[Applause] [Music] hey how's it going welcome to episode 116 of an ongoing series where we basically take the camera anywhere we want and we try to find secrets and new discoveries to some of our favorite games I know a lot you guys wanted this one I just want to preface a couple things real quick one this camera was made by T&N also known as that Nintendo nerd thank you so much for making this camera tool Sarah I appreciate it and another quick thing is that there are some limitations to this camera so if there's things that you're thinking to yourself like oh man why didn't you cover that trust me I would have wanted to but there's certain things that just don't allow for it but you know what even with limitations in minds there's still a lot to cover here so strap in get comfy and let's go all right I'm gonna do something a little bit different this time around I'm gonna put all the character stuff in one category and you're gonna see it all right now and then after everything I found is said and done I'm gonna move on over to stages so if you only want to see stages for whatever reason you can just skip to this timestamp here for your convenience anyways when it comes to what is new and discoverable in Super Smash Brothers ultimate it's a little bit thin because so much of it is really literally ported over from super smash brothers for Wii U and you will see some evidence for that later on this episode but with that said there was a lot of characters that came back for the first time in a long time and there was a couple characters that are brand-new entirely and the first one I want to talk about is Banjo and Kazooie I think a lot of people want to know how kazooie works in the backpack well believe it or not the way that kazooie works is almost the same as it was back on the Nintendo 64 now what I did here was that I paused the game just before an animation starts and what you're going to be looking at here is how kazooie's handled frame by frame so for example at the startup of this frame you can see a little bit of kazooie peeking out of the backpack now when you take the camera inside of the backpack at this moment you could see that kazooie's head is shrunk down all the geometry that you can't see because it's inside the backpack it's crunched in and shrunk down SuperDuper small and the reason why they do this is so that the character model doesn't believe through the backpack itself it wouldn't look very nice and each frame of that animation has a certain amount of the briegel body resize to normal size well then I'm sure a lot of you are wondering what is cos do we look like when there are no animations involving her well you take the camera inside and you'll see that she completely disappears this is very likely because the character model is set to value zero which means that when the character is at a null value it's completely invisible to the human eye and what you're left with inside this backpack is concave geometry on both the top and the bottom and that's because the developers intended for you to only see a shallow death to the backpack and that remains the same whether you open it up from the front Ward's back which does happen next up is Inklings feet yeah hey look it's just a weird thing okay I don't know how to explain why this is here none of the characters wear sandals in Super Smash Brothers ultimate as far as I can recall this may be because this is a character model that's ported over from splatoon it's very possible but if you were to take the camera inside of the Inklings shoes you can find the Inklings feet which are not fully detailed they're just kind of like nubbins and I realize that you're not getting a great look at these feet because of the fact that we have to get the camera just right inside the shoe so taking the same character in a model viewer allows us to remove the shoes entirely giving you a much better look at those feet and while we're in character viewers as well you can see that for whatever reason cables belly armor is fully textured underneath it now there isn't really a reason for this I understand that his armor does crack but it never completely shatters so what you're looking at here is something that the player is never meant to see and we can also remove Wolf's eyepatch here once again I could move the camera inside the eye patch like you're seeing here as evidence of the fact but being able to remove that geometry that represents the eye patch gives you a much better look at the fact that for whatever reason the developers took the time to make sure that wolf did not have an eye underneath that eye patch but and eyelid which in a previous video that I've covered is always the case most of the time they do just give them that eye next up we have Roy coming back from super smash brothers for Wii U and you'll see that his pouches are held together by something but it's kind of hard to see what it is exactly think of the camera inside the pouch so reveals that it's a fully modeled pin well that's a little more elaborate than you would think not to show off a couple things that are not interesting but I know a lot of people would be asking about it one of which being does Captain Falcon have eyes again because in the Super Smash Brothers Brawl episode it turned out that he did have a single eye in this unfortunately no and also there's this rumor going around that there's a blue texture for sans I so I took the camera inside the character model to find out for sure tested a bunch of various animations but as you're seeing here inside of every single conceivable animation that I could come up with to check for this there was no blue texture so sorry guys and also just to show you two amis hand is not inside of that gun when you pick the meat gunner but Isabelle and villager still has that throw with the net and they had some very hilarious results in the EU episode so I figured we'd short off again except with new characters like Ridley and King K rool I picked these two in particular because they're much larger characters and when they are larger characters there's a lot more you have to hide so instead of just a person's head or