5 things to know BEFORE buying a DODGE RAM SRT-10

what is up guys eric here from racing ram fam and today i'm going to show you guys what you need to know about the dodge ram srt10 before you purchase one [Music] so today i got venom my personal 2004 dodge ram srt10 behind me and i purchased this truck about three years ago uh i love the truck it's one of my favorite trucks i've ever owned it's one of the baddest trucks i've ever owned it's fast it's cool it's got 505 cubic inch viper v10 under those packing right out of the dock viper itself in a pickup truck pop the hook for you guys this one is not stock at all but you guys kind of get the gist of it of this big beautiful viper v10 in here we do have a giant turbo on this if you guys want to check other videos out of that i'll post the link right here of the playlist to see turbo venom aka the 2004 dodge ram srt10 turbo in action so as i stated before the turbo is not stock the motor is stock-based um i'm going to show you guys some issues with these trucks that you should definitely know about before you go check one out or if you own one or if you're just really interested in these trucks these are notorious for the oil cooler lines leaking on the motor the factory ones just don't hang they start leaking and then that can cause catastrophic failure to your motor because that is literally where the high pressure oil goes into before it enters the motor so that is one big thing you need guys to check out before you go buy one of these trucks is check out the oil cooler lines right down here running to the oil cooler and as you guys can see in that video is i already have upgraded lines stainless steel a lot of people sell go get those if you own one of the trucks if you looking at buying one of these trucks see if you can see those stainless steel lines that are upgraded with a n fittings that don't leak unless the life of the truck the second big issues again lines on these trucks but this one's with the power steering line the high pressure power steering line loves to blow off on these trucks manufacture defect they are not designed right you get on throttle on these and you turn a lot of pressure it pops the line right off so check to see if those lines are leaking again like on the oil cooler lines i have upgraded an fittings and am lines for this again last the life of the truck fix the issue good to go but if you're going to go purchase one of these trucks definitely something you should check out make sure it's not leaking power steering fluid everywhere [Music] so they made these trucks for three years 2004 2005 and 2006. this is a 2004 this is the first year they made the trucks but for our third big issue applies to our o5 and o6 dodge ram srt10s and what we're talking about right now are the brakes on our 05 and o6 dodge ram srt10s they are a bigger caliper style than this they're a four piston brembo and they have huge issues with seizing up and causing fires causing brakes to be lost and causing rotor dysfunction and just heat and not being good the issue with them with those four pistons is they get corroded in the bores and then when they leave a certain area they get stuck and literally stick the front brakes together and they are highly known for doing that and this is the 0.5 and o6 models only not the 2004 because this is just a two piston design caliper again the o5 and o6 have four pistons and they are highly known for getting stuck again just like my upgraded uh oil cooler lines and upgraded power steering lines you can get kits to rebuild the front calipers so again that will last the life of the vehicle just something to check out before you go purchase one or if you own one and you have a lot of miles on it just so you know the front brakes might start locking up on you all right guys so now that we're in the interior of the truck you can see that we are equipped with a t56 six-speed transmission that all the single cab srt10 rams came equipped with from factory you could also get a four-door version of these trucks that were equipped with a 48 re automatic transmission four speed [Music] and that leads us up to our fourth big issues in these trucks that came in the 05 and o6 quad cab four-door models the 48 re is not known to be a very long lasting transmission in these trucks unlike these t-56s which just keep going and going and take a beating the 48 re has been known to fail at 30 000 miles on those trucks so make sure you go check that transmission fluid out when you're looking at purchasing that truck that's not all burnt and it's going to take a poop on you the next week also if you own a quadcab srt10 ram make sure you're staying up to date with your maintenance schedule flushing filters adjusting the bands to make sure that transmission lives a long and healthy life and our fifth and final issue that we're going to talk about on these dodge ram srt10s but it's very known between all the third gen dodge ram 1500's 2500 3500 and that is the re-circ door breaking off and going on top of the blower motor and then you lose your heat your air there's no airflow out the vents and that is a super common issue again dorman and a lot of other manufacturers have made kits that you put a new research door in there or like this truck i totally removed the reser door and just deleted it all together overall though these trucks are awesome these dodge ram srt10s they all come with that 8.3 liter 505 cubic inch 500 horsepower viper v10 between the 04 05 06 models and the 0.5 and o6 you could get the four-door or the two-door and oh four you only could get the two-door ramp and these trucks are fun and they're just probably one of the coolest trucks i've ever owned they're still one of the coolest trucks on the street today
