68 Wall Hangings?! || Decluttering vs Keeping || Back in the Basement!

chicken nugget crumbs in there probably dead bugs actually yeah 25 30 i don't know there's like 50 pieces there's more than 50 pieces here because i just saw a bin with like 10 or 15 more welcome to the channel my name is erica lucas this is my husband andy and we are in the wall hangings zone of our basement we have divided our basement into zones based on our individual decluttering projects we have a seasonal decor photo albums sentimental beer office gymnastics so we have zones in our basement that have come as a result of decluttering for the last year in this particular basement we have been decluttering our stuff for the last two years and uh we live a minimalish life which basically is my version of minimalism where i am living with less but i'm not worrying about the mess and we are standing in our mess right now we are going to our goal for the day is to get rid of the wall hangings zone by choosing the pieces we're going to hang in the house and then getting rid of everything else we are renting this home we have been living here for a year we have decided to live here for another year i don't know how do you want to do it you just want to pick up a piece and make a decision yeah let's let's sort between cape and purge okay and then decide on our keep where we want it in the house yeah because that might create a secondary decluttering decision level okay all right so let's design decide between keep or get rid of and get rid of can take on a few forms donate a giveaway in a buy nothing group give away to a family trash it if it's broken sell it um donate it there's a lot of different ways we can get rid of things so let's just start with one end okay work together do you want to start at that end and i'll start at this end well let's do it together okay yeah because then like if you say i want to keep it and be like do you really want to keep that look we could we could riff up with each other if you will so like like this is a picture of me from i don't know 45 years ago 44 years ago um i don't want to hang a picture of myself in my house no no i i so what do you do with that oh no your mom gave this to you right yeah i mean all right so let's go through the process i don't want to move it anymore do you i don't want to move it anymore i don't want to hang a picture of myself as a baby in my house okay so the question is for wall hangings do we want the frame with the mat inside um you'd have to put a big picture in there right that's what i'm saying we would replace your face with a family picture do we want the frame um it's a little beat up do you think i don't think it's that bad and and now it's like 40 years old so it's like it's vintage yeah i don't have any reason to keep it i think a frame of this size is a little bit more work to get a picture that's going to go in it okay yeah we don't have that and so we're going to donate the frame or giveaway i'll probably do a facebook marketplace post or buy nothing group because this is a really nice frame that someone could diy into something different and people do that all the time so i will be giving this away okay there we go we'll start the uh start the purge pile keep all the white frames to the side because i have an idea for those okay i will run by you and the white frames that are rebecca's are going to go in her room today great just as they are good very nice okay so that's a hang today greater philadelphia homeschool science fair brandon's second-place award we asked brandon if he would like that hong in his room okay good plan so we have two of those two of these green frames i was thinking about above the two desks in the family room oh that's great do you like that yeah i do maybe i could paint them white but you can hang them for now yeah but i could paint them like yeah that's what i was thinking to fill that space okay yeah that would be great because we've been wanting something about those desks yeah okay very nice frames various pictures so i made one of each of these in the blue frames with each kid when i was pregnant with each kid yep oh we yeah make all three we made all these so this was oh my gosh i think this was brandon because it was professionally done this one was rebecca yeah that one was jack in another video i had talked about what to do with this and asked you guys and you guys all said take it out of the frame but keep the diploma because some people actually commented that they were required by their job to show a physical stamped diploma yeah or degree um so i'm gonna do that i'm gonna i don't want the frame okay um so we can get ready for anything nope okay we can trash the mat because it has the college donate the frame and put the paper in um important papers in our life docs so that's what we'll do with that so this is mine it's come loose in there but that's okay it's not broken you can hang that in your office but i will i have my my undergraduate degree hanging in my office uh so i'll hang this one as well for my master's yeah be careful though it's trying to fall out so we'll fix this and you're gonna take it to work yeah okay nine 10 11 12 13 14 15 16. all right we're 16 in 16 do you know what this one is number 17. i don't know what that is me nope this is one of the andy's promotions yep you're gonna take it to work or not have it anymore no i would i wouldn't hang this at work yeah it's it was special for a while you know i mean it's still special but um it's nothing i've had okay so do you want the frame for anything i don't okay so we're going to take the photos out and donate the frame what do you have there it's a very nice picture from many many years ago not really into this stuff like i was so um i'll uh this is i'm happy it's a it's a decent frame it's an aluminum frame but it's so donate yeah okay okay 19. lucas this is from when i first bought my house in virginia beach okay a gift from the realtor that doesn't really have any any sentimental meaning to me but it's really cute though okay and it has our name on it okay would it be okay with you i mean i know it doesn't hold central but it's cute i mean it's like that's that's what i'm saying we rip off of each other if one of us