hey friends welcome back to my channel my name is Heather and this is create your own [Music] cozy on today's video I am going to show you my my 4040 Challenge and if you don't know what that is I'm Sonet from sonnet's garden blooms is hosting within our creative networking group we spent $40 at the thrift store we have 40 days to upcycle it or just flip it and sell it in our booths or whatever spaces we have available and see who can make the most money if you want to see what I grabb for this Challenge and what I plan on selling these items for stick around so if you watched last week's video you know that I squeezed in some retail therapy in my crazy crazy cray cray May kind of week and I ended up spending $398 with tax at my favorite thrift store the place and I am going to show you today what I grabbed I'm going to attempt to show you what I paid PA for it and add it all up and see in the resaler world what spending $40 can hopefully translate to so let's go ahead and get started the first thing I am going to show you I did show you in my little shopping video last week are these handpainted slate tiles I got them for a doll a piece and I just thought that they were super precious they'd be good as like a little shelf sitter or on a wall I do have two of them they look similar enough I mean it's clear that they're hand painted but they look similar enough so you probably wouldn't want to have a set of them cuz they're the same but I thought I would listen I feel like if I was not trying to sell these within 40 days I could price them a little bit higher but I think I'm going to go $16 a piece and see what I can do so spent a dollar a piece hoping to do $16 a piece because they are hand painted and we will see how those go one of the next things that I got there is a local store in the area in Alpharetta called outrageous Bargains and these were originally from from from there I paid $4 a piece and the original retail ticket that was on here was $16 a piece so I'm going to go ahead and price them as that right now I am not going to paint them obviously guys look at them they would look amazing painted wet distress back it is so tempting but the whole trick within this is to try to touch these as little as possible get them in the booth as soon as possible if they don't move I can always paint them later but it's possible someone's going to love them the way that they are so I thought this was a total no-brainer so when I showed these to the creative Network group on Tuesday they didn't flat out call me lazy but they pretty much said why don't you get just add some white wax to them so that is what I'm doing here I am just going kind of heavy in the crevices with white wax from DIY paint and making sure I don't touch the product with my fingers it's better to use a paper towel to touch it so you don't get fingerprints all over it and then just wiping it back to kind of bring out the detail a little bit more it really didn't take that long but it is a quick little upcycle and I hope my networking group sees that I made made a little bit of effort the week before school's out a little bit more effort than I was planning [Music] to something else that always sells well for me this cute little mug I'm partial to purple trying not just to keep things for myself if it doesn't sell within the 40 days maybe I will but it's just a perfect condition little mug I paid 50 cents for it I can sell these for $7 all day long $7 to $9 depending on the complexity of a mug but I always try to grab ones that I like because I assume someone else will like them as well let's just go back let's go to mugs I found one of these and then I was so excited to find a second one now they are a little bit worn I paid 25 cents a piece but they are milk glass look at them no I paid 2 cents a piece for these so a total of0 50 I was going to charge $7 a piece they're melt glass they are very original they look so cute like in a kitchen oh my gosh they would be so cute so I'm going to attempt that and see how they go all right I can't pass it has that Beau beautiful ring like a crystal ring to it it was a dollar I don't even know how much I thought I was going to sell this for um but thought if I just kind of staged it with some little Floral in it it would for sure go this would be perfect for when Daddy goes and picks flowers out of the yard for his girls um I'm going to sell it though but it'd be perfect for that idea for little fresh cut flowers that are picked out of the yard even if a kid picks a flower for his mama like or her mama this would be a great thing to do I need to look it up and see I mean I was thinking the $7 to $9 range but um I still need to look this one up supposed to do my homework before the video started but you know what it is what it is this is so cute 50 Cent 25 I'm going to sell it as a pair I probably will just sand these edges because when it's supposed to be like a nice little corner I like for these to be a little bit softer so I probably just saying them I was tempted to clear wax and then white wax them but they are gorgeous colored the way that they are and I was thinking $12 for the set maybe $14 for the set but so tempting to keep them for myself and have them in a cute little vignette but I'm not going to win a challenge keeping stuff for myself if they don't sell it's a totally different story all right this is a little soup canteen I obsessed with these I spent $5 for this now I looked it up online it is I believe just it's small right it's not one of those big ones it's probably 7 in at the widest part there's no there's nothing on the bottom of this but I love these little like labels and it has