what is going on YouTube and today's video I want to talk about five things you need to look out for on your Tahoe as it approaches 200 000 miles so this is my 2004 Chevy Tahoe there is some things you need to be careful of look out for and prepare for as it approaches 200 000 miles and that way you can handle problems before they get too serious or just be prepared for the serious issue so first one I'm gonna talk about is the most major issue and that is the 4l60 uh 200 000 miles give or take these things start to fail as the transmission for people that don't know what the 4060 is but these things start to fail either before or after 200 000 miles depending on how they were taken care of that's kind of something to be careful of if you tow a lot then your 4060 is probably going to be on this way out around 200 sometimes they do make it pass but it just depends but um I always talk about the 4l60 and all of my videos because it's just not a very strong transmission and the problem with them is that they heat up pretty quickly and pretty easily and that is what ultimately kills not only the 4060 but pretty much any transmission is heat so one way around that transmission is still good is to get a transmission cooler which you guys can probably see inside of there and what that's going to do is that's gonna help keep those temps down and the reason I'm showing you that one is because it is upgraded you do have one stock but it's just not big enough especially if you live in warmer climates you just want to upgrade it so that one is a true cool 40K uh it's about three times the size of the one that came on the truck and I haven't had any issues since I put it on there so I'll leave a link somewhere on the screen to that video of me installing that and where to get it from but that's going to do it for the first one let's go ahead and talk about the second issue which is going to be a whole General thing you need to be prepared for is the suspension on these Tahoes Silverados this can go for any Chevy 1500 2500 but mainly for the tiles as we're talking about and to be specific on your front end of those trucks they're not the strongest so ball joints tie rods uh control arms upper and lower if if they haven't been replaced it's probably going to be time to replace them for my 4x4 guys you're going to want to look at your transfer case if you want lucky enough for it to make the 200 you might want to look at replacing that and it's just a lot of suspension pieces you want to take a look at like with any vehicle but especially on these Tahoes they're not building strong as expansions on other vehicles easily you know they're easy to replace easy to work on and they're easily upgradable but they're not the strongest from the factory and for the rear one thing I will tell you that it's kind of like a Tahoe owner thing I don't know if you guys can notice it but the left side of my truck sits lower than the right and that is simply because on your driver's side that's where the gas tank sits it sits right over the driver's side rear spring and over time it wears it down more than the passenger side which is why it sags on one side and it probably is not showing up on camera that well but it's pretty noticeable and if I have some some weight on the back like from towing or if I put anything in the trunk it it is it just multiplies it's extremely noticeable and it is kind of an issue you know it can cause one side and one side of the tires to wear more if you tow heavy a lot so something to address all you need to do is replace the rear um Springs if you have coil springs on the back and it's doing this you just replace the Springs Moog makes a set for like 70 20 70 and 80 dollars that fixes everything it'll make it ride back normal probably go ahead and replace your struts too while you're back there you know do all the other stuff but that's mainly it for the rear uh but the suspension as a whole is something you should strongly consider taking a look at for number three we're going to talk about something that's under the hood and it's going to be down there it's going to be your harmonic balancer which you probably can't see so I don't even know why I'm pointing at it but at 200 000 miles I mean that is something you're going to want to take a look at and the reason I say that I'm having issues with mine it's just a known thing to fail on a lot of vehicles by this time and especially with Tahoes uh the truck balancers they have like a rubber pretty much all GM harmonic balancers have like a rubber surface on the inside and once it wears down it causes the harmonic balance of the wobble and once it gets you know worn down to a certain point it'll make your belt squeak or it'll wobble completely out of place and you know fail so that's something you want to take a look at and to know if yours is failing just start the truck and look to see if the harmonic balancer is wobbling and if you don't know which pulley it is it's literally the largest pulley all the way down at the bottom I don't know if you can see it but it's under your water pump directly under your water pump the largest pool you have if you see that wobbling and you hear the belt squeaking and that means it is definitely time to change it so that's the issue on these trucks again you can either replace it with another GM one they're like 70 80 not expensive or you can put an aftermarket one like Summit makes one um and theirs is a lot this is stronger than the factory one and it's about 230 dollars I just looked at one because I need one so that's something to take into consideration um once your truck hits 200 000 miles if it's not wobbling if it's not doing anything crazy then of course you don't have to replace it just ride it out until you start seeing issues but if you're down there if you have to pull it off for any reason and go ahead and replace it so that's going to do it for the third one and before we talk about the fourth issue with the Tahoe we need to talk about today's sponsor which is going to be shine armor shine armor is a company that sells all kind of auto detailing products and accessories and they have all different kinds of things today they sent me their ceramic leather wipes and what these are going to do for you is they're going to completely eliminate you having to use any kind of spray on leather conditioner leather cleaner because these have both in one so they clean and conditioned not only leather but pretty much any anterior surface without the use of a spray so if you need to clean your dash you don't have to spray and get residue all over the windshields