hello I'm Rosie Hardy this is Rosie Hardy gardening today I'm just going to go through a few of my favorite long season long flowering Garden perennials because there is no point in putting a plant in and it just flowering for say 10 or 12 days it's much much better to have some of these stalwarts which will flower continually through the season giving you interest nothing wrong with the other ones have those there by all means but you need a lot of these other perennials in there just to give you that extra boost and have flour continually through the year so I'll start off with this one this one is nupita this isn't a Peter Grand Flora summer magic it has ground floor in it that means it doesn't have so much of the oils that the cats like so hopefully the cats will not go and roll in it and nibble it and what have you but this one grows to around about 18 inches by about two feet so 45 centimeters by 60 centimeters really good strong re-blooming form good long big flower spikes really great for sunny conditions and it will go in all sorts of soils so it will tolerate clay soils so if you can't grow lavender this is a good alternative this makes a brilliant hedging plant it's fabulous for that and once a flower Spike has maybe got to a point where it's no longer looking that good you can cut it back or you can leave them there because they actually don't deter because the bracks look really really good really filled with bees and other pollinating insects a cracking plant once you get to the end of the season it really is getting to the point where it is finishing flowering give it a haircut down to the ground it will regrow give you a colorful Leaf base there of a gray green which will go through most of the winter time and then in the spring away it goes again now Peter summer magic then you've got the salvias and the salvias are brilliant so the first one I've got here is salvia caradonna this is an Emarosa type lovely dark stems a good erect habit gets quite tall and it flowers and flowers and flowers so it started flowering at the bottom of the stems here going right the way up and flowering right the way through at the top good strong plants and it's one of those plants which keeps on giving because once these stems have finished it doesn't look unattractive with those stems but if you look down here there are little pairs of leaves waiting to flower again so you can cut it back down to there once these first ones and it will keep on flowering right the way through I love this particular variety it is really good strong it makes lovely clumps and it's great for the middle of the border to the front of the Border mixed with all sorts of different perennials you then have the half Hardy types of salvias which flower and flower and flower now they are perennial but only in the country of origin so they're not perennial in the UK you'd need to protect this one this is Amistad Amistad has these huge big beautiful dark purple flowers lovely long dark dark calyx is the back here and basically it Just Flowers its heart off once it starts going in the summer it's off okay it's not there in the spring but it's flowering now right the way through till October you can't ask much more of a plant than that sometimes if the winters are not too bad and you mulch it well over the base you can keep it going otherwise put it in a container and have it somewhere where it will go through but that is a cracking plant as well Tall elegant and flowering for a long period what used to be called verbena is now glandularia this is glandularia Seabrooks lavender this is named after a dear old friend of ours Peter Seabrook he was an absolute stallworld for anybody in the British Horticultural industry he really plugs plants and everything else and this is one he found in his garden in Essex it grew on horrible clay really windy sight got cold it is perennial it flowers and flowers and flowers starts flowering probably under May beginning of June and then just re-blooms right the way through the summer it has huge big beautiful lavender colored flowers slightly scented you can just give it a haircut give it a haircut back but it makes quite a large Plant and it's a really good perennial so that is glandularia Seabrooks lavender who can take cuttings from that if you really want to another plant that keeps on going and keeps on giving and this one will take a bit of shade are the estrantia this one happens to be pink pride lots and lots of different breeding out there but the astrantias are brilliant because as you can see on this plant you've got flowers which are starting to fade but they still look good but it's also putting on brand new flour here as well once it's got to a point where it's not looking that tidy you can cut to the level of the foliage and you'll find you'll get far more flour coming through so these flower for a good length of time they're out earlier in the year going on through I think they're fabulous give them a little bit of shade and they're absolutely fine so this one is a strand here pink pride and then I'm going to finish on one of the GMS this is the hybrid gym this is GM Scarlet Tempest and as you can see with this plant we've got beautiful big Scarlet flowers on it here you've got flower stems which are starting don't hit me it's got flower stems which are starting to go over and you've got brand new ones here if you don't like the look of these ones then what you do is you basically hold this stem here and you go to actually that one's still got a flower on it you hold it here you take it right the way down to the bottom and cut it off like so and then you are left with these once these have finished you can do exactly the same but look at all the flour that is coming on here this has been in flour since the end of March it will carry on flowering just re-blooming right the way through giving these wonderful bright red flowers right the way through till October fabulous plants GM Scarlet Tempest so that is just a few of the ones that I have which are longer season and you know you can find other ones but these are ones that I particularly like and they do really well for you thank you very much for watching please do subscribe to the channel
