[Music] hello my name is Davis klebanov and I'm a leader in Cisco Sdn technical marketing organization today we're going to talk about a cloud and in this particular presentation we're going to talk about SAS applications software as a service applications so cloud plays a very important key role within Cisco Sdn the ability to route the traffic towards those popular SAS applications such as office 365 Dropbox Box Salesforce it's imperative for businesses to be able to conduct in control user experience so let's take a look in this particular presentation we're going to focus on three areas we're going to talk about the solution overview just to set the baseline of what this cloud on-ramp for SAS is about then we're going to dive into the solution details and at the end we're going to provide guidance around configuration steps that are needed on the V managed in order to execute on the cloud on-ramp process let's talk about the solution overview so what are we after in many current environments remote sites data centers some regional hubs regional offices campuses and the wide area network is disconnected from the SAS applications the rich ability for the users towards the SAS application and if we look at the SAS applications by for office 365 is the most popular SAS application that we see out there so the connectivity of users to office 365 is normally achieved today through going from the remote offices into the data and out into the office 365 through internet so what's wrong with this approach well obviously as organizations are migrating their mail system if we're talking about office 365 from sometimes an on-prem deployment in the data centers to the cloud deployments with office 365 we are now adding this additional latency of communication to office 365 from the data center backhauling to the data center then taking the internet path towards the office 365 through this additional means of communication so latency is a big is a big element of of why the adoption of those cloud SAS applications and office 365 as we mentioned one of the most popular ones could be challenging for for organizations so when we think about this office 365 where does it really reside when we say cloud what is actually cloud for us so when we say cloud cloud is loosely comparable to Internet so the question of how do I get access how they get the most efficient access from users at the remote offices into the office 365 application boils down to the fact is how can I access internet in the most efficient way that asks the next question is where is the Internet which way is the cloud is that a direct internet access for some organizations they are ok with Dia and sometimes it's a security conversation but they are ok with Dia for so they use data centers as the backhoe this was the original conversation we had some have adopted the regional breakouts what does it mean they have allowed internet connectivity from specific places within their network that are not quite all the way in the data centers but they could be in original hub or Cola facilities in this case the communication would go like this so you see you have options the question is how do you make sure that the connectivity between users and the office 365 is the most optimal is it the DIA is it the original hub is it the data center how do you make sure that you monitor the performance across all the available paths and how do you make sure that you steer the traffic automatically dynamically quick between the multiple paths as conditions degrade or as the path becomes unavailable for example my dia may be preferred however I may start having degradation on the dia and I want to actually take the original hub my second preferred option under normal circumstances I would want to do dia only but because of the degraded performance latency is spiking up loss is being incurred on the last mile ISP connection I want to make sure that I can back off through the Sdn fabric or the when fabric into the regional hub and get there so measuring the performance is important and a measure and steer and lastly report on it provide the visibility of what has just happened measure the performance steer cordon lis provide visibility and reporting what just happened if we can make all of this three happen dynamically zero touch just set it up once and let it go we will achieve the goals of providing a better user experience when consuming those popular cloud applications that is exactly where cloud on-ramp for SAS comes to the rescue so what are the two scenarios that we mainly identify for the a cloud on-ramp for SAS so the first scenario is this one do all I speak connections so this is the case where I have dia so the customer has decided that they are ok with doing direct Internet access from the remote office through two different ISPs into the cloud now we want to make sure that we have the three things that we mentioned we want to make sure that we measure it we make sure that we steer in case something goes wrong and we want to make sure that we have the visibility into what just happened through reporting so this is the first case to dia connections to ISPs choose the better one the second option is I have one dia connection which is ISP one but I also have something which we call the Gateway connection so what exactly is a gateway connection if you recall we talked about the regional hub it's not quite the data center that is all the way out there that may have longer or higher latency for communication between the remote site but it's a something that is regionalised and internet connections that are regionalised potentially by city metro area geography continent whatnot the whatever regionalization schema is chosen but this is sort of like a midway between the remote sites and the data centers so I can steer the traffic either dia or through this gateway entity as you can see in this gateway entity many times it connected through MPLS here but obviously can also use internet it is an SD one fabric after all so whatever means I have to use to have between this remote site and this gate will patient and then through this gateway location get out so as you can see two models strictly dia or a mixture between dia and the Gateway you could think about a third model which is a little bit less popular but you could think about a scenario where there is no dia and there are multiple hubs this was hub 1 hub 2 and I can choose between multiple hubs to get out think about this is a third scenario not very popular mostly we see is the either completely dia connections or a mix of a dia and some sort of a gateway site lastly we mentioned about reporting so measuring is important steering is important measuring is also important because you as an administrator or you as somebody who manages this network you want to see what is actually happening and how this cloud on-ramp for SAS feature is actually performing for that inside the V manage we have the representation of the health of those popular SAS applications as you can see office 365 activated at multiple sites multiple devices are participating in this setup and then we have this color-coded representation of how well that application performs through a specific exit point because because we mentioned there may be more than one exit point and most likely there is more than one exit point and you want more than one exit point so you can choose the better performing one and in case the degradation occurs automatically failover to the other one as you can see we color code it and we provide what's called quality of experience score for every single exit point in this particular case we have the two remote sites and we have a hub and we have a representation of how well the application performs obviously it may not be very realistic screenshot in here in in the realistic environment you would have more sites and they are not necessarily going to be score of 10 there may be lower scores as different conditions it happen but you do have this full application quality of experience reporting right there in the V manage tool in order to keep an eye on how the how those exit points are behaving in the context of that particular application we even tell you in a human language the range of bad average and good on the score from one to ten you
