before so that i am so not focused on my plan and i can actually get things done planning mistake number two i would give myself too long of a break after work so i had a really bad habit after a long day of work of not having a game plan and resting too long so i would come inside and then i would instantly sleep on the couch and before you know it i was watching tv and i was not doing any of the to-do list or the chores that i had planned for that evening so now i have really made it a point to always have a game plan i usually won't let myself sit down i really try and keep moving for at least 30 to 40 minutes after i come inside then that way i kind of stay in motion you know that saying a body that's in motion stays in motion so if as soon as i come in i will put down my purse and then i instantly go into the laundry room and put in a load of laundry that way i kind of get myself already moving and i won't stop then after i have done maybe one or two things on my list i will take my first break of the day but i won't come into the house and instantly take a break because i realized that whenever i did that that was it for the evening i was not going to keep going planning mistake number three i would do a bunch of mind draining activities in the morning so these are activities like checking my social media checking my email checking the news as soon as you wake up and whenever you do this if you have ever done this you feel almost drained like you have completed a lot even though it is still the morning time you haven't really gotten your day started but you feel like you have because a lot of these activities take a lot of energy out of you without you even realizing it so now what i'll do is leave my phone alone for at least the first hour of the day this is time where i can kind of wake up on my own and then i'll check it after an hour of being already awake this one is a little hard to implement because we all reach for our phone as soon as we wake up but i promise you if you try it you will feel so much better planning mistake number four i would complete a bunch of my brain dumps and my to-do list in a bunch of multiple places then i would forget which notebook i put them on or what sticky note i wrote them on and they would never get completed i have talked about this one a couple of times before but it was such a big mistake that i had and i have done it for quite a number of years this one actually took me a really long time to get adjusted to and to stop doing but i would write on anything that was in front of me i would write on any sheet of paper any napkin any notebook and i would always lose the information i would even put information in my phone and still lose it like i wouldn't remember what app i put it in or if it was in my notes i just really would always lose different pieces of information so i always had a habit of writing things down but i would continuously lose them now that i have a special place in my planner for these random pieces of information i am so much better at keeping track of it planning mistake number five not planning any downtime so i would end up overworking myself so this one is something that i started when i first initially started time blocking initially i was planning every single minute of the day and i was not planning any white space or any downtime so that means i would never relax i was always trying to work always trying to get different things done and it caused me to crash and then i would sometimes get sick or get stressed out and i would get upset with myself so now i do really prioritize my relaxation just as much as i prioritize my to-do list in order to remain productive because in order to remain productive consistently you really do need to plan downtime consistently planner mistake number six not allowing my planner to change with my life so life changes seasons change and so will your planner when i first started my planning journey if i started a planner at the beginning of the year i felt like i had to stick to that planner for the entire year no matter what was going on i started time blocking around the time that i had my first child and anyone who knows anyone who has a newborn knows that time blocking is just not going to work if you have a newborn but i thought that i had to stick with it because that was the planner i picked i had to make it work now i am no longer committing to any planner for the entire year i do change as my life changes i just recently changed from the big to the classic planner and i will link that above if you want to see why i just ended up switching my planner and how i will switch according to my life and planner mistake number seven was making it difficult for me to plan so sometimes i would make it very difficult for me to actually plan my life because i had a checklist of all of the things that i needed to do before i could actually write in my planner and this was me decorating it this was me making it pretty this was me making sure my handwriting was looking a certain type of way all of these things would cause me to not use my planner consistently and now i have let all of that go i will write in my planner at any point in time now sometimes i will keep writing as the weeks come along i will have all pin spreads it does not matter it is a completely functional planner and i embrace all of the mistakes all of the scratch outs and all of the things that could possibly happen within my planner i just want to make sure i am using my planner so guys those are my seven planner mistakes planner bad habits that i wish i would have stopped sooner you let me know do you have any you would like to add to this list please leave it in the comments below and i would love to hear from you guys i will see you in friday's video and until then keep organizing your life so that you can achieve your dreams bye guys you
