what would happen if i did 5k every day for 30 days [Music] i don't want to do it it's actually freezing so what's the reason i'm doing this i used to love a 5k run pushing my mind and body to the limit but then i fell out of love with it we're doing this challenge help me find the love again as i get older my running speeds are getting slower so with doing this every day make me get faster i also found that as i got older my resilience and motivation was starting to dwindle recently i've been experiencing negative internal chat and loads of rubbish excuses not to do stuff i needed to find that resilience again and then during kovid 19 and being at home a lot of the time my daily step count went down to two to three thousand steps a day that is so bad i needed a reason to move my body more get outside and get in the fresh air would this be a good enough reason and finally the catalyst for this challenge was this guy and this video and he did 5k every day for 30 days and his video is brilliant and i'd really recommend watching it and i ended up thinking to myself i'd really like to do that so i did so what were the rules for this 30 day challenge complete 5k every day either run or walk do the distance all in one go at the start of the challenge i measured my body composition which included body weight body fat percentage and muscle mass i also measured the circumference of my waist hips thighs and arms to see if the challenge would make a positive impact on my body composition it's day one and i've successfully procrastinated for three hours there's no more putting it on i just need to put my trainers on and get out the door it's taken me hours to get this far [Music] 5k is such a horrible distance it's short enough to give it some welly but long enough to just be so painful i felt so up for it today i really really loved it it's a beautiful sunny morning outside the first five minutes just felt awful and i just thought to myself why am i doing this but then on the second lap i was just loving it most days i ran the same 5k route which was two loops of my village and doing it that way meant that i could track my progress plus doing two laps added a little bit of extra discomfort because after the first slap i was just 40 meters away from my house and i knew that i'd want to stop i don't want to do it sometimes it's just easier to go rather than all that internal chat i normally done my run four hours ago but i've been putting it off already this early on in the challenge i think that i've got to change my strategy a little bit because yesterday my fitness watch told me that i was pushing too hard thinking about it i can't go out and push hard for half an hour every single day for 30 days so instead i come up with a plan i do a medium effort run on a monday i do intervals or fart lex style training on a wednesday which were short bursts of speed work in amongst the 5k and i do a harder and faster effort on a saturday then on sunday i'd do a 5k walk just to help my body recover from all of that and then the days in between i'd just do a super chilled pace just taking in the views and enjoying it or at least trying to enjoy it feeling quite up for it this morning it's actually freezing as in there's ice on the ground preparing myself for a run saturday's meant to be a big effort day i really don't want to go big effort [Music] i really went for it today i've got over a minute and 15 off doing this every day getting used to the little hills and just accepting that it's going to be pretty miserable but once it's done i just feel so good i have a confession i didn't do my 5k today does that mean i failed the challenge but the reason that i didn't do it was because yesterday i had a migraine and when i woke up this morning i didn't feel great so day 12. i didn't do my 5k i really don't want to go as per usual i've come back feeling pretty good considering how rough that i was feeling when i went out i've got to take my car to the garage so i'm going to drive in and then i'm going to run back and use that as part of my 5k every day this is definitely not a public footpath i'm now running into town to go and collect my car and it is absolutely pouring with rain outside i'm kind of not looking forward to it but i'm really enjoying using my 5k as a method of transport this morning was a morning where i felt really quite rubbish but within two kilometers i can just feel this weight and that negative feeling just disappearing when i really don't want to run is when i really need to run i haven't enjoyed a 5k that much in ages [Music] i'm always amazed with even though there's that resistance of not really wanting to go actually once i'm out out in the fresh air i just get back and it just makes me feel so good it is it's like medicine there's not been one day so far where i've got back from the 5k and i thought to myself i wish i hadn't have done that in fact it's quite the opposite i've always got back and i've thought i'm so pleased i've done that how is it that even though i know it's going to make me feel better i still really don't want to go out of the 30 days i did 5k every day for 29 of those days which i'm pretty proud of so i'll leave it to you guys to decide if it was a success or not and although i didn't do this challenge to change the way my body looked the physical effects were quite interesting at the start of the challenge i was 62.5 kilograms and at the end i was 61.65 kilograms which was a difference of 0.85 kilograms but more insightful and useful than that was at the start of the challenge my body fat percentage was 29.2 and by the end it was 27.2 that's a difference of 2 and with that i also had an increase in muscle mass of 0.5 kilograms most of that was on my legs the measurements of my waist hips thighs and arms stayed the same however it was nice to see a reduction in body fat and an increase in muscle mass a few other benefits from doing this was that my metabolic age dropped by four years and my visceral fat which is the amount of fat around my organs also decreased anyway this challenge in this video wasn't about me losing weight it was about training my mind and my body so let's get back to the original reasons i did this did i fall in love with 5k again i finally found my love for running again and one thing i've realised since doing this challenge you can't make yourself like something that you don't want to like but if you do want to like it and you want to get better at it then it's really important to do it frequently by doing this challenge i found that love again and it feels so nice did i get faster at the start i ran the course in 26 minutes and 46 seconds on day 9 i ran it in 25 minutes and 34 seconds and i felt so good about what would happen over the 30 days and then day 30 arrived and i was so up for it i was totally up for getting a course personal best the final day and i'm gonna go for it it's horrible i literally gave that everything gave it everything the time i ran on day 30 was [Music] 25 minutes [Music] and 43 seconds nine seconds slower than my previous best effort i've gotta admit i was pretty disappointed but that was my second best time throughout the whole challenge so i suppose i ought to be pleased once again this was me just being a little bit naive and thinking that i could achieve so much in such a short space of time did it build resilience i've come to accept certain circumstances like the weather the wind the rain whether i'm tired and also accept the fact that i just need to get out and do it by doing it every day it's just become part of my daily routine it just become a thing it was something that i did much like brushing my teeth or doing the laundry yes it's boring but it needed to be done the daily steps and fresh air i feel so good for doing this i genuinely wonder how i ever managed without doing this doing this challenge gave me a great reason to get 30 minutes of fresh air and daylight and if i wasn't getting daylight then at least i saw things like this and one more thing before i go i've realized through making this video what a privilege it is to be able to do 5k every day for 30 days i put on my fancy running kit and my trainers i have a fit and healthy body with enough fuel and a safe neighborhood to go running what a privilege if a challenge like this takes your fancy then i'd say just go for it whether you walk or run just get out because ultimately the time will pass anyway and it's better to do this rather than this i really hope that you've enjoyed this video i really enjoyed making it and you know i wouldn't be doing any of these challenges if it wouldn't be for making a video and having you guys watch it so i'd like to take this opportunity to say thank you i have done some other similar challenges and i've got some really cool fitness and well-being product reviews coming up soon so if you're into stuff like that then consider hitting the subscribe button i'll put some other videos up on screen right now that i think that you might like and as always thank you very much for watching i think it's better to just get up get out of bed and get it done because i haven't got that feeling of doom looming over my head
