5 Tips I Wish I Knew 10 Years Ago

being a lawn and homeowner can be difficult and stressful and the last thing you want to worry about is your lawn can't have anyone so I've come up with the five things that I wish I knew as a first time home owner and a first time lawn owner let's go okay what's up everybody I started my lawn Journey back in 2013 uh we got our first house I had a pool we didn't like the pool because it had a ton of Maintenance so we actually buried it and then we filled it in we smoothed it out we put sod down all new irrigation that's when I kind of fell in love with taking care of the lawn now here it is 10 years later and I actually have a YouTube channel and I have some people asking me what to do with their lawn so I figured I'd come up with a good five best habits or five best things I wish I knew when I started Lawn Care the five principles of lawn care five tips that you can take with you that really change the way I viewed um yard work and the way I viewed how to deal with my yard and trust me I am no expert so this is this is not a YouTube channel like I'm an expert and this is exactly what you should do because most of the stuff I do I just Google search before I do it anyways and make sure that it's okay and then like anybody I watch uh Lawn Care nut and Lawn whisper and lawn tools and all those guys and make sure that what I'm doing is correct you know Joe Rogan's like oh I'm just an idiot just sitting here talking to people the dude's actually Wicked smart I mean like I'm an idiot like I'm kind of an idiot I feel like what what Center for ants that's why I'm gonna try and make this as simple as possible for you five steps it's like a five-step program that's like the most basic program you can do so here's the five steps that you should adopt in your habits and it will make you a lot better and a lot easier at lawn care and let's get to work all right okay number one one and two can be flip-flopped you can debate it but number one water is King I Feel This is a royal family I guess the the water would be the King right and I know a lot of people are going to say well I have restrictions and I have bad well and I don't have bad irrigation and whatnot everybody knows nobody cares water is going to be your main reason why your grasses is doing good or bad you've got to get an inch to an inch and a half of water on your lawn that is important if you're a sprinkler Chaser or hose Runner you just got to get some kind of timer system to make it easy for you at the at the faucet turns on in the mornings and then you got to move it accordingly and set up a whole system I did that for I did that for a long time so I I know I feel you guys pain out there I finally moved into a house that has in-ground irrigation it's a game changer so if you have the chance to do it you should definitely do it water is your king So number two which would be your queen which would be Mowing and like I said before it could be flip-flops so water Mowing and debatable because I know that there's a lot of water restrictions out there if you're trying to mow like once a week maybe once every other week and you're waiting for your grass to get super tall we've all heard the one-third rule you're breaking it and that's going to stress out your grass the most I always emphasized to the people who ask try and mow twice a week that is minimum I try and mow four five times a week six sometimes I'll try and mow every morning before work the reason why I'm doing that is because I mow low and then I'm trying not to break the one third rule to stress out my grass Queen number two your number two would be mowing okay number three which would be the jack queen king queen Jack your jack would be fertilized four times a year it's not that hard four times is not very many times holiday schedule Memorial Day weekend Fourth of July Labor Day and then somewhere around Halloween so those are your four times two your basic times to fertilize that's going to promote promote that's going to promote no not in Canada the reason why we fertilize right to help your grass grow out of whatever it is stress in the spring uh get through the summer uh roots in the fall whatever it may be so you've gotta you gotta just load it with your nitrogen I try and fertilize like every weekend maybe every other weekend that sounds crazy it is but I'm doing micro dosing on spoon feeding whatever you guys call it micro dosing the grass doesn't come in waves of green and then back down to yellow and then green back down I try and keep it as dark green all year long oh fertilizing that you can go as basic as four times a year to I don't know 30 times a year like I'm doing that is going to be your Jack the Jack of all trades okay so number four which would be your ten that's kind of lame you got king queen Jack Jill number four your Jill would be elite grass seed and that sounds weird and I didn't believe that at first but last year I completely started from scratch and I got this down to bare dirt and then I actually ended up getting Elite grassy grass keep grass seed it's this is the 365 Kentucky Bluegrass in the back Jacqueline seed uh midnight Kentucky Bluegrass in the front the reason why I say Elite because the Cheapo the cheap stuff over the counter at your big box stores is going to be a could be filled with weed seeds as well as not as tested for Drought or fungus it just doesn't grow as well as Elite grass seed Since switching over to Elite grass seed it has made it a complete Game Changer I used to have red red thread like crazy I used to have a lot of hot spots in the yard and then with this new Elite grass seed it's been awesome and it's it's a huge difference and I definitely recommend it as my step four Elite grass seed number five your last step would be What Would Be Jack Jill the royal family Jack queen king be like Harry you know who moved to Canada it's like everybody remembers who he is but still not like that important to the royal family okay let's just call it Harry he's redheaded stepchild too okay so your number five uh speaker speaking of redhead Child Number Five Spot spraying weeds mixed in with insect control the Scots green bottle that you get at Home Depot is ready to go with the wand and everything and it works great I really do like it and I think that uh it's great for first time home owners and I I mean I use it too so it's it's not for first timers it's for whoever needs to spot spray weeds in their lawn the scent the center than this insects will ruin your lawn it will kill your lawn as fast as fast as you could say army worms or grubs so that's why I have those two mixed in is the weed control mixed with the insecticide that's just that's your step five that's your five habits that you guys need for a successful easy lawn these are the habits that I wish that I I used to just kind of I would just mow whenever it got long and then I'd stress it out by cutting more than a third off fertilize when it didn't when in the lawn look like it needed fertilizer and then I didn't spot spray so I had a lot of weeds and I didn't do insecticide so then I had a lot of ants and and stuff in my lawn just trying to mow twice a week just try and get water on their lawn fertilizer and the rest will come get yourself a nice lawnmower so you can enjoy the mow that is also key if you're a first time beginner or if you've done it for 20 years and you're still like I don't know I just kind of mow and fertilize them whatever comment below tell me what's your guys's favorite
