it is freezing cold I'm sat here in the middle of the night I'm waiting for Goggins to show up on Instagram live to kick off this next run and I see this so this guy just passed me he said goggin just be average today some of you just don't understand some of youve been average for so damn long you don't know what it is to do hard work but there's a lot of you out there who want to be much more than average yeah more than average it's my line [Music] this video is sponsored by Squarespace it's Friday night and the four miles every 4 hours for 48 hours David ggins 2022 challenge starts in about 6 hours time I'm going to take you through every step of it and as I do so I'll cover everything that's involved how I expect to do how we expect to do the planning for it what I'm eating what he's eating and ultimately how it goes right now we need to get to bed so that we are fresh and ready for a 400 a.m. start 4:00 a.m. if you could tell a Time mate you would know what to think okay it is nearly 4:00 a.m. but I'm not feeling fresh already I'm feeling tired probably because it's nearly 4:00 a.m. so here's what's going to happen gogins is going to kick off the challenge at 8:00 p.m. Pacific Southern time 4:00 a.m. here on Instagram live at which point two things are going to happen one me and Nixon set off running two Nixon tries not to bark which is normally how he likes to start a run I have explained to him it's nearly 4:00 a.m. people are going to be asleep he just did not seem to take it in it's 4:00 a.m. where is David Goggins David where are you oh live we'll just up a minute to get on and I'll also announce the other legs which I'll be running with people later on hey have a good run do your best have a good walk whatever you're doing do your best look forward to talking to you guys in about 4 hours stay hard stay hard stay hard stay hard sh oh man I've just realized I forgot my head Tor okay good start Nixon I hope you can see where you going mate so we've done a lap of the estate where Nixon interacted with about 15 cats and we've had to come back out onto the main road where it's lit up with street lights um which normally I don't like running down the road but because it's 4:00 in the morning I'm Lally running right down the middle of it 2 miles turn around buddy let's go let's go home let's go [Music] home going on 8 Minute Mar base now quiet goodbye right so what is 4448 it's pretty straightforward as a concept invented by David gogins as a means of testing yourself pushing yourself outside your comfort zone and ideally raising a little bit of money for a good cause of your choice more than how I'm doing that later the man himself was on Instagram last week here he is explaining you are going to run 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours if you cannot run you can bike you can do push-ups sit-ups go to the gym during this time frame do some physical activity for that time frame it's not just for runners it's for everybody okay we don't need any of those options cuz Nixon can't ride a bike he has rubbish at push-ups and he's not allowed in the gym so we are good with running and really that's it every 4 hours we go do four more miles I have a timetable I'll stick it up so we've just done Run 1 4:00 a.m. uh that was 8:00 p.m. Friday in the states where David kick things off next run will therefore be uh in a few hours at 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning midday 4 p.m. 8:00 p.m. midnight 4:00 a.m. Sunday morning 8:00 a.m. midday 400 p.m. 8:00 p.m. midnight so all wrapped up in the early hours of Monday morning right I have to go to bed cuz I got to go again in just over 3 hours hopefully what's coming up will make sense if it doesn't as the man says stay hard that's all I got if you're confused I don't know what the [ __ ] to tell you Merry Christmas run two half mile to go bang on Pace it's threatening to rain but uh luckily this is the Goggins Challenge and we know what he thinks about the rain I wish for [ __ ] rain right home soon not have anything to eat yet so going to get home have some breakfast feed Nixon see you back in the garage run two done 10 to go so what are my expectations my expectations this the running is going to be okay I It's a Long Way nearly 50 miles in total but I've run that far without the gaps before not lately but I think the running I've got the sleep deprivation I keep being told by people that I don't before that is going to be a tough one right now I'm a bit tired from obviously just having be up in the middle of the night going jogging as an event it has a funny feeling that it might create issues but I'm not quite sure what yet are they going to be physical mental K9 I have no idea maybe all of them Goggins didn't invent it to be tough and that's a Navy Seal saying tough but then I've seen the movie and Charlie Sheen doesn't look all that tough at all I guess we just wait and see right now my shoes are going to go back on the air blower so they are nice and warm and dry for run three that happens after every run and going to go and get myself a bit of food and feed the dog another run done three now and still staying under that 8 minute mile Pace just few seconds under uh this one felt good felt really good actually I had a pancake after breakfast for breakfast after I'm getting a bit tired had a pancake anyway uh then went had to sleep and yeah oh I went to sleep where my recovery boots I'll talk about those later woke up legs felt fresh so yeah that was a good run I enjoyed that one you happy mate okay home for lunch so there's two parts to the food issue one is getting enough food and then the other is preparing the food now I reckon I'm be burning about 550 calories each run so