hey guys welcome to this video this is a time-lapse video of me building a 12 by 8 foot tiny house on a single axle trailer and I acquired this trailer for a very cheap I had an old camper on top of it I stripped the camper down just to the metal frame of the trailer and I'm applying a 3/4 inch plywood pressure-treated plywood floor to the trailer and I'm bolting it in place it took 3 4 by 8 pieces of plywood on this trailer to complete the floor and I'm using lag bolts stainless steel lag bolts with washers and nuts to fasten the 3/4 inch plywood to the actual trailer frame I'm cutting out around the tire wells now so the floor is almost in place I'm going around and drilling into the frame so that I can run these bolts down into the frame and uh and securely fasten the floor to actual metal frame of the trailer the tires on this trailer are in really rough shape you might be able to see they need Neeta needs new tires and these tires are probably pushing twenty or thirty years old if I had to guess they're very dry rotted ones completely flat it's not even holding air but the trailer frame itself is in good shape solid trailer frame that's what you want to look for with these things but my goal and to do this is to keep my cost under or around three thousand dollars you'll see now what I'm doing is framing out the front wall I believe it is and I'm just using standard 2x4 framing I'm using pressure-treated along the footers on the bottom of these these framed walls just because I've noticed over the years when I build and do remodels or what-have-you the footers are the ones that take the brunt of the the moisture in the potential rot so this is an 8-foot wall that we're erecting here on the front and then the back wall you'll see momentarily is like a hundred and four inches so around nine feet this is the front wall and you'll notice I left a space there my intention was to put a window AC unit eventually here on the front and that's why I left a little space like that this is the slant that you see here in the wall the wall slanted up so the idea was that the roof would have a degree of pitch to it but also it would have a degree of being aerodynamic as I Drive down the road but I'm not gonna be doing much driving with this tiny house it's mostly just gonna sit and in fact I have plans of potentially putting it under a pole barn where it'll spend out the rest spend the rest of its life they're under a pole barn so I've got um three walls up and I'm looking like I'm working on my fourth wall here I'm framing it out on this trailer itself and then I'm gonna stand that wall up so what I'm doing is just mirroring the first wall on the side here I'm just creating an exact copy of the wall on the side this other side wall and like I said I'm just building it here on the trailer frame itself and you'll see kids floating around those are mostly my kids that are helping me out or supervising or what-have-you so there we go we got the third wall stood up and I'm doing 24 on inch Center spacing on these studs I regret doing that and I'll explain why here in a bit if I can remember but if you're gonna build out a tiny house like this it's probably best just to go ahead and either do one by twos or full two by fours and do it on sixteen inch centers because the whole construction industry is centered around 16-inch spaces on things it's so much easier to do stuff that way there's so much in the construction universe that is themed around and constructed and manufactured around the fact that most homes have a 16-inch Center spacing on their studs what I'm doing now is getting ready and prepping to put on the corrugated metal roof these roofing sheets are 12 feet long exactly and they are 2 feet wide 24 inches wide it took four of these to put the roof on I wish I had gone ahead and used five sheets so that I could have more overlap on the sides but I think I remedied that and I don't know you know I'm not gonna have any water intrusion anything like that but I wish I had had a little bit more overhang on either side so if you're doing this just go ahead and use five sheets so you have more overhang you can always cut off some excess but I was kind of cutting it close with these um these four so they're the roof is on it's corrugated metal and now what I did is I'm applying some exterior wall boards these are interior beadboard planks and or boards here so you see I had to actually sub in a stud there so to actually match up with the length of this board but these bead boards I got on discount because they had imperfections in them so those are things you can look for and I was like you know what I'm gonna put a nice couple coats of paint on these things and they'll be fine for exterior so here's me cutting out the window and the window is something like 24 inches by maybe thirty four inches tall and it's just one of those cheaper project source windows it's a vinyl window the one of those are really easy to install you just attach it to the exterior wall material like I'm doing here each of these windows was there were about $50 each so so far in this project right up to now if I had to guess I'm probably on about $700 in on the project at this point maybe a little bit less so I'm cutting out the second window here with my sawzall my reciprocating saw the second window is put in and fastened to the exterior wall this is just to let some light end so when everything's closed up and buttoned up it you know he just have some natural lighting I woke up early one morning and I was working the weather was nice and I got to put like five and started working what I'm doing now is I'm closing and you see that opening there at the top with the angle that long triangle I want to close that in so that's what I'm doing here I'm measuring those out the trick with this these bead boards in these lines you got to match the lines up you know that are in the actual beat board so