whatever you got lots and lots of the character model shrunk down to make it work and then we got a character that I didn't cover in the original super smash bros wiiu episode so it makes sense to cover it now somebody on Twitter asks what happens when pac-man goes into ball form and that was a great question because when you take the camera inside a pacman mostly animation the limbs go into size value zero but for the first few frames of these animations you can see that the limbs as well as the holders for the limbs get sucked inside the body as well as shrunken down and surprisingly the position of these limbs is kind of all over the place it's not uniform at all and then we got a viewer request from John at GameXplain at one point we had a discussion about Hiro on their channel and John threw me a wild-card question asking me just how much is Munchie modeled inside of Eight's pocket from the Dragon Quest series and I offered a theory back then and it wasn't entirely wrong there is a little bit more to Munchie model than meets the eye but of course the entire body of munchy is not modelled for this character because it's just a static model of no animations attached to him but for whatever reason part of his right leg is still modelled and it extends itself a little bit to his left side but he doesn't get to have his left leg this portion of munchy can't be seen by the player though it clips through a bottom portion of AIT's pocket and lastly before we move on to the stages I want to talk about piranha plan so as you know these little feet pop out of Piranha Plants pot say that by times fast and unlike most of the characters in the roster if you take the camera inside on a plant when he's not running you can see his little feet stored inside as well as a lot of extra body mass that once again is never shown naturally when so much stuff is jumbled up inside here I want to show you a much better look of it in the model viewer so here you go [Music] all right now we're gonna be talking about stages the first stage we're going to talk about is to persona stage and there's two things that are worth talking about one is that there's this backdrop here and you'll see that nothing back here is a 3d object if you look at it from another angle you can see that all these things are just 2d cardboards even the train itself which looks all animated nice-looking that's also a 2d cardboard but in the foreground there are trains that are going off across the stage and when you look at the trains coming in and out it'll look like that it's just kind of coming out of a portal when you're playing in game but in reality they're spawning way before that and it's masked by a tube of the same color taking the camera at this angle shows that when it's cast against something that's not a bright blue it's much easier to see the outline of these tubes that these trains travel through seeing as the stage uses very little gradients so there's a neat little trick to try to hide the Train and I guess from one JRPG to another we can start talking about Dragon Quest now when you start the stage there's a specially made environment just for the start it's a much higher detail than anything else you're going to see here once it leaves this spot though that's when you start to see all the entire overworld map and that overworld map is all low poly all very low level of detail if I was to take the camera on just a little bit close up to anything it's not gonna look pretty but it's still very impressive how much of this is all rendered at once despite the fact that there is a lot of detail to any of these environments it's the quality over quantity effect and the quantity is so massive here that I can't even move the camera far enough back to show you all of it and I think you're really going to appreciate just how massive this is when we switch over to the breadth of the wild stage you think maybe it's the same deal it's not so with the breadth of the wild stage we have the great plateau of course and that environment doesn't stretch out very far at all although it's funny because a lot of this environment that you're seeing here is very difficult to see when you're playing a game but moving the camera outside the boundary shows you that it's all an elaborate hoax just outside the great plateau is a sky dome to represent the rest of the world and it's done in such an expert fashion that you can't help but appreciate it because without over analyzing it I was pretty convinced I thought that it was just a complete carryover from breath of the wild and also fun to know even the areas that are 3d are also very low detail take a look at this garden over here look at how soft the textures are on this thing and speaking of zeldo why don't we go to Gerudo Valley now this was a 3ds stage to start but one of the most beautiful things about Super Smash Bros ultimate is that there was all these transfers from the 3ds version to this new version now with main console graphics so while I was explaining all that obviously what you got to see was a zoom out of Karuna valley but you might have noticed over here that there is a garuda hideout way off in the distance it looks like it might be a port actually from the 3ds it's hard to say for sure there's a lot of details here that you couldn't see by just moving the camera around normally in game there's lots of doorways that aren't even fully modeled which proves that it's outside of the player's view but the doorways are there for some reason and then also one other thing I want to take a look at is inside that tent here's what it looks like to move the camera around right inside of it not a whole lot of details to look at but still kind of interesting I also wanted to cover this because the guy did a whole lot of work clearly and I loved it I personally loved it it's the boundary break stage really quick first of all if you want to download the meat or the stage here are the two codes right here and we're taking a look at this customized boundary break stage because the fan who made it also put in a little bit of a boundary break of their own taking the camera over to the right of the logo