a legit Ladle a cute little lid and the little plate on the bottom has some crackling is what I'm going to call it but look at what the bottom it's almost like this was a wedding present it says Mary and gim August 10th 1968 so there is not like a stamp from the manufacturer but it was definitely personalized I would love to know if any of you guys know the story of like how you could have personalize something like this I just thought it was really cool but how cute would this be take away the ladle just to put some like what are those like paper white bulbs wouldn't those just look precious in here the bulbs and then just like shoot out anyway I digress it's going to the booth or um I'm considering putting these things online and doing like a little thrifted haul we'll see how this week's go this week goes I'm allowed to put it in my booth Wednesday which is tomorrow but I'm going to take a bunch of photos and measurements and maybe get some listings up on my website let me know in the comments below would you guys want to purchase any of my thrifted found or upcycled items on my website it's something that a couple of you have mentioned before and I'm strongly considering it now maybe just doing it like I don't know one haul at a time and maybe I could go into my little inventory and start selling things that way this one is really fun it is heavy I paid how much did I pay for this one I paid $5 for this it is really heavy the lid doesn't quite go down all the way like it doesn't sit all the way in there but the bottom of this does say say DD good gracious people epns from Japan so it is little but I was thinking of putting it up there or putting it up for $20 um According to some Google Lens stuff that I did that would be really great if I could get it if not I could always go down that is I don't know it's just it's cute I like the patina on it the way it is and you could even do some cute little floral with the lid like I don't know it's cute I seem to be having a thing for for plates lately and I really love this one got to put it in the booth though how much should I pay for it I paid 50 for it and after looking it up it's like a salad plate I'm going to list that for $10 it is still need to wash it but you can see Oxford made in Brazil and it is only s in seems to be a theme today but so precious if one were doing a cute little wall or a vignette just the right kind of blue in my opinion it's not too deep just the right kind of blue now let's get one more thing before I get to the things I'm going to upcycle you probably saw this in my shopping video and knew I was going to pick it up if you know how much I love baskets this was $7 I was considering adding like a um dark and de cpid stain type thing to it but I think I'm going to leave it as is just because the lighter colors are totally trending it has like this little pocket right here these are all intact whatever these little decorative things are and I just thought it was cute listen someone's not going to go on a picnic using this but how cute would this be in your Decor to use to like as a riser for a space when you're doing a vignette you could even have it like this with some stuff in the front of it it's really cute I was thinking of putting it out there at 28 it is $28 it is a good size is super light could probably be pretty easy to ship see these are the things I have to think about and it is in good shape there's a couple of spots on the back here but you know for the use for its final use it's highest and best use right now is gorgeous decor and it is in tip top shape for that now let's go through some of the things that I plan on up cycling this one is going to be a simple upcycle I paid 50 cents for it it is a little apple somebody kind of Drew on these weird yeah that's not I'm just going to probably paint this still have to decide what color but it is a nice neutral um shelf sitter piece and I was thinking of putting like between probably like seven or 8 on it once I do the [Music] upcycle this one is super easy I just got out some little black dress from DIY paint it is a nice lovely black color and then I'm just covering up the marker right here I'm not doing the edges cuz I like the two-tone look and then I'm going to go over it with a wet towel to wet distress it so it's not so freshly painted and this one was a really quick hey this can be reused don't overlook stuff just because someone got to it with the [Music] Sharpie okay you know that I could not leave this little bunny behind he was only 50 he is a plasticky plastic and he looks like chocolate I think I might want to upcycle him and make him look a little richer but he was 50s even if he doesn't sell on the 4 days oh my go he's so cute so I was thinking he could sell for $6 to7 once I upcycle him and I'm going to sell him sell him not keep him sell him not keep him all right so let's attempt this plastic little bunny first of all I got out golden ticket I really needed to mix it cuz I had not used it in a minute and I went on the bottom and I'm like you know what nope this is a top coat that does not go directly over plastic so I got out my DIY clay based paint I am using the color prairie gray right here in my Little Dipper DIY paintbrush and just kind of stippling it on the plastic and this is just an example that this paint can go on pretty much anything so I did 2 and 1/2 coats of that and then took the golden ticket on the bottom um it was covering super well I did a second coat and that's probably if I was going to do a golden bunny that second coat was where it was at but then I started thinking if I was going to put this in my home what would I do what I would