six runs a day so that's a few thousand calories extra a day sounds a lot but spread across the entire day my body has ample opportunity to slowly draw down from stored energy to resupply what I need 3 3 and a half th000 calories that's about a pound of fat and I have more than a pound of fat stored up to burn off each day so really all I need to do is eat normally three meals couple of snacks here and there an example I'm about to have my lunch couple of bagels some salad in there nothing fancy and then make sure I structure it around the Run timing if anything I want to keep these meals slightly smaller than normal so I'm not going into a subsequent run still trying to digest food that I ate and also I probably ate about 1,000 to, 1500 calorie Surplus last couple of days anyway not donuts chocolate fingers so I'm not coming into this hungry I think the food is okay preparation though having over 3 hours between finishing a run and starting the next one sounds like there's a lot of time but it flies by what I don't want to do is waste my time getting my food ready so my breakfast my lunch all this my tea later on is all prepared it's in the fridge snacks as well for me to grab when I come back in from a run straight away no wasting time it is just gone 350 run four coming up run five will then be at 8:00 p.m. still feeling okay so going to Rattle through these two might even tweak the pace up a little bit as well uh then some exciting stuff to update you on before the midnight run okay going to grab Nixon uh check on Instagram live for Goggins to set us off and then we're out here so Goggins is running with a big group of people and that slightly delayed his start cuz it's now 401 and they haven't set off yet uh I don't have time to wait for David gogins apparently timekeeping not a important thing for Navy Seals it would seem we're going to go now yeah this is Jefferson not Nixon this one can't run but he wanted some screen time you happy get out of here in your own time can't jump down let run don't look at me like that right 400 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. runs went okay it is definitely getting hard now picked up the pace a tiny bit on the first one and felt it so back to 8 Minute miles from now on now right the garage because a big part of the 4448 challenge is using it to do some good and raise some money so in line with that this video is being sponsored by Squarespace big shout out to them and all the money they are paying for that is going to support the people in need right now in the Ukraine and then I'm going to double that those numbers will be down in the description along with the two specific charities in case you also want to help directly otherwise just give the video a like share it around and doing so helps me so you're helping indirectly which is also all good it is not a bad thing every now and then when you are doing something like this challenging I guess to stop and realize that in relation to what some other people are going through it's not that bad okay now squar space not only supporting the video they are also who I have just used to launch my own website that is right sponsorship website what next merchandise you never know maybe t-shirts only come in medium so Squarespace are the number one platform for building of making a website and I can see why Ive been wanting a website for months and months now mainly as somewhere to put links to all the stuff that I use people are always saying to me what training shoes have you got where can I get the watch from somebody the other day wanted to know about Nixon's running harness all that stuff is going to be on the website Jen and I sat down Thursday night knowing nothing about websites I mean nothing I'm still trying to figure out how to edit videos I got little stickers on my keyboard that tell me what the buttons do Friday night site went live took us 24 hours from scratch and box of chocolates but it is up and it looks amazing jma's even editing it today on her mobile phone they have loads of templates you just pick your favorite from them and then personalize it to fit you or your brand change the text the layout add your own photos and videos do as much or as little as you like to make it unique to you and then they can also sort out your domain stuff you can set up blogs e-commerce sites they have it all covered if you watch the channel you'll know I don't recommend something unless I use it and I like it this is ticking those boxes go check out squarespace.com for a free trial and when you're ready to launch which could be 24 hours later go to squarespace.com Mark Lewis to save 10% off your first purchase party Rings optional right couple of hours and then it's the halfway midnight run I was wondering when this challenge was going to start to to bite it's about now halfway is deceptive ter because it kind of implies that you're halfway done but uh I mean the challenge is halfway done un fortunately it feels like all the pain and discomfort is going to be loaded on the half yet to come so that isn't halfway done at all the dog pulling like a [ __ ] train that is halfway done Pace has dropped I said the pace has dropped we kind of actively decided to lower the pace um just under 8 and a half minute miles that eight was just unsustainable uh without serious repercussions tomorrow and longer term as well I'm in the middle of High rock training at the moment to um cause myself weeks of dog thinks he smells an animal to cause myself weeks of problems recovering from this when I'm doing that would be stupid so we back it off it coming up to 1:00 in the morning I'm not looking forward to 4:00 in the morning it is starting to get harder my toes hurt uh more than