it's a little bit of a challenge you just have to think carefully before you cut it so I'm putting those in place now and trying to match all those lines up you can see the raindrops falling it is raining kind of steadily here but I was determined to get this thing closed up and weather proofed this is a night before a really cold snap came in and it did something interesting to the wood here this is the morning of the cold snap it actually warped the wood a little bit because of the cold and humidity but it ended up straightening out okay and I actually had to manipulate a little bit but my wife and I are painting it with some some like bare exterior paint this is the same color we used on our house so I had like a whole five gallons of this stuff left over for venting my house so I figured I'd just go ahead and just use this up and get this get this interior wood sealed up the door that I'm about to install is actually a six-foot mobile-home door that I found at a mobile home supply store here in my hometown and I'm installing it framing it out here and then I just use some OSB some scrap OSB I had in my garage you know and just you know I made it work I'm using OS b here because i didn't want to buy more beat board and trying to keep this thing under $3,000 so i had to kind of make this work you know it's not the most beautiful thing but i made it work and I got it patched up there and I took a piece here and I'm gonna put it across the top and it looks really ugly at first but then I was like you know I wonder what I can do to on to fix this ugliness here with the with the OSB in all these different seams but oh I guess I'm changing plans here and I'm gonna go to put new tires on I got tires from Sam's and they were on you know I don't remember they're like they're like 15 inch rims if I'm not mistaken but they each have a load weight of about eighteen hundred and fifty pounds and so I'm putting these guys on and this is gonna greatly and increase the weight capacity of this trailer so I'm really excited about this it's really easy to get him on with my impact wrench so I have my friend Jonathan here he's actually putting the first coat of paint on this OSB this ugly OSB and you see the seams there and stuff from the wood but don't worry I got a plan on how to cover that up they're really cool plan that I think will really add a level of uniqueness to this to this tiny on so we're putting a second coat of paint on the OSB to ceiling up really good because I don't want this OSB getting wet and swelling and stuff we got so we're just putting tons and tons of paint and silicone all over this thing this back wall and the next thing to do is to install the back door so I got a nine light mobile home door it's really easy you pop it on there just you know put some put some screws on the exterior of it and it's made in a way that the hinges cannot be removed the hinge pins cannot be removed so it's a really secure door it doesn't have a deadbolt but um that's okay you know this thing is gonna be out on some property and it's not gonna get you know it's it's it's probably not gonna get broken see or anything like that I'm not gonna have anything not valuable in anyways but here's my plan to get this thing covered up to get these seams covered up put a bunch of silicone and the seams of the wood one of the things I did is I found a bunch of old privacy fence panels laying on the side of the road some one was thrown away and I loved a little code the wood I loved how rustic it looked so we did is we got a bunch of it and now we're creating like a shingle effect going up this wall here and I'm just cutting them down I think they were like two feet each or something like that I'm just cutting them down and put them up there and they blend them up with uh with some screws leveling them as I go to make sure they're all level and nice going up to the top of the door they're gonna stop I think here soon after top of the door I'm gonna go up the other side now but I just loved how it looked kind of like you know a nice rustic look to it it's gonna look a lot better here in a second once we're all done it's so satisfying watching this thing in time-lapse instead of being there having to do it as slow as it was going but this is a lot of fun this was a really fun part actually and you can see the smoke in the background that's me I lit a fire I'm a backyard and Hurley big fire so what we're doing we're we had this top piece here and I didn't want to go by a drip edge and put up at the top and also I ran out of fence panel so I was like let's just take this last piece of corrugated tin that I have here laying around let's put it up there and um and cap off that wall so what I'm doing now is put on the corner trim this is um it's a steel like roofing trim that I thought would be cool to use because it's it's impervious to like the weather and the rain and everything plus it's super lightweight because I have to be mindful of weight and it came out actually cheaper than buying wood and using wood on this thing so it's cheaper it's gonna last longer it's lighter so I figured I'd try this I just put some tapcon screws through it fastened it to each corner and it kind of gave it a nice trimmed out effect I like it like how it turned out the other thing I want to do is kind of conceal and hide up this uh this seam here at the top so what I'm doing is I was using like one by fours and I'm painting them white before I hang them up there I'm gonna use one of my fours and kind of hide and camouflage that seam up there the top because it looks kind of ugly to me so I'm putting my first coat of white paint on there and now I'm gonna try by myself to hang these things up here and see how it goes but guys this is probably this video is probably part one of upwards of three videos that I'm going to put out on this tiny house I am planning on selling this tiny house here soon so if
