5 Cool things I didn't know before moving to Las Vegas

what's going on guys Jacob Werth back here it's gonna be a Jacob's life in Vegas I'm gonna talk to you guys today about five cool things that I did not know about Las Vegas or Southern Nevada or Henderson I do not know about this area before I moved here so gonna jump into those just a second but remember you like the information on this channel and you want to get more information in the monsoons right and some of you might think it's kind of strange that uh I would like the monsoons and you guys have seen before here on the channel been at least one video where I showed the monsoons here in town and show what it's like it was raining hard we get those in the summertime so people think of Vegas made no you know the heat in the summertime I think I realized that you know Vegas also gets cold in the wintertime but we generally have pretty good weather for most of the year we have over 300 days of sunshine a year and with all that I really love the Sun okay I love the sunshine I really enjoy it you know the heat in the summertime doesn't bother me as much as it does some other people you know who seemed like really get freaked out over it but even for me somebody who loves the Sun you know I do like to get some rain every now and again I don't want to live like in Seattle okay I don't want I don't want to trade 300-plus days of sunshine for 300 plus days of rain and overcast okay I don't want to trade that but even me I do like to get some rain every now and again I think some rain can be good and the other part about the rain is even though when it's you know go on in town it can be a lot at times we like it downpours during a monsoon in certain parts of town with flood you get some flood warnings and that kind of thing you know we don't get it that often so maybe it's because we don't get that often that I don't mind it so much but also after a good rain sometimes you go outside and that day just feel so fresh the air feels fresh it feels like it's been purified I think it's been cleaner the ground is wet the dirt is wet it just feels like so much fresher than normal and that's just something that you know maybe because I grew up you know in California where are used to get that more often so who knows but it's just like the day just feels fresh lot of times so after like a good rain or even you know what a monsoon comes on oh - so much because the day just feels so like nice and fresh afterwards the second Bing but I'll talk about that I like here's I mentioned this in a video like way back like in the beginning of my channel I talked about this is the traffic ticket process so those of you that are coming from special from California where I came from you will definitely appreciate this because you see how as in well as where you can see how extreme California is where you know in California I remember growing up there and hit my first traffic ticket for speeding and you know the thing in California was you're only supposed to go to a traffic school one time every year so once every 18 months you could go to traffic school for moving violations you got like a seatbelt ticket or a parking date I didn't count but if you got two moving violations so rolling through a stop sign or speeding or something like that if you got two of those in a year and a half you're supposed to go to traffic school for the second you just get a point on your record and then your insurance would go up and that was it you're just screwed you just had to deal with it until it came off your record now in Nevada I didn't realize it was like that or I should I didn't realize it wasn't like that I got my moving violation here than that I got a speeding ticket I got a speeding ticket the first or the thing with this second year I was here something like that got to take it and paid it if I never have to go to traffic so I thought it was similar to California and I'm calling my insurance and talk to them about it if that was going to go on my record and they're like oh no it's just like one point he's like you know you got to worry about it said Nevada you can get it takes 12 points on your record it's actually lose your license he's like yeah we wouldn't even know you got it until I should get to the point where it's like you know you get too many and like you know your dribble getting your license like suspended so you could really get like 11 points a year on your driving record in Nevada and still keep your license so in today and the points vary by you know infraction right like if you get ticketed for going five miles over the limit that's like one point you know I think if you go ten or more or like ten to twenty is like two points like twenty or thirty is like three points you know if you hit somebody that's going to get you more points on your record you know so certain things will get you more points if you're just doing like small infractions small moving violations not a big deal and mine well I had it happen I found out - here in Nevada if it's your first ticket your first moving violation or you just haven't gotten one in a really long time it'll get reduced down to illegal parking so you just pay like a parking ticket it's not even moving the violation is so amazing I just paid it like a regular parking ticket the state of Nevada was so lenient compared to California's like oh my gosh this is amazing Oh the third thing but I'll show you guys and I loved it did it no do not notice before I moved to Las Vegas there's a thing you're gonna really like when you come to live here is the local love discounts all the discounts you get just for being a local and I never heard of that before in my life of any place I did not expect that here in Las Vegas I had no clue about it a new Vegas of course is big for hospitality and tourism and nightlife and that all that kind of stuff I didn't think you know that being a local was going to get you like discounts that kind of thing I had read a little bit they're like locals didn't really participate in a lot of the tourist activities because you know you live here you have a different perspective right you know you're you live here and you see right the strip back there you can see the strip and maybe another downtown and you have a different perspective when you leisure is a local risk of your coming as a tourist like a few days you're all excited to be here and he was ready to go hard like I'll hardly any sleep and you know enjoy your vacation it's different when you're gonna live here every single day so I don't really think much about it but then when I found out yeah once you like your new Nevada ID your driver's license and you can prove that you live here that's when you're getting like drink discounts at bars and lounges and clubs on the strip some of the big clubs off the strip that's when you're getting discounts on buffets you can bring you get like half price on buffets you can bring guests with you and get them like half price you get two for one show tickets you get all kinds of discounts just for being a local when you go out to play so I had no idea about that but it is absolutely awesome you get it too free sometimes at like clubs and lounges that kind of thing I DeFeo what night of the week it is like you get so many just cool benefits just for living here that you don't get like in other places so that was something I had no idea about I didn't know anything about that before I came but once I got here found I was like wow like this is really awesome the four thing that will bring up it I'll tell you guys I love about Las Vegas I didn't know about before moving here is actually gonna see me here in the frame right the outdoors right all the outdoor