do is just Pur gray with a white wax and I went really heavy with the white wax I didn't even do like a top coat cuz I wanted it to be um very saturated with the white wax and then I wiped it back just a little bit this bunny I know I need to make money for this challenge but he wants to stay in my home I mean I'm not going to make that much money on him isn't he highest and best use staying with Mama I don't know let me know in the comments below do I sell them for $6 or just say this is the best little 50 c home decor that I get to look at [Music] this guy $1 it is solid wood it is not the right tone of wood not the right tone of wood so I'm going to do something to upcycle this one um it has two you can either hang it straight or hang it at a diagonal which is probably what I would do because it looks more interesting at the diagonal than straight who knows thought that was a really cool deal [Music] I'm going simple guys taking off the price tag just going straight over this with white wax I realized that when I um kind of got rid of some of the white wax I didn't like that look as much so what I did is I just reapplied and let it it dry and cure overnight with the a little bit thicker coat of the white wax you can control how much you have on there so I just left that and then cleaned up the mirror and I think this is a really cool looking home decor piece and also I got these which were actually you know what these are solid wood I don't think this one is I think this is just like a made to look like wood but these guys are solid wood and I thought that they could look really cool upcycled by being painted and put a transfer in the center I don't know I don't know what I'm going to do just yet but I know I'm going to paint them and then justess them back so that this would shows um these were also a dollar a piece they are in really good shape and they can either be hung straight or diagonal as well to be a little bit more interesting so um when I get down to my studio I will decide what in the world is going to be happening to these I'll probably insert that in here right now so my group suggested I try some IOD molds and I thought of my new favorite the new relase veritus mold from IOD and I'm just putting some corn starch in there this thing is messy from the last time but it still worked just fine corn starch in there and then putting the IOD clay in there using that micro to make sure the edges are nice and crisp um I forgot to mention or I would love to mention that all of these DIY and IOD and even jrv products that I sell are on my website at create youron cozy.com and I just wanted to say thank you to everybody who supports my small business over there whether it's in my um antique booths or on my website I truly am excited every time I get an order so I'm just turning the mold over letting the clay fall out of the mold oops didn't quite do it on that one did I and just kind of seeing where I want it to lay and then decided I like this two-tone look so I wanted to paint the clay it does dry white but I didn't want it to look unfinished so I just kind of stippled on White Swan so that it um looked a little bit more finished this is where I may have gotten myself into some trouble because I'm trying to rush it and I want to glue it on while the clay is still wet but I don't want to get paint all over the wood cuz I want the two-tone so I'm drying the paint but not the clay and this may have caused a little bit of crack that I did end up getting but I'm turning it over using tight Bond quick and thick to get this fully attached to the wood frame pushing down in the little ridges to make sure that there's great adhesion and then using um a paint brush with nothing on it to kind of wipe away any of the excess glue and letting that dry completely now it did end up getting a couple of cracks and I went over that with the IOD clay and just kind of filled in those little cracks and then let that dry completely before moving on to the next step you can see right here here's the crack I'm just putting some clay over it it's not super obvious but I wanted to keep this two-toned if this doesn't work out for me this whole thing could totally be painted um kind of wet distressed and that would be okay but I really wanted to try this two- tone look before I did anything else and then I wanted to add some white wax apparently I am on a white wax kick in today's video I go through some phases but I liked this two-tone look but needed the wood to look like something new had happened to it I just I just wanted to kind of update that a little bit so I'm just using a book page to try to get as little wax on the mirror as possible and thought these turned out really cute wiped back some of the wax for the look that I wanted what do you guys think of this [Music] one I cannot seem to pass these up and this might be cheating but I paid $5 for it and what I'm going to do is I'm going to paint this white and I'm going to use the other one of those IOD Birds on a wire things right here and I am going to sell that between $28 and $38 I feel like that is an easy upcycle um I don't have one in my booth every time I put it in my booth they sell so I mean it's like a um I'm not going to try to fix what is not broken I know that somebody is going to love that and I feel like that would be a quick sell for my challenge can you believe I changed my plans again while my original idea would have been great for this $5 tray um plans changed so I'm basically going to two-tone this with white swan DIY paint just cleaned up the tray painting over it I'm doing two solid coats of the white and then letting it dry I worked on this upcycle