hello friends we live surrounded by thousands of different objects we are pretty much used to them using them is part of our life and we never think that there was a time when things were different but today we're gonna travel in time so let's run to the portal get into Doc's DeLorean or jump into the TARDIS let's take a look at some objects from our ancestors which you wouldn't dare to use [Music] sunglasses today sunglasses are a very common accessory and imagining a world without them seems difficult however the very first sunglasses were very different from those that can now be bought in any store this may seem surprising but they didn't first appear in hot countries but in the regions of the far north our distant ancestors living in these harsh regions had to find ways to protect themselves from the bright sunlight reflecting in the snow and came up with glasses that protected them of course such glass is significantly limited to view but they allowed you to move around the snowy mountains modern eye doctors would probably be horrified if someone seriously decided to use this device for protection from the Sun but what could our ancestors do 2,000 years ago there was not much to choose from besides these glasses make you look alert like you're suspecting everyone is something a useful bonus coal iron before humanity came up with modern irons this useful device went through a lot of changes even in the middle of the last century it was possible to buy irons heated with coal like a real miniature stove hot coals were placed inside the iron and there were holes on the sides for better drought sometimes irons even came with a little chimney can you even imagine an iron with a chimney to be honest we can't and don't forget that the coals would cool down and to make the iron hot again it was necessary to blow into the holes or even swing the device back and forth a heavy metal : that's what we call training bathing machine the rules of etiquette in the 18th and 19th centuries were not easy and you had to follow them in every part of your life for example if you wanted to relax and swim in the sea you had to use special bathing machines which looked like small covered wagons the person in his or her everyday clothes had to enter the cart on the beach changing to a bathing suit and then along with the bathing machine they were lowered into the water with the help of horses popular resorts had rails for this but it didn't make the process less awkward then the bather could go down the stairs into the water and after getting bored he or she could raise a flag to signal their servants and the horse would return to pull the card back to the shore nightcap have you ever noticed that animated characters who are nightcaps when they are going to sleep this is not some animators fantasy to make the characters more likable until the early 20th century night caps were very common especially in the Nordic countries and were used for protection against lice and against the cult of course don't forget that in the houses of that time there was no central heating women on the other hand were special sleeping bonnets but this everyday object from back then today seems like an insanely funny accessory we haven't seen any new analogs in the modern world sleeping baseball cap no thank you still this is not a blunted knife of strange shape and not even an ancient shoe shovel this is soap sort of we're not joking it's difficult to imagine but in the ancient times soap another usual means of hygiene didn't exist and people were forced to come up with some other ways to cleanse the skin so ancient Romans invented this trill a special body scraper well the Gauls could brew a portion of unprecedented power so the Romans had to come up with something most often schedules were made of bronze and kept fast into a small vessel with fragrant oil the whole process of washing looked like this erupt their bodies with the oil and then scraped it would you use this instead of a washcloth ancient Romans did and there were even different strings for different parts of the body clean at all toilet paper after seeing the instruments our ancestors used for cleaning we can expect to find all kinds of toilet paper come on history surprised us come on well surely many people know that the people of some regions used broad leaves of plants for example corn as toilet paper this is quite logical they are roughly similar in shape flat and well it's the best option around but that's not it when digging ancient Greek and Roman toilets archaeologists often found small pebbles with different names on them the purpose of these stones remained unknown for a long time but a few years ago scientists suggested that this was the oldest kind of toilet paper in human history yes dear friends our ancestors wiped their bottoms with stones ouch probably the sensation is not great to avoid injuries the stones were round and the name seemed to belong to the enemies of the owners of the stones it was an ancient revenge using toilet paper that's all for today until next time [Music] [Music]
