hello guys another video from my carers every Friday and today it's a little bit more structured I have six tips for you to increase the likelihood of job opportunities a few weeks ago on this channel I've shot a video about being nice so that's kind of the overall first tip intro tip but let's get a bit more practical and have six points for you what you can do to increase the chance of being invited to job opportunity in no particular order tip number one is participate on social media for two reasons first potential employer or HR will Google you and should land on somewhere that you have some presence for developers what works best is Twitter and Linkedin choose your social network of choice it doesn't matter that much and also you don't have to tweet or post a lot you just have to be visible you have to have social presence not only for someone to notice you when they Google you but also you increase the chance of someone noticing you from Twitter other users and inviting you to a job if they have something to offer that also will help you stand out if the employer has a few candidates and have to choose from someone if you have a better social presence it's a big plus tip number two kind of related but about offline talk as many people as possible about what you do this way you're increasing a so-called surface of luck so a lot of people are called lucky if they get a job but lucky means that someone noticed them and offered them a job but that noticing Doesn't Really Happen accidentally so the more people know about what you do the bigger the chance of they will remember you when they get the offer for you tip number three also related but a bit more private help people with their problems so help on forums Discord stack Overflow Twitter and elsewhere help people to solve problems and it may potentially lead them to hire you or them referring you to someone who can hire you for example someone has a problem small problem you help them fix that but then when they have bigger problem with the project they go to the same person for help and potentially give you money usually at my experience it ends up with freelancing opportunities sometimes for smaller projects but still tip number four is participate in open source so your GitHub for developer is actually your CV when the employer is judging whether to hire you they want to see the code not necessarily the HR people but technical people who can judge like CTO or whoever is responsible in the company for decisions of who to hire if they haven't seen your code your official formal CV doesn't really matter that much both of them matter but GitHub should be at least professional talking about you and listing your projects and it's not necessarily that you have to create some package or project you may participate in someone else's project you may be a contributor to open source like laral for example basically you need to show some activity on GitHub with code examples tip number five is do not burn the bridges so stay in touch with your former colleagues your University friends people who can potentially refer you to some job offers they've seen you at work or at studies they've seen your personal capabilities and qualities so if you end your relationships or quit your job or something do not burn the bridges do not get into fights stay friendly stay positive and you never know when the same person would refer you for another opportunity and talking about University personally I'm not a big fan of formal education especially for developers because most of us actually are self-taught but what I did get from the university is bunch of friends and some of them did have collaboration with me years after finishing the university and then finally tip number six is learn English language if you want to have international opportunities spoken English language will take you much further it doesn't have to be like correct grammar or 100% test results or stuff like that you just have to be understood when you speak when you write when you express your thoughts when you comment on GitHub or Twitter or something like that because so many times I see developers kind of closed in their own country which dramatically decreases the surface of their opportunities of course that question is pretty sensitive because some countries are almost closed economically and it's hard for other people to hire from some countries but generally if you do have an opportunity to work abroad remotely start learning English and practicing English by speaking somewhere find online friends start doing YouTube videos whatever for me it massive paid off because if I had stayed in my Lithuania which is like 3 million people in the whole country I would totally not have any level of success like larel daily which is a worldwide audience what do you think about this tips would you add something else to this list let's discuss in the comments below that's it for this time and see you guys in other videos
