on today's episode of McCool against we put a 440 Big Block duromax in a coolster mini Jeep I love it let's do it [Music] okay today is assembly day we finally got all of our modifications done to the frame we did some touch-up paint last night and we're ready to start putting this thing together and making it go so what I want to do now is just point out all the details of what we modified so that you have a clear understanding of what we did because it's kind of hard to follow as we're building it so we're going to start with a steering here in the front what we ended up doing because originally the steering shaft was over in this area and these are the rack mounts that wasn't going to work because the steering shaft interfered with the clutch which you'll see when we get it put together so we flipped the steering rack around and put the shaft on the passenger side the chassis is upside down but that made the steering backwards so we flipped the spindle side to side and went from a rear steer spindle to a front steer spindle uh for those of you that know what I'm talking about there's no Ackerman built into these spindles so it really didn't matter they're interchangeable so we didn't screw up the steering steering geometry so we mounted the steering rack up here and before the steering was just mounted with a u-bolt and a little piece of rubber so we actually used an exhaust pipe clamp that gave us a saddle so it actually holds the rack because it was slopping around before it doesn't move anymore we fixed that so I've reinforced the bottom of the frame we added if you want to call it a subframe connector so we ran subframe connectors from this cross member all the way through the chassis we did a step down so we'd clear this the rear arm and we ran them all the way back to the rear bumper and then tied in a receiver hitch so the entire chassis from the motor plate all the way to the receiver hitch is now tied together so that it's not going to break or come loose because we are effectively quadrupling the horsepower when it came to the chain because we relocated the chain what we ended up doing was flipping the sprocket from one side of this axle to the other to help us offset the chain and then we ended up changing the sprockets we went to a slightly smaller sprocket to give us just a little more with the new gearing and the torque converter everything the the speeds are off just a little bit so we went to a slightly smaller sprocket here the other chain tatcheter was flimsy and crappy we ended up fabricating a new chain tensioner so this this is a lot heavier Duty now it's got a good modern industrial sprocket everything's just a little heavier Duty we did a connector here on the frame because of the increased torque we were afraid we might tear these mounts off the tube or crack the tubes so we've tied these tubes together and then the tubes have been welded to the subframe connectors so everything is just reinforced a little bit it's probably Overkill but we wanted to make sure that nothing's going to break we even added a few gussets in here on this rear swing arm just to make it a little bit better now that we flip the chassis over we'll talk about what we did on the top we reinforced these upper frames with some flat stock and added the motor plate for the Duramax this is a reinforcing plate to support a bearing we're putting in an additional bearing at the end of the Jack shaft just to handle the extra load the top shock mounts is on a bar we made that removable so that we could get the engine in and out and once again the steering shaft came through and we'll see once the engine's on there's no way that we could run the steering shaft through here so these are the old rack mounts what we ended up doing which it seems pretty simple now but getting to this Point took us a lot of time and a lot of energy trying to come up with a solution we tried about three different things this is what we ended up with so we put a new shaft on the steering knuckle extended it up and we ended up doing a remote chain so we have a chain drive that's a one to one used a three-quarter Heim to support the shaft which gives us a point of tensioning this drive chain as it wears and gets loose we have a little adjustment here so this has all been reinforced this is a extra tab to reinforce the the backing plate of the clutch mount and then once again from the top this this is a mount that we put on for the tensioner of the alternator we'll talk about the alternator here in a little bit we did install the mounting plate for the winch we have a little bit more modification to go here that's why this isn't painted yet we'll we'll do that on another day we have a few more modifications to make and a few more things to add but today we're going to get it running so that we can make sure that all the Driveline works so we're going to use the high zinc HPS Royal Purple Royal Purple sponsorship come on you know you want to do it I will say at the time when we are looking at oils that were available on the market there were only two that had a true full synthetic base it was royal purple and