outside of the game's boundaries shows you the she says mascot in stage builder form thank you so much sea bass six three one three nine two seven four you know over here we have the Kid Icarus stage from the 3ds version oh this is kind of cool because couple things first of all verita is not a 3d model surprisingly it's a cardboard cutout of an animated 3d model if that makes sense so if we took the camera and moved it to the side you'll see that there's no 3d depth to the character somebody in house and has a 3d model animated it and then composed an animation from it to save on resources also during stage transition you can see that the stage just completely drops underneath and it hangs there for a little while before the stage finally does transition and while it's going for that transition as well you can see that there is a Half Dome of pure white that is until get to the aftermath of the reset bar and of course I wanted to give you a zoom out of the aftermath of the reset bomb because it's such a elaborate looking environment and then for majus ant or magic ant depending on how you want pronounce it a lot of people are very sure that's magic ant so I guess we'll call it that there is this very common little piece of trivia now that's floating around that brick road is inside of the dungeon man in this version which is really cool and I wanted to show you that just in case you never knew about it but we got to take it one little step further since this is boundary break after all and when you take the camera pass brick roads face you can see that his face kind of stretches inward to give it that sense of depth but there's a lot of that texture that's hidden behind the dungeon man wall so his faces a lot like a button here they ask for magic can't itself want to just take it down to ground level because a lot of you have probably earthbound fans like me and obviously magic can't on the NES for mother 1 its 8-bit and to see it come alive like this in 3d once-in-a-lifetime opportunity self wanted to show you what it would look like if you were down on the ground walking around in Majesty I can't really move around that well but here we'll look around in the VR mode and then here's something interesting about Omega forms now I looked at a lot of Omega forms and the most interesting thing that I saw was that the 2d stages the ones that usually turn your characters completely flat are housed in a giant box for the Omega versions this Sigma is the mr. Game & Watch stage as well as the Gameboy Kirby stage while we're inside of the Kirby stage when we take a look at the normal version and see how that looks from another angle you'll notice that all the platforms do have their own sense of 3d depth and that the gameboy screen doesn't really go out all that far now we got term in a bay now there's something going on here that's for sure first of all look off in the distance there you'll see a heart piece kind of cool but you are intended to see that so what is something here that you're not intended to see well first of all there's one thing that's kind of disappointing in the melee episode of boundary break there was this complete unused interior for the lab and it was really interesting stuff unused content but in Super Smash Brothers ultimate there is none here it's completely gutted out it makes me believe that this was completely made from the ground up I don't believe that the developers had any way of just porting over melee assets to smash ultimate unlike probably Super Smash Brothers Brawl and super smash brothers for Wii U but because things are made from the ground up there's all new things to see one of which being the Giants beat and I swear I already know what a lot of you are already typing in the comment section this is not intentional by any means I've never had to show off so many feet on the show before but it literally is three different cases where there are a completely unique feat that's completely barred off to the players perspective so it's just my duty to show you I don't mean me too hard please anyways moving on now we're checking out o net or on it or hunt or what I like to say o net it sounds nice now this stage has travelled some ways but for the first time ever out of all the versions of Super Smash Brothers that's appeared in this is the only time that the excavator over here has some level of 3d depth to it before it was always a 2d texture like you're seeing here but now although not modeled on all sides and not done with a certain level of care that some other things get it still shares some depth so that when you move the camera around it's less obvious that it's a cardboard cutout here's something a little bit disappointing for you there is no rice ball behind the basket again that's something that was shown in the melee episode of boundary break but the developers decide to remove you here which is a common theme that I'm noticing and I'm gonna just throw out a speculation I think that the developers didn't want someone like me to have content to show to all of you I think they've tried to clean the ship up as nicely as possible but since we're already many many minutes into this episode clearly there's still stuff to show like for example the license plate on the back of the runaway five bus nothing's shown on that plate but this is the first time that there is a plate on a runway five bus before in every other single version there was none at all here and brynn star depths we have kraid and we can see when he gets spawned in and also show you his feet I am so sorry no more feet I there is no more feet to show but I'm also mad that I'm showing you so many feet anyways done moving on the garden of hope is definitive evidence if you were ever skeptical of the idea that the developers ported over assets from older games this is 100% proof that the developers at least ported some stuff over the garden of hope in the smash 4 episode of boundary break showed off a relic of a mistake and that was that they set the environment too low and had to hodgepodge a fix to make a drain visible within the stage here in smash ultimate that same mistake remains there is this