they should like I've not even done a marathon but I feel like I've done more it kind I don't I don't can't explain shower bed do it again 4:00 a.m. and we are back in the middle of the road now the bad news is that Nixon really did not want to get out of bed this morning was just looking whacked so I've given him a session off the good news Lincoln's come Lincoln is no Runner but uh what he lacks in ability to run he makes up for in enthusiasm he's loving it no idea how this is going to go his previous personal best for distance was a 5k Christmas Day run uh it's going to be a slow one but uh but he's having a lot of fun come on buddy turnaround point back home little man right next to bloody McDonald's that's not very fair you hungry mate Lincoln crushing it we're doing 10 minutes mile pace which is awesome look at him go the other day my kid came home from school bit late he' been uh to an after school session for kids to catch up on work if they missed out over lockdown and he was pissed off cuz there's only him and a couple of others there all his mates most of the kids have just gone home sit on their ass and play on their PlayStation I said don't be annoyed that empty classroom when you're there next week look around it it's full of your competition it's practically empty cuz no one else is working you want an empty classroom and this out here now this is our empty classroom I know it's 4:00 a.m. who is going to be out but it's not just here it's on the garage and the bike in the evenings when most people watching Netflix it's Sunday morning in the gym there's no one elsewhere skipping dessert in a restaurant whenever else is stuff in their face that's what I want I want empty classrooms I want to know I'm there getting it done when no one else could be bothered look at it it's my empty [Music] classroom let's go we got it we got it w w we got it dude's killing me I thought I thought that run was going to be one of the toughest and it turn to be one of the most fun under n and a half minute mild pace can't believe he did that I thought I was going to be walking and dripping dripping with sweat superb okay going to have small bottle of oats with some Fu black sh and some peanut butter so carbs protein fat uh lots of fluids electrolyte tablet bit of food for the dog back to bed okay I'm supposed to be going back to bed but I'm not tired at all just wired after that amazing run so there's no point just lying in bed and being awake so I'm going to sit here do some editing of the video instead uh and get something useful done got my breakfast as well um went for some coconut flakes and chocolate chips on top of my oats uh I thought I deserved that Lincoln's asleep on the sofa but he's had his breakfast already I've got my uh Bix tablet dissolving in my water Bix tablet electrolytes vitamins help you recover uh so hopefully I feel good after that I mean I feel good now actually I thought right now five just gone 5:00 in the morning I thought this would be the most tired I would be but I feel absolutely fine I feel like I go and run again right now who knows at 10 to 8 um we will see oh we did see the 8 a.m. run was horrible uh my toes were in extreme pain it was nasty threw my running form off the pace slipped Nixon was leading me the entire way but in between then and now we just done the 12 noon run fix my toes got the first day kit out uh popped all the blisters don't do that I'm not a doctor but it worked I've gone from insane pain that was screwing up my run to just regular all pain and we don't care about that and we just got a sub 8 minute mile again had to run down that hill to finish we hit with 3 seconds to go Nixon didn't know what was going on he got left behind oh yeah we are back hey fist bum disrespectful right recovery people keep asking me on Instagram what I'm doing between runs to stay relatively fresh and it's pretty much the same thing every time I get back I shower straight away then I jump into my my master compression boots which seem to be working I have got no musculature pain at all when I'm running my cares in particular which are normally something that would struggle after so long armed in fact the one time I didn't use these between a run when I went I had my nap afterwards I kept waking up with crazy cramp and I haven't had cramp any other time so these seem to be doing the right thing and then have time to eat uh and again as I said earlier I'm not having a huge meals just a mody sized small meal in between each run which feels good and then 3 hours of no food although in that 3 hours I am drinking lot with electrolytes and then a bit of work on the video and then a nap and then I go again same thing every time and seems to be working next run is at 400 p.m. which will be the 3D from last 400 p.m. 8:00 p.m. midnight and it's a cool one because me and nion are not running alone Lincoln's coming back out and this time also Jenna and Jefferson are coming out too I did think that Lincoln might be the weak Link in that chain but as he's already gone out in the middle of the night and crushed a 9 and a half minute mile Pace the pressure is now significantly on for Jenner and Jefferson to do the same uh Lincoln has set the bar that was [Music] embarrassing right just turned around on the way back now we are sitting just under 10 minutes M pace which be fine as long as we get home under 40 minutes we'll consider that a result let get a progress update from Jenna how comfortable are you finding this pace I can breathe she can't breathe legs are good legs are good though I think breathing is I'm not an expert but it's a requirement isn't it put in the comments if that's a requirement for running let me know come on start TR on 39 38 39 28 