Got kind of a spooky vibe going on today I was just thinking about Halloween It's coming Hey friends, Ginny Di here And a few months ago in a video where I was talking about DM'ing I talked about how I ask my players character builder questions before each session With the group that I DM, every session I give them a question before we start the session that's like a character builder question The goal of these questions is to just get everybody thinking in character and to give them an opportunity to explore and develop their characters in different ways than what they've been able to do so far at the table during role-play The goal isn't for these questions to be big character defining questions Like what's your biggest fear, or what's your goal in life? Those are the bones These questions are for building up the flesh The details that take a character from an outline to something closer to a living breathing person When I talked about this, I got a ton of comments asking me to share a list of questions So full disclosure, the main reason that it took me this long to actually do it Is that I have a much more complicated cooler plan for presenting these kinds of questions on video But, I figured why not do both, toss out some questions now to get you started, and then dig a little deeper in future videos Speaking of tabletop gaming, this video is sponsored by Protect the Caravan, who just launched a Kickstarter for these ridiculously cute dice potions Basically, they're just pretty dice Just pretty dice? Dismissive, when we all know that dice are happiness polyhedrals Packaged in little potion bottles They're even labeled with which potion they are, like water breathing which I of course had to get because... Obviously There are 16 different potion colors and honestly, they are all just straight up beautiful You can store or display them in their little bottles, and the packaging also just makes them a super cute gift... or a DM bribe -Okay, and I get advantage on that saving throw. Right? -What? No, why would you get advantage? -I'm, sorry. I was unclear, I get advantage on that saving throw, right? -Oh, yes advantage Right *Wink* A single potion is twelve dollars pretty standard for acrylic dice But there are discounts when you pledge for more potions I will link to the Kickstarter in the description. It ends on September 11th, so don't wait to make your pledge Today I have for you 50 questions to help develop your tabletop character in ways that you might not have thought of yet These are in second person. So you should answer them from the perspective of your character I'm, not gonna leave awkward Dora the Explorer style space for you to answer So I would suggest pausing the video after each question so you have time to answer Do you see Swiper? [Awkward pause] Is he in range for fireball? [Awkward pause] ¡Muy bien! Of course, you don't have to answer all of them But I think it's a good exercise to try and round out your character traits Think of this as an interview with your tabletop character Are you a morning person or more of a night owl? What's the first thing you notice about a person when you meet them? You see a huge spider in your room. What do you do? If you could go back and change one decision you made in the past. What would you change? Tell me about your first kiss. Do you give people second chances? Are you a cat person or a dog person? Do you think you're attractive? What's your worst habit? When was the last time you cried? Are you a good liar? What's your biggest pet peeve? Have you ever had your heart broken? Are you more likely to use your fists or your words in an argument? What's something you're naturally good at? What's something you had to work hard to be good at? Can you tell when someone is flirting with you? Do you think money can buy happiness? Do you believe in destiny? Are you a good cook? What do you think happens after you die? Did you have to grow up fast? Who do you look up to? When you go to a tavern, what do you order? What do you like most about yourself? What do you like least about yourself? Do you want kids someday? Are you a planner or more spontaneous? Can you keep a secret? Do you like being the center of attention? If you knew you were going to die tomorrow, what would you do today? Do you enjoy getting all dressed up for a special occasion? Where do you feel safe? Do you love or hate being alone? What's the last nightmare you remember having? Do you admit to mistakes when you make them? Do you want to grow up to be like your parents? How do you deal with being sick? Are you stoic or super whiny? What did your parents expect from you when you were born? Do you have a strong sense of style? Would you rather camp outdoors or stay the night in an inn? Is there a food that most people like that you absolutely hate? Are you more of a hoarder or a minimalist? Are you superstitious? Are you the kind of person who remembers people's birthdays and pets names and stuff? What do you do to feel better when you're sad? Is it hard for you to trust someone? Are you susceptible to peer pressure? If you decided to stop adventuring and settle down what kind of job would you take? As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? And that's 50! I will link a document with a list of the questions in the description in case you would prefer them in written form That whole thing just sounded like you're hearing 50% of a first date If you found this helpful, please let me know I was thinking it might be fun to make another version of the same kind of list But with more out of character questions, like: If your tabletop character went to high school, what kind of clique would they be in? Stuff like that Let me know what you think in the comments and stay tuned because I have another tabletop themed video coming at you next week The closer we get to Halloween, the spookier. I tend to dress, I'm like a seasonal goth