activities that are available out here that this area has to offer and I'll I'll actually flip the camera real quick and show you guys where I max I know some people are like well this view behind me so I'm actually way out East Lake Mead Boulevard right now so so Kentucky Ohio 15 north and all the way to Lake mean just took it out east I'll show you guys out here right by the mountains this is where I'm at so you can see this mountain here then there's some some partial people walk out there and do a little hike up here you see the Sun getting ready to come up over there so yeah there's Vegas for those you don't know this area this is called the Vegas Valley for a reason and because it is absolutely surrounded by mountains so you guys saw him sitting right next to some mountains here you up way out the other side you'll see like you know the Red Rock is Mount Charleston that is like mountains all over the place here okay and I didn't know that before I came here I thought I'm just gonna be like you know open desert for as far as you could see and Vegas was just like the strip you know right in the middle of it all and basically just life life just revolved around that that's beautiful I thought it was like basically like you lived here you work at hospital you work in my life you're in hotels I'm like that's your life okay firstly that's not the case so if you're someone who loves outdoor stuff you're you love hiking you love to go out to the lake right you go out to Lake Mead do stuff there you go skiing up the Mount Charleston skiing snowboarding go rent a cabin up there to stay you know just for a getaway I mean you love doing any of that kind of stuff any of those outdoor activities you love to be you have begun your bicycle and go cycling tons of places go cycling around this area people go through all the time on this place if you'd like to go horseback riding here because this area really for a long time knew happened to prob about the 80s was very much like a cowboy town there's a lot of ranchers out here people saw horse properties so there's a lot of that outdoor lifestyle rural influence here in the Vegas area that I didn't know about I must admit I did not know about that before I got here so now that I live here I never hiked before really a day in my life I'd been of the mountains before you know living in California up to the mountain several times but you know here it's like I can just go take a short drive and just go hiking if I want right it's like it's awesome it's so great to have that that break or you say that contrast if you will from the nightlife the hospitai the go-go-go the hustle-bustle is stripped and downtown the flashing neon lights and you just come out in nature and take a nice hike and just enjoy all the beauty that Mother Nature has to offer it's absolutely amazing I'm so glad that that aspect is here and you know said I didn't find out till after I came here but I'm so glad that this area has that aspects is absolutely amazing and then the last part number five I think I'll talk about here that's actually being kind of cool I didn't know about this at all in Vegas until I moved here either was the amount of East Coast and Midwest transplants that are here in Vegas so obviously you know you look on the map Nevada is right next to California right they border each other Vegas is about four hours from the ocean rights more or less four hours from Vegas to LA probably bout five hours from Vegas like San Diego so some people you know consider Vegas to be like you know very West Coast culture some of you consider Nevada to be West Coast obviously you know we're in the Mountain West from the western part of the United States and you know I knew that Nevada was popular for California's to move to house leaking of states that Californians tend to when Calot when Californians were leaving California states they tend to go to Nevada was one of them obviously so close and it's very different from California in so many ways you know Nevada California is like the highest income tax in the country Nevada has no state income tax California is very you know anti-gun laws Nevada's very pro gun laws you know California it's like you have to stop drinking it to in Nevada you can drink any time of day you want right of legalized gambling legalized prostitution certain areas like Nevada's you know much more libertarians much more laid-back much more you know be much more freedom here than you have in California a lot other states so I know that Nevada was a popular spot to comfortable from California so I figured that you know hey I'm gonna be hearing I'm gonna be here in Nevada there's gonna be tons of people there's probably gonna be some people from California from up north you know like Sacramento Stockton maybe Modesto Fresno you know Oakland San Francisco San Jose the Bay Area I knew there gonna be a bunch from Southern California so LA Long Beach Orange County San Diego area the Inland Empire like all that area I figure there gonna be a lot of people here from there and there are there's a lot of California's without a doubt but when I moved here I had never heard so many New York accents in my life I'm talking to Vegas it was crazy New York is Chicago or the other two big cities they have so many people that live here you know some people say it's because you know the foundation of the Mafia here because a lot of you know mobsters from New York and Chicago and mafia members obviously had operations here in Vegas that was a big connection but you'll see a lot of Midwest people here Chicago is a big one you get a good amount from Michigan specifically from Detroit and some other areas Minnesota Wisconsin gay people from those states as well New York yet people from you know New York City from Long Island from Manhattan from upstate New York you get some people from Jersey some people from Boston Massachusetts and you get some people like you know from the southern states not a lot I would say but you know you may be working Florida for Miami or maybe Louisiana or Texas or whatever the case is and you know many people from pretty much every state here but I just didn't realize you know I'm in California as close as a big influence but I didn't realize how much influence there's gonna be here from the Midwest and from the East Coast you know people from like New York and Chicago pizza places here didn't like their own style pizza from the East Coast from Midwest wherever they're from so that's one of things actually I thought was really cool is you know it's not just a Vegas isn't just a complete like suburb of LA or you know just a complete like California transplant transplant area there are a lot of California transplants here but you would get your you will get your cultural influence from the East Coast without a doubt you'll get your cultural influence from the Midwest from Chicago and all that kind of stuff without a doubt so there's a lot more here than just Californians so if you're coming from California you might like to know that and if you're coming from you know another state you will probably find some other people here from your state as well so there's from all over the country really all over the world that come and live here in Las Vegas about 20% of our population or foreigners here and I didn't know that either till I moved to Vegas so about 20% of our population is foreign and about 76 the overall population study 6% the overall population is not from here in Nevada they were not born and raised here so a lot of people from all over the place that live here in the Nagus area absolutely awesome those are five cool things I did not know about Las Vegas before I moved here but now that I live here