relic here that shows where the old drain was supposed to be and then the developers obviously implemented into the game and said to themselves well the player can't see it so what can we do to fix that and then they fixed it by just carving a hole higher up on the environment that same mistake carries over to this little concave area over onto the left as well meanwhile here's an example of adjusted assets once again the developers being a little bit concerned about the fact that players might recognize that these soldiers over here would be 2d they decided to change it because they had more resources to work with and so now all the soldiers are 3d models in the background here the only issue is that with the Super Smash Brothers Brawl episode of boundary break you could see by moving the camera all the way back there that the person sitting in the throne was the Black Knight himself this time however the Black Knight is gone took place now with a 3d model but that 3d model is just a generic red knight I have to wonder if it was an intentional move to get rid of the Black Knight or if the developers didn't even realize it was the Black Knight sitting there in the first place and now we're checking out venom this is a melee stage coming back now for the first time in a long time and inside of the great Fox is this black cube now at first I speculated that this cube was mapped to the grey fox which it may still be but it certainly has at least an extra function to it if anything and that extra function or only function is to control the arwings movements because when the arwing does a barrel roll in the stage you'll see here that the cube moves itself the cube also does say barrel roll Pepe would be so proud now this last one was a very popular viewer request for some reason and as always you can follow me on Twitter so that you can give me some suggestions yourself I try to cover everything that would be remotely interesting so give it a shot something you recommend might end up in the episode but the requests this summer always just take another look at the bridge of Eldon I don't know why but here's something really interesting about it again I thought it would be a one-for-one carryover but it's not quite if you look at the Hyrule Castle you can see that it's a lot more cleaned up because in the brawl episode all of the pillars and spires came to a cone at the bottom cone that the player would never be able to see but the technique there is that if you caught the camera at a certain angle chances are this game would be able to pick up on that mistake because it over compensated with the cone now I guess they're just a lot more confident this time so they they don't have cones it's really cool all right here's rainbow cruise once again the highlight of the last episode which you had its premiere was this little village in the back here now because of the limitations the camera wasn't able to get the best look of the houses this time around but I will tell you this it's a lot less detail that's for sure they for whatever reason just kind of downsize on the houses and made the details a lot more basic I mean I guess it makes sense the players not really going to see all the details anyway and I suppose that's good enough you know because if the players not gonna see it there's no sense in putting that much work into it but there was something that was really odd here I found this one red triangle and you should be able to find this yourself if you move the camera around in game but just by a stroke of luck I found this red triangle and it stays with the stage at all times so it doesn't stick around in that one place that I found it it travels with the players for the entire duration of the match now I had theories and all those theories failed me the biggest one of which is I thought maybe this was tied to the arrow that points down towards the end of the cycle of this stage but I found that this red triangle stays there even when the red arrow starts pointing down so why it's here is still a total mystery then on the Luigi's Mansion end of things once again ties into my theory that the developers didn't want us to find anything fun or interesting unless they intended you to find it and I say that because for the Super Smash Brothers Brawl episode you could find a texture of boo underneath the crib this time around that boo texture is gone although when you move the camera behind the mansion you can see the support beams that get used in the breaking animation this is something that wasn't visible in the original episode speaking of horrifying houses here's the Nintendogs house moving the camera out just doing a zoom out for you shows that it has a mass environment outside of the boundaries I just recently did a 3d s episode so you can compare and contrast just how much more detail the developers decided to put into this environment for something once again not really well seen by the player they could easily made this a 2d texture because you can't really get the depth that is shown here with the camera that's available to the player now here's some fun step for you the results screen we managed to get this turned into a playable stage and when you do you can see there's a lot of detail here a time railey it seriously like a ton and there's also a hidden detail that's never seen by the player very cool stuff that detail of course is that those buildings in the background though they may be 2d textures also have blue crystals underneath them this usually gets covered up by the clouds that are peeking off in the front but taking the camera out now can show you all the details that were hidden from you this entire time and then we got the home run contest well I gotta say this is a total mess and I do apologize for this I didn't make the game but here's what happens right there's a blue sky dome for where you start and I think when you hit the sandbag that blue sky dome is programmed to disappear and unfortunately with the tools and resources that I have here we have the blue sky dome included with the texture to represent space everything here is enormous and one things that I was really