Amsoil and Amsoil you can only get your hands on I think if you're a dealer and Royal Purple you can get anywhere so I'm going to double check or Torque here click click don't over torque it click ain't going by torque spec this time going by Fuel head bolts are the unknown because that's why I usually go buy torque spec something like this once it's seated there ain't more tightening that you can do there ain't no stretching let's see here that baby fits like a glove remember this one being particularly frustrating we always try to make our stuff as serviceable as possible but sometimes it just doesn't always work out that way so with the addition of the steering going through here it's hard to get to this bolt now step back and I will fix it well not convenient not impossible [Music] thank you the one item that we spend a lot of time trying to figure out time energy machine time was trying to get an alternator on this thing because we needed an alternator for all of our electrical loads and uses so I am proud how well this thing fits it looks like it fits really easy but it was a lot of man hours making a fit like this just need the impact for the 96 students geez the 3 8 already now with a turnbuckle with iron joints foreign so part of what we did was made this upper shock mount brace Fender Mount removable so we added some studs onto the frame and now that can go on and off to get the engine in and out and that bolts into place these are the braces so we made bolt on we're going to leave these unfinished for today because we might end up adding some brackets to them when we Mount all the Hydraulics we're not sure yet exactly what we need so we're gonna we're just gonna leave these unfinished for now we have a totally custom one-off header for this with a glass pack I might add now in order to have proper clearance for our brace here we did have to delete the pull start on this engine so this electric start only so we're going to Temp wire up the factory switch just to make sure everything starts runs and works and functions as it should actually what I'm going to tell you is rather than use that do we start it manually without this just hook it up and we'll just use a little jumper and start it sounds good to me bearish well we got the fuel hose hooked up we flushed the carburetor purged it to make sure all the air is out we're going to give this thing the very first fire up and we're just going to use a jump pack to make it happen wait that's it hers like a kitten and our kill switch works good foreign yes all in all I'd say it's a pretty successful first fire up everything looks like it's working as it should all right so let's do I'm gonna do Cotter keys and brakes and I'm going to get those tight and get those Cotter keys on and we get the wheels on get the springs in the front and then we should be able to set it back down on this chassis or on the ground let's also work I'm going to start working on brakes while you start doing all that okay [Music] [Music] all right [Music] since it's almost dark out we're going to try to do a quick maiden voyage of this thing on the ground so we're going to do the ultimate redneck throttle cable zip ties oh my God the bump steer is horrible rainy conditions from 7 P.M to 9 p.m with scattered thunderstorms expected at 9pm all right so here's our maiden voyage we're going to do I'm probably just going to take it real easy drive down turn around come back and then we'll maybe suggest a little more throttle so okay that is really quiet I can't believe how quiet it is [Music] [Music] foreign patch down there so I'm trying to take it easy and not spin out but you can feel it kind of loose right there but this thing's going to be a blast when it's fully done I'm barely using Full Throttle and just for the record the stop screw on the throttle I have it turned in almost as far as it'll go we're only maybe getting a half to two thirds throttle at the most when I went back the other way because it kind of maxed out the throttle and then all of a sudden the torque converter kicked in and started shifting it's like holy crap I gotta turn it off I told you you go faster and faster it's great it was pretty wet and snowy out but holy crap this it's it it meant All my expectations and maybe even exceeded them and we're not even really doing a proper test yet for the first Shakedown to have no issues I'm I'm beyond stoked this thing is so fast and like I said I have the throttle set so it's barely it's it's probably just half or a little more but it's not two-thirds yet there's a lot of throttle left to go and once it gets on the torque converter starts picking up speed it's like oh my God shut it down so we're gonna have to really be careful how we drive this thing so yeah definitely a rollover Hazard now can't wait to get it all back to get it all together get our winch and our bull bars and all that stuff tied up get all the wiring done get the lights on it we have a lot of lights a lot of wiring a lot of stuff to do yet but mechanically it moves and goes and drives under its own power be sure to like subscribe and click that Bell for