and then have to clean those you just go in wipe you come back with this tile they give you and then that takes care of it this thing feels amazing it feels like it's pretty high quality so if you want to see not only the leather wipes that they have but any of the other amazing products they have use the code chance 20 when you check out to get 20 off of your order and I just want to say thank you again to shine armor for sending me these products and allowing me to use them for my video so with that being said check them out use code chance 20 and that will give you 20 off your order and that's that so now we'll get back to the video so let's do it so now let's jump into the fourth issue that you should be wary of or be careful of if you're around 200 000 miles on your Tahoe and this one is one that I recently dealt with and I know it's gonna kind of catch a lot of you guys off guard so let me explain between the pickup tube and the oil pump there's a o-ring that helps seal it together followed by some bolts that O-ring is prone to fail you know once you get some higher mile sometimes it's you know you never know you never know when it when it's actually going to fail but it is very prone to failing around the 200 000 mile Mark I replaced mine a few hundred miles ago um but it's called the pickup tube ring and pretty much when this fails it causes you to drop oil pressure and you probably hear your lifters ticking at highway speed sometimes if it completely failed they'll tick even on startups so that's something to be careful of because when it happened to me I wasn't sure if my lifters themselves were failing you know or if I was losing oil pressure somewhere more important so after doing some research I realized it's a pickup tube ball ring it's like a 10 12 o-ring and you have to drop the oil pan to get to it so you can change that gasket while you're down there but just changing this will bring that oil pressure back up it's not a major issue but it can cause major problems if you let it Linger on and you continue to drive it while the lifters tick so if you're dealing with this go ahead and park the Tahoe and go ahead and address it so that's the fourth issue again I dealt with it so I'll leave that video linked up here as well on the top of the screen somewhere in one of the cards if you want to see the process of doing that but after doing that I haven't had any issues with oil pressure went back to normal so that's the fourth issue be very careful go ahead and take care of that as soon as possible if you have to deal with it so now let's go on to the final issue so the final the fifth and final issue that we're going to talk about with Tahoe's closing in on 200 000 miles is going to be a big one this is the head bolts and this is a very common thing on a lot of early 2000s GM trucks and SUVs and pretty much what happens is your header bolts prone to breaking off into the head themselves that's an issue and the only way to really fix them is to probably weld a nut on to the broken off Bolt and get them out that way or just go ahead and replace your bolts you know I'm in that category where I probably just need to go ahead and replace my bolts because none are broken but it is a pretty common issue and that is a problem because if the nut breaks then you're gonna lose that seal between your header or your manifold and the head itself which is going to make the truck run very bad throw all kinds of codes and yeah it's just not something that's fun to deal with so if you have all your head bolts in there it's probably wise to consider switching them out for just some ARP head bolts or just any head bolt that is coated that will not break and you can do your research on those there's plenty of them out there but probably some arp header bolts um and if you're going to go long tube headers or if you have any reason to take them off you change your heads then also don't reuse those throw them away use some different ones so that's going to do it for all of those that's pretty much it so the only major issue with the Tahoe is the 4l60 itself like I say in every video I talk about this dang truck so again I always say in every video how much I love this truck y'all don't have to know or truck slash SUV whatever you call it I call it a truck because it's pretty much that truck on the SUV or it's a SUV on the truck frame and everything else so that's how I feel about the tower that's that's the five things that's wrong with it but other than that um I have a few minor issues to address with it I got to change somewhere on my radio that's causing all of my speakers to not come on um I got to change my rear springs as well as some other stuff in the back that I already have my harmonic balancer and then lastly I got I have to believe my master cylinder because I didn't explain this earlier because I was trying to get through the video but I did lose my brakes on the freeway um and no I didn't run into anybody or anything but my brakes went out because one of my brake lines busted it caused me to lose a lot of pressure but I could still stop so I fixed that put some stainless steel lines on I didn't make a video about it because I was in kind of a rush to fix it so that's that um but that's everything that Tahoe need and I'll make videos on all the stuff that I do do that's really it for the Tahoe and I know y'all want to update on the vet because I said that I was about to make a decision on whether I was going to cam it or not myself and I was already in the process of cabinet myself before the Tahoe went down so I had to put everything back together Drive the vet until I could fix the Tahoe and so now the vet has just been pretty much sitting back here waiting to be worked on um I did buy some quick Jacks too I don't know if I showed y'all another video it's got some quick Jacks to work on the vet just to make it easier I still have to lift the front end up so it can fit under there but other than that it's not too bad so that's an update on everything I plan on get into the Vet eventually but I need the Tahoe to be reliable first and I need to address those issues before they address me so that's everything um I hope this wasn't too long of a video I hope it was helpful for y'all and I hope I gave enough updates on everything that's going on so that's gonna do it for this one um I hope you all enjoyed it I plan on getting this done sometime soon working on the vet sometime soon is because as you can see my inspection is gone so that's gonna do it for that we'll get to work but as always I'll take it easy I will catch y'all on the next video
