thirty to forty percent video of the viewers i have not subscribed guys if you like videos on corky's fishing instructor stuff hit that subscribe button i'm working my way to five thousand when i get to five thousand is whenever i'm gonna start going live once or twice a month to talk to you guys answer questions talk about our dogs whatever help me get to that 5000 so that i can help you so for my next act i'm going to remove this corky from the bag if you know you know let's see what we got here let's see what we got here oh bam magic so the masses have spoken and next week i'm going to do a video on what we want to look for in the month of october and i'll continue to do that throughout the the series as long as you know the video is doing well but next week we're going to do that i'm going to be doing it from the water in matagorda today we're talking about the corkies now i've done a video already it will be linked down below on bending them working them all the basics that i like to do but today is five solid tips five things that you should really know about this lure now step one i like i've already went in depth in the other video but it's the most important thing i think you can do to it and that's how we bend it so we're gonna hit it real quick i get it out of the package it looks brand new it's straight like this i'm going to bend the nose down i'm going to bend the tail down to kind of give it that that kind of rolled look there and so what that's going to do when i throw it out and it goes in the water the nose is going to dig and keep it low in the water column or really not keep it low that's kind of an exaggeration it's going to help it stay where i let it sink to now i'm still going to have to twitch it and give it some time to sink back down if it rises but that will keep it from rising uh slower it'll make it rise slower but that super important if you're not doing this to your quirky you're already working harder than you need to so that's one two is color i get this question all the time guys i get it in person emails text messages what are your favorite colors what are the or what are the colors that really catch fish colors don't matter that much you know you you see if it's dark skies throw darks guys i'll fish at night i'll throw this guy right here but you know i might throw this guy or i might throw a red shad sometimes they really want a specific color but that's maybe five percent of the time what's really important is what are you confident in what what's your confidence what what do you feel like i'm going to keep throwing this because i think this color is going to work for me that is the key most important thing that i can i can describe to you i'll show you right now aside from red shad these are the three colors that i throw okay this is the tequila sunrise it's orange with with some orange with some gold glitter and a chartreuse belly i really like this one i'll throw it in dirty water clean water it's just it's one of my confidence colors i've caught a lot of big fish on it i've got a couple over 30 on it is i like it so i threw it this is the texas chicken it's got a pink back pearl sized chartreuse belly i'm going to be honest with you i throw this one when i can't decide what i want to throw i've got pink pearl and chartreuse that's why i throw it no crazy science i feel like in my head i want to throw pink uh pearl chartreuse i'll get one with all three that'll keep me throwing it if you are if you're back there tying on lures all the time you're taken away from your chances to catch because your lure is not out there in the water and then finally you've got you know just your classic pearl chartreuse i mean these th these are my three colors the red shad if this if it's really gloomy and whatnot i like that i like that quirky a lot but confidence over color every day of the week what you think is going to catch them is what you need to be throwing don't be if you're throwing something don't have confidence in it then you're not really working it real good you're not grinding with it you're just kind of throwing it go man okay and this is i know this i know this has happened to you okay two more casts i'm changing two more cat oh one more cast i'm changing well if you're already thinking about you know just getting it over with then just rip the band-aid off put a different one on move on number three is the direction that you're going to throw the lure so and i fall i fall guilty of this as have a lot of you the wind's blowing straight down my back so it's blowing that way right and you are bombing this corki and boy you can cast it a long ways it feels good you throw it straight downwind and you bring it back and you throw it straight downwind and you bring it back you do that for next thing time when you looked up you've done it for 20 minutes now if there's fish coming by and you're ambushing them great but if you're not catching anything throw more of like a 45 to the wind so if the wind's blowing this way hit those 45s hit those angles what that does is especially if you've got a bit of wind is when that quirky is flying that wind's going to start carrying it and so when it hits the water it's going to hit it at a more natural angle right because it's coming in at an angle and then the wind blowing on your line instead of that quirky coming straight back to me from 45 degrees now it's kind of it's kind of working out it's making kind of a natural slope okay it just it looks better to the fish it works better you can cover much more ground obviously right i mean throw it 90 degrees i mean 40 45 degrees is just a it's an example throw it throw it all the way across the wind don't get in the habit of just throwing it straight downwind over and over and over and over it looks