[Music] foreign welcome back to this little nook and cranny of the internet that we all call home here gotta like it it's cozy are you guys cozy I mean if not here is a warm cup of tea that I made for you guys here you got there okay hopefully everyone's cozy now so over the past year of sharing how to write music and how to become better writers I myself have been reflecting on some of my favorite songwriting tips and the ones that I wish I learned sooner because they've literally changed the way I write and how I am as a writer the first and most important tip is to binge watch all of my songwriting videos I'm just kidding don't don't do that and I mean do it if you want but I'm not I'm not forcing you to the first actual tip is to use chord inversions and chord substitutions if you guys are beginners this tip will automatically and instantly make your chords sound so much prettier and they could even spark new inspiration and ideas to make any chord progression a little more interesting all you gotta do is take the root note and make it the highest and then you take your fifth and you make it the deepest this takes no extra work at all and you're instantly going to progress your writing it's an easy way to switch up your Baseline and you're adding flavor to an otherwise double song and along with that you can also do quartz substitution which is when you take the melody of whatever song that you have and you change the chords that you're using with it with this you can instantly change up the vibe the feel and the mood of your song tip number two is to start with a title or a punch line have you ever started writing a song with a lyric idea that you really liked and when you continue it you're like where the heck am I going I have no idea where I'm going with this and now you're floating out into space you're floating out of the solar system you're floating out of the Milky Way you're floating out of the foreign [Music] okay where were we right so it's because you don't have a grounding element or an anchor leading you anywhere if you've ever had one of those moments where you're like damn that would make a really good title write that down and then write your song around that idea build your story around a title or a punchline because then you'll know exactly where you need to take your listeners or where you need to take your song in order to get back to that line that we had in the very beginning and bouncing off of that tip number three is to keep a list of all of your titles your punch lines and all of your ideas in one place sometimes our best ideas come to us when we're not writing so like when we're out on a walk when we're driving when we're in the shower so it's really convenient to keep a list of all these ideas where they're not full out songs that are written but instead they're just thrown out random sentences random titles and ideas that you can come back to and then when you can sit down and write something reflecting back on those punch lines and titles it's like having a little toolbox you know that you can just like grab tools out whenever you need tip number four is to know the difference between a hook and a chorus I feel like for the longest time I was confusing the two terms and I was using them interchangeably but they they're completely different things a chorus is just a section of a song where in a pop structure there's like the intro or Verse pre-chorus Chorus second verse pre-chorus course and Etc right but a hook can be placed anywhere in the song it can be in the intro it can be in the verse it can be put out repeatedly throughout the song in order to hook your audience that's the point to hook your audience into the song and to keep them engaged to keep the song interesting and so if you guys are looking to make your songs more interesting look up videos and look up a ton of tips on how to create interesting Hooks and where to put them in your song because honestly once I started learning how to write Hooks and good hooks that is your writing starts to change and you get better and better over time tip number five is to start writing with people and Manser if you haven't been doing it already then you gotta get to it come on come on let's get to it writing with other people has helped me to look at ideas and topics from other perspectives like one idea can mean all sorts of things to different kinds of people right we've all lived through different experiences which means that they're like a zillion ways to write one song bringing someone on a court with you means so many of your doors more ways of saying things and who knows maybe you'll walk away from that writing session with something way better than what you could have written by yourself speaking of co-writing it can be a challenge navigating these things if you haven't done so already which brings us to today's sponsor distro kid and their new feature splits in today's music climate everyone is collaborating which is so amazing so District kid has a tool which allows you to easily pay your collaborators without having to hire an accountant with splits by District kid you can easily add unlimited collaborators to any track you can change your splits or collaborators at any time for privacy sake collaborators can only see what percentage they get and not who who your other collaborators are or what percentage other folks get and if your collaborators don't already have a district kit account they can easily make one for 10 bucks District kid will not delay any of your releases if your collaborators are slow to sign up all they will do is hold the money for them until they join and if your collaborators never join you can easily just cancel their invite and allocate their money elsewhere and as always sister kid never takes a cut you and your collaborators will keep 100 of your earnings that you make anyways that is all for today I hope you guys find these tips useful thank you so much for tuning in and watching this video and I will see you guys in the next video bye foreign