doesn't agree we talk about it and if you want to keep it i'm good with that okay as long as you know where to work well we're gonna find that out yeah okay here's the other one of these looks like it's got a band-aid stuck on it but it's actually a piece of cardboard so don't worry about that and these are photos we took on our honeymoon not my style anymore we've got the five on the fridge um i'm gonna get rid of this i'm gonna donate okay nice little uh picture that's cute and it's gonna scratch right across from his face so this is trash yeah what number was that 21 i guess so okay this is 22. this was seven years ago i remember that day that was a lot of fun maybe the last time we did wall hangings was when our youngest our oldest was this young because that's when we had time um it's a nice frame very nice frame so whether or not we keep the picture i think that's a framework all right i'm going to put this in the maybe pile choose joy do you want this no donate um so i went through a blue frame phase um probably just donate this right because we're not really doing like blue frames anymore i mean those three but that would be specific do you have anybody in our family like your mom or anybody who would want frames um i can ask this is the donate let's uh let's take pictures of whatever frames we have and see if anybody in the family wants them these are good kitchen wall hangings in our kitchen good kitchen wall but we don't really have a place in the kitchen hang on no i'm gonna donate them because they're they're annoying to level and keep level yeah that's the problem when you have multiple frames that go together is you gotta level them and keep them level this was a nice picture i bought from my bathroom in my uh in the first house i bought no i don't need to keep this you have any reason to keep this no that's a donate okay it's an okay frame but nothing special number 27 donate this is philadelphia this is boat house row this is a gift from money um i don't want it you don't want to keep it okay great i thought you would this was a gift from a friend that's a thank you it's beautiful the frame is lovely um so i will ask my family members if they want this because it's philadelphia what house will somebody from philly might want this right frames white frame we have two maybe sections a white frame section because we're doing white frames in our family room and then a maybe section for the miscellaneous we're not sure yet these are kind of pretty special yeah i'm not caught up but yeah so are you going to do a norfolk i would need something and then uh where so i'm too behind i got these from l.l bean it's the uh latitude and longitude for each place that andy has had orders for the time that we were married these are pretty cute i probably if i can get two more and catch them up i'll probably like to keep these what do you think yeah that's great and i think and i think the way i want to hang these is um using like felt behind them so they're always level instead of putting them on their own nails because these again these are just like we were saying before they're annoying about to keep level okay um just hang out hanging one one at the top ribbon or felt or something okay so that was 30 31 32 this is 33. this is 33. this was for my birthday party from our oldest first birthday seven and a half about to turn eight i'm going to donate this frame yeah there's another one let's donate that donate okay so here's 35 prayer of saint across a whole bunch of frames that are family frames that we're going to take out the pictures and donate the frames okay family picture donate frame 37 38 38 39 i'll keep your picture okay 39 donate for free you made this for me didn't you i did yeah you don't have to give that away i can update the picture with a picture of all three of you i actually took one a couple days ago with you with the three kids i'll update the picture all right so this is a key and i'm gonna update the picture i don't know what this is a very nice picture of a boat i think actually jenny took this picture my sister i think jenny took this picture these are all donate family pictures we're going to take the pictures out and donate so 42 42 43 44 45 46. careful this bottom was falling apart 47 is a keep i'm gonna put it on the shelf upstairs 48 this isn't a picture it's a mask from my parents honeymoon no nobody really wants it i claimed it at one point but i don't really have a good place to hang out so probably donate it here you pose it as a question as opposed to what as opposed to trashing it oh it's a donatable item i don't know um custom made from jamaica okay so no i don't think you can sell it you could give it away in the buy nothing facebook group okay so whatever it is it's purging yes okay here's where we are this is what we have left 49 that's a don't save the picture donated correct and 50. yep take the picture nice frames back from your from your blue face oh look another blue face oh donate see a picture what is it what number is that uh yeah okay another heavy frame i was going through a heavy yellow face a yellow frame face yeah two donates 54 50 there's some here's a picture grandma and grandpa oh definitely not getting rid of that picture no it's a very special picture i think i'll put that in sentimental yeah and then a picture of rebecca yes two two donuts 53 54. a nice little picture about love well this was the scripture yeah right so let's keep this well i have our vowels up on the thing right in a frame in our bedroom to hang okay okay then we don't need the keyboard i'm good with donating okay cool you're cool yeah okay 56 right here this is a very nice frame another blue frame yeah oh this is a nice frame yeah that's a maybe um it's very different no we'll get rid of it oh this is a cube yeah this was um your mom wrote on the inside of it um one of andy's great great parents made this for their baby so this is a family heirloom that my mother-in-law framed into this yeah i mean if i hang in her room again i would want to make sure it's very secure i think it's more it's more in the sentimental yeah give to her when she's no it's the sentimental maybe we take it out of the frame maybe and keep it although the frame also serves to preserve