on a live that Sonet talked me into doing with her on Monday I really had fun I was nervous and I always said I will do I don't want to do a live by myself I would do it if I had someone to talk to where I wasn't responsible for all the conversation for that long a time and she's like well why don't you do one with me and you know what she removed my excuse that's what good friends do and I did a live and I'm really happy with this picture that I came up with on the live and my friend Kristen on the group was like you know you should do some stuff that goes with that picture so that is what inspired this particular tray I am using the new IOD paint inlay called lattice Rose guys I just got this back in stock the exciting thing is this was such a popular inlay that we got to reorder it just the one time now when it sells out with IOD it is done and not going to be produced again so I'm using the little leftover of the sheet that I used on Monday and I'm going to piece the rest of it just put my finger around the oval so I knew where to cut it and I'm just dry fitting the paint inlay over the spot where I'm going to put it next I am going to do another coat of paint where I'm putting the inlay you'll see that I wet distressed along the edges just to kind of go with the same feel that I had in my picture and this layer needs to be a little thicker than you think it should be you're basically trying to get the paint inlay to embed with this wet layer of paint so you want to make sure you have enough paint on your project to do that so I'm doing that coat and I am going to spray the painted side of the paint inlay with my water mister and the grid Mark should be facing you ask me how I know I've done it the wrong way before so put the paint side down grid marks facing you and just kind of work it into the paint work on getting some of the wrinkles out and then you need to spray the top make sure there's not any sitting water and let it dry completely [Music] after it's completely dry you'll see the paper has a changed look to it um you spray it with the water Mis again and really rub it in and make sure the whole thing has been saturated and now you're trying to pull the paper away from the paint and leave the image in there and I tried starting on the peace meal part and was having trouble getting it to come off well so I switched plans and came from the other direction look how gorgeous this turned out woo that's beautiful so the next thing is this needs to be sealed in so I used a 50/50 mix of big top and water sprayed it on top look at the gorgeousness [Music] so after adding up all the um prices that I hope to get I put 22 on each of these once they're upcycled and I put 24 on this just because of the shape of it and hoping to make it a little bit more special so after I did all of that I have a total of $31 um which is a rough profit of $26 obviously I have to take off percentages um 10% if I'm selling it my booth another 3% if they use credit card and if I put it on my website I have some fees to use the square payment system on there so um just the rough profit is $260 which is not bad for a $40 investment it requires me to go shopping to grab the item to clean the item to price the item to upcycle the item to tag the item to put it in my booth to list it on my website if that's what I'm doing and to house the item and take up space um and take on the risk of I think this will sell versus something else so yes um there is an upch charge but it is it is for some honest work around finding the things so um if you you are considering doing this type of business like these are the types of things you have to think about and it's fun because you get to shop for stuff that you would like anyway so let me know in the comments below what you think of my stuff for my 404d challenge um I will definitely keep you in the loop at the end of The Challenge to let you know how I did with what actually sold I have a little spreadsheet so that as I sell them I can keep track of these things now this is good not just for this contest because like there's a little prize that we get to win if we win it's also good for me to take a look at my business and remind myself what a $40 investment can possibly um yield and to kind of have me watch these particular items a little bit more closely and kind of like pay attention to what's going on in my business so if you guys enjoyed today's video please let me know in the comments below if you are new here would love it if you would hit subscribe hit the notification Bell to all so you get notified every time we up upload a new video all right so I'm hopping on right now to let you know my intent it is 11:45 on Friday I'm finishing up my editing and my intent is to post some if not all of the items from this challenge to my website and to leave them up for one week prior to getting them to my booth so if you guys want to help me with this challenge or if you're interested in purchasing any of these items go check out them out on my website and um if they haven't sold in a week I will take the listing down and move them over to my booth um the thing is I just got notification that my initial order for these gorgeous bracelets are on their way um I am going to be putting those for sure up on the website and what a great little add in if you guys are already getting paint or products for me to just slip that into the package and I just did an initial order I just did an initial order with what I thought would be a great um start so let me know in the comments below um if you're excited about that and okay now I am going to finish up and I will see you guys in the next video bye [Music]
