hi everyone it's bonita from pennies to dollars and today i have six cost saving tips that i'm going to share with you that we use around the house and so if you find value in my videos i would appreciate it if you would like and subscribe and hit the notification bell so you get notified when i have the next video available so let's get started number one i have started using solar bulbs and they are 7 watts and i will drop the link down below but they have a hook where you can hang them you just lay them in the window and they draw the sunshine we use them above our sink we use them on our back porch at night to see to go to the bathroom my husband has even used them to shave so a great investment and i don't know i don't know about you but our electric bill went up crazy after the blackouts because our electric company def decided to divide a 17 million dollar bill they got for the rolling blackouts amongst all of their customers so our business is paying an extra 1200 dollars this year in electricity and our home is paying an extra three hundred dollars a year in electricity so this is one of the ways that we are trying to save money to counteract some of those bills we're getting we also unplug our washing machine we when we are not using it we use it for like a 45 minute cycle and then it sits there for how long another 23 hours a day and so we are unplugging it it's convenient for us to reach that and to do it and so that is one of the ways we are also combating the electric bill the third way that we are doing that is i've moved my office into a room with a lot of windows we use nothing but natural light during the day we don't turn on the lights until we absolutely have to and it has helped a lot in in the fact that i know that i'm not running any electricity during the day and so um i'm excited to see what that's going to do to our electric bill the fourth way that we have started saving money is that we are making our own homemade glass eyeglass cleaner this is so cheap it's probably under 50 cents to make and i bet a bottle of this cost you between 4.99 and 7.99 if you would purchase it all it is is three parts rubbing alcohol one part water and a couple of drips of dish soap and it cleans great grease off your glasses it cleans um hairspray i mean it's just it's the stuff that they sell so feel free to use that recipe and make your own eyeglass cleaner the fifth way that we have started saving money is we of course we've done this all along but we mend our own clothes so if there's a rip in the seam or something like that that can be easily done we try to sit down and we try to mend our own clothes because how many times have you had a stack of mending to do and you go out and you buy something else because you the things that you need are are sitting in that mending pile and so when you're watching tv or or just doing something like that maybe just sit down pull out your needle and thread and mend your own clothes another way that i save money is i re-use envelopes that come with bills in the mail i use them to for shopping lists i use them for drop slot bills if i have to put a bill in the drop slot like for my water bill or something i reuse those envelopes and so that way i'm not using envelopes that i'm having to purchase and one of the other ways that i save money is all the time when the kids were growing up we had back-to-school fashion shows and they hated it but i absolutely loved it and i would have them come through and try on all of their clothes that they had worn the next year and we would check to see if they were too tight too too short legged if they were had had tears or stains or something that they they couldn't wear it to school and of course we always passed on clothes to the other kids if they could wear them but we had days that they would come out and they'd have like a pair of jeans that they just hated and i'd be like those are your saturday pants and saturday pants became a a slang word around our house that those are your saturday pants and they would wear those on the weekends just like my parents did back in the depression era where they had certain clothes for the weekend and certain what clothes during the week only it's kind of reversed because my parents were the good stuff for church and their bad stuff during the week to work because they were farmers and my kids are wearing their good stuff during the week to go to school and then their bad stuff on saturday that no one sees them in so uh feel free to use the saturday pants i would tell them that saturday pants and they were like oh no not saturday pants but they knew that those clothes were the clothes that they were on the weekend to play in the dirt play on the swing set play outside it didn't matter if they got messed up so i hope this has been helpful to you today and if it has please drop a like and remember if you take care of your pennies your dollars will take care of themselves have a wonderful week