it somewhat right oh deserve it from what i mean the kids yeah i mean i just meant like water damage so those go in the maybe white frame pile 59 um we're not keeping brown frames right yeah there's nothing special about that frame so i'm good with joining you remember that thank you jeremy and jamie yeah that's a great fall spark yeah great great folks national park great falls national park yeah um this is johnny these are keep i don't know what i'm gonna do with them yet but this is our oldest the first year yeah this is our middle child the first year and this is the youngest child the first year he's four years old i have to finish this i have all the photos in the photos bin so when we actually work on that project i have every month for each baby i just well i have three babies three two and one and i didn't do it so that's a keep i just have to complete it okay and then this is a donate this was a i just didn't like it because the pictures were small i started it and didn't finish it and then plus it's if you can see it's bowed the frames bowed so yeah at the top so yeah that's a good one to donate don't eat okay okay here's 64. i think we already decided to get rid of this i think so pub mirror you definitely did i like it but i could hang in the garage right there uh next to the freezer okay that's what you want yeah okay certainly so 64. 64. yep 65 domain something that you gave me to give a gift to me and we never really did anything with them but if it's beer stuff i have a whole shelf where i say beer stuff and i just donated four more poster frames before anchor brewing oh this these are nice yeah all anchor brewing coasters that's yeah these can be part of my beer collection okay and you're gonna put that in your beer supply yeah i'll put it up because i have lots of stuff like this so that was 66 67 68. 68. i'm gonna step over here so it's here in the camera 68. i had good intentions when i got it yeah we never used it um yeah i was gonna spray paint it and change the wood and then i was gonna use it like on the wall to hold their toys in the quiet work corner i love where the writing desk their little antique writing desk is i was going to put those behind the couch yeah yeah i'm just going to make like a little space about that no you don't like that okay donate 68 donate that's it nice okay let's go hang some stuff yeah okay so we processed 68 items and we've chosen to keep one two three four five six seven eight nine keeping 25 of 68 and i just decided okay so um i just decided we're getting rid of these four frames because we they didn't work into the grand scheme up there so i'm going to donate this okay 20. 20. i'm not trying to get below a specific number minimalism at least minimalish is not about having a certain number that you keep for a category what i'm doing is actually just re-evaluating what we've decided to keep because ultimately now we have to go hang this stuff and when i took a second look at it i was like i don't know where i'm gonna hang that no we're not keeping it this is a maybe it really well you know what i don't know this is this is a keep but it's not gonna stay in the frame here we go i think so 19. so we're keeping 19 of 68. oh let's go hang 19 things let's start in becca's room because that's easy it's great and that yellow frame i know exactly what we're going to do with and the lucas frame i know what we're gonna do with and these two i know exactly where those are gonna go great i'll get the big frames are you able to navigate yeah are you without calling on yourself i keep any promises that right there is our declutter piles 49 items right there we've decided to get rid of we're going to back it up so you can see all of that 49 items we've decided to donate woohoo there's our old wall hangings zone that's going to go in the garage andy really wanted to keep that i guess we still got to figure out where to put these and let's go hang some stuff look at that it's open you are a princess have a tea party dance with daddy dream big believe in fairy tales talk to the moon hug money reach for the stars and have fun well i'm gonna do all that yes that's what i want for you in life [Music] very nice that's where she wanted it all right [Music] and a half 66 and 59 and a half 57 57 so the fireplace is not centered on this wall what would look better if the pictures were a little closer to the tv or a little further from the tv probably further would be my opinion that means i'm centering from fireplaces that was my gut reaction as well when you asked the first time so i would say the center of 59 in the center of 57. [Music] this is one reason i save my empty bins when a project is done it's a method for me to be able to get stuff to the donation center so i'm going to put all of these in this bin um i'm a little tired for the day i don't feel like taking these all apart and taking out the family pictures right now but i am going to make this safer to navigate the basement until i feel like doing that project which will either be in another video or off camera but i am preparing it for that to be able to donate them all right these are all the ones we've chosen to donate i just have to get the family pictures out of them these are our diplomas this frame needs to be repaired and my diploma is going to come out of there and go in life docs um this i'm just going to give away for free and then um this i think my brother might like this and he might like that so i'm going to ask him if he wants those these are the ones that are for donation that are not family pictures and can prepare for donation by making their way upstairs bit by bit one day at a time and today is not that day because decluttering is exhausting and it's emotional and it's physical hello bean doesn't make this style anymore oh no i just looked it up so this version was 35 their new version is thinner it's inferior and it's fifty dollars why don't you look on etsy uh i found one on etsy that's very similar yeah but not the same right what are your thoughts i don't know let me think on it [Music] [Applause] thank you for spending part of your day by watching this video would love for you to subscribe and join our family here on youtube and here's another video you