surprised about was that the stone pathway that the sandbag travels with extends way way further than I ever imagined that it would in past games it would load in chunks and those chunks would be rather small here it's almost all loaded at once very interesting and just to make sure I got all my bases covered here here's a great look of everything all at once the space the pathway everything it's a lot to take in and again with sky dome it's not very pretty but I want you to see this because it's really interesting to see something so elaborate and so cool in game taking apart like this to show you how all the cogs are spinning together then moving on from there we gonna go to four sides four sides really awesome first of all we have the spaceship interior here for some reason and this wasn't in the melee if you take the camera inside of the Cloe tractor beam I guess you can see concave geometry which is really neat and very trippy to look at and then there's something that's hidden and played in sight I've always been very confused by this this is not in the original version this was added to Super Smash Brothers alternate it's a building with a moon emblem in the background I was looking at it and I was singing myself like what the heck is that but yeah taking it really close up to that emblem shows you that it's it's a moon that's not something that was ever in earthbound but it it sure is here right now but then again also for side was never at night in earthbound there was moon side but there it wasn't for side one thing that they also added and it's really cool and once again you can see this for yourself as the player it's a bunch of apartment rooms and unfortunately all these apartment rooms have basically the same interior so showing you one in another not that interesting again you can get the best look here with the mana Thole building this is obviously supposed to be my tollis office but it's again not modeled in such a way that it's one for one with mana tollis office it's just bright and yellow like his office so still you get to see all the stuff here all at once and in a nice comfortable breathable environment thought this was a great addition I hope that when they remix stages in future games they continue to do stuff just like this then we're gonna talk about banjo-kazooie oh man who's excited about Banjo and Kazooie and smash I know I am not really great with them but you know what can you do anyways I love the stage spiral Mountain and I wanted to show you guys a couple things that are really neat to me I found that the detail on banjos house to be excellent and again so far away from the players point of view but they put a lot of work into this they really did and also the one up is a full 3d model never had to be and never was in the original game and with the distance in which it is you could have pulled a Verity why not it was far enough but no it's it's a full 3d model of the one up statute and then here's the close-up of all the main cast they put a lot of detail into these characters so much so that soccer I had to steal my job for a second and show you 2d in his own intended direct soccer I call me sometime let's collab but one of the things he didn't really show you is just how detailed 2d really is because when you take the camera all the way up to the character model you'll see that the fur on her he's really well detailed and the same can be said for mumbo-jumbo and the same can be said for bottles bottles by the way has always had tiny eyes on the character model and then it's a texture of large eyes on the glasses themselves here in Super Smash Brothers ultimate however they did not go that route there are no tiny eyes in bottles face in fact there's just eyesockets and then I also wanted to show you a beautiful close-up of gruntilda this is almost one for one with how the model looked on the box for banjo-kazooie and it just makes my heart swoon just hope that someday we can get a remastered version of banjo kazooie because I think it would do really well and it would certainly make me at one happy man and that concludes it my friends I'm gonna take a tour of the battlefield and final destination well I talked it out with you and you know what if I feel unsatisfied with how much detail I showed you in both those stages after I did my whole spiel I'm just gonna keep the footage running until you see everything there is to say hey recognize this face if you're going to retro Palooza in Texas you can definitely google all the details if you're not all the way caught up but if you're going to retro Palooza I should be having a panel there and I should be there you guys get to decide what I look at I'm gonna probably do Super Smash Brothers Brawl and melee as well so please come to the panel please approach me if you see me out there - I'm a bit of a shy person but believe it or not I love meeting the fans either way so I hope that you can totally spot me and find me and have a conversation with me that'd be cool also wanted to say that I'm in an episode of angry video game nerd james rolfe is the the person who's inspired me to essentially do youtube videos so this has been like a dream come true for me also really quick I just want to mention the person who made the camera for the footage for that cameo was codename gamma so obviously if you want to support codename gamma we have links to his Twitter account down below as well as his YouTube channel and gamma thank you so much for making this possible honestly and lastly I want you guys to decide what the next episode is going to be here on YouTube I'm a little bit conflicted I don't know if I'm falling into a trap where you know I make the episode and nobody watches it but people are expressing an interest for the untitled game so I'm gonna have that as an option as well as two others that seem a little bit more safe and I want you guys to decide what it will be that I'll be making so be excited about that and I'm excited to see what you guys think anyways I'm gonna take off again thank you so much for watching and I will check you guys out in the next coming weeks take care [Music] [Applause] [Music] you