better the fish it sounds better to the fish and you're covering a lot more water so i did that on accident number three has three really good reasons how about that four know the difference between a floater and a sinker they're both fat boys so here's the fat boy sinker here is the fat boy floater the red gill let you know it's a floater this one has a bigger cork in it they call them corky's they have quirks in them has a bigger cork in it and no rattle this one has a little rattle in it this one does not if i'm in knee-deep water or less the floater is a better way to go most of the time if there's structure on the bottom shell grass stuff like that your floater is a better way to go now this floater it isn't a top water it doesn't just sit on top and bob i've thrown it down south and baffin and whatnot where the the salt levels are a lot higher and it's going to sink a lot slower than your your bays that have more of an average salinity but it doesn't just sit on top and bob in fact one thing you really want to know about this floater one thing i do every time i tie it on and i just flip flipping the water in front of me and look at it nine times out of ten this thing does not float i mean i'm sorry it does not sink like this it bobs for a second and then it kind of falls with its butt down absolutely hate that i mean how many times you seen a mullet swimming along and then go just doesn't happen so this one whenever i'm pausing it i'm not completely stopping it i'm barely moving it to keep it to keep it more level instead of letting it do this number but it is going to sink a lot slower than the regular fat boys so it's going to keep you a little bit higher in the water column it's going to keep you off bottom off that structure stuff like that and you know speaking of of structure and sinking and everything you know the first couple times you throw that quirky out there if you've got three or four feet of water let it hit and let it go to the bottom kind of counting your head how long it took so then you know if it took six seconds to get to the bottom and you know you want to fish the middle of the column then you're gonna throw it out there and count to three and then start working it as you're working it it's going to work back up if you're working it fast enough so those pauses you know let it go down and then so number five we've talked about you know how to catch fish you know your your prerequisites but now to actually catch them there's plenty of times when you're just you're just walking this thing along and it gets slammed there are but you need to pause this lure a lot whenever you pause it is usually when you're going to get your hits so speed you know that you see it all the time if you think you're working a quirky slow work it's slower if the water's in the 40s yeah i'm gonna really slowly bring it but if that water is 60 or higher even 55 or higher i'm still working it at a pretty good cadence you know pop pop pop pop but then i'm gonna pause it and i'm gonna let that pause happen and i'm gonna let it i'm gonna let it descend real slow and then i'm gonna pop pop pop pop and then pause it and let it go that pause is usually where you get where you get the bites at so know your speed remember to put the pauses and that kind of good stuff in there um and that's really going to help the i put out a video before we talk about pausing we talk about burning the real handles you know that that's a that's a solid 101 basic quirky video but this one you know it's a little bit more in-depth a little more details about what we're doing now it's big trout season you catch a big one we like to see it we we love to see it get let loose it's it's it's it's i'm sorry that's just the way you do it in my opinion but that's my humble opinion i'm going to do a video later about the little gadgets and and oddities that i carry on me daily and but one of them i'm gonna i'm gonna hit you with it right now because i want to see these fish released happily and healthily and that are that is these hemostats now these things aren't super easy to find i mean you can find all sorts of human stats but these what i really like about them come on focus in here is they've got a really short jaw on them right here now you see the other ones that have but they have like these scissor things in here and i don't want to risk cutting my line but these are oh shoot i don't know i give them you know eight inches long something like that the thing the golden thing about these is this corky when it's in a fish's mouth it's taking up a lot of space and a lot of the time you have one that you know is hooked down here around the gills somewhere in the back of their mouth these things are very non-obtrusive you can get them in beside the quirky you can get a hold of that hook i even you know click it and lock it and then get it out if you if you're in a really bad situation then you can go in through the gills and get it out these things save a lot of vicious lives there's no doubt about it so if you have somewhere to get some hemostats these these ones here they're a little bit more readily available you know the bigger ones and and they'll do the job but you know i'm i'm getting old and i'm stuck in my ways so these i think these are called mosquito hemostats if you know where to get them put them in the comments below be a hero to everybody if i can confirm that you can get them there i'm going to pin that comment i'm going to put it in a future video great stuff we're going to do this thing on more gadgets uh you know later on but very important to have with you this winter so hey it's time for corki's we're going to do a video next week about what to see good luck any questions as always hit me up and we will catch you on the next one
