[Music] hi everyone and welcome along today i'm really excited because we're taking our card making to another level we're going to do a beautiful watercolor bouquet but we're going to make it 3d so grab your paints and you'll need a pair of scissors and let's get started right so we are taking our card making to the next level what i've got here is a little set of scissors that i love to do little fine bits cutting out with these are fiskars scissors and i'll link to getting a pair of those in the episode notes but the piece of paper i'm using normal watercolor paper because it's fantastic for card making but what i've done is this is 10 inches by seven inches and when folded that means it makes a five by seven inch card which in the uk at least is a really standard sized card which means you can very easily get an envelope for it it's just a bit bigger than your standard size greetings card at a6 and i think that's important because we're going to do a fun design that just wants a little bit more space so get yourself prepped with a piece of card this size score down the center and then we'll get painting i'm going to draw a bouquet of flowers so to start off to create the bouquet shape i'm going to do a sort of softly curved v shape with just two lines coming down not quite meeting and then i'm going to mirror that with a slightly squatter curved triangle and what i'm going to do then is are basically i want to create a lovely sort of wrap of a bouquet so i just brought the sides down a bit further and then did almost like we're almost like making a jacket lapels i suppose but this is going to be these this bouquet shape with a sort of flapped out bit so this is the wrap of paper that's going round and what we're going to do now is we're going to paint in one or two flowers that is going to stay on the card and then what we're going to do is we're going to paint some on a separate bit of paper and we're going to cut those out so first things first is i like to just give my pencil lines a bit of a rub with an eraser before i start and that just means that they've got a really nice faint feel to them and i think i'm going to use a nice yellow ochre to do almost like a hessian style wrap a nice rustic colored wrap and i always like to get some shadows mixed up as well so we'll get some burnt sienna and go for some french ultramarine blue today okay so i've got my size two brush here which is a nice size but nice bit of control so what i'm going to do is i'm going to begin with this bottom section and i'm just going to sort of paint really nice and dilute because we haven't sort of drawn anything in for the base right at the bottom yet where the bouquet is going to sort of come together and i'm going to fill this in so around the edges nice and dilute and then cleaning off my brush i'm just going to start to bring the color inwards which allows for a nice light center and i'm just going to put in a bit of shadow there and at the edges and now i'm going to paint this section here because it doesn't touch the section we've just painted and we're painting quite wet and we want these sections to dry on their own now you could paint this wrap any color you like but i've sort of got it in my head that i want to do a lovely sort of hessian color lovely so we just need each section to dry and then we'll paint in the other two as well now we're going to fill in the main bulk of the back of the bouquet we're going to do it really nice and dilute you really don't want there to be too much color here so you can really make that one bit of yellow ochre stretch out quite quite far it's so important that your bouquet wrap is 100 dry before you do the next stage because we're going to paint in one or two little bits of flowers and foliage onto the actual card before we paint some separate ones so i've mixed up some eucalyptus tones here got a mixture of sap green then in here we've got some cobalt turquoise with sap green some burnt sienna and prussian blue and then some payne's gray and burnt sienna and i'm just going to now have a nice time painting in some little eucalyptus shapes with my various brushes and the idea is i'm also giving myself a that's just a rough idea of what kind of scale i need to paint in my uh my separate shapes that i'm going to be painting in it also helps me fill up the page just a little bit more so i don't have to rely 100 on my cut out 3d shapes my bouquet is going to be tulips and eucalyptus and i think that's a really nice classic combination and also eucalyptus and tulips are two of the most popular things that you guys have enjoyed learning on my channel so i thought that would be kind of fun so we've got a lovely array of different types of eucalyptus and essentially what is sort of really good about this is we're layering up and so it was so important that we start with really nice light colors for the bouquet wrap and then it allows us to do quite nice sort of strong colors but they're not too strong for the eucalyptus we're not being really really um concentrated with them so we've still got leeway so for this little eucalyptus type i'm just doing with my size four tenths brush little loopy stems and then some leaves just by painting this loop of a teardrop and filling it in and i think we're now in a really good place to be able to start the 3d element of our piece so we need a separate piece of watercolor paper and we're going to paint some tulips this is a good time to change your water and we've got a fresh piece of paper and i'm going to paint in some tulips now the tulip tutorial on my flowers and foliage playlist is the most popular video i have and so hopefully you will have seen that already but if you haven't already go and have a little look at the tulip tutorial and we can paint together i've made a recent discovery that i love yellow ochre and permanent rose mixed together they make a really beautiful blush color so what i'm going to do is i'm now going to fill this page with tulips that are going to be cut out and put into my bouquet so i want to make sure i've got a real range of sort of directions of stems and also whether they've got leaves on or not whether those leaves are sort of flopping about but what's lovely is the tulip is such a simple plant to paint and the other thing is you might be thinking oh but that's a really really thin stem to cut out all on its own surely that's not going to work well the beauty of this is is we're going to be cutting everything out with just the tiniest bit of white space around the edge which will just give it a really nice kind of almost like a slightly cartoony feel so don't worry too much about that the other thing not to worry about too much is if that happens you get a little bit of a blend these things calm down and the most important thing is that you don't panic and try and sort of poke it with your brush and get in there and try and sort of control it because it will start to muddy the colors together so just let it be and you'll actually be really pleasantly surprised with how it turns out so i'm going to fill up my page with tulips and then we'll be ready to cut them out once you've got a page full of tulips and they're dry it's time to start cutting them out and what i recommend is allowing for a nice bit of space around the edge and also leaving as long a tail as possible on your tulip because we need as much length as possible for tucking it down inside the cut that we're going to make in the bouquet now i've got everything cut out so it's time to stick it in here what i've also done is i've cut just along that line not too far up but it means i can now slot whoops slot my flowers in oh how fun is this and play around with putting them about that's why it's important to just have a little bit of extra length on the flam the flower oh my god how cool is this love it okay so i'm going to arrange all of those in there and then we'll fix them in place now they're all arranged and looking really fun i have um fixed them in place with a bit of seller tape however i think to make it look really neat i'm going to place a piece of card over the top so i've just got another bit of watercolor paper that's just a little bit smaller and i've got one of these glue rollers which just allows me to neatly stick it over the top and gives us a really nice neat card so the only thing left to do is to paint in the bottom so i've just drawn in the sort of the base a few stems and then a little tag which i think we could write something nice on there so i'm just going to finish it off by doing yellow ochre underneath done in exactly the same style so a little bit of shadow still got some of that here and we can paint the stems into and then i'm just going to give the card just like the tiniest bit of shadow just to make it stand out a little bit [Music] when that dries we can write something lovely in it and there you go what a special card for someone to receive and of course you could write anything in that little tag there thanks so much for watching i really enjoyed painting that with you thanks so much for watching i love it when we can take our watercolor to the next level i want to say a huge thank you to my patrons for their support because that support enables us to keep