crushed it crushed it no problem at all good never had any out okay we're almost done it is nearly 11:50 I did the 8:00 P.M run with Nixon it was all right 9 Minute miles was all we really had left started to hurt during it and has now gotten worse since and Nixon is done he's asleep didn't even look up when asked if he wanted to come on this next one and there's no need for him to do so he's done 10 Rounds 40 miles like an absolute beast and Dy proud so he is going to carry on sleeping and rest his little legs my aching legs now have two choices run this final one nice and steady just get it done or stick on some rocky four ignore the pain and finish with some style over till it's over okay it's midnight and gogins is not live yet Charlie Sheen would have been late 6 minutes passed I give up I'm ditching Goggins for bowo um wish me luck it's Monday morning how did the final run go well I deployed two secret weapons in the end Rocky soundtrack obviously but I also wrote sub 30 minutes on my shoe and then posted it on Instagram at 1 minute past midnight that needed under 7 and 1 half minute miles nothing like having the entire world know your expectations for extra motivation I hit the first Mile in just over 7 minutes it's a bit downhill so don't get excited but I felt good yeah empty classroom blistered toes had been popped and Vaseline before I set off not a doctor don't do that but it meant they were mildly uncomfortable at worse and certainly didn't mess with my running form hit mile two still holding that same Pace halfway [ __ ] McDonald's Rocky doing its thing so went through Mile Three just as quick and reset the goal come on one mile new goal sub 29 and despite the last mile being uphill I got it sub 30 minutes 7 Minute 13 Second Mile Pace at which point I turned off Hearts on Fire and realized my toes are on fire so how was it interesting is the best word the things I thought might be an issue actually weren't in the end sleep deprivation maybe this just comes down to how you personally tolerate a lack of rest to me it just felt like each run was the sort of run that I do after a night out so I was tired but not a huge deal here's an example After High rocks in January J and I went out with friends that evening up till 4:00 a.m. I don't really drink much so there's no hangover issues to deal with but I was in the gym 10:00 in the morning after an hour's sleep and felt okay and I've always been like that even when I was way out of shape I could stay up all night eating McDonald's probably back then and then go to work obviously not straight to work have to go via McDonald's for breakfast on the other hand Jen had a bit of sleep disturbance this weekend from me waking her up when I was out doing the runs and she obviously did one of the runs herself she's still asleep now muscle fatigue uh definitely easier than running 48 M straight that's for sure right now I've got some very minor calf stiffness but that's all the breaking up of the runs in the chunks clearly lessens the impact even though you can then go faster on each one as a result it also meant I was able to use my compression boots after every four miles also use my power dot a couple of times with that and the massage gun I expect if you did 48 mil and you had a mass s 12 checkpoints you'd probably finish that feeling pretty good too same applied to stuff like cramping be able to top up constantly on my hydration my electrolytes in a way that wouldn't be possible in a single run meant no problems there and food is the last one that I thought might be a problem or wasn't regular small meals never felt hungry never felt full I went from 100 kilos down to 99 kilos over the two days but that's nothing really my body weight can move 1% for no reason at all so what was tricky the blisters was an odd one I don't normally get them or at least not enough to be a real problem I think that what was happening was that on a normal long run any inflammation any aggravation to the feet just has time for the body to deal with it afterwards so you don't really notice it happening here though even though the distances were short the minor damage cause was never allowed to heal so you go running again on feet that are sort of in the middle of a recuperation process and that just compounds up and definitely the main thing was just the constant backdrop mentally to the weekend of what was going on even on downtime the brain was just thinking all the time what do I need to get done what have I got to get prepared for the next run just what is the time there was really no let up for 48 hours so even though you're often doing nothing it never really felt like you were doing nothing and of course 48 Mi is 48 Mi done in bits or not here's the best way to describe it would you rather be punched in the face once by a large fully grown man or punched in the face by his seven-year-old child who's free to repeat that anytime they like for a couple of days solid the first couple of hits from Little Jimmy they're not going to bother you but there will come a point where your nose is getting real sore and that little kid is winding up to give you another slap you might just start wishing you'd got it out the way in one go okay hope you found it all interesting if you did yourself tell me down in the comments how did you get on and of course a big thank you to my wife for tolerating such nonsense to Lincoln for getting me through that horrible 400 a.m. session and of course Nixon for being Nixon and again Squarespace for sponsoring the video and allowing me to double up on doing some good for people that really do need it right now oh and of course everybody's favorite Navy SEAL I'm kidding stay hard Mr Goggins stay [Music] hard
